UCSM Server

My UCSM server is to have a critical error with the reason WILL_BOOT_FAULT:Sensor failure said.

Anyone has an idea about this error? Any help would be grateful.

Hi Mark,
By UCSM server maybe you talking to a B200 - blade M3? Also what version of UCS - M you are currently running and the Version of the BIOS. This information will help us to refine your question.
However, based on the error code that looks like you are running in a question about the discovery on the blade. I pasted a link with the pasted clip out on the issue, you CAN be hit. However, without more information we will not be able to help you fully.

Upgrade scenario 2: UCSM and BIOS to Version 2.1(3a) or later CPU earlier than Intel E5-2600 v2
This scenario assumes that the following conditions:
Cisco UCS Manager software is version 2.1(3a) or later.
The server already uses the BIOS/MMIC version 2.1(3a) or later.
The server uses version Intel E5-2600 v2 series CPU processors.
In this case, the server already has the prerequisite software and firmware. Use the following procedure to upgrade the processors:
Step 1 disassociate server in Cisco's UCS Manager.
Step 2 turn off the server.
Step 3 replace the processors with Intel-E5-2600 v2 series processors.
Use the procedures in the Installation of the server blade and Note of Service for your server.
Step 4 reinsert the server to the chassis.
Step 5 Wait for Cisco UCS Manager to automatically discover the server.
Note at this point, the LED of the health of the server displays a critical flaw and Cisco UCS Manager reports a generic error message: WILL_BOOT_FAULT: sensor failure said. This is because an activation of the controller of the Board of Directors is required, as described in the next step.
Step 6 perform activation of card controller using the CLI Cisco UCS Manager interface. Use the following sequence of commands:
Note the server restarts automatically after running the commit buffer command.
Notice that the picture show in the sequence below command lists the versions of controller available for the server Board. Always activate the latest version of controller board image when you use the
activate the firmware.
# server scope
# scope boardcontroller
Show picture #.
# activate the firmware .0 force
buffer validation #.
See also example Board controller Activation Command Sequence.
Step 7 do not continue with the next step until the end of the activation of the Board controller. Check if the activation is finished using the show version command.
As shown in the example below, wait until the activation status returned Ready. This process takes a few minutes before you activate registered completes successfully and returns Ready.
# See the version
BoardController:
Race-worms: 8.0
Package-about:
Activate status: ready
Step 8 remove the WILL_BOOT_FAULT by using the Cisco UCS Manager GUI to reset the MMIC server:
  1. In the Navigation pane, click the Hardware tab.
  2. On the Hardware tab, expand facilities > chassis > chassis number > servers, and then select your server.
  3. In the work pane, click the general tab.
  4. In the Actions box, click on recover the server.
  5. In the recovery server dialog box, click Reset MMIC (controller server), and then click OK.
Wait the MMIC to restart and for Cisco UCS Manager to make a shallow discovery of the server. It takes two to three minutes. At the end of this process, the WILL_BOOT_FAULT is cleared.

Maximum Volume a RAID and a single RAID Controller in the built-in Rack-mounted servers

A rack mount server that has been integrated with Cisco UCS Manager can have a maximum of a RAID volume, regardless of how many disks are present on the server.

All local hard disks in an integrated rack server must be connected to a single RAID controller. Integration with Cisco UCS Manager does not support the connection of local hard drives rack-mounted several RAID controllers on a single server. We therefore recommend that you ask a single configuration of RAID controller when you order rack mounted servers to be integrated with Cisco UCS Manager.

In addition, do not use third-party tools to create a multiple RAID LUN on rack mounted servers. Cisco UCS Manager does not support this configuration.

    Wdey,

The following comment in the documentation is inherited an error early in UCSM when local disk policy was not well understood.

"In addition, do not use third-party tools to create a multiple RAID LUN on rack mounted servers. Cisco UCS Manager does not support this configuration"

It was added so users would not use WebBIOS and then set a policy on the server that would crush like manual mentions.   We that will remove the documentation.

The method supported by Cisco for the creation of multiple RAID volumes on a built-in server of series C are like manual Describes.  Use WebBIOS to create disk volumes and create a strategy of local drive of the 'any configuration.  It is also recommended that all strategies drive on your system is configured with protect the configuration to prevent overwriting an existing configuration, unless the political action you want to perform.

  • Server Rack with two VIC 1225 C460 - vNIC UCSM investment policy

I try to incorporate C460 have 2 cards of VIC 1225 with UCSM. The goal is to have 2 assigned to each VIC, one by FI ethernet interfaces.

vNIC on VIC 1 - FI 1A failover to FI B

    vNIC 2 on VIC 1 - FI B to FI A failover

vNIC on VIC 2 - FI 3A failover to FI B

    vNIC 4 on VIC 2 - FI B to FI A failover

I created a service with 4 vNIC profile and assigned to C460. When the UCSM is configured to use the default system for the vNIC/vHBA investment strategy, all 4 to network adapters are assigned to a VIC. When you try to manually place with 2 vCon1 and 2 on vCon2, I see insufficient resources error. The CIV are recognized and UCSM Server tab shows the two of them as well as adapters.

Could you get it someone please let me know how?

    Thank you!

The C460 has an integrated BCM-57711 that also would be recognized by the system.  What is more likely is that the 1225 s of VIC are on vCon1 and vCon3 and the map of the BCM is on vCon2, since FF is is not supported on the Broadcom adapter it would cause the association to fail.  Try to place the manual placement with vCon1 and vCon3 and see if that clears up the issue.

  • 2.2(3g) UCSM creates not upling pot for FI - A server channel

    Hello

    We have 2.2(3g) UCSM and FI-6248 A and B.

We have 4 policies of discovery of port-channel link for the discovery of UCS on UCSM chassis.

When you examine the internal LAN configuration, I can see FI - A have four ports outside channel ports and FI - B have ports under the port-channel which is auto creation.

What could be issued and how can work on it to fix and see FI - A and B ports under the port channel?

See below advancement attached to ports on the server with the UCS chassis:

Sorry, but it could be a confusion!

Are you talking about a pc between the frame of the IOM and FI or a pc between FI and a switch to the North?

For pc between IOM and FI, you need second generation equipment, 2204/2208 and 6248/6296!

  • UCSM / VMware vCenter Server dependencies for vDS

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the differences between the vDS created via UCSM / VMware vCenter integration and the traditional N1K.

If correctly, the vDS UCSM (1.4) does not require the VSM device which is necessary with the N1K.  And if that is correct, is there any dependency on vCenter?  If vCenter falls down the vDS will continue to operate normally as made them act as the VSM?

    Pete,

There is a dependency on vCenter, similar to N1kv (software) and UCSM vDS (hardware), applies to both methods of implementation. However, if vCenter goes down the current state of the operation continues. When a change occurs on the virtual machine, that is where should be upward a vCenter race.

Concerning best practices, I was that it is better to have everything on the vDS for operational reasons. You can then apply and manage the kernal ports in the same case that VM vNIC. QoS, etc... There is a nice documentation on www.cisco.com/go/designzone data Center on this topic.

  • Cisco's C series server using direct connect to UCSM ping

We have the 2 C of Cisco series connected servers (VIC 1225 cards) direct connect to the fabric of the interconnections and managed via UCSM but cannot get network working.

Service profiles have been created and pushed with only 1 VLANS and VLAN as the default native but cannot communicate with the configured IP address.  Address Mac is learned at the northbound Nexus 5 K switches.  Seems to be a VLAN tagging problem somewhere

    You can test the MMIC?

I bet it has to do with the tagging Vlan; I would advice to set your vlan natively and it will work!

  • Physically, move a server blade in a different location - best practices?

    Hello

Is there a best practice to move a physical blade to another location?  I can't find a document about it.

We want to move a slide to another location due to keep grouped similar environments but do not want to disassociate the profile.

Can we just unassign, and then take it out and put in another location and let it automatically reactivate.  The profile will remain with the server?

You say - associate profile and then re - associate profile again?

    Thank you

    A

    Hi Adrien,.

Thank you for poining, I guess I wrote too soon.

    Yes it takes the decomission.

Here are the steps to update:

    (1) shut down the operating system on the blade,

    (2) Disassocite the service profile, wait dissociate it in full (check the status on the WSF of the blade tab)

    (3) Decomission the blade of the UCSM (check the status on the tab of the WSF for the process)

    (4) to remove the blade from the current location,

    (5) move the blade into the slot again.

    (6) wait for blade to discover fully (even once, check the condition of the WSF of the blade tab), you may be required to validate / recognize the slot to accept the blade and trigger the discovery.

    7) once discovered associated with the profile back

    (8) start the dos operating system.

I would check the documents and let you know.

  • Only access via UCSM KVM

I am able to restrict users to the KVM console only in UCSM?

What are the roles I have to assign to the user to ensure that all they can do is access the KVM Console?

It is not a huge problem if they get the UCSM itself read-only rights.

Create a role called "KVM-Only" or similar and affect only the privilege of "service-profile-server-oper.  Then, create a user as "KVM User" and him given that the role of KVM only.  They will be able to launch the full UCSM or KVM Launcher, but only have privileges access KVM.

Alternative if you want to only grant access KVM while preventing access by connection/UCSM.     Configure an IPMI profile with ipmi-user named something like 'helpdesk' for example. Creating 'helpdesk' offer the privilege of ipmi admin. assign this IPMI-profile to the profile of your server service.      Then use the following link on your browser

    http:///ucsm/kvm.jnlp

    or

http:///ucsm/kvm.jnlp?kvmIpAddr=w.x.y.z (where w.x.y.z is the Management IP
of the blade or Service profile you wish to provide access to)

It will open a KVM connection screen. Enter the username 'helpdesk' and assigned password and the MMIC-server you have configured IP address.  Address IP of MMIC lie on the Hardware tab, by selecting the blade, then the right selection inventory - MMIC.  The MMIC IP is listed under the section "Management Interface."             This will open the KVM from that server. Also, the ipmi vinay-kvm user only WILL NOT be able to connect to regular UCSM GUI Note that in version 1.3 - MMIC IP is static and will remain with the hardware of server/slot.  In the latest version 1.4, you can join the IP of CIMC/IPMI address your service profile so that it will follow him around everywhere where the profile is associated with.

  • Server Blade B200M2 showing an amber light

    Hello

I am faceing question in one of our Cisco UCS B200 M2 Blade Server, is to show the orange light.

We have a chassis with 4 servers B200 M2 all other servers are working properly, but the server which is present in 3 Bay gives seeing orange.

Until now, we bypass them and made the firmware updated, tested with the service profile, work tryied in the Bay of different, changed map of CNA.

But no results, after that we are thinging of the motherboard number the server is 2 months and under no mandate. waiting for the solution

    Thanks in advance

    Thank you

    Sunil

    Sunil,

The fluctuation of power may be due to a defective mother board and voltage sensor.  I suggest you open the TAC proof and they may decide to replace the blade (mainboard only) for you.

Connect to the UCSM CLI using telnet or SSH and enable logging with your SSH client to capture output following

    (Where X = chassis # and Y = blade #)

    UCS-250-A # login local-mgmt

    UCS-A(local-Mgmt) # show the chassis support Mmic X Y

    Output UCS-A(local-Mgmt) #.

    UCS-250-A # connect Mmic X / Y

    [help] # sensors power

Fix spacewalks on the TAC case when you open for a quicker resolution.

    Kind regards

  • Configuration of a port as 'server port' in UCS FI 6120

    Hi all

It is a fundamental question. If any user of UCS can kidly help me by providing a checklist for setting up a server in the UCS port, I will be grateful.

What I've been running a port as the port of the server using the UCS Manager and nothing more. Then I connected the ANC of 10G from the server to this UCS FI. FCoE login never happened. My setup is slightly different from that of a regular system of UCS as I am trying to connect a stand-alone server to the UCS IF instead of use the chassis. Please visit https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2117756?tstart=0 to learn more about this topic.

Looks like these server ports are the ports of junction and can carry any traffic VLAN? So why not FCoE VLAN? Why no "announcement of the discovery? I hung a finisar and don't see something specific protocol FCoE from port of the server.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Niranjan,

It might help to take the steps that need to occur when you connect a 10G ANC to Nexus one N5K.

In order to get a CF on a N5K virtual connection, the following steps of the manuals must be made:

    (1) create a vfc and bind it to the physical interface where the ANC is attached

    (2) create a vlan and vsan and associate the vlan for the vsan fcoe

    (3) place the vfc in the vsan created in step 2 above

Once these steps are completed, and a couple of closing/No.-stops, you will get a vfc on the N5K flogi.

When you create a Service in UCSM profile and associate with a blade with an ANC, UCSM performs all these tasks for you. If you dig into the system, you will see the vfc and veth that were created for your SPs.

Without a SP and UCSM to manage the port of the server, any of these steps occur, and you will not get a flogi. There is no method to manipulate UCSM to perform what you're trying to do. It is not in the current design of the product.

The only supported method to attach a rack CSeries server to a cluster UCSM is using the integration of the C-series features and the necessary equipment (FEX)

    I hope this helps.

The field of the UCS that I associate this GSP which is an existing domain, I have just signed up with Central UCS. I created and associated with a GSP scheme a UCS of greenfield in another area data center.

The two areas are running UCSM 2.2 (6 d). Central UCS is 1.4(1a).

I found a bug that suggests this may be due to the presence of a policy to Boot, but the workaround solution (remove the startup policy) does not work in this case.

So, anyone know what might be going on here?

    Thank you

    Richard,

Please check the following bug: CSCuy07572

You can use the global default and should work completely correctly.

You can choose the version that is required here.

Non-policy default will be a problem.

    Scott,

When you connect to UCSM, go to the Hardware tab and extend downwards in the server in question, based on the chassis # and server #. There, in the actions tab on the right, there is an option "Reset".

Otherwise, you can do the same from the profile of service under the tab "servers".

  • Cannot auto close down and move the service profile to new server

When the blade material is fail service profile will move to the new server in the server pool. but before the service profile move to the new server, the administrator must approve by clicking link to downgrade in the configuration of server pool. If I tested it by click decommissioning in Server Maintennance Menu work fine but tested by disassemble Blade Server, unmount HARD drive, start button / stop does not work the service profile do not move to the new server.

I need auto service decommission and how I config it?

When a service profile move again if material blade server fails?

Unfortunately, the UCSM has no Automation like that today.

It seems that the UCSM uses this call to get the information in the base table of the servers tab.

It is the view of Service profile. Following is the display of blade material:

    Indika,

In UCSM version 2.1.2 we have not the ability to identify and present the card in UCSM.  This feature was added in 2.1.3.  2.1.3 under inventory server in the Hardware tab, a GPU tab has been added and the map of K2 on this tab.
