Time capsule 2 TB overheating

First post. Ive never need help...

I just installed a new TC 802.11ac with a 2 TB drive. It replaces an old AirPort Extreme.

The 802.11ac had just finished his first backup of 320 by Ethernet then all locked up. My iMac could not see on Ethernet and the wifi network has disappeared. The fan also turned up and the status light started flashing orange. I have had no error message indicating it had overheated. I have let it run like that for an hour then reset Nothing. I then did a hard reset, reset passwords and back wifi. The fan still worked at the top without overheating message and I still didn't have Ethernet. Again an hour later and a call to AppleCare and I come back to ethernet. The fan was always at the top, but I finally got a message from overheating. I restored my old network and let stand overnight. All in all today, I tried to start it but get the fan on the top and the flashing orange light.

Issues related to the:

(1) is there a shooting lane in the TC to get error codes or check the temporary sensors?

(2) it is possible, that it's just fried?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Unfortunately, the TC is defective. If you want... but it won't really tell you anything you don't already know, you can run a diagnostic and Test of use.  Please ask Apple for a replacement of the TC.

To run Diagnostics...

Open AirPort Utility

Click on the image of the TC

Click on edit in the window that appears

Click on the menu of the Base Station... to the top at the top of the screen where you see other menus... The utility airPort, File, Edit, help, etc..

Click on Diagnostics and usage

Click on the small arrow next to a topic on the report to reveal more information. For example, for more details on overheating, click the arrow next to the thermal Info.

We had a problem with our (less than 2 years) time capsule - the light yellow flashing, the fan runs often and looking in "utility" on my mac, it says that it is overheating. What is the cause of this?

The Time Capsule fan runs constantly, so you shouldn't be aware of the fan running on the time Capsule 'often'.

If you receive a message that the Time Capsule is overheating, there is probably a problem with the internal power supply on the Time Capsule.

If you have an Apple Store near you, it would be wise to take the time Capsule to let the experts check the issue and discuss your options.

  • Time Capsule freezes when I'm downloading a large file!

    Hello everyone!

I have a very unpleasant problem with my Apple Time Capsule 2 TB 5th generation.

I have 2 Iphones, AppleTV and 2 Macs in my wifi network, everything works great! But when I download a large file with an Internet torrent falls after 10-15 minutes... a green LED shine on the Time Capsule, Airport utility tells that is connected to the internet, but not of my devices has the internet connection. It lasts 15 to 20 minutes and internet recovers by itself. Nothing really helps with this, I tried to restart, change the settings, but nothing helped.

WITNESS, no errors, once again, green is connected to the internet but no internet.

My cable modem works, if I connect my appleTV to the modem cable through the cable, it will be the connection. At the same time, if I connect my appleTV to the Capsule of time via the cable when it is frozen, appleTV won't have any connection.

The same story if I download to the hard drive of my Mac or time Capsule.

I have an idea that Time Capsule is overheating, but again, I don't see no error.

    I'd appreciate any help!

Which modem cable do you have?

Looks like it's a gateway device not a pure modem so the TC may be in evil mode?

    Also, who is your ISP?

  • Airport Express, Time Capsule and Airport Express using the same network

Just moved into a new House and this is what I install.  I have 7 Port wired into the House.

Closet of network in the Garage:

    • Cable modem
    • Airport Express
    • netgear switch 8 ports
    • It works pretty well.  All my wired connections work fine.  Wireless is quite good but cove not enough of space in my house.

Think about adding my airport express capsule of time in my office - plugged into one of the hard wired connections.  Who works AND let me wish the WIFI?

    Thank you!

Yes fine, assuming that first test you the Ethernet port in the office by connecting a computer (with WIFI disabled on the computer) using a spare Ethernet cable runs to ensure that the computer can get a good connection in this way.

Put the airport Time Capsule to create a wireless network that uses the exact same wireless network name and password in your existing network. Apple installation "Wizard" automatically configure airport Time Capsule in the correct setting of the Bridge Mode for the device.

My computer with two hard drives and 2 starting systems has the car crash in the solid state. When I got the new drive and tried to restore from time capsule, I lost some data. How can I see what backups are on the time capsule? My laptop is also saved to the time capsule. Everything is in 'Data' when I look through the Airport utility. I think that the information that I've lost are still there since I was a Capsule 3 to.

Time Machine backup to a sparsebundle.

The sparsebundle will use the share name of computer. So, it should be obvious who is your Macbook and that is your Macpro.

Open the sparsebundle in Finder and keep open the subfolders until you get to the backup of each separate hard drive...

You has of course set the exclusion in Time Machine?

By default, Time Machine will exclude your second drive unless you have included it. Did you?

Once you get to this level during the backup, you can do a full restore manually whenever you want.

How can I add a password to an existing network of the time capsule?

I guess you mean that time Capsule has already been configured to provide a signal of wireless network, correct?

Do you mean that the network has no password at all right now... or... do you mean that the network has an existing password, but you want to change the password?

  • How to set the type of wifi (WPA/WPA2) security settings on my new Apple Time Capsule

I just got my new 3T Apple Time Capsule and have implemented the new network, but I can't seem to find a way to check if the security settings WPA/WPA2 etc are defined.  How do I do that?

By default, the settings are WPA2 Personal. There should be no need to change it.

To view the settings and make changes to them, you need to open the AirPort on your Mac utility.  Are you still using OS X (10.6.3) you specify in your profile?

  • Time Machine (on Mac) does not detect the airport Time Capsule

Originally posted on the page of the airport, but seems to be the better question for this group. Sorry for the double post

Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

    Any suggestions?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

We understand your current configuration of the network with the Time Capsule (TC). Is the TC the only router on your network? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have directly linked it by Ethernet?

Normally you use a wired connection or wireless between the iMac and the TC? This always was a problem or just started to happen? If she just started, have you changed any software/firmware on the iMac or TC?

  • Impossible to extend the existing wi - fi with time capsule airport

    Hello

I have one Capsule of airport TB 2 hung on an Ethernet in my study (lower level).

I already have an existing wi - fi network to ISP modem/router to my media box provided at the top level.

In addition, I have an Extender provided by the ISP of lower level.

I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

I tried several times to do so, but either it freezes up or creates its own network despite the

mode bridge as stated in Airport utility.

Guide gently with the method or Protocol correct to put that in place.

    Thank you

    Jay

I would try to expand the scope of the wi - fi with my time capsule without creating an additional network.

It sounds like you may try to extend the network of your "main" router wireless

The time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network if your 'main' router is also an Apple AirPort base station.  Or... in other words if your 'main' router is not an Apple product, then the time Capsule will not be able to extend wireless network.

So, the first question to ask here would be... What is the number of brand and model of your router "main"?

If you intend to leave the time Capsule connected to your main router with an Ethernet connection, the Capsule must have the maximum value of "create a wireless network.  If you use the same wireless network name and password using your 'main' router, Time Capsule will provide additional wireless coverage in the area where it is located.

  • Time Capsule as a router

Instead of the cable company router, can I use my time capsule to be a router?

The time Capsule can function as a router, but not a modem. If what you provided your cable provider is a simple modem, then the time Capsule will work. However, if they actually you provided a combination modem and the router, also known as a gateway device, then it wouldn t.

  • Time capsule: no backup, device not found but internet work

After my vacation my Time Machine's backups. The Internet works, but the backup utility cannot find the device more. The last backup is a few days before my holiday a month ago.

In the Time Machine - page select disk (config) TC logo is there, but the only option is to 'remove' the current disk/copy.

El Capitan, Time Capsule + Airport Express; Time Machine

I think I have solved the problem in a strange way:

-J' watched the disc of airport in the Finder; He had to connect to the TC unit (password information automatically), and content (two sparsebundles) was now visible.

And after that, at the same time the backup started. It will take 7 hours to complete the backup. It seems that it is regarded as an initial backup then.

Furthermore, the disc name is passed automatically Time Capsule etc. airport to disk .

  • Can I use the Time Capsule wireless for multiple computers without using it as a router?

I am looking for an external backup for 2 computers drive.  I have a desktop iMac and MacBook Air.  I like the idea of being able to back up my MacBook Air wireless, but I need to make sure that it will work the way I need to.

I already have a wireless router that works well for me, I don't need the time Capsule to act as a router. I'm just needing a wireless backup drive.  So, the question is, can I use the only time Capsule as a storage device for backup of wifi or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?  My fear is that the router service is not as good as the router, I currently have.  I live in a big House of 2 floors, making it very difficult to receive a strong signal throughout the House.

can I use time Capsule only as a backup wireless storage device or do I also have to use it as a wifi router?

Time Capsule need to connect to your router/modem existing using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

If you plan to use the time Capsule to back up your Mac with the help of the application Time Machine on every Mac, the Mac will have to save on the wireless signal Time Capsule for the process to be officially supported by Apple.

While it is possible to turn off wireless on the Time Capsule and try to save it to your existing wireless network... and it pourrait work... but there will be no Apple support backup problems... so it would be a good idea to plan to use Time Capsule wireless backup purposes.
