USB power surge

I got an error message indicating the USB power surge/failure.

Since then, all 3 USB on my laptop is no longer works. If I plug an optical mouse into it the optical light doesn't even come on making me think it's a question of power.

In Device Manager, all the usbs show also operational (although when you select one and go to the power tab, it shows 0 under the power available.

I'm worried I have fried my motherboard, but everything else works fine.

any suggestions?

Hello

What you can do is to reset the usb hub. This will probably fix your problem and if it doesn't it is will also be useful in pointing to USB are damaged by the surge.

First try these steps to reset zero USB hub and let us know the result. Here are the steps:

USB controllers require that an IRQ be assigned. The IRQ line is assigned in the computer's BIOS, and usually IRQ 9 is assigned.

Remove and reinstall all USB controllers

To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
  1. Click the Hardware tab.
  1. Click the Device Manager button.
  1. Expand Bus USB controllers.
  1. Right-click every device under the Bus USB controllers node and then click on uninstall to remove them one at a time.
  2. Restart the computer and reinstall the USB controllers.
  1. Plug in the removable USB storage device and test to make sure that the problem is solved.

  • Satellite A100-998: continue Error Message «Power surge on USB hub»

    Hello world.

I am the new owner of a Satellite A100 laptop that has a little problem.

When the laptop goes into mode and the monitor shutsdown, energy saving when I turn on the computer again, I always get an error message will appear in the system tray. The message says: peripheral USB A "Power surge on Hub Port" exceeded the limits of its hub port power. To solve the problem, click this message.

First of all, I have 4 USB ports, but NONE of them are used. There's nothing attached to the laptop at all.
Secondly, when I click on the box, I get 5 unknown USB devices shown with the yellow question mark next to them in the list and 3 unused ports, which seem to be ok, with no yellow question mark.

Why is happening, with no device attached, or even installed on the laptop.

Your help to solve this problem will be more appreciated.

  • Satellite A30-414: power surge on hub port error

    Hi all

I have a Satellite A30-414 under XP Pro SP2. I had 2 USB ports: I plugged a siemens santis ADSL modem one and a sitecom USB hub 4 in the other. For months things have worked very well, but in the last few weeks I've been more frequently make this mistake of "power surge on hub port", which sometimes turns into a "a bad usb device worked" or "unknown usb device"...

At first, I thought it was the modem. Then I thought it was the hub. Then I saw that I was getting the same error when everything I had plugged in was this basic usb mouse. At that time I KNEW: this is yet another annoying bugs kindly provided by XP SP2.

All microsoft support had to suggest is to "use an AC adapter to power the USB device"... (Gee, why didn't think of this?) Too bad that my sitecom hub is designed to draw power from the USB port only).

Of course, one will mark the task bar so that the error is always hidden, but that does not eliminate the problem itself now, it?

Bottom line is... I'm tired of plugging and unplugging USB devices over and over again trying to make them work. Can someone pls drop some wisdom? I heard that people from the other producer for laptop has had a patch for this error...

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

If you want to avoid this error message you can do on this way:

    -Click START
    -Click on control PANEL
    -Double-click on the SYSTEM icon
    -Click on the HARDWARE tab
-Click the button MANAGER of DEVICES
-Click on the + sign next to USB Bus controllers to expand the selection.
-Right click and select PROPERTIES on the Intel® USB UNIVERSAL HOST CONTROLLER (not the USB root hub)
    -Click on the ADVANCED tab
-Check the box that says: don't tell me about USB errors

Of course, the USB device has exceeded the limits of its hub port power. USB devices may draw a maximum of 500 milliamps (mA) per connection. With the release of SP2, if a device tries to use more than that, a USB port balloon message appears to indicate this on the current condition. During the docking of the Tablet, a very brief on the current condition is sometimes detected by the operating system, and the warning message is displayed. As much as I know this message has no effect on the functionality of the USB port.

  • iPhone not charging when connected to the USB power adapter

Hello. I have a 5 s iPhone that I bought used a few months ago. It works very well.

Normally I charge it by connecting it to my Mac via a USB cable. Last night, I tried to recharge by connecting Apple USB power (also called a power outlet) adapter, which plugs into the wall, supplied with the phone. (Here's a link to the adapter if you are not sure what I'm talking about:.) When I connect the iPhone to the power adapter, I saw that the phone is charging - there was the small icon representing a lightning bolt near the battery of the iPhone.

However, when I woke up in the morning, the iPhone has been charged only 47%. I don't remember what the percentage was when I plugged into the power supply last night, but I don't think that the phone at that time was much less.

So I wonder: nobody knows what went wrong? Is there a way to make sure that the phone is loaded with the adapter?

    Thank you!

    M

If there is a symbol of bolt of lightning next to the battery icon, then the phone should be in charge.  If it is charging a single source, but not another, then the problem is with the unpaid source.  Try another adapter to confirm.

  • Equium P300-16 t - USB Power Port

My machine is less than 4 weeks old.

I recently bought a usb hub 2.0 4 generic ports for the system. When I plugged in (using the right side rear lane) I got my scanner and a USB connected. The scanner has not been turned on.

I found that if I tried to access computer or Windows Explorer they would hang with the 'not responding message '. After some bug I found that it was the hub 4 ports which was the problem because I could plug the memory stick into a port any and it worked fine.

I then plugged an old hub 4 ports (I had used with an old laptop and desktop) with the same features and it seemed to work although to be honest I've only tried in a port.

I contacted the seller and yes it was eBay and they suggested to try another port because it might be a power supply problem of the port and when I plugged on the left rear port that everything worked well, so thought it was.

This morning, I turned on and got an error that a usb device had failed and found it to be the hub. I then moved to the rear port of the right hand, that I had problems with initially and it works.

It would seem that the output power of the usb ports is fluctuating (know nothing about usb power levels) and just occasionally feeding the new hub (even if the led on the hub is turned on). Should I be concerned and can I do?

    Hello

AFAIK all USB 2.0 ports provides and support 500mA.
    It is a standard.

Some external USB devices require more power to work properly, and that's why the devices are equipped with external power supplies.
There are also devices that require more power just standard USB could provide, but devices with no external power supply.

In this case, it s a good idea to use a USB cable that can be connected to the 2 USB ports at the same time
My 2.5 USB HDD was delivered with this cable.

I remember that several USB hubs that also supports the external power supply and maybe you should try this hub

    P5N32 SLI
    Hi guys,.
I hope someone can throw me a BONE here, because I don't know which way to go with this.
Basically, power surge last night, my PC will now in a cycle of infinite when turned on reboot.
I can't start in safe mode, as it hangs on the list of files. Cannot start last well-known, cannot start from the CD, at the risk of going as far as "Checking hardware" and restart.
So, essentially I can't anything. I guess it's obvious that some hardware is fried, but I can't afford to replace things to chance - any suggestions on probable causes, or ways I can limit?
    Thank you
    KeV

    Hi KevTM,

    Method 1:

I suggest to disable automatic system error reboot and check the error message.

Prevents Windows from automatically restarting if an error of Windows to fail. Choose that this option only if Windows is stuck in a loop where Windows fails, attempts to restart, and fails again repeatedly.

To do this, follow the steps below.

To start Windows in safe mode, follow these steps:

    a. click on the electric start button
    b. to enter the Windows xp advanced startup option.
    c. when the computer starts up press and hold your "F8 key" who should bring up the "Menu Options advances of Windows". "»
    d. use your arrow to switch to "disable automatic system failure reboot" and press your enter key.

Here, you will need to check the error message or you receive an error code.

    Method 2:

Try to disconnect all the external devices connected to the computer except the mouse and keyboard and try to start the computer and check.
