Use of the high memory on Windows 7 without reason...

Hello, I had recently a few problems with my computer after going on vacation for a week and turn it off.  When I got home my computer has had some problems of high memory use, I have no idea why.  I looked in my processes tab and it shows that Svchost.exe as the highest [150K] usage, but is not a lot to slow down computers.  Nothing else under it attracts a lot of use, I tried to disable my anti-virus [Norton] and it still didn't work.  All my drivers are up to date.

Data sheet:

Dell Inspiron 560 [2009]
No upgrade graphics card

Pentium Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00 GHz 3 .00GHz
4.00 GB memory installed

Hi Daniel,

Please follow the methods:

Method 1:

You need perform a clean boot to prevent any third party conflicting application from interfering with your computer.

To put the computer in a clean boot State, you must follow the steps in the article mentioned below and check with the question.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: You must follow step 7 of the article mentioned above to recover your computer to a Normal startup after you complete all the steps.

Method 2:

Scan your computer by using the Microsoft Security Scanner by clicking Download now to check if there is no virus:

http://www.microsoftsafetyscanner.com/

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Method 3:

Optimize windows 7 for better performance:

TP://Windows.Microsoft.com/is-is/Windows7/optimize-Windows-7-for-better-performance HT

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

I hope this helps.

Vista is a memory hog. As you noted, you don't have enough RAM and he's never going to run smoothly with only 1 GB. Increase of at least 2 GB. You can also run the free process monitor utility to see what is eating your processor cycles.

    Hello

    vmstat-s

This will give a more detailed overview. Search for active/inactive values and used swap. If active memory is close to the total memory and you have a larger amount of used swap, then you might have the memory pressure.

If the Exchange is not used much, and you have the right percentage of inactive memory, then linux could easily swap memory without a performance problem. In this case, the pressure of memory is very likely.

For a report very detailed on the use of single process

  • Use of the high memory - system idle

    Hello world!

I have a problem of large memory with esxi 3.5 on my server to test at home.

I'm under a Core2Duo on an Intel 965 Board. Storage controller is an Adaptec 2910SA.

As the performance with 4 Windows VM (1 x Server Core as MS, 1 x Server 2003 WSUS Server, 2 x Server 2008 file server) was very poor, I doubled the memory of 4 GB to 8 GB. Unfortunately, the performance is still very poor and I wonder that the memory usage is to 5GB with no virtual machine performance.

I read a lot these days and tried a number of things as the allocation of resources system, but nothing has worked.

Should I do when the upgrade of memory? Maybe change a file of configuration or something like that?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware community forums.

You don't have to do anything about it either beyond adding memory in your machine, so no need to change additional settings.

I read your topic before and remember that it has been resolved with an update of the BIOS firmware, but I could be wrong and if so, I hope someone will correct me.

If you start a computer virtual is the memory usage goes up? The reason I ask is because I wonder if it's just an aesthetic matter.

  • Use of the high memory when multiple tabs are open (and closed)

When I open Firefox memory usage is around 70-100 MB RAM. When I work with Firefox I often open 15-20 tabs at once, then I close them and open others. Increaes of use up to 450-500 MB RAM memory. After the closing of tabs use decreases normally, but after some time. He begins to decrease very slowly and never returns to the level from the beginning. After a few hours Firefox uses about 400 MB of RAM, even if only one tab is open. First I thought it's because of my plugins (Firebug, Speed Dial, Adlock more) but I have checked and it is not. I reinstalled Firefox but the problem occurs as well. I don't know if this is normal. Could you help me, please?

Yes, you can do it. The minimum must be large enough to contain an image of the core. If the maximum is too small, you will get the unpleasant results.

What are the security risks by allowing a program to change the registry keys in Windows 7, without knowing what are the changes?

    Hello

If you had made any changes in the registry without taking the backup copy of the registry, then there could be chances that your computer can find themselves in no situation to start and finally end up in the reinstallation of the operating system; This is why it is recommended to take a backup changed in the register of representation.

Before editing a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy of the key or the subkey. You can save the backup copy to a location that you specify, for example, a folder on your hard drive or a removable storage device. If you make changes that you want to cancel, you can import the backup copy.

  • A lot of memory used after the repair Installation of Windows XP

I recently put a new motherboard in my computer and it took that I re - install Windows XP.  I managed to re - install Windows XP with my previous settings still intact, but I noticed that he had a lot of memory used (~ 20 GB) which has not been used before the installation of my new motherboard.  I checked all the files that I had in 'My Computer', and the total memory was not adding up to what was planned to be used.

During the Windows XP installation process, I chose the option to repair an existing Windows XP, in the hope that it would recover my previous settings.  I could continue until the activation of the installation part and had trouble with it; but was soon fixed.  I thought that if I continued to repair the existing Windows XP that it would remedy the activation part I had problems.  So all I can assume is that additional memory that has been used is from several times, I fixed my existing operating system due to the multiple copies of the same files that were used to repair.
I contemplated I should save my computer, delete the partition, reformat the hard drive and install a fresh Windows XP or find a way to delete the files that take up a lot of place and who fail to find.  With the first option, I'd still have these files 'Phantom' on my backup, which in turn would be always present when I restore my backup the freshly installed Windows XP.
I would like to know if I'm near a possible remedy to this situation, or y at - it another option I don't see who could solve this problem?

I want to delete Windows update history in order to increase the available memory.

First of all, please note that the term 'memory' is used to designate the
place where the computer contains the program and data with which it is working
for the time being. It's normally a memory (RAM), but who can
be extended with the page or swap hard disk file. The word
'memory' is never used to refer to the space on a drive (be it
It's a hard drive, floppy disk, CD, DVD or thumb drive). Space on a
hard drive is normally called "storage" or simply "disk space".

Call for 'memory' disk space is not so much wrong as we have just
unconventional. In a sense, the disk space is, of course, memory, but the
important thing to realize is that the word is never used in this way.
and if you do, you do so at the risk of confusion seriously your
    public.

So I guess that you may have about disk space, not memory. Do not
remove the previous updates, since doing so put you back in the
situation before the updates, with all the problems and risks to the security
    only updates corrected.

Also note that the amount of disk space, you may save is relatively
small. And if you are short on disk space, there are various things
You can do this will save disk space.  But the amount of disk
space will be only a few cents worth. If this amount is
It would be important to you, not more than one
Palliative and the only real solution to your problem is to buy
    a larger drive.

  • Exe Explorer file process uses all the computers memory RAM

I googled this question in many different ways and read the post until my eyes crossed. Tried several different

    ideas, checks, analyses, etc.

This is on a Dell inspirion 3847 running Windows 7 Pro Service pack 1

a Intel pentium CPU [email protected] Ghz, 4 GB RAM, 1 TB HD (no graphics card or any other card in pci slot)

a brother MFC7360 n printer connected to the USB port.

and the HD: (drive C O/S: 855 GB free of GB 909), (recovery E Drive: 17.5 GB free of 47 gb)

The extent of the installed software is minimal, (only notable is Office 10, digital meal)

(Digital software dining room is for the POS system), this computer is not the main computer that is running the POS system

This computer is just linked to the actual POS in bar. (I stop this program and does not affect the)

problem or situation that we were conducting.)

(I can give list if necessary other software that is installed).

And the essentially the only files on the computer (in addition to operating systems, programs, etc.) are Office, "Word files,

    Excel files.

And a few txt, rtf, pdf, files (very small amount).

first just noticed recently what happens, but I'm not the primary user on the computer. I checked

and it seems that no new software or program have been recently installed or changed.  I have a little

understanding of what the process Explorer exe is and it functions. (NOT a PRO, not a total newbie,)

If all goes well enough to find help, and not enough to totally screw up.)

I'll be watching this thread several times per day until solved if need more information, I'll give you...

Here are the details of the problem:

random computer freezes, or runs very slowly or get "out of memory" message (during the attempt

to open any random program) and when...

I opened the the Task Manager and in "processes" tab, it shows that there is:

2 examples of "Explorer"exe "running... it uses a small amount of RAM (approx. 10-15 mb)(with nothing)

Open, other than the Task Manager). Another example of "Explorer"exe "uses (starts on the same amount of)

RAM use, without having to open anything else) it will start using more and more RAM up to uses almost all

the available 4 gigabytes of RAM. Also during this process it uses randomly between 0 and 99% of the CPU.

The CPU usage seems to vary (couldn't see any stable model).  the amount of RAM used begins bass

then goes very high and the rest standing for this purpose during a random time. (then sometimes descends

on its own within 1-5 min.). (sometimes does not lower for awhile). More details needed let me

know, I'll check all speeds or time it takes for the situation to occur, (if necessary)

    TASK MANAGER:

I opened the location of two Explorer exe files (both take me C/Windows"... ». (same for both

not a system 32 file, or any other subfolder, just to 'Windows '.

The two exe process explore "Descriptions" are listed as Windows Explorer.

I have "Complete the process" towards the 2nd exe explore (one with high memory usage), just that process and she stops to

a short period of time (and all works well for the time), but even once, it reappears (no exact time frame on how long until)

Returns), (can check again and again, if necessary), to see if time is right each time to restart the process.

If I "End process" to the 1st exe explorer (one with normal memory usage), I lose my office. (which from what

I understand what needs to happen).

Also get the same results if the process of "End process Tree" for the 1st and 2nd explore exe.

Checking "properties" of two everything seems the same info. On the 'details' tab shows all of Microsoft, not

of course, what happens if an info is important. (any info where necessary, I get and publish as needed).

I know more and different information is no "resource monitor". but was not sure what would happen if, any info of

It has been necessary.  If necessary you will get what that is. (let me know this as necessary).

I've scanned any computer with 3 different anti virus (found nothing) programs

I ran spybot search & destroy found nothing that had to do with this issue and fix some other issues that we found.

A little info in 'Folder Options' (the 'windows folders in a separate process to launch' is NOT checked.

and all the options are defined for the default settings (I think) (not sure if this is important)

like I said read several messages in various forums (on similar sounding problem)... Some say spoke with

Microsoft technical support who say 'must be the virus', others say started after the recent "windows update" and others

say the problem of virtual memory and others say he's changed banks 'office' or the 'thumbnails previews.

These files, and the other says "shell extensions" are the problem. (many recommended (ShellEXView), to)

Disable all non-microsoft extensions). I was not looking for it.  My problem does not appear to be any good

program, type file running that is causing this. It seems to happen when the computer is idle (I realize there are always some)

process background or system running) but it doesn't have to be all open programs.

At this point, I am open to almost any idea or suggestion.  I will continue to monitor the post until resolved and will get a

In addition to the information required (less the credit card or account info bosses banking info HA!) (HA!)

But seriously some help, thoughts, ideas or directions to another post with response, would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why, my flag uses all the available memory?

I have a Pavilion p6726f that came with 8 MB of RAM.  I added an another 8MB and the computer SAYS I have 16MB installed, but said that only 7.24 MB is usable.  How can I get the computer to allow me to use the new memory, that I added?

    Hello

    Here's something to check.

Hold down the Windows key and press R.  In the run box, type msconfig and press ENTER.  In Windows System Configuration, click on the Startup tab, and then click the Advanced Options button.  If there is a check mark in the 'Maximum memory' box, check the box to delete, click OK, click on apply, then OK in the previous window, and then restart the PC so that the change is taken into account.

    Kind regards

  • Scchose.exe use of the high ram and RAM ghost.

I recently updated my 12GB to 16GB ram then I noticed Svchost .exe raised usuage (389 848 KB) RAM, the process is bound to Wlansvc UxSms, TrkWks, SysMain, PcaSvc, Netman, hidserv, AudioEndpointBuilder. All with PID 1480.

Also the use of the ram in the task manager must be wrong, since the use of the ram is not were close to 55% of total ram installed (8 GB).

The system seems clean so scanned by McAfee and Windows Security Essentials.

Well actually, after I done things as checked all disks and reinstalled the MacAfee and a few other drivers. Use you RAM has improved somewhat (30% off), since there is not much question now and running while trying to save the settings actually used resources more CPU and RAM I wanted (can not play LoL and slow navigation on IE). So I guess for now I'll put that aside until I have again RAM RAM (16 GB is maximum, you can get on a laptop I think).

However I discovered that when I hit F8 and try to repair windows. It will slide in to bluescreen says unmountable_boot_volume... I guess I'm going to have to look into that one.
