Video of Precision 390

I have a dell 390 with Core2quad q6600, 2 GB of ram, 500 gb hdd and 375w psu with 1 6-pin. I wanted to ask if any of these 5770, 550ti, 4870 will work with this food or that I need to change? If yes then a standard atx PSU agree?

The HD 5770 and especially the HD 4870 are old maps.  Go with the GTX 550 it.  It will be fine with the power supply.

The old HD 4870 was a power hungry cards so I would never use it.  The HD 5770 has become the HD 6770 and is always available.  GTX 550 it's still going to be the best of these 3 choices.  However, the new GTX 650 it is even better if you want to increase the performance and use less energy.  Compare prices. Another alternative would be 7770 HD which is better than the 3 you mentioned but not as good as the GTX 650 Ti.

  • Adaptec AHA-2940UW card prevents POST and boot 400SC, Precision 390 and Power Edge

I have two systems: Precision 390 and Power Edge 400SC

When an Adaptec 2940UW adapter is installed in a machine, they will not start.  Power lights, but there is no video output, the system just hangs.  In the case of the 390, the fan slowly ramps up to its maximum speed.

I know the SCSI drive and the cable is good and well done.  I tried different machines slot, disabled the startup of the IDE/SATA drives, disable the option "fast boot".  The results are always the same - both computers refuse to do the BIOS POST when the adapter is installed.

My first is that the adapter is bad, but the eBay seller insists he test it and it worked.

Anyone have an experience to install a SCSI card in a Dell computer with integrated IDE/SATA controller?

    The 2940UW is a 5v PCI 2.0 card.

You can use only the 2 cards of keyway UNIVERSAL PCI 2.2 or 2.3 which are 3.3V to the Pentium 4 and systems.  Mounting in the slot is NOT compatibility.  All slots MODERN 64-BIT PCI - X are also 3.3V only.

If you need this card, you will need to use a 2940U2W which has 2 SLOTS, which means that its 3.3V OR 5V UNIVERSAL

UEFI WINDOWS 8 systems will prevent this loading card or be seen in secure boot mode.  64-BIT VERSIONS of windows must also be certified by Microsoft WHQL drivers or that they will not load.

  • Dell Precision 390, processors who work for an upgrade?

We have two Dell Precision 390. One with the Conroe E6300 and one with the Pentium 4 631, variety of Cedar Mill.

We want to upgrade the P4 to something better.

We have a lying here Q6600 processor, and an old Pentium D 830 dual core CPU, but it's be better performer than one heart P4.

Are the same motherboards in these two 390 s? I think that our E6300 could be improved to a Q6600, but the 390 with the P4, I'm not sure. They are all two socket 775. We already have the necessary correct heatpipe radiator for more hot processors.

    Thank you

I got the info from Dell today. There are two motherboards used in the 390. We support the line Cedar Mill and Conroe CPU. The other motherboard for 390 supports the Q6600, QX6700 and QX6800.

  • Dell Precision 390 and Windows 7 64 bit driver support

We have a Dell Precision 390 and want to pass this to a Windows 7 64-bit operating system.  Several months ago, I noticed driver support for Windows 7 64-bit for the Dell Precision 390 model but pilot at the moment the site and downloads not support all these drivers for Windows 7.  It seems that the support has been removed.  At best, it supports only Windows Vista 64-bit.  Can someone explain why there is no support driver for Dell Precision 390 for the 64-bit Windows 7 platform?

    Tony

I have a Dell Precision 390 and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 - bit loaded just fine and it is running.

It is strongly suggested that you do a clean install.

So I wiped my HD (after backing up personal files). Don't come to format your drive, I mean totally wipe it.

Automatic updates will install the drivers you need for any connected device or visit the manufacturers for your drivers.

So in short, "Don't sweat it".

Go ahead and download this puppy goes for a few years.

  • Replacement of disks on Precision 390 - size limit?

Hello everyone, I have a Precision 390 with a pair of Sata drives of 160 GB installed in a Raid1 configuration for data redundancy.

I would like to install a larger capacity replacement discs.

My question is, is there a limit to the size of HDs can be installed for the RAID configuration and also will be SATA3 readers work ok even if the controller is to spec sooner? (i.e. readers default to a mode inherited from SATA1 or SATA2?)

I hope that someone has the answers for this.

    Thank you very much

    Chris.

    Hi Chris,

Up to 2 TB hard drives will work without problem. 3 SATA disks should work, but my experience has shown that the "backward compatibility" is not always as compatible as it sounds. Yes, default readers to some SATA mode to your system. Honestly, however, it has no real performance difference for disks rotational between SATA 1, 2 or 3.

  • Dell Precision 390 doesn't start with Bios pin in Place

I recently acquired my nieces computer Dell Precision 390 and was trying to upgrade to Windows 7. When I opened upward, I noticed that the pin of the Bios was only placed on one of the pins instead of two of them as shown in the maintenance manual.

After the replacement of the Bios pin on the appropriate setting, the computer will not start and has no effect when you press the Start button.

I replaced the pin of the Bios to the place where I found it originally, and the end started computer. What gives here? Why didn't he start if I place the PIN Bios exactly where it is supposed to be?

Does anyone have answers or suggestions? Thank you!

    His work EXACTLY as designed.

    Clear CMOS/NVRAM memory; 390

    By rider:

The computer must be disconnected from the power outlet to clear the CMOS setting.

Remove the cover from the computer.
Locate the RTCRST jumper on the system board.
Remove the CAP from the single-axis and onto the two pins and wait 3-5 seconds.
Replace the cap on the single PIN.
    Replace the computer cover.
Plug the computer and peripherals to their electrical outlets and turn them on.

  • New drive Seagate work Precision 390?

I currently have the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (ST380815AS 80 GB) hard drive.

    I want to add a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 (ST31000340AS 1 TB).

Will be the range 7200.11 disks work because they offer only the option of the SATA 3 Gb/s NCQ interface?

In addition, I can't go up to 1 TB or am I limited in the size of the disk? FYI, I have BIOS for the Precision Workstation 390 v2.3.0, the existing drive is controlled by "AHCI BIOS".

  • Card PCI-6259 is compatible with the Dell Precision 390?

    Hi all

I need help in answering this question.  I want to buy a better computer for my data PCI-6259 acquisition card.  I tried to search to see if the card is compatible with the PC and there's previous numbers with this set-up before other users.  Do you have a link to the list of the DAQ cards with tested PC configurations?  I want to just make sure that when I buy the computer, everything will work without problem because I only have one shot at this.

    Thanks to all in advance.

    Kind regards

    justdomechanicalengineering

    Hello

We do not have a link to specific DAQ board/PC pairings, but the specifications for the Dell Precision 360 indicate that she has three ports PCI 5V which must be compatible with your PCI-6259.

  • Video commentary of XPS-13 (9343)

I used my new XPS13 for a few days (version i3) and the graphics look unusually rough against my Precision 390 about 10 years. Are the new laptop graphics really not to my old desktop graphics card performance (FireGL V3400, I think) - or have I missed something? I really don't think that the speed of the video is much better than my old Asus netbook...

What is a Windows thing? A graphics card thing?

Precision 390 XP with 4 GB of RAM

    XPS-13 Win 8.1 running

In general, I'm happy with the new computer (it's a beautiful thing) - but am I asking too much to be able to watch Youtube videos?  I can live with some slow... but the videos are virtually unwatchable. I had more accidents today in Firefox than in my previous life.

    Steve

I does not solve the problem. The problem (for me at least) was the computer is limited to approximately 0.6 GHz speed from the factory to run at 2.2 (I have an i3). If you do some research, there is a thread on this forum that talks about this problem.

This seems not to be intentional Dell, since they have released an update of the bios that solves the problem.

Your solution (if this is indeed the problem) is either:

    1. update your Bios to A03 (search on Dell.com this) - which corrects this problem. The A03 update updated my computer with A01, A02, as well...

    .... Or...

    2. to set manually is easy. Go Power Options | Advanced options for the power management that you use and then scroll to "Intel platform thermal and dynamic framework parameters. Open it and then open "Config TDP level" and you will see 2 options (at least on the i3 without Bios Update)... one for 0.6 GHz and 2.2 GHz. If the 0.6 GHz option is selected change to option 2.2 - and your problem is solved! This is what works for a model i3... I can't speak for i5s or i7s.

    I hope this helps...

  • XP start screen flashes then restarts the computer (usually start in any mode, restarts just instantly)

    Hello

My xp computer has stopped working completely for some unknown reason. Last Friday I took my girls login Thinkpoint virus successfully. Nobody is using the computer since then when my daughter connected today it froze after a bit of use. It restarted, and now it won't start at all. It shows the BIOS loading but then flashes the screen and loading XP restarts. If I try to reboot safe mode or use the last known good config that the computer still does not start XP.

    I already did the following:

    Check disk

    Bootcfg/Repair

System recovery (the one where you will install a new XP (with OS CD started from) but hitting R instead)

I am at a loss about what to do in addition to do a format/reinstall. There is no document import on this computer, but it would be better to do not reinstall.

P.S. It's a Dell Precision 390. And he has a strange video card, DVI dual nVidia Quadro NVS 285. Ive never seen anything else like before.

    Thank you

    Hello

  • New PC game

I gave my children pass systems in recent years.  It's time that I buy a new system.

When I receive systems for my part, I get the line of precision (lately 7910 Tower and M6700).

Right now they're playing minecraft and just started steam games.  This morning, they tried subnautica and it won't work on their machines (old Precision 390 due lack of ram) and old precision 4300 mobile for the same reason, then an old dimension 4700 for many reasons.

I'm looking for a new system (I need two).  The. I'm looking is a 8700 XPS with intel 4790 and 745 of Nvidia.  With 12 GB of ram, it is about $ 850 after rebate (still need to call dell rep) online.

In any case, this system won't be enough for minecraft and steam games or do I have to watch something else?  Only other thing I thought was a clarification of 1700, but which does not come with a video card and play for similar specs to the 8700 is a good bit more.  I have not watched systems alien ware no more.

I'm looking to build a system.  Just to check prices, build something similar to the XPS specification came out more.

Thanks for the help and all recommendations welcome.

    Thank you

    Mike

    I think I'll go with the 8700 XPS with I7 4790, GTX745 and 16 GB of ram.

I'll start by there is no "right" answer, so I'll share my thoughts.

If the goal is a game machine, desktop and web, then the system seems unbalanced.

-16 GB of memory is not necessary, 8 GB is more than enough.
-Earn 81 Pro? Not sure why this is necessary. It adds remote office, ability to be on a corporate domain and the built-in support for device bit locker encryption.
    - And, the GTX 745 will be the factor limiting major for the games.

It will be great for minecraft and some fast action games played at lower resolutions or lower visual quality, but it will analyze if a current game list in 1080 p.

However, this 8700 XPS will be perfect for an update of the graphics card future as the price of graphics cards come down, so it's a solid base.

However, if you are looking to balance the performance of game for a dollar, $600 (see link below) system will out perform the XPS 8700 with a GTX 745 to the game, and $1000 system will run circles around it. (Note that prices do not have an operating system)

    http://newbcomputerbuild.com/newb-computer-build-home/March-2015-gaming-PC-builds-month/

As I said, there is no right answer. For a turnkey system the 8700 is great, and it is a solid basis for the upgrades, however I do not think the GTX 745 will be good enough for very long.

If it were me, I'd find a way to get a GTX inside 960 and then leave it alone for several years.

    Good luck

  • Can't get past ctrl alt del login?

I uninstalled the USB drivers becaue they were not working with the key usb or other devices so I uninstalled without realizing that I was using usb keyboard and mouse, changed keyboard sp2 but it won't work so cannot get past the ctrl alt del logon?

SP2 mouse works, but no keyboard!

It is a work computer and need to fix it.

If your mouse works, then click on ease of access in the lower left corner of the login screen and select Type without the keyboard (on-screen keyboard). This will bring up the OSK and you can use the mouse to press the keys.
