  Are your machines with a UEFI firmware? If so - bad luck because they don't are not supported (p.19 in the guide). The reason is not the firmware itself (Converter supports UEFI) but the bootloader. SLES using GRUB with BIOS machines but ELILO with computers UEFI and converter does not support ELILO.

  If this isn't the case, please attach the full bundle newspaper. GUI logs aren't useful.

  I don't think that it will make a difference, but for us, we do not install anything on the host to vCenter OS in addition to vCenter and VUM.  I have a virtual machine, I installed converter on and you use for all my stuff of conversion.

  Hello everyone this is my first post!

  I am currently running Ubuntu 8.10 (x86_64) and Converter 4.0 installation has been completed successfully. I'm running into a problem when running command "vmware-converter-client", I get the following error...

  exec: 206: / usr/lib/vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone/converter-gui: not found

  I searched the forum but I can't seem to find anything that refers to this specific error. I've seen other posts that do not include this error, but are usually accompanied by a missing library etc...

  I even tried to run the executable files in the directory/var/lib/vmware-vmware-vcenter-converter-standalone directly, but then, I get the following errors...

  bash:. / Converter-gui: no such file or directory

  The files are obviousely there!

  You're 64-bit Linux has support on the implementation of the binary 32 bits? All the binary converter are 32-bit

• Standalone Converter permissions

  I installed vCenter Converter Standalone 5.5 on a Windows 8.0 machine.  I am trying to create a virtual machine, for Player 5.0, a portable Windows 7 family (64-bit).  I entered the information of source and destination.  When the converter passes through the "Destination settings check" an error stating "insufficient to connect permissions to ' laptop\C$ '.»  The destination is C:\VM\vm1 on the laptop running converter.

  I tried to use several definitions for the destination but all return the same error.  The locations are:

  \\laptop\c$\VM\vm1

  \\laptop\C$\VM\vm1

  \\localhost\C$\VM\vm1

  \\localhost\c$\VM\vm1

  I tried to use the Browse button to select a location, but the result is an error telling me to use the UNC.

  The name of the computer is "laptop".

  The credentials are an account with admin rights.

  I searched on the discussion group did not find appropriate to this discussion.  The documentation for the converter does not have this problem. If I missed a community poster, please tell me, otherwise, anyone have any suggestions.

  Try this on the system Windows 8 (destination):

  1. Create a new directory C:\Win7VM and grant permissions of file system "Full" for the local group "Everyone"
  2. Share the directory by running: hand NET Win7VM = C:\Win7VM/grant: all, Full or use the graphical interface and ensure that everyone has the share permissions "Full".
  3. Try to map the share ------\Win7VM Win7 system
  4. Convert VM WIn7 with target location: ------\Win7VM and username: \keith. If the is not resolved by Win7 system using his IP address for the UNC location of the target entry.
  5. Remove sharing from the GUI or by running: net share/del Win7VM

• Standalone converter changes the letter of the system drive

  I have a Windows 2003 server that I am trying to convert a server has a guest VM using vCenter Converter Standalone.  The original drive letters for this server are where the F: drive is my system startup disk f: and g:.  I go to throughout the process, the aim said drive F: and G: but when it's done it gives me an error found no operating system.  I start the machine and choose the Windows Recovery mode and now see that the drive letters are replaced with c: and d: drives that is why it will not start. I tried to use diskpart to recovery mode, but it does not change these drive letters.  How to change or stay to F: and G: when you use vcenter converter?

  Two possible reasons for this problem...

  1. each pending restart

  2 conflict with the existing driver or version of VMware Converter

  Try the following...

  1 restart the computer and run the Setup again

  2, if there is already an existing version of converter installed, try uninstalling the VMware Converter, restart the machine and install VMware Converter 6.1.1

  10.0.0.64 is the source IP address of the physical machine. I have other physical servers on the network with the same configuration or similar, I have no problem with their conversion.

  Anyone know what is happening here? I checked the configuration of sshd source machine, everything looks ok Protocol 2 only.

  HM, looking more carefully at the newspaper these lines are strange:

  --> tar:. / var/log/memcached.log: invalid rare archives members

  --> tar:. / var/log/memcached.log: file changed as we read it

  I do not have this file in my RHEL5, but my guess is tar fails because of this. Other messages of tar are ignoring sockets unix which is not a problem. So, do you have idea what this file is, it is currently in use, can you stop the creative process or just restart with no logging at the moment of conversion?

• Standalone Converter not on the C drive

  This will be like a stupid question.  We always installed the converter on the C drive.  We have a server with very little free space on C.  So, we want to install on a data drive.  It will work, Yes?

  I don't see any problem, especially if the installation went well.  I have installed the converter on the machine in which we were conversion, works very well.
