  Windows 7 32-bit is hardcoded only address 4 GB of TOTAL memory. If you have 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of video RAM, your video card gets 1 GB which means now Windows has only 3 GB of memory left to address (even if you have 4 GB of free RAM). If you could see, for example, 4 GB RAM usable on Vista then that is because HP manipulate the 32 bit pre-installed o/s to visibly see 4 GB not the Afore mentioned 3 GB MAX.
