  Is the same as VI 3.5.

  You need two DB, but also on the same SQL instance.

  So you can install on the same computer.

• VCenter Server Appliance 5.5 update w/o VUM

  I'm Manager my first vmware environment. We are a small company and using the Essentials package. I have two hosts upward with a vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 Build 2063318. I'm looking for a way to update the device for security patches. I have not been able to find how to do that when we don't have a Manager Update server configuration. I downloaded the .iso file but have not been able to find all the commands that will allow me to manually install the package. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  We had some communication problems this past weekend, and our team Windows have not upgraded vCenter 5.1 update 1 to 2 of the update. While my team upgraded from some of our guests GA 5.1 ESXI Update 2 to fix some bugs. The hosts are still in maintenance mode.

  We heard vCenter must always be a newer version than the hosts. Yet, the VMware compatibility matrix says may manage ESXi 5.1 5.1 vCenter update 1 update 2.

  We use the DRS, HA and 1 FT vm. We distributed switch and switches Standard.

  We will have problems? Which statement is accurate. vCenter must always be a newer version or the matrix?

  You can manage the host with vCenter 5.1 U1 U2 5.1 ESXi no impact on Production or the DRS HA nothing. Please find the screenshot for your reference

  If you have a 5.1U1 of cluster and then update vCenter for U2. When a new vmware-fdm vib settle on the esxi host? You have to put a U1 host in maint mode, only the back of the maint mode? You need to disable HA on the cluster, and then turn it back on and it puts the new vmware-fdm on all hosts?

  After once vCenter update/upgrade to level ended and Esxi hosts added back / left maintenance mode new agents HA is pushed to the ESXi host.

• Yellow triangle in vCenter Server after the complete update 4.1 2

  After the upgrade of my host ESXi 4.1 with full update 2 (via the Update Manager), I see a yellow warning by this host triangle in vCenter. Has tried to look in the logs and events, but found nothing suspicious.

  Take a look at the contents tab of the host with the yellow triangle.  Configuration problems is displayed at the top.

  It could be that syslog is not configured.  Update 2 checks for that while the previous version are not.

  If this is the case you can simply assign the syslog by default for ESXi location, go to the Configuration tab, under the software, select Advanced settings, down to syslog, the syslog.local.datastorepath enter [] / scratch/log/messages as shown below.

  Last month, I update all my ESX host with the latest patches for ESX from 28/04/2011 (ESX410-201104001) via the vCenter Update Manager, earlier this month, accidentally, I have some verification to be done in the server room and noticed a hard drive failure on one of my DELL R710 Rack servers, I you connected the VirtualCenter client and when I click on the tab 'Hardware status' (where the alarms about the) Configuration hardware server usually appear), I noticed that my storage sensors are missing, the network sensors as well! ?? I recall that on March I did have another server hard disk failure, but I saw an alarm (for predictive failure) on my vCenter and I call Dell to replace the drive back!

  I also noticed that now the number of my server sensors are between 73 and 88, before I remember although there were a couple hudred of them! ??

  After some research on the net, I did I frimware/BIOS upgrade of all hardware on the servers, as I install OMSA 6.5 and Dell management plug-in to vCenter and all seems to work just fine, but storage sensors and count sensor under the tab 'Hardware status' issue was not resolved. I think there is a problem with vcenter, because when I connect directly to the host through the vsphere client, in the "State of health" tab all the material appears correctly. I found subjects with similar problems, but they have been with HP servers and not answered or solved!

  Is there anyone with similar problem or no answer to my question?

  Confirmed.  Without patch ESX410-201104401-SG, my other R710 has a full complement of sensors.

  of your screenshot and the size of the VIM_VCDB, it seems you used the existing DB, but has decided to crush him, so start an instance empty vCenter.

  How the host ESX (i)?  Not the end of the world, even if you do not have a backup.  You can always recreate your infrastructure once again and then 'add host' inventory.  You will lose all historical data, but hosts and guests will not have been affected by the erasure of the DB

  We will be testing view 4.0, so I have to make sure I cover all bases; 1 update is required to see 4.0. I managed to update our servers ESX 4.0 3 to 4.0u1 using the Update Manager.  I also need to update our vCenter server too?  I don't see a way to update the server vCenter without the cd.  When I put in, I don't see any options to do an update. It looks like a clean install.  I stopped when I got to the part of the wizard prompted me to the instance of database because I don't want that screw up.

  To upgrade vCenter, just start the installation (from VC ISO or ZIP).

  Choose the existing DB and this will launch the upgrade procedure.

  Remember to update also VUM, converter and other plugins.

• Changing the IP address of the server running vCenter 2.5 U4 affects Update Manager Plugin

  I have vCenter 2.5 U4 installed on a test server.  I now want to move it into production and need to change the IP address of the server.  All is well except the Manager Plugin update does not work.  When I connect to vCenter it gives me the message: "request failed because of a logon failure.   When I connect to vCenter it gives me the message: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

  I looked in the logs and found that she always tries to connect with the old IP address of the server:

  "System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: a connection attempt failed because the connected party responded properly after a period of time, or an established connection failed because connected host has failed to 10.250.48.230:443.

  My question is where can I change here to access the new IP address that I put in the server.  I found the address in "vci - integrity.xml" and change it in there but it always wants to connect to the old address:

  Note: The change was 10.250.48.230 to 10.250.48.130.

  Is there also, I need to change?  Or do I need to UNINSTALL Manager Plugin update and then REINSTALL?

  I would try a repair installation, because I think it will prompt you to enter the appropriate IP information there.

• vCenter DB and DB Manager Update on SQL - use a user account to access the two DB or separate user accounts?

  Hi people,

  I built a laboratory to test ESX and I always wondered what the best practice when you want to access the SQL2005 DB vcenter and updating manage DB.  In the past, I always created separate user accounts to access their database.

  Any problems if I were to use one account for both of the DB.

  Looking for ideas on this.

  Role separation is advisable for many reasons. In this case, you can create a more flexible and more secure configuration using two accounts. Functionally, it work whatever it is, but if you need to separate the instances in the future you might some unwanted configuration dependencies.

  Anyone with experience in the present? Documentation says that it is not possible to install the update on a VCSA Manager but you can install the update on a Windows Machine Manager and point it at the VCSA.

  Anyone try? It works as recommended by VMware?

• Unable to connect to update ESXi host to vCenter

  So I have a client who does the following:

  Added several hosts, vCenter, went to install the updates using the Update Manager.  Host selected and selected re-mediation.  Server through the remediation proposals and restarted.  After server comes back online after the first reboot, it is impossible to connect to vCenter.

  Updated version: 5.5U3b ESXi

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I assume that your customer has forgotten to update the vCenter server before it has updated the hosts.

  You must have at least version 5.5 U3b on the vCenter to manage the hosts of these version.
