understand the firewall, the ports?

Hi all

I have a simple question to understand how works the osx firewall...

For example, in windows, I can either allow applications, or I can activate a port.

The firewall under osx (10.11.1) can activate some already known system services, or applications.

It means... when I allow an application, the application is listening to all the ports are enabled?

Or is there another way to turn of the specific ports?

Greetings from the Germany

Chris

management of firewall ports with the OS X Firewall tool is not available. It is only through the Application.

If you need a firewall you will need a 3rd party app that allows the management of ports.

Original title: port blocking of firewall, that can not unlock & failure audit

I had a very annoying problem with my ports lately. I don't think I did something to change my settings, but I had a little virus at the time, it began to happen, I get removed (at least for the most part...)

Basically, my ports that I opened for the games were closed, even though I had port-forwarded correctly in my router configuration pages. I finally tried to disable the firewall of Windows completely and all of a sudden my ports were working. I tried to set my firewall settings if it would work when turned on while keeping my ports are open, but I could not understand. I decided to just completely remove all settings and restore the default configuration. In this way, I have just wait for notification that appears and says "Windows Firewall has prevented blah blah blah" and ask me to block the incoming/outgoing connection. But I never got this message. "Not a huge deal," I thought, ' I'll just add it manually then.» I continued to come in the error "an error occurred during the addition of the rule. Error: Access is denied. Status: the rule has been analyzed with success of the store. "I tried to add port rules, the rules of the program, custom rules, but none of them worked. I decided to check the event viewer later and noticed Audit failures when I opened my programs that relied on the ports. The error says "firewall Windows could not notify the user that he blocked an application to accept inbound connections on the network. Error code: 5 (event ID: 5032)

Now, after a lot of googling and few answers, I've seen people make that same mistake, but with the error Code: 2 perhaps, but I don't think that I've never seen more than one person getting an error code 5. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? The only way I can do what I have (almost) everything want right now is away the Windows Firewall, but I always get problems of port with a couple of my programs. The best explanation is that this virus tinkered around with my firewall settings, but there may be a way to fix it through the registry editor?

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

Sorry but I don't understand your reference to a 'port' for the hard drive.  A 'port' is typically a connector on the case of a laptop when you plug a cable any in.  And, in this sense, there is no "port" for the hard drive.

This link is to the Service and maintenance for your PC Guide: http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5271152&docId=emr_na-c03404932&docLocale=en_US

Information hard disk, as well as the replacement instructions, begin on page 37.  Understand, though, that this isn't a deletion-the-cover, ease of use; Instead, you must disassemble the laptop.  Unless you are experienced in doing that, my recommendation is to have the disk swap is completed in an HP Service Center.

Here is information on Service Centers: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00372730?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0004

  • Why is the port udp 137 used during a remote desktop session?

I am currently seeing a lot of messages on my firewall indicating port 137 udp is blocked.  I think that when I use remote desktop to a remote system, which attempts to connect to me via the udp port 137 remote systems.  If this is true, why?  This is necessary or if I can change this behavior?

    Hello

UDP 137 is used by NetBIOS in Windows 7 file sharing.

According to what you are doing when you use Remote Desktop on your network, it can call the UDP137.

If it does not interfere with something functional you need to do, leave him alone. The Job firewall is to block aspects of network traffic. You don't have to feel 'sorry' to him do his job.

  • Unable to get the port forwarding on LRT224

    Hello

Can anyone help with setting the port forwarding on a LRT224 - he drives me crazy!

I have a mail server running on the internal network listening on port 443 using SSL. I want to expose it to the internet on port 450

I tried to configure the following Port Address Translation entries:

TCP: 450 an external Port internal Port: 443 host LAN:

UDP: 450 an external Port internal Port: 443 host LAN:

    The two rules are enabled.

I have not setup additional access rules, since I realized that the Port Address Translation is circumventing them.

The setting "Block WAN request" on the firewall is disabled.

Result - NOTHING! No link, no ports open (verified with ShieldsUp!)

FYI - the LRT224 was purchased to replace 2 DD-WRT-flashed routers, each connected to a different ISP - 1 want to automate failover rather that physically Exchange connections of my passage to the routers.

On the other hand, the requirement for transmission of port above took 5 minutes to the configuration via DD - WRT and worked as required from the beginning.

I spent 2 days playing with the LRT224 and have no configuration work.

It is a basic feature! Why is it so hard to make it work?

    All help gratefully received...

    Hi Chad,

Just to say thank you to help get that job!

To confirm, the resolution for anyone interested:

The configuration of Port Address Translation was correct, but the internal server that was targeted had bad default gateway on its network card (it was targeting my other router), which meant that he was not talking to the LRT224, which means that the latter did not open the ports connected to the Internet.

  • srw2008 snmp vlan to the port

    Hello

I need to know is there any option to get the ports which some vlan is added with snmp?  I found this oid 17.7.1.4.5.1.1 with snmpwalk. gives information on identifying port and vlan So far so good, but it's the way to see only untagged VLAN on ports. I was not able to find all the data on the VLANs on the ports. There are some OID with hexadecimal codes that change by changing the marking port but I can't understand them.

Enter the OID in google. If you don't find anything, remove the last number. Search until you find something, for example this.

    OIDS are bit masks:

    09 = 00001001
    11 = 00010001

Are you sure that you invert not that?

The first (highest) bit seems to be port 1, the port according to 2, etc. The first output would look like is a member of the VLAN 5 and 8. The second is member of 4 & 8.

F6 and EA are excluded ports. Same again here:

    F6 = 11110110
    EE = 11101110

  • Problems with static IP setting for the port forward through 2 routers

I currently have cable internet connected to a router (Linksys E2000 w / v1.0.03 firmware). This router is connected to another router, a Linksys E3200 with firmware v1.0.02. In order to correctly forward ports through the E3200, I understand that I need to set up a static IP address on the router.

I almost followed the steps in this video, but when I enter all the IP addresses for the static IP address settings, it allows me to access the router configuration page. I try to get the new IP address that I gave (which he tries to move automatically once I have save settings) and the connection times out. I am able to access internet otherwise, however. From here, I have to do a factory reset on the router and start from square one.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm quite frustrated and would like to get ports forwarded so I can get my server properly set in place.

    1. If it has connected LAN - LAN you will need to disable the DHCP server on the E3200.

    2. the best option would be to use the 'bridge' on the E3200 mode (in the latest firmware) and connect the internet port to the main router.

    3. If connected LAN - LAN (or in Bridge mode) all internet related functions on the E3200, including ports are not relevant. There is no need to set up the port on the E3200 redirects. All shipping is done only on the E2000 and nowhere else.

    4. What is the address LAN IP of the E3200? What is the address LAN IP of the E2000?

I am running Windows Vista Home Edition with Security Essentials.  I can connect to my wireless router, but cannot get internet connectivity via Wireless.  If I connect the cable to the port on the router, I get internet connectivity.  Is there a firewall setting that could cause this problem?

    Hello

Your router could be suspicious here, you have successfully updated its firmware as a possible solution? And I would like to
Update your WiFi drivers on computers. How you are positioned in the router? Are there
    obstacles in the path?

Actually try updating your driver and disabling the network logon.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

You can download several at once however restart after the installation of each of them.

After watching the system manufacturer, you can check the manufacturer of the device an even newer version. (The
manufacturer of system become your backup policies).

Repeat for network (NIC) card and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as Vista like

I would also turn off auto update for the drivers. If the updates Windows suggests a just HIDE as they
are almost always old, and you can search drivers manually as needed.

  • connecting to the port Series 9 pins

I have Vista Business. I use a scanner that uses a serial connection. He has always worked in XP and I couldn't use hyoperterminal 0 test the. Now, there is no test for the port. I can't get the data via the port and I'm not familiar with telnet or knowledge if we can test the port. My port may be blocked? I truned disable the firewall and no luck. I place the receiver program as a program exception in the firewall, but the digitizer is what sends the data to the port not the software on the system.

    Any ideas?

    Hello Frank Gregg,.

    ·         The digitizer is displayed in Device Manager when you connect?

    ·         You have the drivers installed for the scanner?

    ·         Who is the manufacturer of your scanner?

    ·         What exactly are you using the digitizer for?

    ·         What is the name of the program that you use to perform the test?

I suggest you contact the manufacturer for the digitizer get the drivers to connect with Vista.

If the device shows working in Device Manager then you can try to perform the test for the ports.

    Hello

I have to re - route SNMP traps received at the port 162 to some other port higher than 1024 (2041 for example). There is an application that sends SNMP traps for the port 162 and our application running on Windows listen to SNMP interruptions on port 2041, so we want road/winger pitfalls in-house port 162 to 2041.

I've been watching rules defined in "Windows Firewall with advanced security", but not in a position to succeed. • [question] what is the ports to use ISDN G/W?

Hello. I am a newbie of telepresence area.

I face to configure an ISDN G/W befind the firewall.

To connect to other devices, I need to know which ports are using.

I searched for information through Google and CISCO Web page, but I couldn't know.

I hope that someone knows about the ports ISDN G/W. help, please...

    Thank you.

You should mention this kind of gateway that you use, the better would be to also mention the version of the software.

Also include some info from your deploymet.

For the old codian procucts (like 3241/8321 ISDN GW), have a look here:

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/Telepresence/infrastructure/articles/conferencing_products_conferenceme_ports_used_kb_3.shtml

SIP is not currently supported, but I read somewhere here that it will come as well.

It depends somewhat on your deployment which ports must be open and which should be blocked.

Be cautious when you deploy an ISDN GW with connectivity to the public ISDN network

as an open ISDN GW can cause unwanted / fraud calls that can generate a large number of costs.

Better is to have a strict plan of numbering on the ISDN GW itself and also to block calls via a control call (vcs/cucm).

  • Helps the clarification on the ports of the UCS C220

Hi guys New computer unified (and the servers / virtualization in general to be honest!) Sorry for stupid questions, I guess. I tried to read as much as I can but still a little fuzzy on a few things.

At the back of the UCS C220 I have, there is a M, 1 LAN, LAN 2 port, and then a 4 ports ethernet card. What I guessed was:

    M's management for MMIC port

LAN 1 and 2 were for ESXi (grouping of NETWORK cards?)

So do not know what is the purpose of the ethernet card 4 ports as well?

In addition, the MMIC, you have the option for dedicated/shared LOM etc and I don't really understand the differences. I guessed who dedicates meant that MMIC used the port of M and LOM shared meant she could use other LAN ports? Furthermore, making MMIC and ESXi had to be on separate subnets?

Sorry for stupid questions, but once I have clearly in my head I think it will be easy for me,

    Thank you

    Hello

If I have CIMC running in "Shared LOM" then it means I can have 1 cable connected from one of the LOM ports and can access both the CIMC and ESXi on a single cable without the need for the management cable to be connected?

Yes, the only cable connected to the LOM port will give access to interface MMIC and ESXi.

In this case the CIMC and ESXi can also be on the same subnet without problems? (Assuming switch with single vlan)

They can be in the same subnet and won't cause problems
