    Hello Gabriel,

Thanks for posting your question on the forum of the Microsoft community.

    1. What is the brand and model of your laptop?
2 have you tried to connect the player to another computer?

I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue.

This problem can occur for the following reasons:

-The USB driver is maybe damaged.
-Corrupted registry keys can be the cause of problems with the connection to your external hard drive.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:
Run this Microsoft fixit and check.

  • Drive external HARD USB will not access the files correctly on Satellite A100-033

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-033 (PSAANE-03J02GEN), running Windows Vista Home Basic Edition.
I have a Western Digital passport external hard drive, which has no power source, because it pulls its power via the USB port.

Sometimes the player works fine, but I often have huge problems to access files on the drive. Opening a folder can make Windows to hang.

Open an audio file or a Word can do Word or audio software crash. Copy files often fails and in the process can make the Explorer Windows stop working.

Recently I tried to copy a 33MB file from the external hard drive to my laptop, and while he did it took more than an hour. So many things can happen, none of them pleasant.

Problems can occur if the external drive is the only device connected to a USB (apart from an external mouse, I always use), or if the external hard drive is one of a number of devices plugged into my laptop - either separately or through a USB hub (powered or unpowered).

Anyone know what is happening and how I can make my USB external drive usable? I have two other external drives (powered by their own power source) and they work perfectly.

Why, most of the time, do drive limp along so badly that they are virtually unusable?

    Hello

One thing is clear; the problem is definitely related to the external HARD drive and not the laptop. It seems that this problem still occurs if the HD has been connected.

It of really difficult to say what could be wrong with your external HARD drive
Maybe HARD drive sectors are corrupt, and therefore you can not open folders and some files stored on the HARD drive.

Have you tried to format the HARD drive? Check this box and try to save and re-open cases.

In the worst case that the external HARD drive has a hardware malfunction

  • Disconnecting from drive external hard usb 3.0 on win 8.1 - HP Beats

I have the special edition beats 15-p058n and my USB 3.0 WD My Passport which works fine on Windows 7 3.0 is connecting / disconnecting constantly every 10 seconds or more.

I checked the internet and found that so many similar problems could be a combination of hardware and Windows 8.1?

I tried to turn off except setting for usb root hubs in Device Manager to see if it's the extra cost to the voltage which gives the USB 3, but it did not work.

I'm still in my period of return of 14 days and thereby, and the disappointment in speed it can lead me to look for a better unless you can throw a little help?

    See you soon

Device and its tested on Desktop PC 3 USB cable and 2 - Working Fine

Device and cable to Y tested on Desktop PC USB 3 and 2 - Working Fine

Device tested on a USB 2 on laptop with its own and the cable in there - works fine

Device tested on the front of portable USB 3 with its cable and cable in there - device not recognized in windows, although peripheral power.

Device tested on second USB 3 laptop with its cable - device connects and disconnects constantly.

Device tested on the second laptop USB with cable 3 Y and extra power to the 3 USB port on the front - device works and appears to be stable, doesn't not abandoned or disconnected in the 30 minute test carried out, ran video and copied files...

If it works now, download video files at 30 MB/s (not sure if it's the speed of the usb 2 or 3), but works on this configuration port config now.

In the meantime I have USB, HID and mass storage USB device in the device via the "EnhancedPowerManagementEnabled" registry Manager entry to 0, so do not know if this helped as when I tried a few weeks ago, the cable in there did not work in this configuration.

I guess the issue is the installation of low-power hardware HP needing two ports, coupled with the 'smart' power management settings Microsoft has done in point 8.1, it's not ideal, but it works.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Satellite A200-1If - drive external HARD after a while is "unknown device".

    Hello!

I have such a problem: I work with my external case alu Toshiba 3.5 HDD 500 GB and after awhile of copy of the files in the laptop it disappears and appears this luckily device recognized.
Can it be caused by not enough power in the USB port?

THX for any help or the workaround

    Hello

Yes, this may be caused by the fact, there is not enough power provided by the USB port. first of all, note that external USB hard drives 3.5 inches are generally designed to be used with systems of office due to their higher power needs (this is also the reason that many need an external power supply of their own). my suggestion would be to buy a 2.5 inch drive external hard USB is designed to be used with laptops. Another reason that the hard drive may disappear when copying files, is that there may be a problem with the connection of the USB cable between the laptop and the external HARD drive. I suggest to check that both ends are connected properly and not put any pressure on the cables and keep them stable.

I hope this helps you with your question

  • Drive external HARD encrypted in ExFat?

    Hello

I have a new drive external HARD I need to use on a Mac and a PC. I need to access the same files (data analytics), so I don't want to make 2 partitions and have duplicate files. What I've read, it seems that ExFat is the best option for this (they are large files, so that the FAT will not work). My work, however, requires external hard drives to encrypt. When I tried to put it on my MacBook Pro (El Capitan), however, I received an error.

My question is this: is there a way to meet all three of these criteria?

    (1) disk encrypted

    (2) read/write on a mac

    (3) read/write, the same files on a PC

I have a separate HARD disk for Time Machine, I use an airport. This disc will have to travel with me.

    Thanks in advance!

If you were able to encrypt it using the built-in OS x software, Windows would not be able to decipher. If you use a Windows build-in encryption software, OS X would not be able to decipher.

You have to find a 3rd party package that works on BOTH OS X and Windows, which can encrypt and decrypt on both platforms.

In the past, I would have done TruCrypt, however, he was abandoned by unknown original authors, but there have been a few replacements based on the original source of TruCrypt.  Try googling 'TruCrypt Alternatives' and you might find something where they support the OS X and Windows.

Otherwise, you will need to find another cross platform encryption package.

  • Connection drive external hard am.

    Hello world
I wonder if it is possible to connect the drive external hard am to z3?
In the light of others do it on the other android device. Got an otg cable, plugged my HDD but the phone is not supported it or I'm doing something wrong.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Yes, you can check what file system that is used if you connect to a PC, right-click on the drive in the Solution Explorer and select Properties.

It is possible to convert NTFS to FAT without deleting all data, but I do it without the first run a backup in case something goes wrong. And if you have files bigger than 4 GB it will be problems with these as FAT32 does not support that. exFAT supports, but I didn't know of any tool that can convert NTFS to exFAT without wiping the drive.

  • Cannot access the files from the internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.
