Two hosts ESXi vs 1 NAS
Hello
You can connect two 5.5 esxi hosts to the same LUN on 1 NAS?
Hey,.
Looks like you need to configure your QNAP to allow multiple iSCSI connections to the same LUN. Can be disabled by default.

Travel/cloning between two hosts ESXI VM
Hello
I have two hosts ESXI 4.1 with VSphere Essentials for VCenter license. I'm not able to move the virtual machine to one ESXI host to another (power off). It is not supported with VSphere Essentials license? Data warehouses can be shared between the two ESXI hosts?
What is the size of your virtual machine, what is the speed of the network and how your local storage looks like? Using RAID? How many disks and RAID level? You have a battery attached to the RAID controller write buffer cache?
The waiting period does not necessarily mean the tasks does not work. Often it is only a delay in the vCenter Server GUI, but the process is still running and you just need to be patient. You see the files being created on the target data store?

Hello
I have two virtual machines based on VMware and some configuration of VLAN
VM1 - VLAN 130 on ESXi01
VM2 - VLAN 135 on ESXi02
For example, a machine of vlan ESX1 130 cannot ping a VM one another in the vlan ESX2 130. But if I move the ESX1 second VM, it works.
VM1 im going through vSwitch 130 VLAN via the ESXi01, what's happening than ESXi via vmnic11 port Vethernet910 on FABRIC

Hello
To add VLANs, you must go to the LAN tab, create them and after that, add them to the vNIC of blades you want to pass traffic for that/those support VLAN.
You have configured a VLAN in UCSM native?
The two, ESXi01 ESXi02 & use the same fabric for interconnection to pass traffic? If a host goes through A traffic and the other through B, traffic will need to visit the switch upstream as cause of tissue switches do not switch traffic between them.

Restart host ESXi 4.0 with vCenter 4.0 as a virtual machine
I have two hosts ESXi 4.0:
1. the host 1 has vCenter 4.0 installed as a virtual machine with a VMware data recovery VM and some other virtual machines.
2 host 2 has a number of virtual machines.
I want to restart the first host and level to ESXi 4.0 Update 1 - I won't stop VMs on host 2, and I want to improve it yet.
My plan is to stop all VMs on host 1 letting the vCenter VM until the last. I have then place my host in maintenance mode and run the host update application to install the update which will then require a restart of course. Once restarted, I'll connect to host 1 directly by using the vSphere client and restart the VM vCenter. I will then restart all my other virtual machines.
Is this sound OK? VCenter will restart Fortunately?
You can also power off the vCenter, register on the other (ESX) If you have the shared storage and try again.
Be sure only to say I_moved about the question that appear when you turn on the virtual computer.

Three hosts ESXi and two Clusters VSA
Is it possible / is there a problem with it? I know a single cluster VSA is designed to work with two or three nodes, but is it possible to have two clusters VSA on three nodes (one of the three nodes would be two VSA groups on both nodes at the same time). I know there is a limitation that requires an instance of vCenter by VSA cluster, but I was unable to find mention of this type of configuration.
Thank you.
When the VSA cluster is created, a single VSA appliance is installed on each host ESXi (2 or 3 ESXi hosts) of the VSA cluster. The VSA appliance uses local storage of the ESXi server. If you try to create an another cluster of VSA, it won't use an ESXi server that is already a member of a cluster of VSA. In other words, a single VSA device can be installed on a server ESXi.

Thank you.Yes, you can in a Storage VMotion to one Esxi to another with no shared storage...
It is important the portgroup bears the same name... This is the reference for the VM...

Communication between two hosts on the host only
I have a host ESXi 5.5 with two reviews, a Linux / Centos 6.5 comments and a guest Server R2 2012.
I've muddled through many questions - time zone, being the biggest problem, but am confused on how to get these guests to see one another, not even sure what to put in Google.
My goal is to be able to share files between the two guests and access their consoles with putty and RDP, but I can't make them one ping to another. Everyone on the LAN can connect these two guests, but they cannot see.
A kind soul told me that I forgot?
Thank you
Hey katycomputersystems,
Could you give us a quick screenshot of your vSwitch / Port groups.
Of the IP information you should be able to ping to each of the systems if they are on the same vSwitch / Portgroup / VLAN.
Try this
vSwitch0
VM Network - Port Group - VLAN 110 - physical Nic don't matter we will keep all the VMS on this port group
Configure all your VMS on the port network of VM group. As long as all the VM living on the same port group vlan and vSwitch traffic should never leave this vSwitch and each VM must be able to communicate with each other. If not you can always ping each other take off the VLAN and try again. Make sure also that you have no firewall or tables ip enabled on the operating systems that could prevent communication.
Let us know how it goes

Move a virtual machine to turn off between two hosts, shared storage
Dear Experts,
Please guide me for the next case. There are two hosts of Esxi, host 1 is Esxi 4.0 and host 2 is Esxi 4.1. There are store data SAN storage that is visible to both hosts.
I watched solard winds VM monitor utility that hosting 2 consumes 90% of the memory while its processor is ok. On host 1 is normal. So, I want to spend only a few VM of to host 1. So please correct me if what I think are OK. I will turn off the virtual machine to be moved from host 2. Then I it will remove host 2 inventory. Then on host 1, I'll go to the data store in the folder that VM and do a right click on the file 'say add to the inventory' and now I'm going to see this virtual machine in the inventory of the host list, just turn on and everything is perfect, is this correct?
Second question on the same hosts, there are a few other data stores that are visible to a host. As if this is the case there is a virtual machine on a data store that is visible to host 2 and I want to spend this VM to host 1 to reduce load on host 2. How to move this virtual machine because this data store is not visible to host 1? Will I have to copy this VM files in a data store that is visible to host 1? If YES then what real required to copy files?
Kindly help me.
Kind regards
From your description I m assuming that you use not vCenter to manage your hosts, correct?
If you have a store of data shared between two hosts you can do the steps you descripte (power off, remove the inventory etc.).
For your second case there are several ways, it depends on where you want to place the virtual machine in the future. Wouldn't be on the shared data store that already exists or can in the local data store on the other host? Or is there an option to also display the current data store to host 1?
If you want to copy the VM files copy the whole folder of it.
Kind regards
Mario

Hi all
I have a question to which I did not respond.
I have an ESXi 5 on Proliant DL380 G7 server host. I want to install vCenter Server and Manager Update on one of the Server 2008 R2 VM on the same host. I know it's possible, but my question is how Update manager will provide updates to the same ESXi host it will run on? The update is applied every time host must spend in maintenance mode and power off the virtual computer running on this subject which means he'll kill VM where vCenter Server and Update Manager is running and the update will fail right?
Is that possible at all or the VCS and UM such as a virtual computer operating point is updated to other guests if you have them or vMotion as VM to another host when you want to update the VCS and UM host is running?
Thanks in advance.
It will not work. You will need at least two hosts. This way you can vMotion the vCenter VM to another host. From there, you can use VUM. Otherwise, you will need to patch the host as a stand-alone host.
See below for patching a standalone host

After vSphere client upgraded to 4.1 error received on host ESXi 3.5.0
Hi all
I have two hosts:
(a) Dell PowerEdge 2950 (8 cores x 2 659 GHz + 24 GB RAM) accommodation "ESXi 3.5.0 184236.
(b) Dell PowerEdge R710 (8 cores x 2 393 GHz + 12 GB RAM) accommodation "ESXi 348481 4.1.0.
from the first connection using vSphere client to the new host of 4.1, I get a lot of customer ClassFactory Exceptions try to change computers invited on the 3.5.0 ESXi host
Maybe:
1. the new customer is not totally compatible with old ESXi 3.5.0?
2. I have to restart the management interface of the ESXi 3.5.0?
3. anything else?
Another question:
3 if I restart httpd on the ESXi 3.5.0 host or interface management service computers invited will be affected by the activities of reboot?
Thanks in advance
(1) Yes, it is not compatible, you can still use the former client vi3
(2) are not
(3) restart the management agent will not affect the virtual machine

difference between a command ping and vmkping in hosts esxi 4.1
Hello
I can't enter the vmkping command and the command ping when it is used in virtualization, esxi hosts, but correct me if I am wrong in my assumption
1. the vmkernel which is the firmware if you like vsphere suite that manages all communications between the physical host computer and comments, is the hypervisor if you like, correct?
2. the vmkernel has its own virtual ip stack that manages all vmotion, iscsi and fiber storage correct traffic?
3 Let's say I have two esxi hosts (esx1 and 2) using two NICs to uplink where vmnic0 on both esxi hosts are virtual machine port groups and the vmnic 1 is used for the port of vmkernel on esi 1 and 2.
the standard command ping ping ip addresses on both hosts of esxi vmkernel, but she would not use the internal ip stack of vmkernels to check the communication between the two ports uplink vmkernel, instead it uses the co-location host tcp/ip stack to resolve the IP address connectivity and would only check each link port communication.
by using the vmkping command, it connects esx1 host using putty for example and issues a command vmkping to ESX2 to host esx1, which uses its own tcp/ip stack of vmkernel to achieve a connection from esx2, so indeed the ping moves port vmkernel esx1 directly on the port of uplink of the esx2 and back again check connection of storage correct
apologies if I didn't explain better, but if you need additional information on my question let me know.
Thak you.
Hello
Yes you are right. The VMkernel is hypervisor - the thing that makes the magic of the work of virtualization.
The VMkernel has an IP stack to do the things that you have mentioned: vMotion, iSCSI, NFS, etc. which do not exist as on the VMkernel interfaces. Often, but not always, these IP addresses are not accessible outside the VMkernel. For example, if you run an isolated network dedicated to these services. Essentially by issuing a vmkping you issue a ping from the VMkernel interface for another interface, VMkernel not necessarily another interface.
Compare this with the ping who seems just the Service Console interface.
If we look at a simple ESX build - two hosts (ESXA and ESXB) with two NICs (vmnic0 and vmnic1). On the ESXA and B, we have the Service Console running vmnic0 with the natachasery connected to a switch. We perform a cross on the cable between the hosts connected to vmnic1 and have configured it for vMotion. In this scenario if you issue a ping from host you a submission in response to the Service Console of IP and other devices on the same subnet connected to the switch. However if you ping the address of vMotion you won't because it is on another inaccessible network - in steps vmkping.
Trust that this assistance.
-
We have two hosts and are currently using the same network/vswitch vmotion and vm management.
I understand that it is best to separate the network for vmotion management.
(1) may simply run a straight cable between two hosts?
(2) should the vmotion switch be in a separate network?
Based on the number of physical network interface cards in your host, instead of connecting the two hosts directly without switch, allows to isolate the vMotion traffic and management VLAN and given that you're going to use a VLAN different you will need a different subnet (network).

Hi guys,.
I am currently working on a workflow for the provision of new hosts ESXi from scratch. Unfortunately, I glued on the new VMWare licensing to a host. I wanted to do this with a script element:
Entry:
Host (VC: HostSystem)
License (String)
Code:
Host.configManager. licenseManager. licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, license, null);
Unfortunately, this returns an error indicating licenseManager is null.
Anyone know how to set the new licenseManager on the host or license in another way?
Thank you
Kamil
OK, I got it myself. Instead of approaching licenseManager thanks Host.configManager I used instead of the VC:SdkConnection variable.
Entry:
Host (VC:HostSystem)
SDK (VC:SdkConnection)
LicenseKey (String)
Code:
SDK.licenseManager.licenseAssignmentManager.updateAssignedLicense (Host.id, LicenseKey, null);
This works perfectly!
