Transfer files from a dead computer
I got a Dell Dimension 2300 with Windows XP. So I took the hard drive and placed in a box HD is no longer usable. I just wanted to get some of her files because they are very important. I have plugged and don't know what I'm doing. How can I recover my files on this hard drive to put on this one with Windows Vista?
Hello
(1) what happened on your hard drive?
(2) windows recognize your hard drive?
Method 1:
(a) click Start and go to the computer
(b) if the hard drive is recognized, check if you can access the data. Now, copy and paste the important files and documents on your computer.
Method 2: If the hard disk is damaged because it was crushed, you can contact Dell or a local techshop to retrieve the data.
Thank you, and in what concerns:

transfer files from your old computer, use old hard drive?
I just buy new desktop HP Pavilion p6-2120. I need to transfer files, programs, etc from my 6 year old Dell desktop computer. I know that I can use the program of transfer of Windows 7 with USB key, easy transfer cable, or external hard drive to move the files.
As can another method of transfer, I take the old hard drive from the Dell desktop computer & install in the new HP Pavilion? Is the old hard drive (ATX 80 GB, 7200 RPM, DIM2, XPS2) compatible with the new HP where it will work again?
Since I am not transfer that much is the best for any purchase a Windows 7 transfer cable?
mikesimms,
Your theory is correct. If you want that all settings, email, documents, photos, music, and other data files, use either the program Windows Easy Transfer. It will accept an external device or use the easy transfer cable.
If you want only the documents, photos, music, and other data files , then you could add the XP disk to the system (temporarily use the p6-2120 DVD player wiring). You can copy files to the new folders.

I have a computer running windows vista that I'm planning on upgrading to Windows 7. I will be transferring files and settings from my old computer running windows XP SP3. Can I make the transfer to the new computer before upgrade Vista to Windows 7 or should I first, up grade for Win 7, and then do the transfer? I also asked a previous question about the email, I use Outlook Express on the XP machine. What happens to the emails, settings, and contacts once I use Windows Vista and Win 7 easy transfer to the have Outlook Express? The new computer has Outlook 2003 is installed, all the settings will automatically go to this program?
Make the transfer later. Everything you do is do more work for the upgrade. It takes hours as it is. Please use the forums of office for questions by email. Click Office link in the banner at the top of the forum page.

transfer files from your old computer with video card damaged to new computer
my old computers video card is damaged can not read anything on the monitor. I want to transfer files to my laptop. Old computer has windows xp new computer has windows vista. I can do this with just an easy transfer cable?
Hello
Put the hard drive from the old computer in the new computer as a 2nd drive. Or turn the player
in an external USB enclosure. Or the other must allow you to access the files.I hope this helps.

Is there a way to transfer files from a computer that has no power on a work computer?
I have a new computer because my old one no longer lights due to a charging problem. The battery only lasts a few seconds, and the old computer does not work on AC. The computer's power cable is fine, it is internal to the old computer. My question is, is it possible to transfer files from my old computer, which has no power to the new? The old computer is running Windows XP, and the other running Windows 7. I look forward to an answer and I appreciate the time.

Unable to transfer files from Samsung galaxy s2 to the computer.
Original title: samsung galaxy S2 smartphone files usb mtp
I'm used to be able to open and to transfer files directly to my Samsung Galaxy S2 via USB.
I have installed and uninstalled the driver for the Samsung USB phone, but still get the same problem of not being able to transfer files.
I've attached a screenshot of what I'm getting now by not being able to open the files on my phone.
Ideas?

Hi Ivars,
Thanks for posting the question on Microsoft Community.
According to the description provided, looks like you are not able to transfer files from a Samsung phone to the computer.
We are not able to open the screenshot.
I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned in the link, and the screen turned on this forum.
How i: post a screen shot on this forum?
I have a couple of steps that should help you to solve the problem.
Try these steps and check:
a. do not connect the USB cable first.b. go to settings / wireless & network/usb/connection and tap the icon of the samsung Galaxy phone.c. it prompts you to connect the cable. It's when you plug the cable and then another icon on the screen.d. If it does not, try to connect to a different USB port.In addition, you can contact Samsung for help.Hope this information helps. Original title: Easy Transfer password XP to Windows 7.
I try to use Easy Transfer to move files from my old computer to new computer (XP to Windows 7). I didn't have a password on my old computer, but cannot transfer to the new without one. I tried every password I never used (caps on and outside), as well as the code given at the beginning of the Easy Transfer, but nothing works. What can I do? (I use an external hard drive)
Hello
If I'm wrong, please let us know why, but my assumptions that are
- Your old XP machine is usable
- It still allows to log
- There is no password required when you don't sign
So you can try this...
- Click Start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on user accounts
- Give your XP logon password
- Restart your XP machine
- Try Easy Transfer and him give the password that you set in step 4

I'm trying to transfer files from one computer to the other, both with XP. Former is set up with the file system FAT 32. new using NTFS. When I copy the files on thumb drive FAT 32 to and try and transfer to computer NTFS, files transfer, but nothing in them. This does mean that I can't make such a transfer, or is there something I am doing wrong. THX.
Y at - it files of 4 GB or more large size? It's the only thing I can think of that could cause a problem, but I only expect to see only when copying from NTFS to FAT32.
When the files disappear? They are on the Flash DRIVE?
How did you copy the file to the USB of the first computer? How do copy you them from the USB drive to the second computer?
Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > view and configure it to display the hidden files and folders. Does that help: owner, Boulder computer Maven
