USB 2.0 & 3.0, HP Envy m6-1225dx Notbook PC USB Ports, which is which?

Hi all.  (My laptop is configured with 3) USB 3.0 ports and 1) USB 2.0 port.  2 ports are located @ front left side, and the other 2 are @ right rear of connecting the power supply...  How to distinguish between USB 2.0 and 3.0?

Hello

A USB3.0 ports should be a symbol of the SS beside him (SS = Super Speed). #17 & #18 od the following manual pages show you where:

  • HP Envy x 360 (M1V68UA): USB Ports all failed - resembled HW failure, but resolved by reinstalling a driver

This post is an explanation of the complete absence of the laptop (2.0 & 3.0) USB ports and the later hotfix.

Suspecting a hardware failure, I ran the Diagnostics UEFI and received confirmation of a default by a character 27 failure code.  This type of information is supposed to be useful to someone, but I couldn't find any documentation on this failure on the Web code and technician HP customer care has never offered an explanation.  The ID of the failure, I received was:

    0GF87X-7NW88A-GXGJMF-8D3Q03

I made arrangements to ship the laptop to HP repair, but while waiting to receive their shipping box, I continued to research.  I happened to run System Mechanic from iolo and noticed a tool "Toolbox |" Recover | Troubleshooting of the system"that took me as a result of convenience store window 10.  I ran the hardware and devices troubleshooter, and confirmed a problem with the USB ports.  But, surprisingly, the fix was to install the latest driver for the Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller (USBXHCI. (SYS).

Once the driver has been reinstalled, the USB port problem has been resolved.  He worked for 3 days and I was able to back up my laptop on an external hard drive into a USB port, as I usually do.

So if you see a problem with your USB ports, which can resemble a hardware failure, it is better running of the utility window hardware & peripheral troubleshooting.  It can save you an unnecessary repair work.

As I understand it you had conducted a test of material using the UEFI diagnostic tool and received a failure ID, however, you install the latest driver and solved the problem.

I'm glad that worked for you, even if you keep the only common, the ID of the failure you captured represents a "Communication error" device on devices such as GPS, switch and/or USB, HUB, Modem, network card, network drive, PCI, PCMCIA card.

Install the most recent driver is one of the first steps to solve the communication error, however, if the problem is intermittent because it sometimes a repair would be the best way to go.

  • Tecra M11-134 - Windows 7 USB ports problems

I have three USB ports, that which is a SATA port.

SATA port stopped working earlier, but I reinstalled it, after what it worked again.

One of the USB ports however stopped working earlier, and am now unsure as to if this particular port doesn't show even in Device Manager (I see two entries "Generic USB Hubs", two "USB host controllers", a "USB unit (composed)" and two "USB root hubs"), but who is refers to the regular USB ports and that the SATA port?

One of these entries in the USB port which does not or does not show this port?

In any case, I can't get one of the ports to work even after reinstalling all USB ports.
    Can anyone help?

I hope that someone with the same machine will describe the own experience with this, but what I want to know is follow:
Have you tried to reinstall original Win7 32-bit professional and test functionality with the factory settings?
    >... even after reinstalling all USB ports
Out of curiosity, but how you did it? Have you reinstalled the chipset driver?

  • Satellite C650 15Z two USB ports have stopped working / load

Hi can someone throw their professional opinion on a current problem I am experiencing with my

    Satellite C650 15Z
    Windows 7

There are 2 USB ports which are now both inoperative - there seems to be no power from them (ipad/phones do not charge) and any flash drive I insert does not appear as a drive in my computer
and I don't hear audible alerts or message pop ups after insertion. Like I don't know what I look in Device Manager, I thought that someone may be able to help here?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello

In Device Manager, you can try to delete and remove the USB host controller and USB hubs.
All these devices are responsible for the functionality of USB ports.
After you remove the USB host controller and USB hubs, restart the laptop.
Usually the Windows operating system should recognize the devices automatically deleted after that, you can check if the USB feature is back.

  • Satellite Pro C850-19W got a USB port broken in 2 days only

Just got my new laptop and tried to install all my programs and move all my old files from my other laptop for two days.
He was works well, I left it and when I woke it standby mode, the mouse connected to this USB port is on but does not. The mouse works fine in the other 2 USB ports...
I have two USB 2.0 ports and a USB 3.0 on this machine, and the USB port which is placed in the left side next to the power connector has stopped working.
It has the power it turns on Microsoft's USB mouse which has been connected since the first start, but it will not accept any communication at all.

I rebooted in safe mode, uninstalled all the USB controllers and restarted, advice, I found here in the forum, but the USB port remains dead.
Looks like this is a question with many Toshiba laptops and not even sure, I want it to be more I m.

    What to do now?

Have you tested the feature with another device like USB key?

  • Satellite C660-258 Series USB ports

Well basically one of my USB ports, the closest for me to be more precise is reported missing.
At first I thought that the USB slot might be brouilla somewhere, somehow, but after watching upstairs and downstairs I found nothing.

I have absolutely no idea what happened because the day before, I had been using my USB slot perfectly and the next I'm going to use it and it is not what makes me very suspicious of how these Toshiba laptops are set up since I was the only one who uses the thing.

I resorted to my 2nd USB port which worked for about 2 weeks after another the disappeared but now it has also stopped working and I need some advice on the question of whether I can restore the other somehow or if it could be physically damaged in some way.

I rang Toshiba while my laptop was still under warranty on it, but they told me the usb slots are not covered by the latter and told him it could be quite an expensive repair because the ports are connected to the motherboard. I don't want to really folk big money to solve this problem, given A) I don't think I can afford it & B) I don't feel like paying a large sum of money, because frankly I didn't use excessive force for her to get out or get pushed in which really makes me the issue of making the laptop.

Can someone give me advice on what I could do because I rely heavily on my USB ports/slots

    > I rang Toshiba while my laptop was still under warranty on it, but they told me the usb slots are not covered by the latter and told him it could be quite an expensive repair because the ports are connected to the motherboard.

This is nonsense if the warranty is valid, any part of the material is covered by the warranty so its no matter if the USB ports are defective or other parts if there is a hardware failure, the service partner should set free.

But in your case I would guarantee that it is really a hardware failure
Take a recovery disc or use HARD drive recovery option to put the laptop back to factory settings.
If the USB ports wouldn't even using the pre-configured Toshiba system, then hardware problem might be possible

In this case get in touch with the Toshiba ASP in your country and ask for help.

    Hi guys,.

Could someone help me please, I got a Toshiba A60 equinum which worked perfectly up until when all the USB ports on the laptop refuses to answer. I tried to bypass the USB by getting a cardbus to be inserted into the pcmcia bus, but still did not respond. I can guess that the chipset may have problem. I'm thinking of the chipset was corrupted software.

If my guess could be considered nearest, what could you suggsest I wish someone could help profer a solution to this problem.

    Thank you

    Hi Sola_2,

Wait a moment and have a look in Device Manager. Are the USB port which is are listed correctly?
You should try to remove all the USB ports on the Device Manager, and then restart the laptop. After that the ports will be recognized again.

Try by also updating the BIOS and chipset driver. Both can be downloaded from the Toshiba site.

  • USB ports, CD/DVD player, and Mike just does not work

So I'm pretty sure that these things are happening at the same time, although there are risks my trying to troubleshoot the USB ports have contributed to the failure of the microphone (internal and will not capture sound) and cd/dvd drive (not open). Perhaps? It is true that I know little about these kinds of things, but I'm much less following the indications which is what I did to try to tackle the problem of USB port, which was the first I noticed. I followed all the advice I could find online for troubleshooting when all usb ports do not respond. I used Device Manager to disable in its regular and safe mode. I also uninstalled them all in both modes (even if they reinstall until I'm able to restart). I unplugged and wait 5, 10, 15 min etc. There was a difficulty mentioned about watching the. Mine and INF files do not contain the mentioned error. I'm tempted to all my files backup and restore the computer to factory settings, especially now that the CD/DVD player and the micro does not work. This would solve the problem? If these things are related? Could even restore settings because I can't have in the cd/dvd drive? It's a dell inspiron 1721, and it crushed while you restart for almost a whole day just all the time I've began to notice all these malfunctions. I really appreciate any guidance!

Good so I solved all of these problems. I don't know what did the trick, but when I went back in the BIOS to re - activate the ports they have worked!

  • LOCKED USB PORTS

I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE SEVERAL USB PORTS, WHICH ARE "LOCKED".
FIRST OF ALL) IS IT POSSIBLE
SECOND) HOW CAN THEY BE UNLOCKED.

    Hello TURNERMJJM,

    ·         Where did you find that the USB ports are locked?

    ·         You are able to use all of the USB ports on your computer?

If you are able to use all of the USB ports on the computer, it means that none of the ports are locked.

The USB ports can be locked using Group Policy writing, but if you are the administrator of the computer, and you are not on a domain, all your USB ports must be open.

  • My sound card think it uses a USB port broken.

I had a usb port which changed the sound card to be analog outlet, so I could plug in my mic for my helmet. The usb broke inside my laptop and now the sound comes again that through the analog channels that are now broken and not by my speakers. I reinstalled the drivers and disabled and enabled usb ports which was while he broke.

    Hey Conor,

Generally this is due because of material related issues. The USB could have stuck before is placed in the port. I suggest you to contact the computer manufacturer for more help on this issue.

  • Spider3 Elite and USB Port

I am trying to use the legacy Spider3 elite for the first time on my new computer windows 7 to calibrate the screen. I get the message: that it does not recognize the legacy plug in the USB Port, which is the Spider3 who I am plug in. How can I go to get this problem? Thanks for your help.
I'm not sure under which the subject to put this so I thought it was the right place.

The answer, I discovered, is that the Spyder works only ports USB 2.0 and 3.0 not.  I used it on a 3.0 port. He now works very well. My computer has 2.0 than a single port that is on the side of her.
