vCentre Server on a host ESX in HA...

Hi... I'm still beginner on this platfrm... wanted to know if vCentre Server 4 can be installated practically on a host ESX 4 or not... and if the same ESX host may be part of the band HA.

In this case, what happens if the HOST fails... will the vCentre also circulate and work normally at different of the box as the other guests or we might face problem...?

Thanks in advance for the answer...

Hi upg3,

In terms of HA - even if it is configured by VC - he is actally managed by the animators themselves (it is re-brand aam of legato...), so the guests themselves can manage failover - even in the case of a lost VC.

Take a look at your environment with cluster parameters. HA VM restarting priority.  You will need to take a look at your environment and train yourself that restart works to order for you, for example in my environment we also have physical DC and DNS, so it is not as important for them to come before VC.   If you have a VM SQL backend for VC - obviously happen before VC itself...  AV and Citrix etc - well, it's up to you!

While looking to HA - take a look at the affinity setting VM for your DNS and DCs VM servers if you think it is suitable...

If the VCVM is on the only shared storage remove the virtual machine from the old host and enter it on the new host by connecting the VI client to each host. TO register to browse the store of data and right click the .vmx file and click Save

If not on the shared storage (but I hope it is) you can copy the files from the virtual machine (*.vmdk and.) VMX file) from one host to another using the SCP. Then connect to the new host using the VI client and enter the VM VC

Cannot access the specified host. He either does not close, the server software does not respond, or there is a network problem.

    Hello

vCenter Server 2.5 is not compatible with vSphere 4.x host. I think that VMware announced document compatibility matrix (between hypervisor host ESX and vCenter Server or other components). Please see below URL:

  • Migrate the host ESX to vSphere 4.0 Server 4.1

    Hi all

I have 2 vSphere environments. A server vSphere 4.0, and 3 ESX 4.0 host. Another with vSphere 4.1 server with 3 hosts ESXi 4.1. I want to migrate ESX 4.0 mailboxes to the new server for vSphere 4.1. Assuming that I have licenses installed locally on the boxes, and I squared away vSphere licensing, what would be the best way to migrate the host?

I would simply ' right click-> delete ', then 'right click-> add a host' on the Server 4.1?

    Thanks in advance.

the best way to do so is in vCenter 1, right-click and disconnect the host and then delete host.  In vCenter2, "add host".  This will move the hosts and their guests to the new instance without interruption.

  • vCenter is virtual server - how to upgrade ESX host?

Our vCenter server is a virtual server.  I've been thinking how to run update manager on the host ESX, vCenter is sitting on.   The only thing I can think of is to use the VMware Converter stand alone app and move the vCenter server to another ESX host and then start vCenter / Manager Update on the new ESX host to update the original ESX host.

    Is there an easier way?

you have a shared storage?  If so, go to the host computer running the vCenter VM on, turned off, make a note of the data store that it is, remove the inventory, go to another host, browse the data store, find the vmx file, right-click "add to the inventory.

.. .or you can use VMware Converter to move the VM vCenter.  Another way would be to turn off the VM vCenter and do the upgrade using the CLI interface.

  • Presentation of ID host ESX host LUN to the VCB Proxy Server

I have a typical scenario where I have 3 ESX servers with 3 x 800 GB LUNS in a storage group separate on a CX 310 SAN box. The host LUN., of these 3 LUN Ids are 0, 1 and 2.

I have a specific host that starts from SAN, from the same box of CX 310 SAN. At this point of time, I have no choice to use this server as a Server Proxy VCB. As far as my knowledge goes, LUNS of the ESX servers must be made visible to VCB Proxy Server, as they are presented to the ESX servers.

My question here is, as the designated Proxy VCB server is booting from the SAN, he already has a host LUN 0 to Id the logic unit number this is the start of. The Id to host ONE of the first 800 GB LUN in the ESX Server storage group is also Host Id 0. Now, if I try to make the LUNS in storage group visible on the VCB Proxy Server ESX, is there not a shock of the VCB Proxy 0 host Id and Id host ESX Lun 0? I'm confused, I don't have a test envirinment where I could try this before I could actually go forward with any solution.

My intention is to perform a backup outside LAN of the VMDK.

Any help is that this respect is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    (1) Yes, you can have different host for VCB then for your ESX host LUN ID

    (2) Yes, you can use the identifiers of naa, it will automatically use the identifiers of naa, no need to configure anything at all.

  • How do connect you to VMware 3.5 by vCentre Server 4.0

This Server 4.0 vCentre works well with vSphere host. After lic set license server, it cannot connect to VMware 3.5 host.

    The error message is

No licece to perform this opearation

VCenter Server XXX license server does not include the vCenter to ESX agent.

Please update licese on the license server.

Serve the ICA which license server must be updated? The ICA on vCenter serve 2.5 is different with this one on vCenter 4.0 serve?

I know that vCenter that serve 4.0 cannot run on 32-bit systems.

    Thank you!

The ICA model for ESX 3.x and vSphere is different. There is no need server licenses for vSphere. But still, you can connect the host ESX 3.x the vCenter 4.0. .but you can't add ESX 4.0 hosts for the VirtualCenter 2.5 (which uses the master server)

Best option is to upgrade the ICA to be compatible to vSphere 4.0 with no additional cost. Contact VMware support... .they will guide you on the part of Lic

  • Time synchronization with host ESX to Windows start even if disabled in VMware Tools?

    Hello

just got in trouble with a freshly installed Windows XP SP3 VM do not apply Active Directory group policies. After some research, I discovered that this happened only with VMware Tools installed.

With VMware Tools installed, Windows events 1030 and 1097 were generated at each start (the events say that group policy processing has been abandoned and that there is a time difference between the server and the client) and group policies have been applied.

Without VMware tools, everything was fine.

After some additional debugging I discovered that the ESXi (4.1) server was not configured with a valid NTP server and the host time was 10 minutes behind. However, as time synchronization between the guest OS and the ESX host has been disabled in VMware tools, I couldn't imagine it was really the cause of the problem. But strangely it turned out that this was indeed the case! At every Windows startup time has been at the time of the host ESX - but only for a few seconds. This can be seen in the attached photo: initially, there are guest operating system time, and then you see the jump both ESX and then jump back to the guest operating system.

Why does this happen? Hard, I could solve the problem in the first place by configuring the NTP server on the host, I would like to know why VMware tools change the time of the guest OS, even if it is disabled!

    Thank you

When he put the VM must draw from somewhere and since the AI network time form more that probably not started it must draw from the host, but once the networking appears he died in the NTP source - that's why it is recommended to configure your ESXi (and ESX) to synchronize the time with NTP source.

  • Questions about connecting to a host ESX 3.5 to vCenter 4.1

I need to migrate 7 hosts 3.5.x ESX ESX 4.1. I did not have a test environment and will work with live on committed production systems (not clustered). vCenter 4.1 and two new 4.1 ESX hosts have been configured to handle live Vmotion (cluster will come later). I activated the license point server towards the old VirtualCenter 2.5 in the hope of being able to disconnect a host ESX 3.5 live the old virtualcenter and reconnect to the new vCenter 4.1 without rebooting the host ESX 3.5. VUM is not an option at the present time, so I intend to do a full install base upgrade.

    (1) I know that I can disconnect the ESX 3.5 server the old virtualcenter without problem. My first question is, if I try to join the new vCenter (config pointing to the old license server) box of 3.5 will be vCenter 4.1 need to install the new management agent in the box of 3.5 and therefore require the host restarts?

    (2) if the agent of 4.1 management is not installed on the host ESX 3.5, its virtual machines can be migrated (cold) to one of the new servers?

I should add that the licenses are not a problem, we are migrating to the latest keys but have sufficient old licenses to manage the transition. The VMs are on SAN LUNs that are visible to guests old and new.

Especially, I want to know what to expect through are exactly what will to restart is required and have not been able to locate that particular point.

    Thanks in advance.

When we went from 3.5 to vSphere, is that big of a deal.  Just disconnected the vCenter server host and updated the vCenter keeping the existing license server, and then re-attached to the new Victoria Cross.  It will establish links with the new 4.1 software, but it shouldn't require a reboot at all.  I did mine with all virtual machines out of it, but I think you can do all this live... Since a little while I did this upgrade

  • What happens if the vCentre server fails

We will have two hosts ESXi in a center of blade HP c7000 with a distributed vswitch

The vCenter software will install a separate physical machine with the stroed in the database on our SQL2005 server again a separate physical host.

A few questions on this configuration.

    1. what happens if the vCentre server loses the connection to the database server?

    2. what happens if the vCentre server loses the connection with the center of HP Blade?

    3. what happens if the vCentre loses the connection with the database server and the Server Blade HP?

The biggest concern we have is if all the foregoing happen our system will fall, not being able to accessed from the main network, and since it will be the host of our messaging platform I'm eager to get this right.

    Thank you

    Kimble

The configuration you describe will not let you take advantage of VMware HA because VMware HA will still work even if vCenter isn't up - so if the virtual hosting machine a vCenter runs in a HA cluster the VM resumes if the host it will run on fails.

  • Slow performance for virtualized hosts ESX VM

    Hello

I've been playing with ESX in VMware Server on a host XP computer. I edited under the guidance of the vmx ESX VM for. Today, however, I wonder if I could get a little more performance of the virtual machine created by the VM ESX. They run on a dell sc440 which has a xeon Dual-Core CPU and 4 GB of ram. Currently the ESX guest take about 40 seconds for good bios VM and run puppy linux iso takes about 8-9 minutes to reach the office. Since the movement of the mouse for office etc. is slow and laggy.

I do not expect cause high-speed performance, I realize I'm runnning a BONE with vmware server with a virtual machine inside a virtual machine, but if I can get a little more go out of it that would be usful to play with vmotion etc.

    Thanks in advance

I always used to install ESX in VMware workstation, server, but it's a problem of license you probably meet and have you run on the server version.

You have to activate these settings?

    Monitor.virtual_exec = "hardware".

    and

Monitor.virtual_mmu = "hardware" (if your CPU manages RVI/EPT) see: http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-9150

  • Host esx license problem substituting

    Hi all

I have a problem when I try to replace it by an esx host.

We have a total of 20 under license issued, 19 in use (9 esx host have 2 cpu, 1 esx host has 1 cpu).

To add a new host esx (I'll call esx11), I had to unplug and remove a host of VIC (I'll call esx01).

The result is that esx11 is "unlicensed" and if I make a 'survey of status' using license server tools (FYI License Server is installed on Virtual Center), it always reports as licensed hospitality that I disconnected (esx01).

    Any ideas?

    Thank you in advance.

    PIO Massaro

just because you disconnect will not remove the license.  You must go to the ESX host, under the configuration tab and the features under license.  Change your license source.
