Unable to shrink partition

Hi, I want to reduce my main windows up to about 50 GB partition and divide the space of alternatives in other partitions, but it won't let me shrink beyond 443 GB in windows disk management. I ran a scan disk, out of hibernation and done a defrag, but I still get the same problem. Any solution please? (I use Windows 8 on an ideapad Z585)

    Hello Sir,

recently I bought the laptop (320GB hard drive) with windows 7-64 bit OS.iam unable to shrink less than 155 GB c drive please help me. I want to reduce this to 90 GB

Its also the case that win7 takes only supported 4 basic partitions and you can't mention what Disk Management displays for drive 0.

And also if a pre-installed version of victory, if you manage to create partitions and at a later date, you will need to use your recovery disks, that may well destroy all created partitions.

For what reason you want to partition?

I've hit in this partition for a long time.

This is due to files not movable, scattered in open spaces.  Windows Disk Manager has a few limitations... You can use a thrid party as EaseUS Partition Master Free Edition 9.2.2 freeware utility

Its very easy to use and you can be dragged and resized your drive...

but in the meantime, you can simply move your virtual memory, for example file on the d drive.

    -

Step 1 - set the current file on drive c to none

step 2 - create/set a file custom Exchange on the d drive and use the recommended settings provided by windows at the bottom of the virtual memory Control Panel.

  • Unable to shrink the VMDK disk file

I have a Winxp virtual machine, and it was created with a 40 GB SCSI disk, VMWare has recommended.  I used to transfer all kinds of data to and from it, and I noticed that kept virtual disk file becomes larger.

The Windows file as well as all my personal files are total about 4.7 GB.  But the VMDK file is not less 21,7 GB...

After that it shrinks normally did not work, I started the machine virtual in Parted Magic and effectively narrowed the entire NTFS partition up to 5 GB - the other 35 showing as empty space.  But still, I tried shrinking and he defragmentation on 7 times, he didn't budge 21,7 GB.  I even tried to make the option "Get ready to shrink" inside Windows itself, using VMWare Tools, which also did nothing...

I tried in fact to create a new virtual machine identical with a 5 GB drive, then copy the partition through (I had copied on a flashdrive using CloneZilla) - but for some reason, XP does not start if I do that.  Even to make all stages of repair does not fix.

So could someone please understand why this file on the disc is so obnoxiously huge for a 4.7 GB VM and how can I reduce the VMDK?  I really need keep the hard drive space and it seems really stupid...

the other 35 showing as space vacuum

That's the problem. The process of narrowing in VMware Workstation focuses first on the unused space on the partitions, and then shrink the VMDK file. The free space on the disc does contain not more than one partition, it will not be zero. To resolve this problem, you can temporarily create an additional NTFS partition on unused disk space.

    Any help or ideas?

    Thank you

    Hello

To my knowledge the Toshiba 3.5 "3 TB USB 3 to HARD drive supports the file format NTFS (for the support of the Windows system).

I guess you must re - format the HARD drive to the system of files HFS + for Mac compatibility

    Warning

size of available space may be limited by the amount of space currently allocated to on the hard drive for files of thevirtual memory pagefile, themax system restore sizeandhibernation . The location of the files on the hard disk plays a big role here, because these files are marked asnot moveable, and disk management is unable to relocate. Therefore, if these no moveable files are located in the middle of the total amount of free space on the drive, then only the amount of free space on the other side (right) of these files will be actually available for the new partition. This will result in you showing that you have x amount of free space, but not being is not able to use it for your partition. The only way around this is to use a 3rd party hard drive partition management program, or the configuration partition during the installation of Vista.

    Hello

If you have problems here are the methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • Can multi-bottes be on any partition?

    Hello.

-Multi-bottes of can be on any partition?

I try again to do a multi-boot. I had a few problems before and returned at the start, but maybe this time it will be easier, I'v learned a lot since February and March this year.

I have XP Home 32-bit Edition. I'll make a partition for Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The partition will be on the main HARD drive. I have several drives installed. I want to keep others as is. I also have a Player cards, printer and 2 optical drives. I want to leave the only HARD disk at least. In this way, it would be easier to save files and work from the same locations.

-If my C drive partition can become drive N - Z? This score would have the second operating system on it. Maybe I don't want to put Windows 7 on a third install later. If it relates to.

-Can I change and resize partitions, incase I wanted to tri-boot? Right now I will be probably it split down the middle. The main HARD disk is 1 TB. If I was going to go 500 ~ and ~ 500 GB. But if the dual-boot does not work yet, I would like to add the other partition on the C drive if possible. Or change them if possible for a tri-boot and Win7 later.

-Is it possible to install 32 - bit OS versions after versions of 64-bit operating system? For example: a Vista 64 bit on drive c and a Win7 32-bit on drive d? Note: I do not have these versions, it's just a matter.

What are some suggestions and tips for what I do? I ' v been said:

-Let the log of disk upgrade online to get all the files for installation.

-More old BONE of the first. (This is done since XP is already there.

Backup your stuff. I have and to be able to disconnect the other HARD drives. I also did a picture of Norton Ghost on the C drive.

-Get all of the updates for the operating system current and then the second, third, etc. OS.

-Install the malware protection and get all the updates for this on the new OS also.

    -Install new programs last.

-Vista remove XP Recovery points. At least I have hide drive or encrypt it Vista. Tips: Use imaging software or encrypt location of XP since Vista.

    Everything is appreciated.

    Hello

Why not divide the drive into 3 or even 4 partitions now? The data can be 3 or 4. In this way the
data are not affected by any changes made to the OS.

Yes, you can both 32-bit and 64-bit dual boot for a long time they are on drives or partitions correct.

These suggestions are very good. Don't forget your data, backups are turned the computer off or on players who
you do not use for any OS (just in case). Multiple backups are always a good idea.
