USB 2.0 question

Most of my PC show USB 2.0 in Device Manager and they run forward to USB 2.0 devices. They're all running XP Pro SP 3.

But I have this machine, also under XP Pro SP3, which shows no USB 2.0 port and not improved USB in Device Manager.

USB 2.0 depends on hardware, drivers, or both?

Should I look for SIS USB 2.0 for XP driver? (Can't find one) or just leave it alone, because it is a hardware problem?

Yes, I thought that. But when I look through the BIOS configuration screens I don't see anything that identifies the level of the USB ports (front and rear). FWIW, this is an old tower Medion 2.4 Ghz I picked up on the side of the road and rehabilitated.  I can look in the USB card. Would be nice to know how to identify the level of USB support in the box, however.

Thank you

Chuck

If it shows no "enhanced" in disk management, it is not 2.0.

  • Satellite P70 - USB-A - 3 questions

    Hello

After the installation of update Windows 8.1 on my Toshiba laptop, I have following strange behaviour:

My external drive USB 3, which works perfectly on all other computers, only works on one of the four ports USB 3 (the upper left). If I connect it to the a 3 other ports, its "On" lights up, but it is not recognized by Windows (whether in 'My Computer', Device Manager or disk management) and I can't use it.

If I disable the USB 3 support via the utility 'System Settings', the drive is recognized by all ports.
I have re installed all drivers, followed the order of installation in the instructions but still nothing.

No idea why this is happening?

    Hello

I think that you should first check if the update 8.1 Win was really the reason of this problem.
That's why I recommend you delete / undo the last Microsoft Update.
You can do this by setting the system to a previous state.

By the way: the USB 3.0 driver is part of the Windows System. Microsoft driver and it could be possible that updates received MS updated USB driver 3.0 as well.

However the issue described resembles the external HDD doesn't receive enough power from the USB port. The need for USB 3.0 devices round on 900mA power in order to work properly.

Try to connect the USB HDD on two USB ports using the USB Y cable.
It would be interesting to know if this contributes to make it work.

  • Overview of 2014 still USB 3 hub question

There is a long-standing problem with USB3 devices plugged into a hub - if a guest Windows 7 runs when the device/hub is connected, devices are not available at the reception (no matter what you choose in the dialog box).  Even when the merger stops devices remain inaccessible until you reboot the host or plug it into another USB port on the host computer.

Any issues with the merger, that's my point of great pain - I swap drives through hubs (or turn them on and off all the time).  A big request that it be corrected in the next version.

I looked in our bug report internal on the issue of USB 3.0 hub, and it seems that the problem is a combination of Fusion claiming out of USB devices (in order to connect to a virtual computer or host), and a problem with USB 3.0 driver Apple not to issue a reset command correct to devices connected through a hub.

There is a possible solution if you want to try:

1 pause or stop the virtual machines running, and stop melting.

    2. ensure that the vmware-usbarbitrator process is no longer running.

3 create/modify host-global configuration file, with root privileges: (this example uses nano, but feel free to use another editor)

    sudo nano Fusion Library/Preferences/VMware\/config

    4. Add the following line to disable the automatic suitor of USB devices:

    usbarb.autoconnect.claimAll = "FALSE".

5 save the file and exit the editor.

With this change, all USB devices should automatically connect to the host, even when virtual machines are running. Note that it will completely disable the USB connection prompt and stop devices to automatically connect to virtual machines (even if the option is selected in the settings). However, it should always be possible to manually connect USB devices to a computer running virtual (except perhaps in cases where the reset command is not correctly broadcast via the hub).

I have a 6100 Pro of the Satellite with the USB 1.1 and I would like to install a pc card in the side slot which will act as a USB 2.0 / Firewire conector to increase speed, when using USB. My question is - is this possible with the 6100 series? the card will act as a separate high-speed 2.0 USB while others (oem) remain at 1.1.
If it's ok does anyone know name and type to use pc card?
    I am running windows xp.

    Hello

However, I know that it of possible to use 2 x PCMCIA Type II cards and 1 x of Type III PCMCIA card. In addition, the PCMCIA port supports 16 and 32 bit cards.
You can use USB 2.0 + FireWire 1394 Combo PCMCIA Card like this:

Of course, you can also try to use another.

  • How can I install Windows 7 on asus x501a with usb flash

I have an asus X501a windows 8 on it now, I would like to clean install windows 7 on it. This model with no dvd rom usb player is the only solution. Menu of boot Asus is very complicated because it is menu uefi, I'm completely confused, please help me how to clean install win 7.

    concerning

    Mr. Fadil

    Here is the solution:

    (1) place a bootable copy of Windows 7 on the USB key in question (there are several utilities to accomplish this, including PowerISO, v4.8 or superior and USB DVD Tool from Microsoft

    2) access the bios during the startup with F2

    (3) enable MSC startup and Save tab

    (4) re-boot and re - access the bios with F2

    (5) select the USB (the one without prefix of UEFI) as an option of Boot #1 and Save

    (6) re-boot and Windows 7 will launch its installation from the USB

    * Once the initial installation takes place and the machine re boots, you must re - access the bios, WSC, disable and set the internal hard drive as the Boot #1 option and save

I have finished the taks in the order described above and have a copy of Windows 7 X 64 running on the ASUS X501A job.

  • Wireless remote access disk attached to the router wi - fi via USB

I access the internet from Windows 7, you use a wi - fi FiOS router. It has a USB port on the router. I connected an external hard drive (already correctly formatted) to the USB port. QUESTION: How can I access the HDD (wireless) of Windows 7? Currently, Windows 7 does not indicate the presence of the external drive.

If you have the Actiontec MI424WR (Verizon FIOS router more common) the USB port is pretty useless.  Here is a quote from the Manual:

"The USB port provides up to 5 VDC for the devices connected (to recharge a mobile phone, for example). In the future, with an update of the firmware version, the USB host feature will be available as external storage devices and cameras. »

  • BitLocker without TPM refuses to recognize the USB key at startup.

I have a Windows 7 PC, I'd need to BitLocker, but it fails to recognize the USB key at startup. I've resorted to skip verification and now enter the recovery key every time you start (this PC has a lot of data on what should be confidential), but it's not ideal.

What is curious to me, is that the computer will start perfectly fine from a USB key, or produce a message of type "non system disk or disk error", if the USB key in question is not bootable. So it is not a matter of lack compatibility USB BIOS. When Bitlocker should read, yet there is no actifvity on the USB key. It seems to just try to read the empty floppy drive then give up.

The PC is an all-in-one RM with an Intel D915GX motherboard.

I tried two different USB, 64 megabytes cheapo player drives I usually use as a Bitlocker key and a 2 GB Cruzer Blade. I mucked with some of the BIOS settings but not in a particularly organized way. And I checked the key file is saved on the disk. Everything I did, Bitlocker will not always see the USB.

  • The request cannot be performed because of the I/o device error when opening a USB flash drive

Original title: USB Flash Drive issues

So, I tried to open my flash drive on my Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 8 today to make an assignment. But for some reason some it does not open. This is what appears when I try to open it. I've done many things that are supposed to solve the problem with the ports themselves, but nothing seems to work that makes me think that it is the actual flash player. I don't know what to do all that my University materials are there then I really need to work, or at least find a way to get at least most of my files. Thank you very much for the help in advance.

Sorry for the late reply Jose. I appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue.

This can occur because of one or more of the reasons below:
    1. the currently loaded USB driver has become corrupt or unstable.
    2. your PC requires an update for problems that could conflict with a key USB and Windows.
    3. Windows may miss other problems hardware or software updates.
    4. your USB controllers may have become unstable or corrupt.

Check the disc on another computer flash memory to ensure that the issue is not with the device.

You can try the methods below:
Method 1: Uninstall, then reconnect the USB flash drive:
This method solves the problems where the currently loaded USB driver has become corrupt or unstable.
    1. go in search for, type device manager in the search box
    2. click on Device Manager in the returned list.
    3. click on disk in the list of hardware drives
    4. right click on the USB with the question and click on uninstall.
    5. once the flash player is uninstalled, unplug it.
    6. wait 1 minute and then reconnect the USB flash drive. The driver should load automatically.
    7. look for the USB key in Windows Explorer

Method 2: Reinstall the USB controllers.
This method addresses the steps where the USB driver currently loaded became unstable or corrupted.
    1. click on start, type device manager in the start search box, and then click Device Manager.
    2. expand Bus USB controllers. Right click on a device, and then click on uninstall. Repeat for each device.
    3. Once complete, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.

I hope this helps to solve the issue. If you still have the same problem, get back to us.

  • HP Pavilion 17-f115dx: a USB Microphone works on a HP Pavilion 17?

Hi, I've learned that Microphones do not work on HP, as said to helmet catch. So, I wanted to buy a new blue snowball that is powered by USB. My question is that if it works, so I'm not wasting my money.

And please press, that it is for sale

    Hi there @andyfragz ,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome! It's a great site for information and questions.

    I have here a document that shows you the specifications appropriate for your HP Pavilion Notebook f115dx 17. If you look at the page you will notice under external Ports, you have;

    • 2 ports USB 3.0 superSpeed
    • 1 universal Serial Bus USB 2.0 Port.

It depends on the specifications of the Blue Snowball USB device. Make sure before you buy that it is compatible with the USB 3.0 Ports or the Ports USB 2.0 and make sure that there is a specific driver for your 64-bit Windows 8.1 available for the Blue Snowball USB device.

If they match specifications and there is a specific driver that is compatible with your operating system, it should work.

Re-post and let me know how it goes.

    Thank you

  • Fusion takes over my USB speakers and don't give them back!

I use VMware Fusion on OS X and Windows Vista.  I have a pair of Harmon Kardon Soundsticks connected via USB.  I have activated their merger via the menu "settings".  The merger is able to use them to read audio data.  So far so good.

However, when I left the audio for OS X by default Fusion to the internal speaker.  What more, when I go into Preferences system & gt; His, I don't see that the output listed in the tab Soundsticks Harmon more.  It is as if the Fusion 'hijacked' them and returns to OS X.

I tried to unplug the USB dongle and in plugging it back.  Does not work.  Tried to disconnect and rear connection.  Does not work.  The only thing that solved the problem is to reboot.  Of course, it is a pain.

Is this a known problem or there at - it a setting I can use to fix?

A USB device can be directly controlled only by an operating system at a time so if, when you say "when I leave Fusion...". "is stop Virtual Machine target, not suspended, in the guest before quiting OS merger or you're just quiting Fusion and allowing the virtual machine will not target?  If the latter you must eject the USB device in question since the icon remove the device safely in the Notification area of the taskbar, and then disconnect the virtual computer target USB device from the USB icon on the status bar of the Virtual Machine of the target or the Virtual Machine > menu USB before to stop or suspend the Virtual Machine and or quiting merger.
