Virtual reconstruction Center 2.5 Server vCenter 4.0 question...

I want to rebuild my BONES Virtual Centre current W2K3 to W2K8. Then, I want to install vCenter 4.0 on the newly rebuilt server.

I also have my Virtual Center SQL DB on a remote server. My question is when I reinstall vCenter can I simply recreate an ODBC connection and then point it to the DB of OLD Virtual Center?

It can also be useful

  • Migrate to the new server vCenter hw

I make plans to migrate all my my old hardware of server vCenter ESX hosts to a new (and much faster). Both vCenter servers are version 4. To delete a my old vCenter ESX host, I need to put it in maintenance mode. Maintenance mode means turn it off or by moving my VMs to other hosts.

Is there a way to move my ESX hosts to the new server vCenter without voltage VM?

    Hi bjornl,

If you need to keep the virtual machines running on the host computers, while removing a cluster host, data center or same vCenter, and then select the option 'Disconnect' first. The host shows as grayed out and disconnected. Once in this state you can 'remove' the host of your first vCenter.

Create your new data center and then "Add host" Cluster in the new. Everything will be powered on your virtual machines.

The only issues I've had with this is if the original or the new cluster using vMotion improve compatibility (EVC). This aspect must correspond to both ends. Once you do this, it works fine.

    Hope this helps,

  • Built a new server vcenter, simple as moving the hosts?

Hi, one of my clients is running ESX 3.5 U4 with Virtual Center 2.5 U4. We intend to upgrade their environment to vSphere this weekend. The server vcenter 2.5 right now is running underpowered, so they decided to deploy vcenter 4 on a new, more powerful box rather than upgrade existing installation. I built the server and installed vcenter 4 using their license key. My plan for this weekend seems simple enough, but I couldn't find this specific scenario anywhere in the guide of upgrade provided by vmware, so I thought I just would make sure:

    1. disable HA and DRS on current ESX cluster

    2. Unplug each host in turn of the bunch. (leave the cluster running in case of a need to roll back)

    3. Add each host in turn to a newly created on the new vcenter server cluster 4.

    4. turn on the DRS and HA services on cluster vcenter 4

    5. use of the upgrade Manager to upgrade each host ESX 4.

Am I missing something? Thank you.

After correcting the ESX host, address to Virtual Machines

Addressing guests ESX with Update Manager summary

In the Update Manager, create a database upgrade ESX host

On the References tab and select groups, upgrade of the baselines, click on create in the upper right corner

    Name: ESX 4.0

    Base Type: upgrade host

ESX upgrade iso: Browse for downloaded ESX 4.0 ISO

Set this line of base to your hosts

Scan of hosts against the base line

Tackle the hosts against base - * Note that Update Manager controls the application of the ISO you have downloaded and created a basic manual for running the ESX upgrade.  Update Manager is no longer just for the patches.

    Address to virtual machines

Select the tab 'reference levels and groups '.

    Select view planning for: VMs/SAV

    Under groups, select Create

The database name: VM Upgrade vSphere hardware and tools

In the new Group Wizard, select "Updates"

Select "VM Hardware to match the host"

Select "VMware Tools upgrade to host of the Match"

Come on in "inventory - models and virtual computers ' view

The leveling refers to virtual machines, you want to update - may fix the object data center level to apply to all virtual machines

Scan for update - can do on the subject of data center to all virtual machines at the same time

Clean up - can select a subfolder or individual to run VMs update process gradually

  • VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I'm running the virtual appliance of the trial 5.5.0.20400 build 2442330 on ESXi 5.5.0, 2068190

While I try to log on to the Web Client, I get this error.  VSphere Web Client cannot connect to the server vCenter Single Sign On.

I put fallow the steps to disable SSO by changing the webclient.properties line add file and ad sso.enabled = false .    Then on the vCenter Server Appliance, restart the vSphere client service by typing service vsphere-client restart .

    I enclose the reference files.

    All ideas will be useful

This answer was simple, all I had to do was remove the # in front of the statement in the file.   and SSO has been disabled after the restart of the service.

  • Space required on the server vCenter for statistical level increased

I'm in vCenter Server and this is the SQL database on separate virtual machines.  I have size my SQL database for level 2 of the statistics.  What is the size of the disk hard virtual on my server vCenter Server must support statistics level 2 to 3000 VMs and 150 physical servers?  I know that the main impact of the size of the disk is SQL Server according to the requirements not vCenter to because the VCDB database is stored on my SQL Server in this case.  However, if a major impact is to increase your level of 1 to 2 on virtual disks of vCenter Server statistics? (I have already addressed vCPU and needs of vRAM and prepared for this, I just need to look at the disk space now)

    Thank you!

You're right, the size of the database will be the primary component that is affected when you increase the level of statistics. I don't see any impact on the vCenter Server disks.

  • How to clean an installation Vcenter 5.5 missed a second server vCenter linked mode

    Hello

    First of all, my situation:

I managed to install the following services on a single box:

vCenter Single Sign-On (Vcenter Single Sign-on to your first server vCenter Server)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

    vCenter Server

The first properly installed vCenter (SRMVC.test.local).

I then ran the installation on the second vCenter server (SRMVCDR.test.local)

vCenter Single Sign-On (vCenter Single Sign-on for an additional vCenter server with a new site)

    vSphere Web Client

    vCenter Inventory Service

vCenter Server (linked modes) * impossible *.

I came across a mistake by joining the vCenter linked mode.  I then tried to force who do not have, and installation cancelled.   I think I am facing this problem described in this KB:

Connecting two servers vCenter fails with the error: error 28039.Setup cannot join vCenter Server group related modes (1026087)

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2006850

Now, I see a series of problems with the virtual machine that may be the root cause.  When I open the Server Manager there is an error when I try to view the roles or features.   The error I see is:

Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: element not found (except for HRESULT:0 x 80070490)

To make a long story short:

I don't really want to solve the problem on the virtual machine.  I think there could be a problem with the template I've deployed this virtual machine from and I would just blow it way and the redeployment of a new model. The problem is that, in the previous installs, I had trouble to reinstall a second vCenter after a failure to install because different services have already been registered with the first SSO server.

    My question:

How to completely clean all the necessary components on the first server vCenter after a failed install a second server vCenter mode related?  I think that the second server is not only with its own UNIQUE authentication server, but also with the first server in the SSO site located on SRMVC.test.local.  I want to blow any trace of it so that the environment is pristine and so that I can use the same name of the second vcenter (VCSRMDR.test.local) when I reinstall.

If the second vcenter also has its own SSO installed on the same machine and the second SSO has been installed in multisite mode (should be Yes, because the main goal is to related modes), you need a clean to the top of the first SSO vmdrd.

VMware support specific utility to get this done, please file a case for support.

Installing vCenter isn't going to be a problem, each installation has a user ID application created with the date of installation, this ID and certificate (which should be unique for a new installation, disable ssl programdata folders if re - install) are used to record vcenter to OSP.

So the old entries will not be a problem for the other components.

ever since the webclient service, you can remove users from the application:

Log webclient with [email protected] the first web client.

Under setting up users and groups, under the users Application tab, you can see all the application registered users.

To identify that one to remove

for vcenter, check the file C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\ssoregtool\vssso.properties.

Once you know the job vcenter ID, you can delete the ID of the other.

Ditto for the inventory service, the inventory service ID can be found in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\conf\sso.ini

For webclient files is C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\vSphereWebClient\SsoRegTool\sso_conf\solution.ini

vCenter and webclient has a user record solution with sso, which must be removed from the command line. This is the KB for this: 2033238

again, you can use the above mentioned files to identify the one to delete.

  • Will there be traps to vCenter Server installation on a host in a cluster that is already managed by another server vCenter Server?

I guess that the first answer, I'll be back will be; Why?

Our Organization has decided that the team of UNIX and the Windows team cannot share a single server vCenter Server that manages the environment. This is why the Windows team has offered a virtual computer in which we installed vCenter Server and then we can create our environment from there.

Yes, I already read the doco on the creation of a virtual machine via the Client vSphere on an ESXi host we manage already. It's a viable option, but server 2008r2 should again be a picture they have made.

I watched the vCenter Server appliance for linux, but from what I can tell that would be too small for our environment and is not supported for Symantec Appha.

Yes, it would be nice if we could all play nice, but mgmt don't we have to so that's where we are.

The ideas and concerns would be useful...

    Thank you!

I see - it's just an unusual set of circumstances. As long as the virtual machine has network connectivity, it should work. It would be really no different than having a physical server with vCenter running on it.

  • Unable to connect to the server vCenter because the user name or password not valid

    Hello

I have a VMware View version 5.1.0 installation (704644) and when I try to add additional virtual machines to an existing pool I get the message (cannot connect to the server vCenter because the username or password are invalid).

I have checked all the instructions below and still failed to add virtual machines

If you are unable to connect to vCenter Server:

    1. Confirm that a network port exists and is available. For more information, see increase the number of ports assigned to a virtual switch for VMware View (1026014).

    2. Confirm services VMware View manager are running. For more information, see check which required VMware View Manager services are running (1026136).

    3. Confirm that the network is correctly configured for use in a VMware View environment. For more information, see in the VMware View virtual desktop network configuration (1026498).

    4. Confirm that name resolution is functioning properly in your environment. For more information, see audit for VMware View DNS settings (1026017).

    5. Check that the permissions/credentials are correct for the user of the vCenter server. For more information, see confirm/credentials permissions are correct for user vCenter/vCenter server (1028705).

    6. Confirm that outcomes of the interaction of third parties do not exist with the operating system. For more information, see the confirmation that there are no questions of third-party interaction with the OS in a VMware View environment (1027466).

The virtual machine, I have already assigned to this pool, I can access. I can access by using the client view and also from the console.

    Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

    See you soon

You have the same problem with other pools?   Have you returned through configuration under the Configuration/servers view vCenter configuration?

  • Should install us the Client on Server vCenter converter?

    We use ESXi 5.

We would like to know is possible for us to track the progress of the conversion of the vCenter Server or we need to check the status of this particular physical machine only?

There is no need to install the converter on a physical machine, it works fine on a virtual server. Besides Converter a client/server installation, you can install the client separately so it has access to the server (by default) 443 port

You can install the Converter server to vCenter Server. Just keep in mind that all the V2V conversions traffic passes through it and plan for your resources accordingly.

  • Virtualize the Server vCenter

I can't find documentation of configuration for the server vCenter 4.0 of virtualization.  I have vCenter installed on a physical server now and you want to use the inverter or P2V tool.  I have a new deployment next too and want to know the steps to create the server vCenter virtual from scratch.  There are no official document?

You should read chapters 10-13 of the Setup Guide:

    http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.PDF

    It's all there.

It'll be faster and easier to perform a new installation in a virtual machine rather than P2Ving the existing physical server.

  • Update/migration 2.5 to 4 on the other server vCenter

I read the vSphere Upgrade Guide. In particular at page 49 the topic "upgrading to vCenter Server on a different Machine and keeping the existing database" seems to correspond to what we intend to do.

We have a 2.5u4 physical vCenter with SQL 2005 local and we wish to migrate to vCenter 4 on a local virtual machine with 2008 x 64 with SQL 2008.

    Some questions I have:

Q1: What happens to all the 3.5u4 of ESX host? Are they automatically made the new FQDN to the new destination server name? Are they members of the same cluster...

Am I basically look the same except for: a) I am now on vCenter 4; (b) my vCenter server name is now different and GUESTS know this change.

Q2: What happens to all Virtual Machines? They are members of the same groups / pools of resources etc.

Basically, T1 & 2 are the same, the guide does not seem to explain what happens after the process upgrade/migrate as clearly as I would like.

Q3: What time is it "safe" uninstall the SOURCE server vCenter?

    VCP3 32846

    VSP4 VML-306798

All the guests reconnection and cluster reconfiguration will be done automatically. You don't have to do anything manually after the migration. Please make sure that the users and groups who use VC inherited is available on the new configuration also.

I think it will be a good idea to uninstall VC inherited when vCenter 4.0 is operational and works correctly with all the hosts and reconfigured clusters.
