  In order to obtain the performance counter for a managed entity, you must have following:

  1. get the managed object to the PerformanceManager object reference

  2 get the ProviderSummary object for this entity. It also helps determine if the current or summary statistics are supported.

  3. get performance metrics available for the entity. In a given time interval, the statistics will be available for these measures.

  4. the performance statistics for the entity desired metrics extracted from the step above queries

  5 examine the returned data object to get the statistics.

  Attached, is an example of Java, which takes the name of the virtual machine, run the steps above and print the available counters and their stats. You can take the help of this example and can improve to get statistics for all the virtual machines in your host application.

• vCenter 4.1 Performance in several locations

  We have a configuration of vcenter server in our data center with approximately 10 hosts connected to him.  We also have the server vcenter even care 4 additional guests of dev and laboratory located in our office about 100 miles from our data center.

  We noticed that our environment grows (currently about 300 virtual machines) which the vcenter client running really slowly.  We did some work on our MS SQL Server database, as advised on some of the forums to help improve performance, but he made little or no difference.  Really, the slowness occurs when you click a virtual machine and you while you wait for the properties of the virtual machine appears in the right hand of the screen in the Summary tab.

  I wonder if the slowness that we live is probably caused by dev and laboratory hosts in our office, because they will try to update the server vCenter with their information, as well as machines of main data center.  Could someone shine some light on what could be the cause and give advice on possible ways to improve things?

  My gut feeling is to go there and get a second vCenter configured in our office and then perhaps consider the modes associated with the data center to allow existing users to always connect as before.

  Hi all

  I need assistance in the collection of data from a counter entry. I have a flow sensor that creates an output up to 600 Hz. frequency I plugged on the entry of a counter on my DAQ hardware, and in Labview, I plugged the DAQ assistant to a curve of waveform in a while loop. When I run it, it runs until it is among the samples and then gives the error 200284 and then shows the frequency over time on the chart.

  However, I would like to see the frequency over time in real time on the chart, while it is running, and I would also like to run continuously until I hit the stop button. Can someone explain how this is done?

  Allard,

  you stop the acquisition in the loop. This is why buy you a single package (of 1000 samples) and finish the acquisition. After that, the loop runs immediately create 100% CPU load on a carrot and basically doing nothing except waiting for the stop button to be pressed.

  Learn more about the shift registers to store job and put the task to stop outside the loop. In the loop, modify the terminal to stop the loop itself to stop if the stop button has been pressed OR if an error in the acquisition took place.

  Your current implementation will wait 1000 samples and display in the chart. The next update will completely replace the old conspiracy. According to the speed, you will get this behavior (@600 Hz about once every 2 seconds). You can do the following:

  • Reduce the number of samples for example 100
  
  
  • Use a graphic instead of waveform graphic waveform (for 'history')

  or

  • Set up a ring buffer using a shift register to update a chart similar to a graphic waveform

  After watching several virtual machines on multiple ESX hosts, I noticed that the waiting CPU meter always hovers around 95-100%. Is this normal? I can't find many good resources about this counter.

• Performance memory Overhead counter provides data different memory Overhead summary (VIC)

  I posted the same question differently in the thread of execution, so I'm sorry to repeat myself, but I can't find an explanation in the docs.

  Looking at the values of memory performance counters, I get values such as '58.22 ".  Check that the performance of VIC tab returns the same information, so I don't know it is correct.

  Form summary at the VIC, there is a different , "Summary of memory overload" statistic, but it is usually around 120-140.  I would like to know what is the difference, and why two different (though probably related) data types, use the same label.  Ideally, it would be good to know how to convert one to the other.

  The overload memory under the Summary tab that you are referring to in VI Client is different from the Performance counter "overload".

  The overload memory under the Summary tab is the amount of resources of memory (in bytes) that will be used by the VM above its requirements of memory comments. This value is set if and only if the virtual machine is saved on a host that supports the functions of memory resource allocation. As off voltage mV, this is the minimum of overhead to power on the VM on the registered host.

  While the overload of the meter memory is the amount of memory overhead consumed by the virtual machine.

  Please select the meter memory to change the Chart Options tab performance to the value of the counter.

  Hey all - I need to count the number of unique of a column of dates dates. The complication is that I only need the unique dates associated with a particular person. Here is an example:

  

  In this example, Bob has 5 single dates associated with his name, Jane has 4, and Doug has 2. When the list is short, like this, I can count just straight up, but more often that otherwise, I have a list of 1000 + lines long, often with dates outside the range that I've specified, so I need a formula.

  You want to count the number of dates separate for which there is at least one record of Bob and to do the same type of count for each others. only single date on the table (and this is unique only in the context of column A in the table) are in line 2 and line 5. All other dates in the column occur at least twice.

  

  This table uses an index column that will contain the names to be counted. The highlight is not necessary; It's a Visual check that I used to match the number of Visual with that calculated in column G.

  Two formulas are used, one to create the index values in column D, the other to perform counts in column G.

  D2: = IF (COUNTIFS(A$1:A2,A2,C$1:C2,C2) = 1, C2"," ")

  COUNTIF uses two test-values, pairs of condition to determine the number of times where this date-name pair has been entered upward at this line in the table and include the line in the account only if the two conditions return TRUE

  • A$ 1: A2, A2: the date on the line (in the range $1 to "the line") is the same as the date in A2 ("this line of the column A")
  • C$ 1: C2, C2: the text on the line (in the range 1 $ CAN to 'this line') is the same as the text in C2 ("this line of column C")

  The County is passed back to IF.

  IF it is equal to 1, fits the text (name) on this "line" column D, where it can later be counted.

  IF the meter is not 1, IF inserts a null string in 'the line' from column D.

  The formula is filled down to the end of column D and generates the displayed list.

  G5: = COUNTIF (A"> =" & $ 2, A G, "< ="& G$ 3, D, "=" & F5)

  COUNTIF employs here three test-values, pairs of condition. Again, all this should return TRUE for a row to be included in the count.

  • A"> =" & G$ 2: the date in column A is as of the date in cell G2 "
  • A"< =" & G$ 3: the date in column A is on or before the date in the G3 cell "
  • D, '=' & F5: the text (name) in column D is the same as the text (name) to F5 ("this line of column F")

  The count is returned to the cell containing the formula.

  The formula is a city filled with the line containing the name in the list of names in column F.

  Can be found in the features list, is also noted on visible when COUNTIF = is entered into a cell on the table.

• Setting up the performance in performance monitor alerts

  I am currently using Windows Server 2008 R2 (this did not appear in the pull-down to attribute this to groups - sorry if I posted in the wrong place).  I'm manually configuring a user-defined data collector set.  I clicked on create manually radio button and following.  I clicked on next, and performance counter alert.  Create all of the new data collector, I clicked on the Add button.  I opened the .net CLR data counters category and clicked on SqlClient: Peak # connections grouped, then I clicked on the Add button.  The counter appeared in the right window.  When I click the OK button to return to the collector of the dialogue set dialog box added counter does not appear in the window of performance counters.  I made sure that I added the newspaper on a batch job policy administrators and groups of users of performance journal before I tried this.  I also tried several other counters - same problem. What I am doing wrong?

• Performance problem with the guest operating system

  Hello gurus - I have one of the most unusual questions, I ran into a few time.   Here it is:

  I have a guest w2008R2 OS - installed in a 5.1 version of VM 7 vSpherer - which has an Emulex LPe 12002-E 8 GB dual HBA port is assigned to the as 2 PCI (1 device per port) via DirectPath devices

  The guest operating system has an application that performs backup tests.   WWPN of the HBA is zoned in the fabric and declared in the interface of Compellent Storage Center and everything is good here. the application creates a replay of a volume, mount it as a drive, read all the blocks, then dismantles and moves then repeat the process with what ever additional volumes should be safeguarded.   It is so cool I have do this with a VM right and not a physical host?  (would be cool if I had work NPIV but that's another story, not with technology HBA vendor support...)

  So, what's the problem?   Well, the bed the mounted disk backup will work extremely slow as slow as 5MB\sec flow, then during any other activity takes place on the system the flow jumps up to 150MB\sec all of a sudden and will continue to run fast for a long time and finish jobs on time with each work taking a little more than an hour.  But when the slow going the same work (all jobs are the same, they are simply by reading all the blocks of a bunch of 200 GB volumes and wrote a set of NULL value, do not forget this is just test) takes up to 10 hours to complete.

  I think that what is the culprit?   POWER MANAGEMENT.

  I have just about each performance counter and the journal of events known to man and I don't see anything abnormal on the table, ESXi virtual machine, nothing.  But what I see in the newspapers is any kind of activity that could happen in a transparent manner to save energy.

  FACTS on this case:

  -Reservation of memory is defined (it must be for directpath otherwise, you can't power on the virtual machine)

  -Booking CPU - has not been defined before an hour ago, I gave her just a small reserve for this rule, so I do not know if this will help alleviate the slow flow, or have an effect on what I think is a question of power (unit linked) management

  -windows power management is set to high performance never-ever - but not until an hour there doesn't I changed advanced settings for USB Disabled------turned off.  PCI peripheral energy saving setting was already off.  Which is in contradiction with my theory.  But maybe, just maybe, something is broken somewhere, or could be a bug... blah blah blah

  -the HBA, Emulex, as it appears in Device Manager in the guest OS doesn't have a power management tab to disable the feature, I don't see that the adapter VMXNET3 had this tab, and I turn off the power save setting to be conservative, do not think that it was the culprit, but as there is no real data running through the NIC.  The data is simply to be read from the disk mounted, not copied on any wire Ethernet.  never the less, in the Emulex properties is a Details tab and a selection of power data, and performance data indicate you what power mode, the device is, as well as feeding supported systems.  D0: full power, but D3, which shows as supported by the device, is an energy saving mode.   I could not yet attend the setting at the time of slow activity, my good intention as soon as possible. He is currently shooting in D0, full power.

  This is so what I have to offer on this, I hope that its just...   If I'm missing something, or if others have experienced this massive loss of unknown flow without reason and have resolutions, please share.

  If there is a way for me to disable power on the Emulex HBA management inform you please, I don't mind if I stop to enter the firmware, if that was even possible.  But if possible I would disable it immediately before any new tests are executed.

  The root cause of this issue has never been identified by VMware support which for me is a question of ugly.  Reservation of CPU for the VM using directpath IO with HBA installed in it corrected the problem.  I'd be leary with direct path IO.

• Deployment national vCenter

  I have over 100 sites across the USA.  All have decent broadband connectivity to the HQ.  I'm relatively new to VMware, but have a long experience of IT.

  Someone decided to roll vCenter Appliances on each site or maybe just a little.  It sounds crazy.  vCenter is central admin, no?

  My thought is that we should have a vCenter full install in windows at Headquarters which handles the rest, maybe a better plan would be to run one to the East and West and bind.

  This project has not yet started, but I think that's going to start soon.

  We looked at the CPU and memory on a virtual computer by using the built in Windows resource as well as the performance of vCetner tab monitor and data do not seem to be compatible. This morning for example resource monitor showed 30 second outbreak of the CPU at 100% but if I do a CPU view of this time in vCenter for CPU performance area, it does not appear there. Is one accuarate more than the other?

  Performance in vCenter tables vary in collecting periods and rollups. I think that they breakdown as follows:

  Real time = 20 seconds

  = Every 5 minutes per day

  Each week = every 30 minutes

  Every month = every 120 minutes

  = Every year every 24 hours

  Looks like you might be getting caught up between rollups. It is better if you look at the performance troubleshooting guide and see if that helps you. This is a great doc and thus covers esxtop.

  I've heard Linux Vcenter unit, but I don't know where to download it and I searvhed on the page of the device but I can't. Can someone give me a link to download the device?

I am currently limited to only 8 GB of ram on my machine and running Esxi5, Win 2008 with Vcenter, Win 2003 AD and, hopefully, 5Win Xp machines virtual for purposes of study. It will be to move from a Win 2008 Vcenter based based Linux Vcenter offer any performance benefit because currently the use of memory on Win 2008 Vcenter is constantly over 90% and I allocated 2gig of ram?
