User access to virtual machines

I have a VMware ESXi hosting VMs used by different users.

Access life VMs users Remote Desktop.

I need to allow users to access the console in order to create snapshots and return to clichés, but I don't want them to change the VM settings or get new virtual machines: is there a directive to set up users with limited user rights?

Concerning

Marius

You have the right tool: VI Client 2.5.

If you have not a vCenter server connect to the ESX host, if you have a vCenter server connect to this one.

    Hello

    Not really...

For an environment hosted... If you can access the console of the host, you can always access the console of the virtual machine regardless of the State of the network outside of the console. VMware Workstation, Fusion and server all fall into this category.

For ESXi/ESX... you need a host outside to access the console of the virtual machine. ESX and ESXi not displayed graphics or VMs of their consoles and management devices. So, you need an external machine that can run the vSphere Client or access to the virtual machine via RDP, VNC according to Guest OS involved or SSH.

  • How to prevent limited users to create virtual machines?

    Hi all;

Is it possible to prevent standard users to create Virtual Machines in Microsoft Windows environment?

    Thank you

Here's the problem I see... as long as the user has the ability to run VMware Workstation, you can't stop creating a VM since everything it takes, it's a TextEditor and a live ISO Image and the other can create a configuration manually, .vmx file that it points to the ISO Image and then double click on the manually created configuration .vmx file and its place and running.  Of course not all users would go to the trouble to create the .vmx file manually but there are scripts on the Internet that do and users have other ways too.

If you don't have the appropriate infrastructure to control your users then monitor their activities and let them know him will be fired if they contravene the regulations.

  • How to access the virtual machines to different physical network?

    Hello

I'm new to ESXi, can someone tell me how can I access virtual machines on the physical network existing in case I use different IP classes? Physics of the network by using the class C IPs and I assigned IPs to virtual machines of class A? If it is possible, then, what are the steps?

In fact, I installed exchange 2010 VMs and also want to access the email accounts of physical network.

    Thank you.

    vmjunki wrote:

You mean there's no way in ESXi to configure the way so we can access the virtual machines to physical network? without third-party applications.

Because it is impossible for the various networks IP connect without a router, you must have such a device. There is really no difference in that in a pure virtual or physical environment.

You might think the ESXi host as a box with one or more servers (virtual) inside and one or more layer (virtual) two switches, just like a small server room. This means you will need to provide the same type of connectivity that you would have to a new server room with machines configured with addresses in a different IP network range.

  • How users share a virtual machine with the level of access under total control?

    Hello

In our Lab Manager environment, we have created workspaces and users can create and share virtual machines in these workspaces. The problem is the level of access only I can see when users share virtual machines is read-only. How can users share their machines with other users with the full control access level?

    Thank you.

It is a constraint of security designed to prevent the full control permission, being too easy accidentally to give everyone in a system.

The answer depends on whether you have PF3 or LM4.

Behavior of PF3: share to everyone in an org is read-only, while sharing a physical person should give you full read/write/control

LM4 behavior: share in all the world in an org, individuals selected in an org or anyone in a different workspace == read-only, while in the same workspace gives you the opportunity.

That said, total control: the ability to deploy/undeploy it or change the settings of the virtual machine, NOT if the specified user has write access the console.  The distinction is quite important.

Also, page followed, but he had the wrong information, there may be an arbitrary number of connections of the competing console to the same VM (oh, I'm sure that there is a limit, but I did not deliberately try to find).  It does give the impression that several people are faced with the same mouse and keyboard...

  • Password is now required to access the virtual machines

I ran Money 98 on my laptop working for the last 2 years (in fact since 1998 on other computers) and from 07/10/2014 when I try to open Money 98 Windows asks for a password. I have not configured this virtual machine, and I do not think that a password has been set up. I really need access to this program, 16 years of financial info desperately needed for the work. • Internet access for virtual machines in Lab Manager

    Hello

Our lab environment is configured separately from corporate network and only some public IPs are able to access the internet. How I would install machinery in the Director of the laboratory to access the internet?

For example, IP range - 64.x.x.x. Creation of a network model with these IP addresses attached to physical networks and external public would give me access to the internet?

    Stan,

You would have to create a physical network that is attached to a vSwitch or Distributed Switch that can connect to this network of 64.x.x.x.

If configure you a Pool of IP, Lab Manager can manage physical network IP assignments to the virtual machines.  so if the virtual machines require Internet access, then they will need to access this network (somehow).

    Kind regards

  • Comments operations are not allowed for anonymous users on this virtual machine

    Hello

After a lot of trying, I finally managed to connect to a virtual machine in VMware Server 2.0.2

However, I get the error "comments operations are not allowed for anonymous users on this virtual computer" when I try to run notepad.exe. I think that some permissions must be set. So I put comments and guests of user group to be able to administer the object (VM); but still this error comes.

Can someone help me pls with getting beyond this error.

    Thank you very much.

This has come up before on this Forum. Be default, Windows does not allow for remote log-ins for accounts without password, which prevents the VIX to perform log-ins comments in this situation.

You can follow the steps described in the following thread to enable remote log-ins for accounts without password or change the account to have a password.

  • How can I know what the user creates a virtual machine?

    vCenter 2.5 update 4.

All users of this connection are users active directory.

How can I find who created a virtual machine from scratch / deployed a VM from a template.

I.E. I'm visualize something like a right click on the virtual computer, then select properties and it shows you the creator / owner. A bit like the advanced windows file security tab, you can watch the owner.

It is not a good like that.

But the newspaper of VC, you can trace who create/deploy a virtual computer.

  • Cannot access Windows Virtual Machine in OSX! Help, please!

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get when I try to open my virtual machine and a screenshot of the error if I try to remove the snapshot through "settings".  I restored an older VM with Time Machine, now I get this error when you try to run the virtual machine.  I tried to uninstall, delete the virtual machine, shut down the computer, reinstall VMware Fusion (which already had my serial number filled in for me) and then back to the VM backed up by Time Machine.  No luck.  Now, instead of a few files missing I want to recover... I can't access my VM at all.  Not good, any help would be appreciated.

No doubt useful to add that I had the idea to uninstall from another thread of subject "fangs" tiled "Lost access to the merger after restoring from Time Machine" maybe it would work if I reinstalled and my serial number has not been filled

in?  Anyone know any more and more stuff inbetween closing

    Uninstall and install?

Well, that was good of you talk and after getting your data from the files just mounting hard copy create a new Virtual Machine from the hard base file and go from there.  Once you are satisfied, you have all of your data, you can get rid of the copy that you made on the external hard drive.  If you have any other questions just post and one of us will try to answer.

    Have a good.

  • VMware networking help - network bridge / to access the virtual machines form other pc

I have a computer 'server' that had 4 VM launched on it.

I need to connect to these virtual machines, all of which have their own IP addresses. I can ping the server or the host of a remote computer, but must be able to communicate with the virtual machines in the remote/client computerss.

Can anyone offer insight?  I tried to set up an automatic bypass at one of the virtual machines

    Any thoughts?

Sorry, I'm not sure I can follow you. In any case, what you're trying to do is to configure adaper network of the virtual machine as "Bridged" within the parameters of the virtual machine and then change network card settings in as guest OS:

IP address: 192.168.1.21 (where 21 must be an unused IP address currently)
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Def gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.1

  • To access the virtual machines of two different hosts

    Greetings,

I have a question that I can't find the answer to. I am setting up a virtual machine environment small and need to better understand the architecture behind it.

    2 host servers

    1 iSCSI Equallogic San (target)

I have installed 35i ESX and runnning on two physical hosts. .205 et.206

I created a data store on my SAN to host my 'model' VM.

De.205, I can see the data on the SAN network store and browse the virtual machine I (using VMConverter) moved there.

De.206, I can see the data store on the SAN, but when I sail, I do not see the same information. I see no. VM.

MY understanding is that using the SAN to store the virtual machine and that I would make the hosts of this data store to run the virtual machine. But the way in which it seems that I have the virtual machine configured on both hosts, always pointing the data store on the San but again using converter, copy de.205 vers.206.

What don't understand me or that I don't understand.

    Your help is appreciated.

Welcome to the VMware community forums.   If you have configured things Ok, you will be able to browse the data from these two hosts store and see the same content.  You can register the virtual computers on both hosts.  For an existing VM on the host from 1, you find the data on the host of the 2nd store, right-click on the VMX file and select Add to the inventory.  Have you thought to vcenter server?  It's going to do it is a lot easier.
