Tecra 8000: Startup problems

I was called to my classmates because he has problems with his laptop...

At startup it asks EC/KBC drive... in research I found that it is the update of the bios...

howevev I can't update because it has an external drive USB floppy only... the bios can be updated by CD rom? or that this message can be ignored if I can update Via Windows...

Thank you very much

    Hello

I have a problem with my laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000, there is a green line with a width of 1 pixel on the screen of my laptop which does not disappear. the laptop is almost 2 years old. is there a possibility that it could be repaired? Thanks in advance,
    Mark Kuiper

    Hello

interesting would be if the green line is permanently on the screen during startup or 'just' that Windows runs.

But never mind, the laptop Tecra series three-year warranty.

So in this case you can give it to a Toshiba repair for a control center upward.

    Hello

It is not easy to say what is the problem, but in my opinion, it may be material defect. You built in hardware components like new memory RAM or HARD drive?

If you are so happy your Tecra you can contact the Service partner. They can check and detect if there is some part of material defect.

    Hello

Check please the user laptop Tecra s manuals. There you should find info how to charge the battery CMOS. Do it first and see what happens after that.

When you remove the battery and use Tecra on food only have you noticed the same power light blinks AC?

  • Tecra 8000: monitor and the HARD disk does not work - does not start

I have a laptop Toshiba Tecra 8000 given to me the year last by my uncle. I live in England, but it is and bought the PC in Italy. I do not know if this causes complications, but I thought it may be useful.

Since I got it it occasionally did not display any image of all system startup, so if I have given some time and restarted it would start working again. Happening of bagan more frequently and now I can't make it work. I have conections and found that everything was in place. Then he doesn't seem to be turning on, however when I replaced the front LED cable seems to be turning on and although I couldn't hear much the CPU was luminous heat. I opened the drive and it gave once more, succeeded him and he still wouldn't start. I had purchased and replaced the screws on the heatsink around this area but I did not handle it with many other things.

So now, I have a monitor that does not work and a gard drive that won't start... Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello

Could be either the card mother, CPU or ram. The processor when it goes bad or is not locked in place (have had this before, install the CPU but forgot to turn the lock, so he cannot move) the computer will act as its startup, don't give any error and stay on a black screen. Verify that the processor is locked in place. Then remove the ram and try a stick of RAM that runs on another computer. If you try the RAM and the processor do not always start, then chances are your motherboard is dead and must be replaced. Hope this helps and that solve you the problem.

  • Tecra 8000: Market demand "EC/KBD Update"

    Hello!

I couldn't start my Tecra 8000 because it says:
"Ready for the update of the EC/KBD. Place the EC/KBD update diskette in drive a press a key to continue. "

I couldn't avoid this message, I remove batt / power adapter - for all readers, clean the keyboard - but nothing, I get alyways this message.

    Does anyone have an idea?

    TIA!

    Marc

    Hello

This message is displayed normally the user should rely on some combination of keys at startup.

The fact that your machine is constantly doing this suggests you that there is either a problem with the keyboard (perhaps liquid) or that there is a problem with the keyboard controller.

The latter may be necessary a new system board.

If you are responsible then you could try dissconecting keyboard and the external connection.

The other alternative is to take it to a repairer of Toshiba and ask them if they would update the EC/KBC for you - it is a simple procedure of a floppy and takes about two minutes.

    Kind regards

    Nick

  • Tecra 8000 sees no PCMCIA network card

I don't get my Belkin network card Wireless PCMCIA connected to my Tecra 8000.
That's all new win 2000, including all updates and I don't know that the pcmcia slot is working very well.

The problem during the installation of this card is that the tecra does not see the network card.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem. Network adapter is Belkin F5d7010 54 Mb.

Try to change some settings in the BIOS.
In the configuration box, you can set the configuration of device option to all devices.
In addition, in the area PC card, you can try changing the compatible option CCIP or CardBus / 16-bit.

Play with these settings and check if a this will allow the card.

PS: Have you installed all the drivers that should be shipped with this card?

  • Upgrade RAM and disk on Tecra 8000

    I have a toshiba tecra 8000 p2 266 mhz, 64 MB, 6 GB HD.

My question is I want to upgrade the ram and hard drive. can someone tell me what is the maximum I can put in my laptop. IM aiming for a 256 RAM and 40 GB HARD drive... I want to upgrade the processor, but I don't think it would be possible. If Yes please let me know what is the maximum.

    Thank you guys

    Hello

I found information that your device can handle with max 256 MB and compatible module unit Pentium II are:
    PA2060U 32 MB
    PA2061U 64 MB
    PA2062U 128 MB

For user who have the Pentium III unit I'll also post this compatible module are:
    PC100 128 MB (PA3005U)
    PC100 64 MB (PA3004U)
    PC100 32 MB (PA3003U)

HARD drive upgrade is always a little more problematic because of the maximum capacity that will be recognized correctly, but I assume you can use up to 20 GB of HARD disk without problem.
Sorry, but I didn? t find accurate information about it.

    Good bye

  • Tecra 8000, linux & ethernet & pnp

    Hello

I am trying to install Linux on a Toshiba Tecra 8000. The problem is with a chipset Realtek ethernet PCMCIA card (module: 8139too), which is recognized, but the network is unusable. I always get an error of SIOCSFFLAGS and assigned interruption is 0, which means that it has failed. I have read many times that I have to disable plug-and-play, but there is no choice when I start with a floppy and run the TSETUP. EXE. Y at - it an alternative to this? Do you have any other clues?

    Thanks, Thomas

  • Tecra 8000 does not recognize the new HARD drive

I read on this forum and Google search, but nothing helped.

I think the disk on Tecra 8000 (Pentium II, 266 Mhz) is "dead".
I tried to replace it with another laptop to see if that would work.

The laptop does not, even if I put just like the original.
Y at - it somehow special or what I have to change something in the Bios?

    Hello

Don t need to change BIOS settings

As long as you use the compatible HARD disk, the BIOS should recognize the HARD drive automatically without big problems
What drive did you use? What size, interface, etc.

The Tecra 8000 is an oldie and I think that you could use only the 4 GB; 6 GB; 9 GB; 10 GB; 14GB IDE hard drives.

More large hard disks would be not recognized by the BIOS.

  • Tecra 8000: No memory available to connect with area map PC

I have a Tecra 8000 running Win98 SE and use a card PCMCIA 3Com for my Internet connection. I was troubleshooting my computer on another issue and in the process disabled Cardbus PCMCIA Toshiba ToPIC controllers. After you have enabled these again once I am more able to communicate with the PC card and so unable to connect to the Internet.

Card troubleshooting agent PC States: "Windows is not able to identify or use the inserted PC card device because there is no available memory area to connect with this device. You need to do an area memory available before this device can be used. Check the CONFIGURATION of your computer. A memory manager that is excluding the regions of superior memory between A000 and FFFF in the SYS file '.

My Cardbus controllers are defined as follows:
    1 memory range - 0c 000000 - 0C000FFF
    2 memory range - 001000 0c - 0C001FFF

My PC Card (PCMCIA) properties are as follows:
    Card services shared memory:
    Start 000c 0000
    End 00FFFFFF
    Length 00001000

While the PC Card Modem is recognized at the Port, it can be communicated with and error message is shown as follows:

' Error 666: the modem is not plugged in or is out of service. "Connect a modem to your computer and try again.

When I run the Diagnostics on the Modem does not respond to the exception of the following:

"' Open Comm: cannot open port"

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried to uninstall the Cardbus drivers? Not sure about the location in Win98 (in XP it is in Device Manager), go to "PCMCIA adapters" and uninstall all entries in controller.

Reboot and Win98 will perform his routine "new hardware found". This is going to re - install drivers and with a bit of luck should solve your problem.

  • Tecra 8000 screen goes green

I have a Tecra 8000 running Windows 2000 with the latest version of the bios/drivers, etc.. It works fine and all, but it has this particular problem. At first boot, the display is fine, but then gets a green tint to everything. I can fix it by going into hibernation (or suspend) and turn the machine back (out of hibernation).

Similarly, if I run an application that changes res and past in full screen (ie: MAME) the screen will return to a green tint again and will not go back to normal unless I have Hibernate-> restarts. Any ideas?

    Hello

Have you tried to plug the external monitor?
If this is not the case, try to connect the external monitor and check if this problem also occurs on the second monitor.
If this isn't the case, so I guess something is wrong with the display on the laptop, but if this problem also appears on the external monitor if there could be a malfunction of the graphics card or as something bad on the motherboard.
Unfortunately I don't think that you can solve without professional help.
You should contact Toshiba service partner in your country.
    Explain the situation to him.
