Using HP system recovery disks

I have replaced a failed hard drive on a HP Pavilion h8 - 1380t. I also ordered a set of HP recovery disks, which is a disk 4 labeled value, "System Recovery" as well as a 5th disk of "additional recovery." Only 1 of the 4 disc set is bootable. When I boot from this drive, an application called "Recovery Manager" starts with the three main categories and options. All options are grayed out and the only thing I can do is click on the 'x' and restart. No idea what I'm supposed to do here?

    There are different options to allow booting from the CD/DVD drive.

    One is the C key (you have to press several times) immediately after that the laptop has been powered.

    According toOberwald, it seems that fbw files are generated by HP, not Vista backup tool. I suggest you to read the following article to restore files from Microsoft.

    Contact the manufacturer of your laptop and ask them to send a set of recovery disks.

    I just bought a new computer laptop m7-1015dx of Pavilion and need to do system recovery discs... (which I realize restore laptop to factory default)... BTW, I have already created the system repair disc.

    However, I read an article on creating a system backup Image allowing you to recovery if lost EVERYTHING, all your installed programs, etc.

    First Question:

    Can someone tell me if I do the backup IMAGE of the system...

    Do I still need to create recovery disk (mfg default) system also?

    If I create system recovery disks can I still this Recovery Partition?

    I am really really wanting to partition my C:\ drive... it is huge

    In addition, I hate to see storage folders involved in system folders...

    Currently using a symbol/character to separate them.

    From now on, I can't partition the C:\drive all partitions are used as... Max is 4

    and I have 4... C:\drive, System Partition, Partition HPTools and recovery Partition.

    I'd certainly recovery disks because in the case of a hard drive failure, a recovery partition is unnecessary because it would be on the failed drive.

    Recovery disks will do the same as a recovery partition. Reinstall the operating system and programs supplied with your laptop.

    I have also copy off the coast of the C:\drive SWSetup folder and store it on a portable hard drive that contains all files Installer provided with your PC (except MS Office 2010 Starter).

    You can also make your own Windows 7 installation disc and have a nice bloatware without installing windows, and then install only the programs you want from the SWSetup folder.

    Here's how:

    If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

    Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

    Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

    I suggest that you download and install OpenOffice.  It is FREE and is open to all documents created in MS Office.  If it doesn't, at least it costs you nothing to try.

    I used OpenOffice for years.  Believe me when I say that he will do everything that will make MS Office and in some cases, the better.  At least, you will have to use in the future and you'll be amazed to see how they can do it for FREE.

    What I want is two partitions one with windows 7 and one with vista. This is the easiest part.

    Now, I was planning on moving over my larger files, which is a lot of music and a lot of digital photos on the windows partition 7. Then, I wanted to clean install vista using the system recovery feature built into the computer. Now, I see it says restore my computer to default settings, but it's a little vague.

    So my question is, even with 2 separate partitions would be a system recovery remove them both and combine them into 1, just like when I got to my computer? Or would it restore my vista partition just like it was when I got it? I've really messed with the recovery of the system too, so I don't know if there is an option to select a partition, or something, I don't want to go overboard and remove my pictures and music.

    And there are a lot of things, like 50 + GB combined, it would take a lot of time to save it online, but if that's what needs to be done, so be it.

    My son has a Satellite L300-1AQ equipped of vista. All of a sudden will load is more the laptop and automatic repair options fails too. There is a blue screen that appears, but only for a second when I try the repair option - then the laptop stops. We have no recovery disks.

    Also, I have a laptop Satellite L300D-13 s that works well and suppose I could get a drive recovery- but prob diff drivers etc.

    Can someone advise me how best to my sons laptop (Im not concerned about retrieving data as all saved already), but do not want to return to the factory settings including Vista. Do not know if using a laptop recovery disk is an option - instinctively is not as ever as simple as that.

    I can t imagine that the Satellite L300D recovery disc will work on Satellite L300. The hardware platform is different, because a single machine is equipped with Intel CPU and the other with AMD processor, so there's a big difference.
