Virtual loan SAN - recommended Configurations vs HCL

I'm on version 1.1 of the document, it shows a R280 Dell that is not on the HCL VSAN and it includes SuperMicro which is not on the HCL.  It doesn't have the Dell R720, the R720xd and the T620 appearing in the HCL.  How to solve these two?

Correct,

Duncan - Thanks for the reply.   I was concerned by some servers which have been listed in one place, not both.

Wade spoke last week and he strives to address this problem in a reasonable amount of time, it is indeed not ideal.

  • Oracle Virtual Directory for SSL configuration

Hello experts, can you please help me understand whether a typing error in Oracle Enterprise Deployment guide for IDM http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E25054_01/fusionapps.1111/e21032/toc.htm#BEGIN, port of the OID is mentioned in Oracle Virtual Directory for SSL configuration - section 9.4.2.2. Why port ODI?

The guide mentioned how to configure OID for SSL in section 7.4.3.2 and here he mentioned port 389 OID! For example, during Setup for OVD, is not that we are supposed to talk about port OVD. Please help me clarify this confusion. BTW, in many places, the guide says clearly, if you have OVD, you mention port OVD here...

    Thank you

Specify the port OVD. I think that by default it's 6502.

  • Multiple virtual networks on a configuration

I want to know if it is possible to have more than one virtual network on a configuration and virtual machines on each network to communicate with each other.  I have already setup with two networks, but theres no way VMS ping on the other network, because theres no device to route traffic between them.

I bet there are others having this problem and maybe found a workaround.

    Thank you

Windows Server or linux with active routing is exactly the thing.

LM will create its own router of fencing of physical networks, but there is nothing in the product to interconnect two networks of arbitrariness in the config.

  • SAN storage configuration recommendations

We have a HP SAN with two fiber switches and a Bay of storage MSA2012FC with 12 146 GB drives.  I am trying to decide how to configure storage for our VI3 environment and seeks recommendations.

At this point, I am considering two-Bay RAID 10 (6-146GB disks each) with 1 (220 GB) or 2 (440 GB) LUNS defined by the RAID array.  The virtual machines are configured in an HA configuration so I think it would be better to have two tables separated raid against one.  This way I can separate the pairs HA between the RAID arrays.  If I create a single RAID 10 array, then if more then one disk fails in this table we could lose everything.  In the future, we will add another MSA2000 pregnant then we will have another 12 146 GB drives.  At this point, we can expand each Bay RAID 10 to 12 146 GB drives to give us more storage space and performance.

This sounds like a good plan?  Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hello

RAID 5 is recommended because the table can stay together if 1 disk breaks down. With spare disks, this is a good configuration. RAID 10, a disk fails and you are switched. If this also works...

I like Raid 5 and I have set up my disk space based on execution of 10-12 VMs per LUN. Who is the the average number per LUN. It's all about redundancy.

  • Recommended configuration for VCenter and SAN

    Hello

I learn to vmware to some extent and have a question or a request for recommendation on vsphere configuration.  I have install vsphere on a phyiscal on w2k8 server that has the vclient and the vcenter server.  This server also manages the back-end by iSCSI storage.  There are two ESX host, connect to the network, each execution of a few guest computers w2k8, and I have a guest configure with a primary domain controller ADDS and another on the other host as a replica domain controller.

Whenever my physical with vCenter server running on it gets the Windows updates, it asks me to restart.  This seems problematic, because I have to turn off all my virtual machines because they depend on the storage of the server that requires a reboot.

I read that vCenter can live in a virtual machine as well, but it seems that it would make me a little further.

Is there a better way to do it?  How can I keep my VMs running in order to update the storage server requires a reboot?

    Thank you very much!

As long as the virtual machines stored the common storahe presented by windows server, you have to stop the virtual machines each time that you update the operating systems on the storage server - storage works fine your forces don't need update as often.

I would recommend to move your VC serverto a separate machine either virtual or physical

We prepare 2 large VM environment with:

    VM2 c:\40GB (vmfs), d:\(2.0TB RDM), e:\(70GB RDM)

our san is Clariion CX3-80 wondered if we can use the SAN

software for the snapshot of the RDM volume for the backup of snapshot rather than

Use VCB or vBackup due to the size of large volume.

Were the only thing is do not know how much disk space for us let's do it

volume snapshot for our media servers can increase the backup volume.

More likely, since we use instant SAN software we

must use physical RDM mode in doing so, our virtual machine, we cannot use

Snapshots of VMware, but we can still do HA, DRS and vMotion.

    Can someone please advise.

To use SAN snap you should check if you have active SnapView.

If so, you should set some LUNS for the 'delta blocks' and follow the configuration for a software component plug-in environment.

Then, you can use Navisphere CLI, or AdmSnap framework to build your scripts.

  • request help to validate the SAN/network configuration

Hello, I am a new Member of the Forum, but I have worked with ESX for awhile and I do as much reading/study that I can.

I'll put up a new SAN HP MSA 2012i and 2 guests VMware Enterprise to use the San.

SAN block size is 64, and I know configure vmdk in VC/VIC, which should make the VMs' offset 64 and therefore correctly align the VMs. 99% Windows Server VM.

Our SAN has 2 controllers and disks configured as 1 vdisk that will be divided into multiple LUNS.

    management by controller 1 port

2 ports for iSCSI on each controller.

All are assigned static IP to the bosom of our subnet 172.16.0.xxx so they can all talk to the HP Procurve 2824 switch and therefore the hosts to be may eventually connect to the iSCSI LUN.

    My questions:

1 should I configure VLAN on the switch of the management controller ports Ethernet iSCSI SAN?

2 within the ESX, for his vSwitches, for the Service Console and vKernel, I use different subnets? (for example 172.16.1.xxx for the Service Console and 172.16.2.xxxx to vKernel, etc..) ??

Or I have to put the vSwitches in the same subnet 172.16.0.xxx?

    3. I know that I create the LUN in the MSA web console and then I point Virtual Center and hosts see LUNS. Can someone refer me to anything that can explain this in more detail?

    Thank you!!

As they say fast, good and cheap, pick two. It's just a fact of the business. We often work with the material we have and do the best we can.

    Go with 3 VLAN

1 for the management of virtual machines and any other non-virtuelle 172.16.0.0/24. Use 2 of your network adapters ESX hosts so that it has resume function.

    2 storage VLAN 1 172.16.1.0/24 1 Teddy

    3 storage VLAN 2 172.16.2.0/24 1 Teddy

This configuration enables redundancy for storage and networks VM/SC, with the hardware you already have.

You can still develop the latter if you get the funds.

  • the storage SAN boot configuration

I replaces my VMware host and have a question about best practices to configure local storage. Currently I have three Dell servers with embedded vmware 4.1. My new host has 4 300 GB SAS 15 k drives. I am currently begin directly to an EMC SAN using iSCSI. My plan is to continue to start directly on a new EMC e 3300 SAN using iSCSI. What is the best way to use local storage?

1 create a Raid 5, but only use it for the installation of vmware?

    2. create a smaller Raid for VMware, then another for the space to use the?

    3 another option all together?

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Don

If you install your ESXi on that RAID group, the difference will be available in a local data store.

  • Microsoft NLB on a virtual iSCSI SAN using computer

    Hello

Is it possible to use the NLB network on a virtual computer that is connected to an iSCSI SAN?  I was under the impression that MSCS is not available, use an iSCSI device, but is NLB another form of consolidation?  I am unable to find a clear answer anywhere else.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Yes its is possible, the storage has nothing to do with NLB, its pretty much traffic going to different hosts of network load balancing.
