Time Machine has not completed back upward after 4 days

I'm using Time Machine (that I never liked).  I bought a new 27 "iMac and a 5 TB Seagate external hard drive.  I assigned the Seagate drive as the backup drive.  After 4 days, the wheel keeps spinning, but the backup of files are never finished.  I get no error message or indication of a problem.  Any ideas on what's going on?

Format you the new hard drive (Mac OS X extended (journaled) and GUID partition scheme)?

How the Seagate is attached to your iMac - USB, Thunderbolt or?

If you have not already made a comprehensive network feeding cycle, it would be a good basic troubleshooting step.

To turn off some appliances, you actually pull the plug on the appliance.

Turn off all devices on your network, computers, routers, modem, printers, mobile devices, etc... in any order you want

    Wait a minute

Turn on the modem and let it run for 2-3 minutes by itself

Switch on the device connected to a modem and let run for a minute

Keep turn on devices one at a time about a minute apart, until the entire network is back

    Try a backup

  • My external hard drive (Time Machine) has not been saved for a month.

A month ago I left town for a week. After coming back, I noticed my icon time machine backup constantly Menu bar, but I paid no attention until three days when he tried to save in vain, I noticed. I tried to disconnect and reconnect my external hard drive, but it still does not work. Nothing has really changed any other times where I was out of town and time machines worked perfectly well. The only thought I have, which could prevent the machine from time to work, is that I've been reluctant to do the software update. I heard terrible things about the captain, especially when it comes to iPhoto, and iPhoto is my main thing on my computer... so I had voluntarily decided to not update. Do you think that this is what is causing the problem? Thank you very much.

You him have not said if you did all troubleshooting. Tell us what troubleshooting have you tried, and then we can give you an idea.

Furthermore, El Capitan is very stable. However, you should not pass until your system is stable.

  • Why the Time Machine has been slain in 'update' for the days?

My time Machine apparently has been "frozen" in the update mode days.  The last update indicated was four days; for at least two days the backup flash drive was quickly / blinking constantly as it does by updating. Icon Time Machine on Finder devices activity showed the constantly rotating circle ("update"). Time Machine preferences update status bar has been frozen at about 2% of the way across.

FYI, a few days ago, a break of a few seconds completely stops the iMac - this time could possibly coincide with the beginning of this "freeze".

I cut and restarted does not.  Your advice will be welcomed-thanks

a few things could have happened, but is not limited to a failure or a bad drive.

I reboot, check the source disk and make all necessary repairs with disk utility.

If the problem persists, you can also check the disk of destination for damage.

On what your source disk to destination and how the destination disk is connected to your mac? If it's USB it's thanks to a keyboard or a hub? If so plug it directly into the built computers USB port and do not deviate in a chain of USB devices such as a hub or keyboard.

  • Inspiron 531 does not completely start upward after replacing the power supply?

Hey people. This Inspiron 531 since 2007 and he has been a champion for me. In the past months, the power supply fan start getting real loud (intermittently) so I finally looked around and found the same feed Integrator Delta on ebay. Put him in this afternoon very carefully, but while doing the 'blue' cable hard drive that connects to the motherboard is out the motherboard. There are two connections on the motherboard, SATA 0 and SATA 3. I have no idea who it was so I tried it reconnection to SATA 0 (which was blue too) and all turned on. There, I sat on the DELL screen and no full boot. Shut down and tried the SATA 3 connector and basically the same thing has happened although there was some funky boss on the lower part of the screen and still no full boot.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

Updated - I should also mention this power connectors P4 and P7 were not used until I swapped out.

And also when I try and start I get the DELL screen that shows the F2 and F12 Boot Menu on the top right of the screen.

The primary C: / SATA HDD, is connected to SATA 0 connector motherboard.

Are the P1 24 pins and power connectors 4 pin P2, connected to the motherboard?

Have you tried to remove and reinstall all the memory modules and the power data cables in front and all the readers and motherboard, to see if that makes a difference.

Check the power LED button reading, is stable blue, flashing blue, Orange fixed, blinking Amber?

Are there any 'beep', if there is, please publish the sequence of them?

  • Why Time Machine will not erase old backups when it needs more space for a new backup?

I have problems with Time Machine.  I am running on an iMac (21.5 inch, end 2012) with a processor Intel Core i7 3.1 GHz and 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory.  My OS is El Capitan, 10.11.3 version (15 d 21).

Since a few days I received the following Time machine error message:

Time Machine could not complete the backup "IoSafe.

Backup disc neds 47,49 GB for backup, but only 39,98 GB are available.  Select a larger drive for backup or do

the smaller by excluding the backup files.

I thought that Time Machine was supposed to automatically delete older backups when there was not enough space on the backup drive.  Am I missing something?  Is that what I can do to diagnose the underlying problem?

    -Is [Larry] is-

When you enter Time Machine, you see windows cascading over time. The foreground window represents the current state of the data and those behind it successive snapshots of data taken by Time Machine. Is there only a snapshot (i.e. one behind the windshield), or more than one?

  • After upgrade to El Capitan Time Machine does not automatically

Recently, I upgraded my Macbook Pro and iMac 24 to El Capitan.  Time Machine does not automatically work on the iMac.   I now use the backup to get a backup to run.  MacBook Pro is very well.

Thinking that this might be the associated time Capsule, I removed the disc from the Capsule and ran Spinrite on it.  Car is very good.  Then I deleted all the files on the Time Capsule and created new Time machine backups on two computers.  No problem, except the iMac not run automatically Time machine.

And yes the selection for Time Machine is configured to run automatically.

A bug in OS X 10.11.1 prevents automatic backups that happens when a desktop Mac (iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro) is connected to a UPS (UPS) with the USB feature.

Please, back up all data before proceeding.

First, check the App Store for a later update to OS X. If it is available when you read this review, install it and see if the problem is resolved. I speak not beta versions.

Otherwise, you can work around the bug as follows.

These must be run as administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Please triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine RequiresACPower 0

Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

Launch the Terminal application integrated in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

Paste in the Terminal window by pressing the command-V key combination. I tested these instructions only with the Safari browser. If you use another browser, you may need to press the return key after pasting. You will be asked for your login password. Nothing displayed when you type. Type carefully, and then press return. If you do not have a password, you will need to configure one before you can run the command. You can get a warning to be careful. Confirm. You don't need to display the warning.

If you see a message that your user name "is not in the sudoers file", then you have not logged as an administrator. Log in as one and start over.

Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal.

    Restart the computer and test.

  • Time machine does not take into account my partition which is case-sensitive.  Recovery has no data of this partition.

I have a partition on my drive that is formatted for OS X Journaled, case sensitivity.  When I perform a backup, then recovery, all data in this partition is missing.  Time Machine does not recognize partitions of case-sensitive?  Strange, as the default format for Time Capsule itself is case sensitive.

You cannot use the formatting case-sensitive with OS X. You will need to repartition the drive to Insensitive in full. You can not do any repairs or restore from a backup Time Machine.

  • 'No available backup disk', Time Machine is not more Time Capsule

I have a time Capsule 2 TB and it has been used by Time Machine for many months.

A few days ago the Capsule detached from his power and today is now connected to the new.

Time Machine reports the error "backup disc not available."

Time Capsule lights are green, AirPort Utility is showing this device being lit also.

Time Machine knows how much space is available on this unit. However, it is not able to use this device to register older backups or to create a new.

I don't see this device in the Finder, although I couldn't see him there when everything is working well.

Airport utility indicates an IP address for this device and I can ping.

What to do now? Isn't it at least possible to mount to access the files on it?

    Hello sdrfliozuit76,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

I understand your message that you are not able to back up your Mac with Time Machine and the error "backup disc not available."

To continue troubleshooting this situation, I recommend reading and working through the following article and its suggested steps.

  • Time machine freezes when going back in time on a particular week

I run ERD without problem, reset the permissions etc.

At the time of this particular date / week, I discovered a set of 4000 pdf small files lacked especially after that I moved the folder that they were in the Office to a subfolder.    Permissions are read-only - when I restored it Time machine should load in the box deposit - change the permissions to read/write, and then move them into the folder that I wanted to.

Funny about them I had loaded them out of a CD and the system said I had no permission to write to the directories but copied in anyway.

With the restoration of time machine, he wrote the main folder and a subfolder and 2 documents and then gave the error on the permissions.

That's all the time I started having problems - firstly could not go into the time machine at all, can now save on that day- but then the system freezes and as its full screen - is not an interruption.

I have seen discussions on the back up gel but none on paging through time machine.

Wondering if his question because I changed the permissions on all the files - or is Toast of Time Machine.    I can open the player through his record and see all the folders without it freezing.

I think if I need to erase the disk and restart - that, I partition - and change between partitions from time to time so that I don't have this problem

FWIW, I've never had TM freeze. Rather than trying to understand what happened, I would erase the TM drive and let it do a new, full backup. I don't think I would try to make backup on separate partitions. I try to avoid any possible confusion. In my own world, I have two external TM HD partitions (in addition to other partitions that contain bootable clones, among others). The backup on them alternating system (it's a framework, I recall).

  • Time Machine does not believe that a volume is identical to an exact volume in doubles with the same name

    • He began to miss (I had another drive of the same manufacturer, and 'External 1' making the same noises as the other just before it failed).
    • Off time Machine
    • A got a new drive and formatted, calling it "new external 1".
    • All "external 1" copied on 'new external 1 "'.
    • Not mounted 'External 1' and threw it in a box that I keep for hardware failures
    • Renamed 'New external 1' on «external 1"»
    • Time Machine running and went to preferences. In the list of things to exclude the back - ups has been 'External 1.'
    • Removed '1 external' in the list of exclusions (highlighted his name and press the sign less)
    • Checked and found that "external 1" was still on the list of things to exclude
    • Repeated several times, but I couldn't go down the list

Somehow Time Machine does not believe that the new "external 1" is the same as the first (who has done again to the top without any problems)

What can I do to get the time Machine no no keep 'External 1' permanently on its exclusion list and the addresses as the same drive as the one I replaced?

Furthermore, if I rename "External 1" to "New external 1", Time Machine will save it. But I can not just keep the "new external 1" name for reasons of scripts, etc..

  • Time Machine do not hourly backups on WD My Book for Mac new

My 1 TB time capsule was too small for the full backup so I just bought a 6 new to WD "My Book for Mac" and have now a new back up, but it won't backup time as usual. I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 Can anyone who thinks that the reason for what I fear not having a reliable backup. The problem with the new hard drive external or is - a problem with EL Capitan?

    Hello Arnaud,.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. It is my understanding that Time Machine was not back up as expected. I certainly understand how it is important to be able to back up your content. I'm happy to help you.

There are several factors that could influence the automatic backup. Please follow the steps in the link below to fix this problem:

If you cannot back up or restore your Mac with Time Machine

In addition to these measures, hourly backups could be affected by your sleep Macs and power Nap settings, depending on which Mac you use. To ensure that your hourly backups are finished, set your Mac sleep to a longer period time. For testing purposes, try to set the duration of sleep at least 1 hour. You can do this in system preferences > energy saver.

In addition, if you use a portable Mac, make sure that it is connected to power during the tests to see if hourly backups work. See the link below to view information on how Power Nap works and how it can affect Time Machine.

How Power Nap works on your Mac

Keep in mind, that Time Machine backs up only files that have changed since the last backup.

    Have an amazing day!
