  If the other keys do not work

  Also if one key has stopped working, you only have one option for repair and it is exchanging the entire keyboard because the individual keys can t be exchanged.
  You can get a new keyboard to an authorized service and they can also swap the keyboard for you. :)

  You talk of the control (ctrl) key, why do you that Manager launch could help you? I don't think that's a software problem. Is probably a problem with keyboard and you need a replacement keyboard.

  In any case if you still think the problem is software related, you can always try to boot a live CD of ubuntu (or USB) and see if the ctrl key is working. But I highly doubt.

  are shortcut keys that enable and disable the touchpad functions.

  Also check the control - Mouse - touchpad settings panel.
