vFoglight 6.5 & multiple instances of Virtual Center

Hi all

Can someone help me to get rid of a version of Virtual Center vFoglight 6.5?  We have two entries there are several virtual machines, data warehouses, etc...  We recently had to re - build vCenter and I think that's when it started.

Thank you.

I think this is covered by this solution, just be careful because you can not revive a deleted object.

Note that in the most recent versions of Foglight, data management is under management server | Servers | Data instead of Foglight management | Servers | Data management.

We will deploy a new 64-bit server to handle and for a number of internal reasons, we do a manual migration of the host instead of using the tools of datamigration.
Long & short are starting next week, we'll have a VC new management of our virtual environment, and I'm going to need to redirect vFoglight to look at the new Victoria Cross.
I've been poking through rteading through the docs and settings and have not yet find an obvious way to remove the old vFoglight point VC to the new Victoria Cross.

  • How adding script. VMX to store data (NFS) to the virtual Center

    Hi guys,.

I hope that someone much better understand the scripting languages I know a simple way to do this?

    Basically, here's the scenario...

We use data warehouses NFS running on Netapp file servers to accommodate all our virtual machines. Normally this works very well, but we had a few incidents recently with the spin that force us to move to our synchronous backups. Basically how it works is that each data store, say for example Datastore1 works normally on Filer1. This data store is regularly "synchronous" on Filer2. This snapmirror is a copy of the data store readonly. If we have a problem with Filer1, it is possible to reconfigure Filer2 to make writable snapmirror backup, effectively allowing us to see the virtual machine.

Currently, in this case, in order to get the back of the virtual machine, to remove all the vm to Virtual Center inventory, then add the synchronous data store to all guests in Virtual Center, then browse the data store and manually add back all the vm individually by the usual right-click right/add to the inventory on each virtual machine.

As I say we have recently had a problem and had to call it for the storages of 10 data housing almost 250 vm was therefore, as you can imagine quite a slow intensive task and work!

What I tried to work, that's how I could this power CLI script? I saw LuCD excellent research Add .vmx script and looks a lot like what I would like to but can't work out how to change it for my purposes.

What id' ideally like to go would be a script that I can specify an instance of Virtual Center, store data and Cluster as variables (say vcname$ = "ukvir0001", cluster$ = $ 'Datacentre1' and dsname = "datastore1") and then the script read the data store and add no matter what .vmx, it finds in the specified Cluster.

I read with interest the new feature in PowerCLI4 data store provider and which resembles something that can provide an easy way to do it I can't work out how!

Any help would be much appreciated as I have the daunting task of having to move back almost 250 vm to Filer1 now that give it has been fixed and do not have the luxury of a maintenance window several hours to do it manually!

    Thank you very much

    Sean.

After a few PMs between Sean and myself, we arrived with a working version.

Note that this latest version of the script has been tested in a vSphere against an ESXi v4 server environment.

  • Use of Virtual Center with SRM

I plan to our implementation of the SRM and understand I need 1 Center Virtual Server in each site. At this moment I have a unique virtual center server that manages both sites.

Am I right in thinking that I need to have only the hosts in a site connected to the virtual center server in the same site and the same thing on the other side?

Right now I am able to stop a virtual machine in a site and make a cold migration from one data center to another.  My understanding is that I'll lose this feature by going to a multiple configuration of virtual center. Is this correct?

    Thank you!

    Yes, it's okay...

A VC on the protected Site. A VC on the recovering Site.

As an ESX host may not be a member of two VCs, at the same time - you will be able cold - migrates both...

Exported to the OVF format and import using OVF are perhaps - an alternative...

  • Is a new virtual Center required for deployment of Horizon view 6 / licensing issues

    Hey all,.

Just curious to know if it is required or existing best practice to install a separate virtual Center for your environment from view of the Horizon, or if it is correct to attach it in your VC.

Also, reading that I've done, it seems that when you buy Horizon display 6 advances you get ESXi licenses as well?  Is it true.

When it comes to the Windows 7 license you ave h to buy anything for your VDI VMware or do you just an open license / SA with Microsoft for Windows 7/8

I think the projections and business decisions will do that for you.   Some circles have separate teams who manage desktop and server infrastructure.  In these scenarios, you can have a dedicated instance for VDI and the office team.     In other environments, you can be a small shop where a couple of technicians do everything.   In this environment, it can be allowed to have a single vCenter.     I still hate the TI depends on the answers, but in this case it really depends on your environment and how you want to manage.

2: based on the comparison on the site, all the editions come with vSphere and vCenter for desktop.    I read you right, but I would check with a specialist VMware licenses.

3: Just that you have the licenses required in view and vSphere VMware wants.  They do not all control over your Microsoft licenses.

  • Virtual Center for a given host list

OK, I'm sure that miss me something easy here so I'll throw out and see if someone can help.

I'm trying to do a report on my hosts that lists the number of processor sockets, carrots VMS, cluster parent and Center Virtual parent.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to find the virtual Center.

    I connect to multiple virtual centers like this connect-VIServer-Server Denver.myorg.com, Chicago.myorg.com, Savannah.myorg.com

    Greetings-

I see.  Looks like that the property on the VMHostImpl object (returned by Get-VMHost) was not always there.  I was checking against an environment that has the API vSphere 5.1.  I saw, as you have said, that these other properties were not present during the test against an API v5.0 environment.

So, Yes, as you said - the '. '. Client.ServiceUrl"property of the View object for the host has a string that can be used to infer the vCenter server name.  And, you can still access this property of the VMHostImpl object via the. ExtensionData property.  Something like:

    Get-VMHost | select Name,    @{n="vCenter"; e={($_.ExtensionData.Client.ServiceUrl -replace "http[s]?://", "").Split("/")[0]}}

  • Installation of multiple instances of Essbase on a single machine

    Dear gurus,

I did the install vanilla of the costume of Hyperion (11.1.2.2) products on my machine (windows 2008 SP1, its a Virtual Machine) virtual machine (I installed Foundation, EAS and just Essbase)

My first Essbase instance is running on default port 1423and I tried to configure the second instance of Essbase using port 1424 and all the donfiguration succeeded. I can see the 2nd service of essbase running at services.msc

I followed the steps mentioned in the:

My 2nd instance is installed to: D:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\epmsystem2

Now the problem is that I can add and connect 1st instance of Essbase (SERVERNAME:1423) using the administrator account in the environmental assessment.

but when I try to add 2nd Instance of Essbase as SERVERNAME:1424 using the administrator account, it throws the following error:

Can you please guide me what to do to access this 2nd Forum.

    (1) do I need to have a separate ADMIN user creation for this 2nd instance essbase? If Yes, then HOW?

    (2) I can just copy the essbase.sec of 1st instance of 2nd instance?

Can you please point me to a reference to have multiple independent instances of Essbase on the same machine?

I sincerely thank you for your time to this request.

    Best regards,

    Amit

Do not copy the file s multiple instances.

It seems that the 2nd day of the Essbase instance has not registered properly with Shared Services, you can try renaming the essbase.sec on the 2nd instance, erase the Essbase.log, resume Essbase, then check the Essbase.log to see if there are errors anyt'ing.

    See you soon

  • Workstation 7 on Win7, multiple instances of the taskbar

When you run VMWare Workstation 7 on Windows 7, VMWare offers systematically there are multiple instances running.  1 for the application itself and 1 for each tab open in the application, regardless of its status running.  It's very confusing when I usually 5-6 tabs open, but only 1 of them is actually being run.  I know there is an icon on the top of each preview indicating if it is suspended or running, but a quick glance, it is difficult to find a case running.

Is it possible to have only 1 instance of taskbar or display only the virtual machines running in the taskbar, instead of each of them?

There is no configuration parameter to control the Aero thumbnails, but we had other requests specifically question that makes it more obvious that VMs are suspended and who are running (since they both show a screenshot and are differentiated only by the icon). It is being investigated for a future version of Workstation.

  • VMWare Virtual Center 2.5 update 3 management ESX v3.5 Update 4 and 5 guests

I'm doing an audit of versions of VMWare and it seems that our cluster hosts are running a later update version as the virtual center server. Virtual Center 2.5 update 3 management ESX v3.5 Update 4 and 5 guests.

Does anyone know if this causes problems. This has been the case since before I started and there seems to be no negative effect I see.

Don't want to update virtual center update 5 as we plan to upgrade to vSphere, shortly.

you are in a supported configuration, so you should be fine

    http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.PDF

However, with more agents on new hosts, you can see some are disconnects/no response errors for your hosts in vCenter.  In general, I would like to have my instance of vCenter to or superior to the latest version of ESX.

  • VIrtual Center unavailable - effects on Virtual Machines?

We have a virtual Center 2.5 server that is installed on a virtual machine on one of our ESX servers. This virtual Center Server is down for maintenance patch (only windows security updates)

I would like to know the effects it would have on the other virtual machines in the same cluster managed by this virtual server Center. I expect to continue to run and be able to communicate with them via the VI Client on the ESX Server.

I know that the following implications are valid: (obviously I won't be able to manage virtual machines through VC during shutdown)

    (1) there will be no (vmotion) failover during shutdown

    (2) there will be no HA or DRS during shutdown

    (3) there will be no statement during the blackout

    (4) while the configuration changes will not be saved in the database of VIrtual Center.

Are there other effects on the virtual machine that I should be aware of?

    NIC,

    (1) there will be no (vmotion) failover during shutdown

HA does not vMootion, it starts a new instance of the VM (it's a recovery, not a migration)

    (2) there will be no HA or DRS during shutdown

The VC is only necessary to configure HA - aam service is installed don as the hosts and guests continues to monitor each other etc, even if the VC disappears.

In addition, you might even get the Victoria Cross to recover on another host, using HA.

    (3) there will be no statement during the blackout

Guests continue to generate newspapers, but of course, no specific newspaper VC will be generated as the VC is not running.

    (4) while the configuration changes will not be saved in the database of VIrtual Center.

Config changes on hosts will be updated as soon as the VC connects to the host

Are there other effects on the virtual machine that I should be aware of?

You will lose only functions that REQUIRE VC - IE of vMotion etc.

The mdf for my virtual Center vsphere4 db file sql 2005 is corrupted and can not be recovered. What is the best way to get back online? Any help would be great. I still have the FLA...

the .ldf will contain the log files. If you have a corupt file, then you would be better to just create a new instance of the DB, change your ODBC settings and do a reinstall of the vCenter

.. If you have a backup somewhere, you can restore, which will save you some difficulties in the reconstruction of your instance of vCenter together.

  • Creating multiple instances of a custom taskflow: how?

I use JDEV 11.1.1.5.0 and we use WebCenter PS4.

Our previous developer created a calendar countdown / count down timer. When I try to create a copy of it from within Web Center Mashup > task flow page I have a few problems:

    1. If I change the settings of task flow, such as the title or the time format (minutes, hours, or days are the options) - these changes do not appear on the page itself. He always uses the same values as the original task flow that I copied from.

    2. I've noticed that in the Page Fragment and the definition of the taskFlowId Page points to "/ WEB-INF/ScheduleWidget #ScheduleWidget. Id = "' is the same for each completed copy of the original workflow."

What I would do, is to have the ability to create multiple instances of this workflow even at the breast of a single space, but right now they are the only things that stop to occur.

    Hello

JavaScript does not have workflows and so is not isolate the invocations to son. Bottom line is that your use of JS must be improved.

Actually what you are calling a single JavaScript function, which will exist only as a single instance on the page. What you need to do is rather than for each call JS workflow, you must create a separate JS object that is then used with this workflow. Ultimately you would have as many instances created JS object as task on one page (at the moment you don't have that, and instead, you use a single variable). As I see it, what you have to do is

-for starting workflows, call JS in Java (or a region controller)
    1. create a new object ' cdtime ($(this) new.attr("id"), ' ${pageFlowScope.counterDate} ");
    2. register the object in a variable of page with a key identifying the workflow as it is used with/for the
-Workflow then use you the client listener to access the timer for this workflow. For example, you can pass an argument to the JS function so that he knows which instance of timer for your registry level JS page object (probably a map)
