Unspecified printer - HP Laserjet 4000 parallel to USB adapter

I have just installed a printer HP Laserjet 4000 using a Sabrent USB 2.0 cable and it appears as not specified.  I downloaded the driver appropriate from MS, but can't seem to find a way to connect the printer to the new driver?  Any thoughts?

Hi ArthuChassen,

I just had a quick search for Windows 7 drivers for the printer, I have found none. There are drivers for Windows XP, I suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it makes a difference.

Here is the link to download the driver: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=14952&lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=25474&taskId=135

See the help link for installing the driver in compatibility mode:

  • Connect a printer HP Laserjet 4 parallel via USB using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit - HELP!

I have a new Dell PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) that does not have a parallel port to connect an old HP Laserjet 4 printer.  I bought a USB to parallel to connect the PC to the printer.  When turn on/off the printer, W7 installed an IEEE-1284 controller that appears in the unspecified list of devices in the control panel.  I "Has added a new printer", select "USB001 virtual printer USB port", then choose the correct printer driver (after "Windows Update" get a longer list).  When you try to print a test page, the 'ready' light on the printer starts to print, but nothing else happens.

After experimenting with different settings, I was able to get a page to print that says "* s1M.  I don't know how it happened or what it means.  This suggests that the PC is 'talk' to the printer.  However, I was unable to reproduce this.

HP support was able to help me, and I've been searching for an answer.  Someone at - it suggestions?  I wouldn't give up using a "workhorse" reliable printer for years. "

    You do not have a parallel port on the machine.  Whatever it is sent to the parallel port device should fail on writing.   Change the port to the port of USB00n, created when you plugged the cable.  You will see the port listed in the list of ports.  This will usually USB001 when you have not all printers attached otherUSB.   • LaserJet 4000 TN: The printer HP Laserjet 4000 Series PCL5: error state & quot; message & quot;

I sent the following message to Microsoft after a ' update:

I have a printer HP Laserjet 4000 Series PCL5 TN which worked beautifully "black only" for many years. A recent update (Windows 10:12 / 22/15) seemed to put the printer in the "printer error state", when you try to print a simple document. It has been my default printer for a long time. I followed the suggestions of printer "windows 10", that is, unplug and plug - check cable (not USB) connections, remove the printer from the list of print devices /, reinstall drivers HP for Windows 10 (following suggestions from HP on HP site) - nothing seems to work. It has a network cable connection, but it is directly connected to my computer, no other computers are connected. See screen capture below. I even did a "recovery" of before 12/22! Any suggestions? Thank you. GM

    I received instructions from Microsoft:

You run the printer Troubleshooter and identify the cause?

If this isn't the case, we will do that by visiting the link below and see if it helps.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-10/fix-printer-problems

Check also the update (KB number) has recently been installed on your computer.

You can also restore printer drivers and check.

To restore the driver, you can follow the steps below:

    • Press Windows + R on the desktop screen.
    • Type devmgmt.msc and press ENTER.
    • Expand the printer drivers and do a right-click on the driver and select Properties.
    • Go to the driver tab and click driver RollBack.

Can I assume that you use a parallel cable to connect the printer to the computer.  If you do this is a known problem that can be solved.  Go to Device Manager and then click ports.  Double-click the lpt for the printer port, and then click on device settings at the top.  Change the default setting of the middle box checked in the box below to use any available interruption. I would also check the legacy down.  If necessary, turn the computer off and then turn it back on, but most of the time this solves the problem without a reboot.

    You are the very welcome.

I guess that's what you have to do unless you can connect your PC to the internet.

You can also download the stand-alone update from the Microsoft update catalog to another PC and copy to that you have the printer using a usb flash drive or you burn on a CD.

I guess you want the PCL6 driver.

Can I use a parallel (connector 25 pins) - to - cable USB adapter to connect a HP Laserjet 4100 to a computer on Windows 7 (64 bit)? There is no other available ports on this old printer

It is possible, but there have been many reports of the USB parallel adapter does not.

  • LaserJet 4L - parallel to USB on an iMac - is it possible?

I still have my trusty old 4 L - Yes, it is 15-20 years and gives always amazing results (and expensive).  Last year, I dropped the Microsoft PC machines and bought an iMac.  I also bought a parallel to USB cable... but it doesn't work.  Am I missing a driver?  Apple claim that they install drivers because known to all (or almost) done but my iMac just ignors the connection completely!

Are there drivers for the iMac that will make this work or do I need to buy more material - the printer is great, but there is a limit on the budget!

P.S. This thread has been moved from Laserjet Macintosh compatible products. -HP moderator of the Forum

Apple has been active in all of 10.5 and above to fill the gap between adobe postscript based architecture print and the "rest of the world" by integrating components of the opensource osx printing architecture.

In the control system in 10.5 to 10.8 - print & fax from Mac OS x, you can add a "Laserjet 4/5 version 1.3' printer PCL."

This means that if your USB cable adapter<>parallel haven really works under OSX, you should see this printerport at the opening of systemcontrols - print & fax-'+' - 'add printer' - 'standard '.

If you click on this port, and then click 'Choose' - 'choose the printing software", you will see this listed PCL driver.

If you do not get a printerport displayed, he contact manufacturer of your card.

    Hello

To do any hardware with Windows, you must install the drivers from the manufacturer for this particular material.

HP tips for the installation of the printer etc., is to install the software drivers first, and then connect the printer.

But the Support drivers HP for your series machine seems to stop to XP:

Have you tried to install the XP drivers to see what happens?

  • Printer HP LaserJet 4000 w / Windows 7.

My old computer crashed. My boss bought a new w / Windows 7. He had not my printer on it, I transferred it to use, but now it will not print gridlines of the Excel program.  Is there something I can do?  She'll often tell me that the printer driver is not installed, so I'll go through the process again.  Still no gridlines.  Anyone know what I can do?  If anything like that?

    Hello, Michelle.

    (1) install the printer driver.

    Uninstall, reboot, and reinstall Excel

    Try printing again

    (2) If Windows does not automatically detect and install the driver, or if you have already installed the base driver and try to activate the functions of basic printing on a network, you may need to add using devices and printers (formerly add a Printer Wizard) in Windows. For more information, go to install the printer through the Windows 7 operating system driver (c02536257) (in English).

    Try printing again

To resolve this problem, run the driver setup in compatibility mode. Alternatively, use an account that has administrative credentials to run the driver installation program. You can also locate the driver .inf file and then manually install the driver.

    (3) install the 5th PCL and PCl 6 beams found here
The PostScript driver package can be found here
Choose between the three pilots and determine which prints the document using Excel
    HP Laserjet Plug-and-Play package

If you do not have the installation CD, try to order it from here

Finally, what version of Windows 7 use you?  You will want to perhaps download and install XP Mode with Virtual PC

Your problem is not the pilot, but the parallel port.  You need to make a change under device manager on windows 10 computer to operate.  Go to Device Manager, click ports and then double click the lpt port that the printer is attached.  Go to port settings and change the setting to not use an interruption to use any interrupt assigned to the port and back up the configuration.  Turn off the computer and then the back and you should be able to use the printer with the driver pcl or postscript.

  • HP Laserjet 4000 t printer: Laserjet 4000 t false jam - Attention light stays on

I have an old printer HP Laserjet 4000 t.

I got a paper jam message , but when I searched carefully there is no paper jam.  I took out the paper trays and raised the lid of the printer, but nothing goes out the light of attention.  I even tried to unplug then reconnect the printer, but attention immediately lights up.  Now the orange attention light remains lit and nothing I assure the printer there is no paper jam, so the attention light does not turn off.   What should I do to get the printer to recognize that there are no paper jams and cut the attention light so the printer can get back to a usable state ready?  Please help me as soon as POSSIBLE.  I'm working on a deadline.  Thank you!

    THANKS davidzuts and SHThompson!

It was a very good paper jam, but I couldn't find any paper anywhere, and using heavy paper to make out jam was not working.  I went to feedroller.com and looked up the eyes my specific printer.  I tried their troubleshooting and it mentioned ovens and assembled recording, rolls of transfer, sensors, flags, which was all Greek to me.  At the bottom of the list of items that I saw a link to the videos.  I clicked and it took me to YouTube.  There is nothing specific about a for my printer HP LaserJet 4000 t 13,20 paper jam, but there was one called 'how to fix HP printer error 13.20 to 4200 4250 4300 4350 printer HP series'.  I saw and learned how other similar HP printers came out after the ink cartridge came out.  I tried the same rough with my printer and discovered a whole sheet of paper in boots upwards in the roller behind the flipper.  When I took it off the printer immediately turned off the Attention light and returned to the ready mode!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!
