Upgrade of Vista SP2-loss of internet connection

I upgraded a VISTA 64 laptop computer to SP2 yesterday evening.  He seems to have retained my 802.11n network configuration, but since the upgrade will connect only locally, not to the internet via the wireless connection.  (It is not a problem with my network or modem, as another VISTA laptop wireless and other devices will continue to work properly.)  The ethernet connection works fine. I tried:

  • disable the firewall (Norton)
  • Diagnose and repair
  • confirmed connection to the router
  • newspapers of router checked-only MAC address is not blocked
  • updated the Intel 4965AGN driver to the latest version

Any suggestions?  I am reluctant to completely recede SP2 unless absolutely necessary.

lopburi3,

This looks exactly like my question.  While I do not understand what has happened, I found a solution. Try this:

  • Log into your router and check what IP address is assigned to the computer that is not connecting.  If there is no assignment yet, give it a static address.
  • Go into your wireless connection TCP/IP properties and enter the manual configuration information: IP address assigned, the subnet mask and the router (default gateway) address.

For me, allowed me to connect through Internet.

Edit:
as a first step, I had to re - enter the manual configuration after each reboot, and my router would not correctly identify the MAC address of my laptop (he appeared as 00:00:00:00:00:00).  After a couple more re - start last night, the computer retains the settings, so I could connect without having to re-enter the configuration, if the router is not yet MAC address list.

I've then updated the firmware on my router last night.  (D-Link DIR-655)  Now, after another reboot, everything seems to work properly, with the portable duly identified in the router. There was clearly a problem with the network adapter and the router communicates correctly. brodyboy

    Hello

I have a very serious problem, started only last Monday, I was using my laptop to last more than three years and having a problem just last week about the loss of internet connection after an hour or two after restarting the laptop.

I thought that a virus could have an effect on this, so last night I reinstalled the operating system, but it does not work too. I connect to the internet via an ethernet to a motorola modem cable, do not know how to solve this problem now.

I searched through various sites and followed quite a few options but that did not help. Still have a problem, someone please answer as soon as POSSIBLE. I have a very important session the game and on Fri and it will be very costly if I can't then I would like to be back to normal as soon as POSSIBLE.

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your Modem > make sure you have the latest Firmware in Vista for it.

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/notebook > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > look for it last network adapters Vista drivers > download/install the.

  • Updates 2478658 KB and KB2518864 could not install and cause a loss of internet connectivity

    Hello

Updates KB2478658 and KB2518864 cannot be installed in my SBS 2003 and caused a loss of internet connectivity.

A while ago, I had a similar problem, i.e. do not install and loss of internet connectivity after you apply Windows Server 2003 SP2 on SBS. In this case, we have solved the problem with the support of a Customer Support person Microsoft, a service through which we paid.

According to the suggestions that I found in the Microsoft Web sites, I managed to remove everything that was installed by the KB2478658 and KB2518864 updates and the reinstalled successfully. I did these manually because I don't have an internet connection.

After you have reinstalled the above mentioned security updates, I repeated all the steps that led to the problem of the previous time. Among the steps taken, have been indicated in:

Common problems of networking after you apply Windows Server 2003 SP2 on SBS

Unfortunately, I was unable to restore connectivity to the internet this time.

There is connection between the NETWORK card and router. I could ping the NIC IP address, but not that of the router (I get an "unreachable" message).

I look forward to suggestions and recommendations to solve this problem. I have already paid once resolved a problem that was not directly caused by me and do not wish to do it again.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi JL,.

Your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums as it is related to a problem with small business server. It should be better in the Windows Server Forums of business.

  • Slow start after upgrade of Vista SP2

I've upgraded to Vista SP2 may 27 09, whenever I rebooted, because it takes an age to password screen to display. Later, he takes my OS a long loading time of all programs.

I suggest to perform a clean boot to prevent loading in the background startup programs.

You can have a few contradictory items running in the background and the origin of this problem.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. This article describes how to solve problems in Windows Vista by performing a clean boot. This article also describes how to start the Windows Installer service and how to reset the computer so that it starts as usual.

Note When you perform a clean boot, you may temporarily lose some functionality. When you start the computer as usual, the function returns. However, you may receive the error message, or you can experience the original behavior.

If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We recommend strongly that you do not use System Configuration utility to change startup options on the computer, unless a support engineer Microsoft directs you to do so. This can make the computer unusable.

    a. log in the computer using an account with administrator rights.

    b. click Start collapse this image enlarge this image, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER to start the System Configuration utility.

The collapse of this image to this image if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click continue .

    c. under the general tab, click Selective startup , and then clear the Load Startup items check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)

    d. on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft services check box and then click on disable all .

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    e. click OK , and then click restart .

Step 2: Enable half the services

    a. follow steps 1a and 1B to start the System Configuration utility.

    b. click on the Services tab and then click to select the hide all Microsoft services check box.

    c. Click to select half of the check boxes in the Service list.

    d. click OK and then click restart .

Step 3: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem persists, repeat steps 1 and 2. In step 2, click to clear half of the check boxes that you have initially enabled in the Service list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat steps 1 and 2. In step 2, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the Service list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one service is selected in the list of services , and you the problem persists, the service selected the cause of the problem. Go to step 6. If no service is causing this problem, go to step 4.

Step 4: Enable half of the startup items

    a. perform a clean boot by repeating step 1.

    b. click on the Startup tab and then click to select half of the check boxes in the startup item list.

    c. click OK , and then click restart .

Step 5: Determine whether the problem returns

If the problem persists, repeat steps 1 and 4. In step 4, click to clear half of the check boxes that you have originally selected in the startup item list.

If the problem does not occur, repeat steps 1 and 4. In step 4, select only half of the remaining check boxes that are cleared in the startup item list. Repeat these steps until you have selected all the check boxes.

If only one startup item is selected in the startup item list, and you still experience the problem, start selected in the list element is the service that is causing the problem. Go to step 6.

If no startup item causes this problem, a Microsoft service most likely the cause of the problem. To determine which Microsoft service may be causing the problem, repeat step 1 and step 2 without selecting the hide all Microsoft services check box in each step.

    Step 6: Resolve the problem

After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

Step 7: Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

Click on start to reduce this image enlarge this image, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

The collapse of this image to this image if you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click continue .

On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK .

When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart .

    Hope this helps :)

  • Windows Update 12/15/2010 causes a loss of internet connectivity

After you perform the update 12-15 and rebooted the computer creates a loss of internet connectivity on our HP Pavilion (Windows 7). I confirmed this because I deleted updates and connectivity returns.

While this loss of connection the network and sharing Center shows that it is connected to the network and to the internet.

There were 10 updates total, for most updates of security, IE 8 1 update and an update of the malicious attack tool.

I disabled updates automatic for the moment, however really puzzled by this and don't find any problems in the database about it.

    Ideas? Thank you!!

    Hi BillHarsh,

You can manually download and install the updates one by one from the Microsoft Download Center & check if the problem persists.

    Hello

Definitely looks like a problem with the network device. Check with sound
Support, their books online, the drivers and ask in their forums (if any)
on known problems. If there is a control of the device shipped with the system
Manufacturer (manufacturer of motherboard for customized systems). If a device check separated
with the support of its creator and other resources.

You could also remove or disable the device and try a new add-on as one
new card or device USD. None of those who are dear.

  • Anyone else experiencing the random loss of internet connection while using character animator?

I seem to have a random loss of internet connection when performing character animator.

Look into this further. It seems not related to the animation of character since today, it seems to happen randomly when running a simple browser. I think that maybe it's just my old router is about to die. I deleted my DNS cache and renewed my IP address and reset my router, so I hope that's all it took. Otherwise, it may be time for a new router.

  • just installed a last set of updates to security for vista, but now my Internet connection disappeared.

Hi, I recently installed a series of updates to security for vista sp2 final, but now I've lost my Internet connection...
I can get into safe mode with network and get on this path ok but obviously not ideal.
I can see the latest patches from the Control Panel, etc., but when I want to uninstall the latest series does not appear. Anyone know how I can uninstall these and again one by one to find the culprit.
Pulling my hair so any help greatly appreciated.

    Borrowed from Try3

You have McAfee? McAfee has been updated at the same time as the last batch of updates from Windows 7 and this is the cause of problems of internet connection for most, if not all, users of McAfee.

See the communication from this "criticism" - McAfee

Some customers may experience a loss of network connectivity and/or errors in McAfee Security Center after a recent update

You should make the fix McAfee, if necessary. There are corresponding communications for their enterprise products.

    I hope this helps.

  • Loss of internet connection

I use a wireless adapter wg111t. Intermittently, my connection completely disappears and I have to turn off and restart. The loss of connection is accompanied by the mouse cursor (mouse Microsoft Wireless) gel, generally with the pointer to highlight text, then after about 30 seconds, that it thaws, but not internet connection and the adapter could also well be installed because it does not appear in Control Panel. I have the adapter plugged into USB port high speed, the adapter flashes but the light on the USB port for the USb port relevsant is released when the connection is lost. I checked if there are IRS conflicted and can't find anything, I will also be changed to a different mouse and still have the same problem.

    Hello

    ·         The question is limited to Internet Explorer?

Try the methods provided below and see if they help to resolve the issue.

    Method 1:

    Step 1:

I suggest boot mode safe mode with network and check if the problem persists.

Networking in safe mode starts Windows in safe mode and includes the network drivers and services needed to access the Internet or other computers on your network.

The Advanced Boot Options screen lets you start Windows in advanced troubleshooting mode. You can access the menu by turning on your computer and pressing the F8 key before Windows starts.

See the link below for more details:

    Startup options (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If the problem persists in Mode safe mode with networking, you can perform the clean boot on the system and solve the problem.

Put your boot system helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.

See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    Note:

After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

  • Loss of Internet connection and Windows 7

In our headquarters, we have a desktop system running Windows 7, but also an iMac.  The two are connected to Apple's Time Capsule, which serves as a router and a backup for the iMac hard drive. (our Internet connection is cable Internet, by the way.)

Since upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7, the Windows 7 Desktop faces of frequent Internet connection errors.  Generally, it loses the connection to the Internet several times per day.

Today, it's the worst event we've seen so far (since the upgrade to Windows 7 last week).  We usually only an Internet connection for about 2-3 minutes, then it is lost and needs to be repaired.

We enter the control panel > network and sharing Center > issues > Internet connections

Let us Windows 7 automatically diagnose and repair the problem.

Whenever he goes through the stages of diagnosis and repair, it ends by "reset the connection area card."

At the end of the process - after everything has been repaired - we get the following report:

"Default gateway is not available - fixed.

Should what measures we take to permanently solve this problem?

Moreover, the iMac does NOT have Internet connection issues whatsoever.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know what you use to assign addresses, so I guess it's a router of some sort. You will need to go to the website of manufacturers, look at the manual and know how to limit the DHCP address field. I changed mine to limit the address 192.168.1.200 thanks 192.168.1.250 DHCP assignment. Your router can use the 10. subnet, so your address may be different, depends on the manufacturer of the router, or if you use a DHCP, the scope with the DHCP server. Gives me 50 IP addresses for all the guests who may want to use wired or wireless connections and should be more than enough. This allows me to attributed to the 192.168.1.1 through 192.168.1.199 a device and not having to worry about the DHCP server, you try to use one that is applied continuously to a device (printer, switch, PC, server, virtual server, etc.).

Once this configuration of your router, you will now need to assign a static ip address to your PC. All this is done for the network card.

    On the start menu:
    Control Panel
    Network and Internet
    Network and sharing Center
In the right pane of network and sharing Center
Change the settings of the card
    Double-click your network adapter
    Check the box «Détails»
    Note the following lines:
Connection specific DNS (may or may not exist, depends on the provider)
    IPv4 subnet
    IPv4 default gateway
    IPv4 DNS servers

Once you have written those down, you can close this box.
You should be back at the "Local Area Connection Status" box.
    Select the option "Properties".
Select 'Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)', which will be in a blue when selected.
    Now, select the option "Properties".
"IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4) properties" box should have popped up. If so:
    Select the following text:
    "Use following IP address".
In the IP address box, enter an IP address. Example: 192.168.1.20
Press the tab, the subnet must fill automatically, otherwise, enter the "Subnet IPv4" value you noted in the above step. Examp, e: 255.255.255.0
The bridge of dafult, enter the value of the above procedure. Example: 192.168.1.254

Now switch to the next 2 boxes, DNS servers. You can have only 1 entry in DNS server of the DNS entry you noted from above.
Enter the DNS servers that you noted above.

If there is "Connection specific DNS" writing or entries, follow these steps (otherwise, skip the sections "Connection DNS"):
    Select the option "Advanced".
The "Additional TCP/IP parameters" window should open
    Select the "DNS" tab

If it has more than 1 input "Connection specific DNS", follow these steps:
Select it "add DNS suffixes (in order):
    Select "Add..." »
In the "suffix domain', enter the first connection specific DNS entry.
    Select the option 'Add '.
Add all the specific DNS suffixes that you noted. You can enter one at a time.
When the radio button finished choose "OK".

If you have only 1 entry in "Connection specific DNS":
Entitled "DNS suffix for this connection", enter the entry you noted above for the "specific" connection DNS
When the radio button finished choose "OK".

Check the "validate their output parameters.

Select the radio button 'OK '.

    Select the radio button "close".

You should see the "Windows Network Diagnostics' open and check for any problems. I hope that everything is fine and he says 'Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem' and choose 'Close the Troubleshooter'.
Close additional boxes or pop-ups that are open and check and make the connection sure allis. If not, go back and check all the steps. the most common are the IP addresses and gateways.

Good luck. After back if it solves the problem.

  • Connect a HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 to router Netgear N600 loss of internet connection.

Whenever the OfficeJet printer is connected to one of the ethernet to a Netgear N600 router ports, the internet connection is lost. Internet works without any complications, if the printer is not connected to the network. As soon as the ethernet cable from the printer is connected to the router (or a network switch) the internet connection is lost. If I look at the devices using the Netgear browser interface, everything seems appropriate. The printer uses DHCP and you will receive various IP addresses according to what remains is connected (e.g. 192.168.1.3). I've narrowed the problem to the printer, causing the loss of connectivity internet thie. Attach only my computer to the router (may be an iMac or a Windows XP system), internet works fine, plug the printer results in a loss of interest. Printer works fine and the documents can be printed after you connect to one of the ethernet ports.

I tried to set a static IP address on the printer (e.g. 192.168.1.100) so that the attribution of a static address with the interface of Netgear using the MAC address of the printer - no approach fixes the problem. Netgear support is perplexed (they have even sent a replacement router, thinking it was defectiive, the two routers show the same problem). I have reset the printer to its default settings in order to eliminate potential conflicts with modified parameters. I also tried to change the speed of the link to something else than "Automatic", nothing seems to work.

We will define an external static IP and DNS address for the printer.  I think that the external DNS will do the trick.

-Print a the front of the printer Network Setup Page. Note the IP address of the printer.
-Enter the IP address in a browser to reveal the internal settings of the printer.
-Choose the network tab, then wireless along the left side, then on the IPv4 tab.
-On this screen, you want to set a manual IP address. You must assign an IP address outside the range that the router sets automatically (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') 250
-Apply the subnet 255.255.255.0 (unless you know it's different, if so, use it)
-Enter the IP of your router (on the Page of the Network Config) for the gateway.
-Enter for the first DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for second DNS. It's Google DNS. You can choose a different external DNS if you wish.
    -Click 'apply '.

Now, stop the router and printer, start the router, wait, and then start printing.
