LaserJet 4L - parallel to USB on an iMac - is it possible?

I still have my trusty old 4 L - Yes, it is 15-20 years and gives always amazing results (and expensive).  Last year, I dropped the Microsoft PC machines and bought an iMac.  I also bought a parallel to USB cable... but it doesn't work.  Am I missing a driver?  Apple claim that they install drivers because known to all (or almost) done but my iMac just ignors the connection completely!

Are there drivers for the iMac that will make this work or do I need to buy more material - the printer is great, but there is a limit on the budget!

Apple has been active in all of 10.5 and above to fill the gap between adobe postscript based architecture print and the "rest of the world" by integrating components of the opensource osx printing architecture.

In the control system in 10.5 to 10.8 - print & fax from Mac OS x, you can add a "Laserjet 4/5 version 1.3' printer PCL."

This means that if your USB cable adapter<>parallel haven really works under OSX, you should see this printerport at the opening of systemcontrols - print & fax-'+' - 'add printer' - 'standard '.

If you click on this port, and then click 'Choose' - 'choose the printing software", you will see this listed PCL driver.

If you do not get a printerport displayed, he contact manufacturer of your card.

You do not have a parallel port on the machine.  Whatever it is sent to the parallel port device should fail on writing.   Change the port to the port of USB00n, created when you plugged the cable.  You will see the port listed in the list of ports.  This will usually USB001 when you have not all printers attached otherUSB. • Is it possible to share a hp color laserjet cp2020 connected via usb to a 32-bit with a 64-bit PC?

I have a client that is running a PC XP 32 - bit that has the Color Laserjet CP2020 connected via USB. It is shared on the network to the other PC, but I've recently upgraded to 2 PC for Windows 7 64 bit and now I can't connect the printer shared for them.

Try the following: install the drivers for Windows 7 x 64 on your Windows 7 machine as if the printer will be attached locally.  Then on the Win 7 machine go devices and printers folder, add a local printer, printer, create a Port, Local Port, \\Computername\Printername (use the name of the actual share of the computer and the printer), OK, then select the cp2020.

    Hello

To do any hardware with Windows, you must install the drivers from the manufacturer for this particular material.

HP tips for the installation of the printer etc., is to install the software drivers first, and then connect the printer.

But the Support drivers HP for your series machine seems to stop to XP:

Have you tried to install the XP drivers to see what happens?

  • HP LaserJet 1200: HP LaserJet 1200 connected via USB to the PC with Windows 7 is not redirected in DRC

    Hello.

HP LaserJet 1200 connected via USB to the PC with Windows 7 (32 bit) and works fine (latest drivers via Windows Update installed).

But when I have connected via RDC (Remote Desktop Connection) for PC with Windows XP and try to print from this PC to LJ1200 - it is not redirected in a remote desktop session and I did not see in printers and Faxes folder.

Other printers from PC with Win7 works fine via DRC (XPS Document Writer and PDFCreator).

During this time when I do the same thing from another PC with Windows XP, LJ1200 (connected via USB to the PC) works very well through the DRC.

Anyone know how to make LJ1200 to be redirected in a remote desktop session?

    Thanks in advance.

For more information, here are 2 possible solutions:

    1. put two computers in the same workgroup and then share the printer and install from the remote computer.

    2. best solution: install on PC with Windows 7 drivers for Windows XP (PCL6) - it works very well as a redirected local printer via DRC!

  • Connect to a printer HP Laserjet 4100 (parallel port only) to a USB 2.0 on the 64-bit computer.

Can I use a parallel (connector 25 pins) - to - cable USB adapter to connect a HP Laserjet 4100 to a computer on Windows 7 (64 bit)? There is no other available ports on this old printer

It is possible, but there have been many reports of the USB parallel adapter does not.

The Belkin adapter seems to work for many.

  • USB hub on iMac end 2015

I recently bought an iMac, retina 4K with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB disc Fusion. It is currently running 10.11.4. I had previously used a beginning 2008 20 "iMac also runs 10.11.4.

The old iMac has a motor attached Kensington 7-port hub which works fine on this machine. I had thought to transfer this hub to my new Mac - even if it's only USB 2 it would be great for my backup drives, printers and scanner.

However, when I connect the hub to the new iMac, it is acknowledged and reset then almost immediately by the Mac that makes it completely useless. The hub always works on my old Mac as well as on my Macbook Pro (early 2011).

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I could make the hub work? You can also (since I'll get one the end anyway) is a seven hub USB 3 ports, which is known to work with this model of iMac, which does not cost the Earth and is available in the United Kingdom. I love the look and the price of the Orico hub and wonder if that market.

I think the problem is that the USB 2 is not compatible, it must be USB3.

However, read this Apple Knowledge Base article and see if it offers additional guidance.

  • Cannot install Windows 10 from USB on older iMac

10.11.2 here on an end Quad Core iMac 2009 (11.1) running. Newly added THAT SSD has a GUID partition scheme. My Superdrive is problems, so I changed the file Info.plist of the Bootcamp Assistant to support my iMac by adding my model # for the readers of preusbsupported, removed the pre and added to my version of boot rom. He then began to create the Windows 10 ISO on the USB without problem. I then start the installation of Windows 7 Bootcamp and more. Once finished, I stop the iMac to be able to do a cold start system and use the startup key Option. I then started on the newly formed Stick Pen labeled EFI. I proceed with the beginning of the installation of Windows 10. However, when I get to the part where fault window to format the Bootcamp partition always reports back that 'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows cannot be installed to GPT disks on EFI systems,'. So that's where I'm stuck. Can anyone shed light on this issue and if there is a solution for this? I appreciate it because I spent hours trying to fix without result! Thanks for your help!

Update: I have done experiments about the above issue and found that if I just let free unallocated space on the SSD for Windows 10 10 Windows install it reformatted and installation takes place. I wonder if the above question has something to do with firmware the in the 2009 end iMac? Anyway, the good news is that I finally got the USB Installer Windows 10 working on an older unsupported late 2009 27 "iMac. 10 Windows installed fine internal DVD drive for the iMac, but who went south so now I have an alternative!

    Hi cowmanchess,

It seems that you are having problems with your USB port on the computer.

Have you tried using a different USB port on the computer?

Have you tried a new USB cable?

How long is the USB cable you are using?

You have a USB hub between the printer and the computer?

Unplug the USB cable and then download the software on the link below. Wait that the installation of the software requires you to connect the cable. Let me know if you get the printer installed?
