Translator driver GPIB

Hi all

My problem is that I received a piece of software compiled LabVIEW that communicates with a few different instruments.  Although we have all the instruments, one of them is from another manufacturer and is controlled differently from what the code is written for.  I would like to create a LabVIEW program that acts as the instrument that looks for and just translate GPIB calls to a form that can recognize my instrument.  Does anyone have an idea or the code example where to start?  I guess my main problem is to find a place for a LabVIEW program to register by GPIB as an instrument with an address because I'm use to just calling them.

Thank you.

I think that you would need a PC with a gpib controller set as a listener to the address of the original instrument. He would read the orders and then write in the new instrument. Not trivial and not cheap. Why don't simply rebuild you the exe or buy the original instrument?

I try to install the latest driver GPIB 2.7.3 for a GPIB-USB-HS on Windows 7 64 bit. The Setup is for multiple OS, including Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit. • Error of Driver GPIB-USB-HS - 10 possibly after Feb Windows Update Windows

Starting from 17/02/2016, GPIB-USB-HS material (2) is no longer connecting on 10 of Windows using NI488.2 Rev 15 15/8 with the 15.0.1 patch.

Using VMWare player 7.1.3, the VM sees the material, connects, turn lights and then turn off. The virtual machine shows "Driver error" unable to connect to the USB device. This has been tested with two USB devices that have worked with the same setup for a few years now on Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 using VMate 7.x and 12. xs

Possibly this is related to the last update of Windows,

Repair, or a full installation of rev 15 NI488.2 solves this problem.

    VISA still works via TCP/IP.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Update: the pilot is still alive.

The latest version of Windows, which has been applied to the host system 05/03/2016, restores the driver under the guest virtual machine feature. Revisions to operating system host and client are now at 10586.122.

  • GPIB Guide and samples

    Hi all

I've never had experience with the GPIB interface, but now I have to put the Labview driver for a very old instrument. The provider always publishes the pilot, but they are written in BT 5.0 and they are too old to be read by LV 2010. I have the manual of the instrument and its Protocol of commands then, where can I find examples to follow to build a good driver GPIB in LV?

Waiting for your quick response, thank you in advance!

It would be a good place to start.  From the link you will find other links to tutorials an instrument pilot design guidelines that will give you many examples on best practices for the development of pilot

  • OutOfMemoryException GPIB

I encountered a very strange problem.  I am running a test extended (3 days) on a station test and after 24 to 36 hours, I receive a System.OutOfMemoryException exception.  whenever it is triggered by the driver GPIB.  Here's my setup.  I'm using VB.NET 2008 on a 32 bit Windows 7 OS.  The GPIB driver is the Version of NOR-488. 2 2.7.3.  I do continuous calls for the GPIB to read devices and multiplex between devices.  I even run a background program that registers the available memory of the system and the use of all processes memory.  I've seen no evidence that system memory has decreased a lot.  Admittedly, I've only been recording memory usage every 15 seconds, but I tried to avoid creating huge newspapers trying to find this problem.  Could there be a problem with the driver .NET?  Or maybe the way I use it?  This was the more intense use of GPIB we've used so far.  I have not seen all other messages similar to this question, in that I ran.  Any help is very appreciated.

    Hi msouza,

There is a post on the forum with a similar question here: http://forums.ni.com/t5/Instrument-Control-GPIB-Serial/While-running-a-net-3-5-application-it-always....  It seems that the problem this user was had resulted from creating new devices several times during the program, which caused the exception after running for a long period of time.  It seems that he managed to solve this problem to create only a new device once for each GPIB device in its configuration and the problem disappeared.  I would suggested practices suggested reading this post and ensure that your code is after them.

    Hello:

You can get the BIOS to support driver page was last updated and your laptop on the link below.

I will repeat what I mentioned earlier.

    1. There is only a Windows-based flash file.  Only company in the HP PC have BACK base of flash files and there is no way to update the BIOS from a drive, flash or BACK etc.

    2. you only need to run the Windows based flash using the operating system support (Windows Vista only).

Any attempt to Flash the BIOS using any other operating system laptop = dead.

The graphics card is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be removed or replaced.  It doesn't matter what said you that any software.  There is no graphics removable 'card' in your laptop.

  • Driver for Keysight 34461 A DMM instruments works with GPIB, errors with USB

I try to remotely control a DMM of 34461a Keysight using the driver of instruments located here:

    http://sine.NI.com/apps/UTF8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=21589

The pilot of the aircraft works like a charm the DMM is connected via GPIB, but it error when connected via USB.  I've isolated the problem to "Default Instrument Setup.vi".  When this VI is called in the case of USB, the device is left in a State which translates by a later call a time-out at VISA Read.  The only way I found to get the instrument still talking after this occurs error condition is turned off.  I have an another 34461a with the same behavior, is probably not a hardware problem.  I can successfully run the example 'Agilent 3446 X series Acquire Single.vi' via USB if I remove all calls to "Default Instrument Setup.vi.

  • Small size of device driver USB-GPIB for distro?

    Hi all.

I had a search, and you can't find a similar question so I hope I'm not duplicating something...

I created a little app to control an Agilen 53132 meter using the USB-GPIB device OR that I would like people to be able to use internally in my group. Driver I use has been downloaded from http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/2315/lang/en.

I see that my app uses the following DLLs. However, I a) disseminate these and b) there must be some drivers below this level that will be required by a clean system.

    gpibconf. SLL, ni482.dll, nipal32.dll, nipalu.dll, nipalut.dll, nispylog.dll.

Only problem I have is that it is almost 0.5 GB in size. I want my application to distro with a smaller subset so that the user can install just the driver concerned & dll etc I need for using the USB-GPIB device. Does anyone know if a driver more small value distro exist please?

    Thank you very much

    James

There is no available smaller driver.

  • Driver for GPIB-enet 100 on Ubuntu (10.04 v)

    Hello

We are currently moving a Solaris 9 system to linux (Ubuntu 10.04) and I would like to know if there is a driver to interface amendments current GPIB-enet 100 boxes.

    Thank you

    Hello

Pour to communicate with GPIB ENET 100 boxes, you will not need to PyVISA.

Normally, the installation procedure of the second document that I mentioned has, as a first step, instructions pour Installer correctly NI-VISA and NEITHER 488.2.

These two components should be enough pour allow you to communicate with your boxes.

    Hello

I am trying to connect with my tunable laser "Santec" by GPIB-USB-HS. I received the file VI Labview (instrument driver) for my model of tunable laser STL-210 http://sine.ni.com/apps/utf8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=2791 . When I run any VI, for example the "laser_on_off.vi" file I received the error message "NOR-488: connection to the driver or a device error. I checked the 'measurement and automation explorer' and Communicator of NOR-488. 2 gives me the following message appears when I send "interrogate" send string * IDN?

    ----------------

    It is meaningless.

You have to step way back. The Setup instructions for the GPIB-USB-HS shows you first run diagnostics. Finally, you have done this and got a failure. That's why you get "NOR-488: connection to the driver or a device error. Until the diagnostics pass, you lose everything just your time with anything else. Please provide details on the failure when you run the diagnostic tests.

  • GPIB-USB-HS Windows Server 2003 driver available?

I tried to install the GPIB-USB-HS device on our system of Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard 32 - Bit (German) with the last driver NI488.2 3.0 package.

But the driver seems to be evil. After restarting Windows comes up with an error and event poster of the errors of several Viewer too:

-The "nipxirmk" service failed to start due to the following error: the specified driver is invalid

I think that the latest package isn't compatible Win Server 2003 but that it is announced at ni.com.

Is it possible to install GPIB-USB-HS on a Win 2003 Server machine?

    Thanks for your help

    Kalize

Windows Server 2003 32-bit R2 enables PAE by default ("physical address Extension") mode for addressing memory above the 4 GB limit.  National Instruments supports this operating system, it does not address memory above the 4 GB limit by using EAP setting and many pilots OR will fail to load if this setting is enabled.  (Note that your computer may intuitively put some of your memory above the 4 GB limit, even if you only have 4 GB of RAM).

On Windows Server 2003, you can disable the EAP or prevent Windows to use addresses beyond 4 GB, which allows loading the drivers EITHER.  Please see KB 54D9I6M6: OR software failure when PAE (physical address Extension) is activated on Windows operat... for more information.

  • Latest version of the driver AT/GPIB/TNT built with VAT Statement - 32.h?

Context: AT-GPIB/TNT card linking 488.2 driver see 1.70 in Win98 TransEra HTBasic 8.3, driver GPIBNI. A device on the bus requires that interrupts is disabled. This allows this device works properly, but other devices hang. For NI Spy restores proper operation, which seems to indicate a timing problem. Technical support TransEra agrees with this assessment. Earlier versions of their software (non-Windows) error-free work. So the problem is their driver interfacing to the pilot of 1.70.

8.3 is not the current version, they are not too motivated to fix it. However, they did look at history and found this:

"One of our engineers did some research and I could at least limit change that probably caused the problem. Apparently, our driver GPIBNI was built using the VAT Statement - research online and 32.h include file, this file has been replaced by OR with NI488.h. He was not able to know exactly which version of the software OR it was replaced, but NEITHER are likely to help with this, or you can try just a couple of their older versions. »

So the question is, what is the latest version of the driver OR card AT-GPIB/TNT for Windows 98 built using the VAT Statement - 32.h include file? And where can I get a copy of it? TransEra suggesting that as the solution.

    Thanks for your help.
