Tecra R840 - upgrade to i7 2720QM

I'm going to by a Tecra R840 with i7 2620M processor. Is it possible to switch to an as the i7-2720QM quad-core processor?

Hello

Update CPU is delicate. No one can tell if your laptop would be stable after this upgrade.
There may be a compatibility problem between the processor and BIOS or higher heat dissipation may lead to a higher temperature

But in General, you can use the CPU that is supported by the chipset of the motherboard.
If the chipset would support the new processor so you chances to get this quick.

It seems that both processors support the same socket, so it shouldn't be a problem to fit the CPU on the mobo

But why do you need new CPU?
The Intel Core i7 2620 M is really a good processor and the portable disasembling means you lose the warranty!

  • Upgrade SSD for a Tecra R840-16J

    Hello world

This is my first post here!
I am Portuguese and I bought a R840-16J two months ago. I chose this model because it had all the specs I wanted (I run Toshiba laptops since 1997... and my first still works!) except one: he had not an SSD. Given that I could not custom make my laptop that I bought it with a 500 GB HDD at 7200 RPM,.
The upgrade only I could do (and I did) was to install an extra 4 GB RAM module.

I would like to install an SSD now (with the same capacity,...).

    My questions:

    1. don't recommend me a special brand/model?
2 - What are the steps that I need to have a correct installation?
    3. I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated :-).

    Kind regards

    > 1-do you recommend me a special brand/model?

I would not recommend a specific model or manufacturer, I think that it s always a question of value for money. I recommend you get some reading and assessment tests some SSD drive test on tech Web sites.
You can choose the best SSD drive for you I mean it didn't need to be the best and expensive

    > 2 - what steps I have to do a correct installation?

It is the same procedure as the HARD drive upgrade.
Check this nice HowTo from Toshiba:
Tecra R840 & Satellite R840 HARD drive replacement procedure

    > 3 - I installed a lot of sw that I need (office, PS and many astronomy specific sw I use). Do I have to re - install all these or is it a solution to 'clone' my HARD drive SSD?

You can install everything again on new SSD drive or you will create an image:
You can use an option included in Windows 7:
Click Start at the start and then select back up your files.
Then click on create a system image hyperlink.
Now you can choose where you want to save the image. You can choose an external HARD disk, burn it on several DVD s, or store it on a network location.
When you want to restore the image, you will be able to use the System Recovery Options to recover the system. For a recovery of the system option, you must start the Win 7 F8 press should choose fix my computer. You will find in this window option called: system image recovery

    Hello

Never solved this problem, I have the same problem with my Tecra R840. I have windows 10 initial installation when it was first released, however had the freezing issue (System fan would also begin running at 100%, that is very strong but whole machine was locked and would require a hard reset). After a few weeks of this question, that I started Windows 7 and which would be fine.

However, just tonight I thought I would try the anniversary 10 Windows Update to see if that had solved the problem, unfortunately the same problem persists. After you have installed update Windows 10 anniversary (updated to Windows 7), the laptop freezes still. There a simple 3 minutes after connecting the fan turns 100%, and everything froze upwards.

Thoughts/ideas or help here would be appreciated?

    See you soon

  • Tecra R840 mSata SSD installation in module 3G position

    Hello
I have a Tecra R840-110 model, there is also a 3 G module inside, I would install the mSata SSD pcie slot.
Is possible to use the mSata SSD instead of module 3 G pcie slot?

Thank you very much for your help!

I think that something like this is not possible. Card mother ports are not a kind of flexible ports.
In the past, that Toshiba gave the second HARD drive, upgrade instead of the optical drive using special adapter.

  • Tecra R840 - Ethernet and driver sound Dynadock question

    Hey,.

Tecra R840, model PT429A-007004, does not work with the Toshiba dyna docking station.

Specifically, the Ethernet and the audio driver for the dock dyna is not installed after running or installing the driver on the cd of the dock dyna or the latest driver on the site.

Does anyone know a fix for this?

Note: nothing in Device Manager to say that these pilots to dock a missing, only when you install the driver mentioned the wizard that Ethernet and audio drivers might not be installed.

He also mentions that the dynadock has a problem with the graphics card edge, but we have not had problems with graphics, for example screens.

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Tecra R840 on windows 7 sp1. I use a USB mouse, but whenever I put my laptop to sleep I have to go out and re put the dongle insert it again.

I've changed the following power options:
Under devices, USB, USB Root Hub power management "allow the computer to tun turn off this device to save power" is not checked

It goes the same for generic Hub
Under control panel, power options, USB, USB selective parameter settings is disabled.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thank you

  • Tecra R840-109 - alert HDD - unable to get disk information

I turned on my Toshiba Tecra R840-109 and everything looks that the factory settings have been restored, but I still have my files on the hard disk in the users folder (where the system has also built a temporary user I'm connected now, I guess).

At the opening, the computer asked me to do the things you do when you get a new computer (for example accept the license, install browsers, register fingerprints, if applicable etc.). In addition, it showed an error, alert HDD/SDD saying "Could not get the information from the disk, cannot use the alert function".

Is there a way to solve this problem, that is, to apply the previous (original) user?

An obvious solution would probably be to restore the system, but I don't have a backup set to the top (which I will fix as soon as this problem will be solved). Tried to reboot, nothing has changed.

    Hello

To be honest situation described sounds pretty confusing and not logical for me.
If you do not have recovery (DVD or USB) media create using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool.
After this use this bootable media and reinstalling the recovery image so you will have 'presets' again. After the installation of clean operating system, it is not possible to have the old data stored on the HARD drive, not on the C partition.
The fact is that before the installation of recovery begins any HARD drive will be deleted and formatted.

Sorry if I got you. If you have any concrete and clear questions do not hesitate to ask.

  • Screen replcement on Tecra R840

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice on replacing the screen on my laptop Tecra R840.

The screen is described as follows:
    14 Toshiba HD anti-glare LED (1366 x 768) high brightness backlight screen.

I would like to know if it is possible to do a straight replacement of this screen with a version high gloss?

I prefer the very glossy screen, because it seems easier to read the detail on the screen when the light is very bright. Just before there is no notice on the brightness of the screen, the level is already enabled for maximum brightness.

I already asked a supplier to screen in London [I am based in the United Kingdom] who said that there should really be no problem, once the resolution figures are the same with a brilliant display of replacement.

Perhaps, could somebody let me know if it's simple.

    parkman1

    Hi parkman

It is not easy to help you with this, and it is not easy to pick up a few useful information on this subject.
Goggling around, I found out that Toshiba uses two different views on this model Tecra.

What could be interesting for you is the display used on Tecra R840-110. On this model Toshiba uses 14 HD glossy screen + with a resolution of 1600 x 900 pixels.

Maybe this one will be right for you.
I recommend you contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help or advice from God.

  • Tecra R840 - atikmpag.sys causes bluescreen

    Hello

displaying videos on my Tecra R840 sometimes I get a blue screen with the atikmpag.sys driver.

Happens to every time, but often - about one in four times or more.

The blue screen occurs especially at the beginning of the video - but sometimes also in the end.

In the download for my Tecra area, there is only one pilot display of 2012 - I have installed.

I have Windows 7 64 bit, 8 GB of RAM and the AMD Radeon HD 6450 M.

Does anyone have a tip for me?

Thank you very much in advance

    Anne

    Hello

Because this problem does not always, but sometimes, it would be very difficult to reproduce this BSOD and therefore, it is not very easy to say why the BSOD appears.

Is that file atikmpag.sys belongs to the graphics card driver.
It seems that the graphics card driver crashes, and therefore the BSOD occurs.
    But why?

    I have two different theories:
    (1) the graphics driver is not fully compatible with the new software installed, tools (games), etc., but the fact is that the Toshiba driver page does not provide all new GPU drivers for this model of laptop. The other point is that the same driver version worked correctly in the past and I m wondering why the same driver should not operate correctly now if it worked correctly in the past.

    (2) my 2nd theory is that the BSOD appears due to the higher temperature of the internal GPU. The highest temperature is mainly a reason for blockages of the system and also responsible for issues of the graphics card.

Have you tried to reinstall/recover the system? Isn't it?
I would recommend you do this using the Toshiba recovery disc. This procedure should always be made in the event of system problems.

I also recommend you to clean the modules of cooling using a jet of compressed air. That would help you get rid of the dust. Dust is mainly a reason if it comes to a temperature higher inside the laptop.

  • Tecra R840-10 t: what interface supports the ODD

    Greetings,
    Tecra R840-10T (PT429E-00M007EP)
Can someone tell me if the DVD drive is IDE or SATA? I'm assuming SATA but I want to know without a disc phillips and none of the form pages that I found mentions it.

    > Can someone tell me if the DVD drive is IDE or SATA?
The new generation of portable supports for the majority of the SATA ODD (optical disc) and HARD drive interface.
AFAIK this Tecra R840-10 t was equipped with the DVD-SUPER MULTI (DL) and this player supports the SATA interface.

    Hello
    I have Tecra R840-199, Running Win 7 64 bit.
I installed intel drivers for the network card. (Intgel 82579LM)
the card is recognized on the system,

but it will not pick up an IP address. (the network cable and port are working)
Any suggestions on how to solve this problem.
Ive updated the bios, and software service does not pick up all updated

    Hello

According to the specifications of the laptop this laptop was offered with preinstalled professional Win7 64 bit. Original recovery image contains all the necessary drivers and after first boot all hardware components are installed correctly.

Usually the LAN connection cable should be enough and your laptop should have full access to the network.

Until we start the discussion, I have some questions for you:
You use this original OS version that you got with your laptop?
You have installed driver from the Toshiba download page?
You may have problems at home or in your business?

To be honest I've ever read on this issue. What do you mean by lose exactly?
No interruptions of connection while loading some files or how did you notice connection interruptions?

You said that to happen just for a few seconds so normally this shouldn't be noticeable.
