Update Windows 7 stuck at 0%
I'm unable to download the Windows updates on my Windows 7 laptop (a Dell Inspiron 3542). When I try it just sits at 0% for the days without moving.
I tried a lot of solutions validated for similar problems with no luck, so I thought I should post my own topic in order to get a solution.

Updated Windows 8 stuck at 0 k, 0% downloaded
I tried various methods (bulk update, update both, selective update updates), but am not able to download and install windows updates. I also tried troubleshooting techniques using the tool and using the command prompt to stop and start services, but nothing helped.
There are a total of 60 important updates that are stuck in this State.
Because of this, I am not able to conduct an updated version 8.1 of Windows either, because it is not visible in my store. In fact, I am facing a similar problem with the store, in which updates are not going through and get stuck between the two.
Pointers to tackle this problem would be useful.
Let it run for a few hours. On my laptop that was also new, he remained at 0%, but it was actually to download updates. Many of them are updates frame lying around long. I had this problem on two different computers complete, I guess it's a windows problem.

Updates Windows 7 stuck in verification mode
After a dismal upgrading to W10, I decided to restore on W7. Everything is fine, but updates are glued to the verification mode. I waited hours, tried tools, checked computer files for corruption, the FixIt Windows thingy... nothing worked. I can't try a bunch of command prompts or removing and reinstalling stuff more things. Someone has another help or am I screwed because Microsoft deliberately sabotaging W7? Frustrated! Thank you.
You have two options here.
Option 1 - use a guide to solve the problem
You can read my wiki article on how to solve this specific problem. Attention, it requires technical skills to some extent. That being said, here is the link:
Windows Update stuck on "checking for updates... ».
Option 2 - use the Roll-Up of the Windows Update
Recently, Microsoft has packed all the updates of Windows 7 over the past five years in a single, easy-to-install package. Instead of spending hours trying to install updates 200 +, just install the roll-up and make. Personally, I would say this to option 1. I wrote an article of wiki for more details. Here is the link:

Updates Windows 7 - stuck on 'check updates'...
I have a HP desktop computer. Running Windows 7 Home Premium. Recently upgraded to the 10 Windows (while it was free). Discovered that even after the analysis of compatibility says 'OK' I had to call Microsoft for more help and told me that my computer was not compatible. Asked why the analysis said it was. No real answer not followed. Little has been said to restore to Windows 7. After that I have known issues. Before the update of window 10, this computer has been running great!
in any case, I noticed recently that my computer is not updated. When I go on ' check for updates ', it just stays on that. The status bar does not move, but just on the 'check updates' for days. The only way to stop it is to restart the computer. But I know there are updates because my other computer is up-to-date (did not upgrade Windows 10 - but is currently running Windows 7). So, I have sen the videos and articles on remove and clean up the folder "Software Distribution". I did it several times and it DOESN'T WORK. At one point, I decided to do a factory restore. Took the computer to update 1. At ran Windows Update and found 16 available updates and other things to seem to be good. But noticed once the "Service Pack 1" has been downloaded and installed the Windows Update is blocked again. So, I'm lost here. What can I do? Is there a solution? Or should I trash this computer and buy a MAC? Questions please ask.
Help, please... Thank you!
See this thread and perform the steps exactly. I did the following steps on several computers and they work.

windows update (windows 8) stuck at "downloading updates, 0 percent.
Ive left for 5 minutes now and all I get is the following: http://imgur.com/vAIxmpA
Help me, pleaseDon't know if this will help anyone having the same problem, but I suggest you to be patient. Just to be clear, not while you wait for an answer here from someone at Microsoft, who actually understands the question, but as he tried a first time Windows Update on a new machine.
I just ran WU for the first time on a new machine and had the same problem as Freddie and Jas. After about 15 minutes, I started to google and ended up here. Then I followed the link given in Karthik's "method 1" above, to see that there is a dead link.
Then I went to google others and happened at a glance to the new machine, in this time of 20-25 minutes after the start of WU, and here, it 'preparing to install' and is now, as I type, installation updated 23 73.
What I suspect, is that the download progress is not reported, so it indicates 0% until all updates have been downloaded, which could take some time for a new machine for the first time, according to your connection speed and how many updates are currently running WU.
I would say at least an hour before giving up if nothing happens.

Update of Windows 8 stuck at 12%
Update Windows 8 stuck at 12%. Frustrating because I had to deal with the error 13% already. Any ideas? Thank you!
Hi all
Update for Windows 8 (KB2771431) was released in December 2012, which the fixed an issue that was causing this update stops responding at 12% and caused also updated KB2756872 to stop responding to 13% of configuration updates.
If you hide one of these up-to-date or disabled the automatic updates to avoid this problem, you can now activate or restore your updates and search for new updates. Details on how to restore updates can be found here.
To search for new updates:
- Type Windows Update in the start screen, press or click settings, and then tap or click install optional updates.
- Press or click the link in the upper left corner that says check the updates.

Automatic updates is stuck and includes most of the computing resources, does not download updates (windows xp).
After restarting a couple of times and the computer almost melt it finally resolved itself but would like to know how to solve/speed "constipation" where it would happen again.
Have automatic updates set in place to be notified, but not to download or install before you have manually committed. Launched the download but then icon taskbar disappeared and cannot cancel downloads when the computer started to overheat. Restarted.
East went to the Microsoft Update Web site, but got stock without ever generating the list of updates. Restarted.
Went to link to FixIt for this type of problem and it just downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and indicated that nothing was available to open this type of file. Should a FixIt application be installed first? He is yet to provide suggestions on how to proceed.
Aversion to disable the automatic updates if would like more information on how to have a greater mastery of the process that it hogs computer and interfere with the realization of planned work.
Kind regards.
Thanks for the reply.
I agree that it is not dust on the fan - read my response above.
As I said above, I have concluded that the solution to the problem of automatic updates are unruly must all just use to be notified when updates are available, but then go on the site of Microsoft Updates and make the download / installation of the updates from there. Doing it this way is much less likely to cause problems and offer better control of the user. Once Microsoft Updates ends the taskbar icon disappears until the next time updates are available.

Update Windows stuck in a loop. Keeps trying to download page 3 of 3, but never does, then restarts and is trying to download. Can't stop the loop to try something else.
The operating system is Windows Vista.
I found this as a solution and to share it here, I still have questions, but thinking might help someone.
Windows Vista and 7 update Reboot Loop Fix
Symptom: You have a update that is causing Windows Vista or Windows 7, stuck in an infinite loop. The problem usually manifests as a "step 3 of 3:0 % complete...". "followed by a restart which starts at the exact same message, not allowing you to get on your account of connection or a desktop at all. It's a pain, and he doesn't stop, even in Mode without failure or advanced trying last good known Configuration in the start menu.
Here is the short version for people who know how to get to tools to do this and if run System Restore from the installation DVD does not work: DELETE files
\Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.XML AND (as applicable)
\Windows\WinSxS\pending.XML and the infinite loop update will be set.
There are two ways to get the files, you need to delete. The easiest is to start your installation of Windows and the button 'Install now' DVD, click on the link located at the bottom left that says 'Repair your computer' open a command prompt and type:
del C:\Windows\WinSxS\cleanup.xml
del C:\Windows\WinSxS\pending.xml
The other way is to download a live Linux distribution such as the System of Tritech Service (which, unlike Vista or 7 DVD, can be booted from a USB flash drive for computers with no CD/DVD drive such as netbooks), open a command prompt, mount the file system and deleting the files. Assuming that your Windows installation is the first partition on the first hard disk, the following commands in rxvt or a console in the Tritech Service system should work:
Mount.NTFS - 3 g/dev/sda1/mnt/sda1
RM /mnt/sda1/Windows/*/cleanup.xml /mnt/sda1/Windows/*/pending.xml
umount/mnt/sda1
discount to zero f
Anyway you do it, this solution will stop the engine update loop reboot and let you return to your computer. You may need to make some corrections, additional or manual updates if you have problems, but unless your login screen and/or the Office should be accessible! Is a very annoying problem and I noticed that Google is looking for things like "stage of vista 3 3 restart" usually only provides information about how to run the system on a Vista DVD restore. Unfortunately, if there is a problem with an update, sometimes the system restore does not work and fail with obscure errors, so this info is vital.
Maybe it's your last chance to avoid giving to the top and reinstalling Windows, and we always like avoiding relocations!
