Use of instant space for disc RDM

Dear all,

ESX Server can support data store VMDK, physical RDM & RDM compatibility.

Is the comparability of disk speed, physical RDM > RDM compatibility > VMDK Data Store?

RDM compatibility seems can take advantage of instant virtualization.

How the use of snap RDM compatibility spaces?

Thanks for any input.

Dennis Dai

Take a look on: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vmfs_rdm_perf.pdf

Physical RDM are a little faster, but you can not the snapshot on this subject.

Virtual RDM can create snap by creating a delta file in the folder of the virtual machine, if you need space in this point to have the instant copy growing up.

  • I bought a 128 GB SSD for my HP computer. Use of recovery on this disc?

My current HARD drive works fine, but I wanted the advantage of speed of installation of the operating system and programs on an SSD.  I tried using the recovery on the SSD disks and he got all the way to the final, but could not go beyond the part of copy of file - I let it run all night.  How can I use the recovery disks on this drive to upgrade?  It is 128 GB, which is plenty of space for the two partitions as well as data from full recovery.

    You are welcome.

The only way I know not if it is to find someone who has a Dell Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM reinstallation disk or a classic OEM installation disc.

Use to install the operating system.

When you go to activate (if you use a Dell disk), you will get an activation error and you get prompt to change the product key. When you do that, you can enter the product key on your PC and it should turn very well.

You can usually find these discs on eBay if you don't know someone with a Dell PC with the same OS as yours.

Except the cheapest one I see on eBay right now to buy now, it's this one.  $40.00.

You can bid on them if you want to wait for this process.

You may be better of buying an OEM installer with the key. ($100)  Use your license on your HP.

You will then have a license with the drive to another PC, if you need one of the one you bought.

Hi all, I use SyncToy 2.1 for syncing between two readers and I wonder if it is possible to synchronize three discs without causing confusion for SyncToy. In other words, I want to have a (portable) master and synchronize with a Home Office and a disc of office disc.

  • Is it possible - installation of a virtual machine with Server 2008 on a disc and use the other drive for storage

I have a Dell power edge server with 2 Configuration of disks 1 TB in raid 0

I can install a Win Server 2008 R2 and SQL 2008 R2 on a VD without problem, but I do not see the other disk of TB in option within Windows Server to be used as storage SQL only.

How can I get the two disks to appear in Windows server?

    what I want is:

First Dell 1 TB drive VD = Server 2008R2 and SQL on C:\

Second VD Dell 1 TB drive = D:\ like disk storage

do I have to configure the Dell VD another way or is it possible

    Thank you

You basically configure the virtual machine that you want on all the available storage (do not forget to keep free space, for example snapshots). -As I understand it - is so that ESXi does not see the storage! This is often caused by the RAID controllers not taken in charge or the RAID issues. Please check if the RAID controller is supported as well as the configuration. BTW. Why do you want to configure RAID0? If you want to create two virtual disks on warehouses of separate data anyway, simply present to ESXI as two separate disks/volumes.

I have Lightroom 4 purchased in disc download format. I'm considering buying a MacBook Pro, but it's not a CDRom. Can I use the serial code for download on MacBook via the internet? I've only used once disks for my iMac.

you need a serial number for mac lr.  the serial number for pc and mac are different.

Lightroom serial number is unique because it is cross-platform: works on PC and Mac.

    Same serial number for both.

  • Making the best use of space for the quality by balancing the video bitrate and audio settings?

I have a few questions about the first export still / encoding in encore. I am trying to create a dvd single layer, where I maximize overall quality using as much space as possible.  The video is 97 minutes, SD 720 x 480, 29.97 FPS and consists of interviews for the most part, as well as b-roll hd cameras and stills, rare title graphic card.

    1. I can use dynamic link to send the sequence that appears to maximize the space available, however I have heard that using DL is generally frowned upon and I myself cannot tell what settings it uses (for example vbr, 2 pass, etc.). Is my interpretation that DL is not the ideal way to go wrong? If DL is just as good as a separate output, is there a way to know what parameters it uses?

    2. I used a bitrate calculator and tried a Min: 3.5 target: 5.5 Max: 8 audio output PCM and I found myself having a little more than 400 MB of unused space. When someone recommended a Min: 5.5 target: 7 output Max 8.5 the file size is too large with a simple DVD layer. I read that it is recommended to use an exit instead of PCM, if the video is over an hour audio Dolby. My question is is it a best practice to balance needs of flow rates and audio and video? I realize, of course, by using more data PCM is 'better', but it is usually best to go on the road to dolby and have more space to increase your video bitrate? What is the audio difference type that requires a high-end system to discern? Y audio data loss is worth for the benefit of video bitrate higher?

I know it's a lot, just trying to maximize space to get the best possible performance. Thanks for any help/advice you can provide.

    -Nick

As most of my videos are closer to 2 hours usually, I always used Dolby Digital, PCM takes so much space and I prefer to use this space to increase video quality.

Note that by default, if you import a .wav (PCM) file into Encore, it transcode automatically that Dolby, unless you have changed specifically the default settings of transcoding in Encore.

A decent basis for coding rule is 560/minute = bitrate, so 560/97 = 5.77 and I usually just round off a little for menu overhead and margin of safety. This requires using Dolby to 192 k, so I would use 5.6 average bitrate.

  • Configuration of free filesystem disks for ASM? You can use free space for ASM

Is there a way to devote space for ASM to create a database under the DSO?

I was hoping I wouldn't have to reinstall the operating system Linux Enterprise 5 (Red Hat). So I uninstalled my environment RAC 2 nodes, installed required ASM RPM for Red Hat linux Enterprise 5 and then reinstall 11 g Clusterware and set "configure Automatic Storage Management (ASM).

    I missed something? Thank you

    Hello

I recommend you to visit http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/articles/wartak-rac-vm.html or http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/OracleDB11gR1RACInstallationOnLinuxUsingNFS.php

They are good examples to configure RAC

In your example: you will only use ASM for DATDISK and OFRDISK.

  • Use of space for a database...

    Hi Techies...

Can someone give me a script to get the size of database...
And also for a user (SCHEMA) in the database...?

    concerning
    Daffs

Many people have different definitions of the size of a database. Among the options

The size of the data files

    SELECT SUM(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
      FROM dba_data_files

The size of all the segments actually attributed to objects

    SELECT SUM(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
      FROM dba_segments

or the size of all data and temporary files

    SELECT SUM(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
      FROM (
        SELECT bytes FROM dba_data_files
        UNION ALL
        SELECT bytes FROM dba_temp_files
      )

You might also be interested in things like space for newspapers to restore archived redo logs, backups, etc., depending on why you ask the question.

Similarly, there are different definitions of the size of a layout depending on what you are after. The most common would be

    SELECT SUM(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
      FROM dba_segments
     WHERE owner = <>

You might want to go further and to subtract the space allocated to the objects but not used (i.e. blocks empty or empty for the most part) using the DBMS_SPACE package.

  • Better use of disk space on the server esxi (for data store)

I have a HP Proliant DL380G6 which currently has 2 146 GB hard drives in a Raid0 configuration.  We quickly realize that this is not enough space for all of the virtual machine, we have running.

Is there a way of 'clean' to add disks to this server - by this I want to say one where we don't have to add readers, and then reconfigure the raid5 raid card, and reinstall...

And on a related issue (even if it may seem irrelevant):

Some of our virtual machines are currently on a mounted NFS datastore that I want to spend in the local data store.  One of them has quite a few clichés that take up a lot of space.  What is the CORRECT way to migrate the virtual machine to the other local datastore, get rid of all snapshots (maintenance of the VM in its current state)?

Believe it or not. . Just select Remove all.

You are here is not a cliché. . It's your current state and not be deleted unless you select "go to" (note the different icon)

(even if I understand your concern)

If you are really nervous and wants to prove it to yourself, just test it on a virtual machine with no snapshots (create a snapshot, add a file, delete the snapshots and see if the files still exists)

  • Not enough space for music db

After I reformatted and loaded new firmware, I get a message ' ot enough space for music DB Please free 6 MB storage "when I select my player on my computor it says no disc. In disk manage ment is 0 space used gig s/b 8. Any help would be apprieciated.

Yes I do in MSC mode. In fact I did it in through the Windows Recovery mode: switch to orange, press record and start at the same time. I'm not aware of sansa.fmt I'll look into it. What worries me the most, is that I'm only seeing 16mg of storage on a 8gig machine, I am afraid I can have blown memory storage. I had all kinds of problems with this machine mainly MTP mode and message code 10 on machines running Vista sp1 and 11 units media center. So I tried to format it and that's how I got here. I tried all the suggestions for the problem of PSG in FAQ nothing helps. It worked fine on XP and Vista A pre - sp1 machine. I think something has changed with media center 11 and PSG maybe a new driver. I have the same problem with my wifes (PSG 10 code) sansa, except that I have not formatted so it always works. I think we can be directed to the ipod if I can't get this resolved.

  • How can I use image backup space if I run out of ordinary hard drive space?

I'm almost out of hard disk space, and I see in my computer I have 14.9 GB of backup image.  I want to use this space for music, how do I release it?

Please could you give more details

-If you mean backup to disk image, then follow Palcouk advice, please do not touch.
There are a few other things that you could do...
-You can move some files you don't need on a regular basis on a key USB etc.
    -Remove temporary files
-buy a 16 GB thumb (usb) inexpensive disc for you music etc.
  • Mp3 download too big for disc

MP3 download is audio, 1 week, says too big for the disk.  How / can get this on a disc.

    Using Windows Media Player

Want to burn an Audio CD

MP3 file size is 112 MB

    =======================================
No thanks for the info... no apparent problems there but you
did not include the duration... as mentioned HairyFool...
I suspect that the MP3 is the question.

Check the time on your CD limit compared to
the duration of your MP3 file.

    A thought more...

If your CD player is compatible with MP3
files... you could burn CDs of data that would be much
space for your 112MB file and several others until the
    the CD file size limit.

  • Using the media update for windows 7 (from vista), can I now re - install 7 via the clean install option, even if it is the path I have chosen when first installing 7 first?

With a 7 upgrade version (not the full version) I could not use the upgrade option to install 7 on Vista, because it asked me to uninstall 2 programs that would not work in 7 with installation before you begin.  I couldn't do it because my Windows Installer is missing on my computer. (In fact, I couldn't even run the Windows Upgrade Advisor before proceeding with the installation because this program must be installed on your computer before you can run) So, I chose to use the custom installation and it worked fine, except that my computer is now worse than with vista. Thinking that it was because he kept all the vista files (windows.old) I deleted this file, but he did that give back me my hard drive space. I would like to make a re-install using this same version upgrade disc, but I've heard that I can not do a clean install, if the original operating system is not currently on the computer (using the version upgrade 7, not the full version), and I guess that's is more on my computer with the exception of fragments which I affect 7 performance. If this is true, what should I do? If I have to go to the full version, is there a way I can just pay the difference between what I already bought and version complete, or will lose money that I spent on the upgrade version, and buy the full version outright? Bottom line is this:  I want to just Vista on my computer for GOOD!  I don't want something that looks even left of Vista on my computer. I'm sacrificing all my programs to do it with a clean install, but it's better than all the headaches, I got Vista! Thanks in advance for all you can give me advice.

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement. No previous required software installation, which means you can do a clean install with Windows 7 Upgrade disk.

How to do a clean install with upgrade disc:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • Partitioning hard drive, I want to spend 30/40 GB drive and the remaining space for the creation of other partitions.

I created a recovery disc for my system that I bought the new laptop.
It consist of 500 GB HARD drive, now the problem is the C - drive which is my WIN7 Home Basic installed occupies 400 GB of space and the D-drive has only 25 GB.
My problem is I want to partition the drive C so that the other player must occupy the space according to my condition.
But here its only gives me half the space to shrink.
I mean, when I opened diskmgmt to shrink, C this is 200 GB disk space allotted to me.
Medium I can use this space to create other partitions, but what I want is, I want to spend 30/40 GB C drive and the remaining space for the creation of other partitions.
    Help, please... Thnks...

That's what we tried to tell you. An OEM installation does not lend itself to change and having to clear guarantees for re-setup means that you must be quite certain that you have other reliable ways to re-setup.

If you want to dabble with Linux or dual boot, you should buy a complete commercial edition of Windows 7 that will give you more flexibility and accept that for drivers etc, you're on your own...
