VDI hardware options

Happy Holidays-

I started my company currently a view deployment and have standardized on zero clients such as endpoint devices.  My clients have a variety of big existing Dell customer ranging in age from nine to 8 years.  They asked why we cannot re-use their computers instead of buying new zero customers.  My understanding all about repurposing a thick client is you want to install Windows 7 on the existing hard drive, and then use the view client software to connect to the agent to connect.  Can someone comment on that?  Mainly looking for experiences of peoples using repurposed big customers.  Also, looking at how you would manage the devices as with the zero clients I know you can use a Teradici or Wyse product to manage.  Ask yourself how you would handle these big customers? Can you take out the hard drive and do some sort of boot pxe for the broker for connections?  Thanks for your advice/experiences?

Kind regards

Erik

Hi Erik,

We use zeros here, but we also examined existing recycling old workstations using the thin PC MS (essentially Windows 7 embedded) version. A couple of things we found:

License: unless you have a Windows with SA license on your existing desktops you will need licensed VDA use these workstations with a view. Good news, you get a thin 'free' PC license with each license of the VDA. Note that you must VDA licenses with zero clients too.

Performance: Saw no real with old workstations downside until we tried to run several FullHD watch and RTAV-, then we saw some slowdowns on older hardware, then make sure you understand your use case. (Fewer points for customers zero here - so far, no RTAV support at all.)

Interview: Still need to patch the thin parts, so for us, this was a major negative. The beauty of zeros is zero (Finally, almost zero) maintenance and the straightforward console done Teradici configuration/updates on the zeros. Gets you out the monthly patch chore to endpoints, but you still need to patch your main images and reinvigorate.

Compliance: The biggest draw for us with zero clients met (we are in financial services) and do not have any local storage was huge at the time of the audit. With the PC thin your users shouldn't be storing anything either locally, but hard drives are always there and always subject to verification.

I hope this helps.

  • Hardware options for synchronization

Wondering if someone could help to "classify" these approaches for synchronization.

-TCXO with shared references/PPS (i.e. - cable MIMO or OctoClock)

    -OCXO

    -OCXO with GPS

The 'standard' TCXO models require extra things (MIMO or OctoClock or external sources) to phase-locking and synchronize the time.

The OCXO allows precise... but we don't know how this has an effect on phase coherence (and how long a time).  Presumably, you would still need something like a PPS both synchronize?

With disciplined GPS devices, are you basically get consistency and synchronization time of phase since the GPS rather than external signal 'stuff '?  Or are there cases where you still need something like cable MIMO or OctoClock for more nail timing and synchronization?

    Hi Brandon,.

Thank you very much for the information! I leaned more in detail in this issue, and much of your question depends on your hardware configuration and system. JamesB, awesome post! This is great information.  Add to that, for our GPS USRPS (NI USRP 293 x) Unfortunately, you can not use the Ref entries in, this split on the external clock won't be an option on this material. In this context, option (c) will be probably the easiest because it is exactly how the work of our USRP. Do you use a USRP NOR? If Yes, and you try to sync up to 8 of these USRP together, GPS could be the only real option.

The extent of the direct wire vs precision GPS, direct wire is more accurate if you are using an external clock, which is more accurate than the clock on board and if you use a USRP which can use an external reference clock

The NI USRP 2930 and 2932 both of OCXO who only are more accurate, but there is no way to retrieve the source of 10 MHz to another device, with the exception of a MIMO cable which is not good to use for 2 devices. This is why the direct wiring method exists only for specific scenarios:

    1. the use of MIMO cable for up to 2 devices

    2. using an external clock, and a separator.

However, the internal OXCO does not you nothing good for the device plus two synchronization. With the help of a GPS antenna, clock discipline and a clear view of the sky will let each USRP use it of own OXCO and still be synchronized. It's not just GPS, it is using GPS information to adjust the already great time reference OCXO, which required each device to set its own clock. The following document shows the specifications for a USRP without a GPS antenna (just the precision OXCO) vs the OCXO accuracy in conjunction with the GPS disciplined in the section 4 (synchronization with GPS Disciplined oscillators on NI USRP 293 x):

While I was looking for it, I also found this post on the forum who has had a similar question:

  • Hardware options for IMAQ in LabVIEW

    Hi people of LabVIEW,.

I'm looking for some advice or inspiration for my current testbed with regard to material I should be looking to buy.

I'm using LabVIEW for controlling an HD webcam, shooting on the façade of a captive in its currently got and I coded to take and save your photos via a normal button.

The main problem is that the lack of quality of the webcam 2MP is not really enough for my post-processing based on MatLab. My ministerial camera (Panasonic DMC - TZ5) has no DirectShow, and so I can't use connected via USB in LabVIEW.

Anyone has any ideas on possible 'LabVIEW-compatible hardware'-j' is an SLR (Nikon or Canon), but I don't know if they are even compatible. On these forums to research it seems that some people have had problems with SLRs, I want to avoid!

Other options include ethernet and Firewire cameras. The only real constraint is a decent number of pixels and a good lens. Shooting through LabVIEW and the ability to control the camera to take pictures on captive command, or definition of a photo all seconds for 30 minutes is also required. I've got the complete LabVIEW suit, including Vision Add ons etc.

  • HP Pavilion HPE h8-1111: Wireless upgrade - hardware Options network adapter?

Hi, I am looking to change my Broadcom 802.11n WLAN adapt because of allegedly defective hardware.

I was thinking to buy the same as that but given that its in a port "minicards", I was wondering if something "more great, better and faster" could be used to allow a more efficient connection to my WIFI.

I don't know what might replace it, so my way of thinking of installing a new one of the same. It's cheap, it's easy, but if someone has any advice as to what could be better, I can use any kind of edge.

I suggest that you are looking for an USB 802.11ac wireless adapter.  It is dual band (2.4 & & 5G).  I do not use one at this stage, but they have used in the past with great success.  It's certainly easier to install.  You can check with the manufacturer to ensure that your router is compatible with it.  Whatever way you decide to go, I suggest you to AC.  It is much faster and the future.

  • Problem with the Flash Player and safely remove Hardware icon

I'm a casual pc user, so it's not very technical!

I bought a new computer from Dell Studio One desktop in July.  I use it once or twice a day in general.  When I use it, I usually insert a flash drive so that I can save my documents, etc.  I also use the safely remove hardware option before removing the flash.

Here's the problem: these days, the little 'remove hardware safely' remained in my taskbar with the green check mark on that.  When I click on it, it shows an option to safely remove drive F.  Until this problem, when I want to insert flash, Windows would label it drive F.  Now, all of a sudden, when I insert the flash, it becomes the G.  And I have this ghost f.

It's not a huge deal, I don't know, but I do not understand what has happened.  Furthermore, I use Vista, and when finally, I guessed my way, I found the Code 47 as the cause of the problem.  Of course, Code 47 indicates that I left something trendy, but obviously, I have not.

    Any help out there?

    Hello

I suggest check in disk for the driver letters which are present management and remove no matter what additional driver letter (e.g. f :/) and check if the problem is resolved.) Follow the steps mentioned in the article below.

  • What does mean 730-6370 fixed Hardware Configuration?

I saw in the packing list, costs more than $300. What is this for?

Place devices are only available in limited configurations 'fixed', unlike their other products. For example, some laptops can be ordered with a lot of different hardware options, so their configuration is not "fixed" as tablets.

The cost is only average Dell of appeal on price which is basically standard components, such as card system on the list/invoice.

  • All-in-one Photosmart HP 6525: HP Photosmart 6525 stopped properly print in black

Happy Friday! I had a problem the last two weeks with my printer. I usually use the printer on a daily basis for school. I got the impression during 1 1/2 to 2 years and have not had a problem until now.

Here is a list of what I've tried so far:

    • Aligned the printer
    • Clean print heads
    • Restored by default
    • Erased the vents on the ink cartridges
    • Clean the screens between the printer and the cartridge

I did all the steps that I could find for troubleshooting on the internet. Is there something else I can do?

    Hello @chawna,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you are not able to print black ink of your HP Photosmart 6525 e-all-in-one printer. Thank you for all the troubleshooting steps you have already finished before reaching out for support.

Unfortunately, at this stage, because you have already completed, troubleshooting steps listed here, the next step would be a hardware replacement as system within your camera HP Photosmart print head is defective. The print head is the part that the cartridges will fit. It controls the "reading" of the cartridges and put the ink on the page. If the print head is defective in your printer printing system is defective. On this model printer, printhead system is a non-replaceable element.

I highly recommend to go to the Technical Support queue by phone in order to explore the additional hardware options.

  • 160 GB external hard drive of Gigastore is not recognized correctly

Hi, hope someone can help me!

I bought a 160 GB external drive Gigastore hard today, but the plug inside, the computer did not recognize it. In fact, nothing happened. I tried all the usual as control to see if it was in my computer and then right click my computer, manage, etc computer management, but again, she did not show. I tested it on another pc and still does not work. I'll put up the wires correctly, so this isn't the issue.

When I turn on the power, the hard drive light constantly flashes blue. I would have thought that will be that the hard drive has been slowed down, that he would stay on continuously without blinking. Could someone let me know if this blinking determines that the disk does not just and it is indeed tired?

I tried to replace the SSD hard drive. Then the pc cannot start up. And I can't get into the bios or adjustment.

    Someone knows what's the problem?

    > I try to put the SSD into the DVD rom adapter. It can not been recognized in the bios.

This does not work with all models of laptops.
As far as I know that the laptop must support Slim Select Bay and the BIOS should also support this hardware option. But in your case, it doesn t.

One possible solution is the use of SOLID-STATE drive instead of the HARD disk.

You said that you are not able to access the BIOS after these updates.
Well, before you do this (a SSD drive connection) you should access the BIOS and must disable secure boot and must set the start mode MSC mode.

    The comments appreciated.

  • How to change the power supply to the CD/DVD drive so that it is disabled by default?

When running on battery I often use the icon 'Remove hardware safely' XP to 'unplug' the carpet * CD/DVD drive for Safe some battery life. (Does?) I use Fn + Tab to bring back to life. I wonder if there is a way to make my boot Notebook (M400) with the power supply to the reader off by default. Moreover, any idea where I can find the extra battery for the slot of the CD/DVD player and who the price?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello, Robert

If you see the start page, you will see that this support forum is not a type of support Toshiba directly but forum users. But you're not alone and many users expect that a Toshiba support team sit in the office and before writing the answers.

In any case, there are many users of Toshiba laptops with very good knowledge and also amateurs who are trying to help the other guys in different problems and also to share own experience.

Professionalism is not the forum but action when you need help because of physical damage or something similar. If you need assistance and competent answers each authorized partner must be able to provide the info you need. But please don t mixture and Toshiba service partner because it is not the same.

In any case, I found the info you can use additional (second battery expansion) and it takes batteries with PA3510U-1BAL, PA3510U-1BRL room numbers. I can't tell you how much it costs, but you will find only using Google.

Back to your first question: if I understand you just want to save more power and because of this, you want to sign out ODD. It's a nice idea, but you have clearly misunderstood something. "Safely Remove Hardware option is there to help the operating system and and say this material, a part will be removed and don t exist anymore, but it does not physically the disconnection of any other material."

If you need more power use a second battery and enjoy your life.

If you have any other questions you are welcome. A lot of users here M400 and I hope in the future that some of them will participate in a little more.

    Good day! :)
