Hi all

Excuse me, but I am very new to ESXi.

I need our representatives to access the virtual machines on the internet, what are the options to achieve this?

Can I open ports on the router? How secure is it? Should what ports I open?

    Thanks for the help.  Unfortunately, I tried two suggestions, all of the above steps, and nothing has fixed my problem.  However, during the process of going through the steps in the "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308007/en-us", I discovered "Microsoft Fix - it Solution Center".  Treatment of the symptoms of MS Fix - it network provided an instant repair the problem.  I still don't know what exactly was the problem, but now all computers can see each other on the LAN.

  • Can not power on virtual machines "cannot access the file because it is locked.

    Virtual machines have been working well - then the storage system is down.  After the storage system returns upwards that I can't turn on a number of virtual machines.  Get this error when I try to turn it on:

    Cannot power on vmname on esxhostname.xxxxx.com. Unable to access file < unspecified file name > because it is locked
    error

    1. To check the locks on the Service Console on non ESXi servers, run the command:

      lsof | grep

      Note: If there is no Console of Service process the locking file, you should receive no printed output.       Stop the process and the lock ID using the kill command. In the example above, the process ID is 3631:

      After the termination of the process, you can try to turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

    2. To check if the virtual machine is always a world ID assigned, run these commands on all ESX/ESXi hosts:

      CD/tmp
      VM-support - x

      Available to debug worlds:
      WID =

      On the ESX/ESXi host where the virtual machine still works, kill the VM, which releases the lock on the file. To kill the virtual machine, run the command:

      VM-support - X

      Where the is the ID of the world of the virtual machine with the locked file.

      Note: this command takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Answer No to "can I include a screenshot of the virtual machine", and answer Yes to all subsequent questions.

      After the termination of the process, you can turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

    Deleting the file .lck (NFS only)

    The virtual machine files can be locked via NFS storage. You can identify this as reported by .lck files. # (where # is the ID of the world that holds the lock file) at the end of the file name. It is a NFS file lock and appears only when you use the ls command as it is the hidden file.
    Beware: they can be removed safely only if the virtual machine is not running.

    Note: VMFS volumes have no .lck files. The locking mechanism for VMFS volumes is managed within VMFS metadata on the volume.

    You must kill the process that is locked, if it is not the case, you probably need to restart the VMware host.
    I tell you from experience most likely end up rebooting it.

    I've been playing with VMWare, and I must say that it is a great and easy to use tool.

    However, I encountered a single problem... the thing is that I am able to access comments from the host (via Remote Desktop), with the help of NAT port forwarding (I use port 9997 on the host, which is redirected to port 3389 off comments, and that market well connecting host-> comments), but Im not able to connect to the guest of the computers on the network local.

    NAT allows the use of such? Would need a different port forwarding to forward the port entering 9997 to 9997 locally on the host machine?

    I spent a lot of time and I have found no solution that could help solve this problem, so I decided to create a new post delivering this problem, hope to get some help here.

    EDIT: The host is a Windows 7 operating system

    It looks like a person (probably you) 'messed up' the configuration of the network.

    • You use the adapter of the NAT (192.168.137.1) default virtual host IP address to the second physical NIC.
    • The gateway and DNS address in the comments 192.168.137.1 rather than 192.168.137.2 (which is the default value)
    • Virtual host (vmnet8) NAT card uses an APIPA IP (169.254.142.69) address

    Expected configuration:

    • 2nd card physical NETWORK - a free, unused address range
    • Map of the host for virtual NAT - for example 192.168.137.1
    • Settings - The client network DHCP (for example 192.168.137.129/255.255.255.0, gate of entry as DNS server: 192.168.137.2)

    To resolve this situation, I recommend you remove the IP address of the second physical NETWORK adapter and then click on the button "Restore Default" in the virtual network Editor to clean up the virtual network. Then assign an IP address to a free subnet for the second physical NETWORK, but also the second PC card to connect you with this NIC

    Good job on the recovery! But all is not lost for your data. If you did the update via your PC, then in the early stages of the process should have been a backup of your data (assuming you do not defeat this feature). If you're on a PC, then look for in your entire hard drive to a file with the extension of the IPD (*.)     Method 1

    I suggest you temporary disable any third-party security software installed on the computer and check if you can connect to the internet.

  • Internet - online access problems

    I use a wireless home network.  When you access some sites internet the system automatically strikes me offline, and I have to click on tools and work offline button go back online.  For some addresses it keeps switch to offline mode and will not allow me to go online to access the site.  If I go to a different address, it works normally.

    I am studying and practicing fo my ccnent and I am very new to cisco routers and so far have done well until I tried to access the internet. I have a router 871 which has a switch catalyst 2950 branch above. connected to the switch, is this computer, a router cascading and an external network drive. connected to router cascading is an xbox, ps3 and another computer. on both computers I ping the router and the switch but I can't reach beyond the router to lynksis router that I used to connect to my network. also pingin one computer on the other give me "destination host unreachable".

    If you can ping the router on then you should be able to ping from the PC on. Try searching for the source of your ping to the IP Address of the VLAN 1 interface on your router and see if it works.
    In addition, you don't need these static routes:
