Vista: Only Local No. INTERNET

Currently, we have installed a new router (Netgear N300) wireless and my laptop is the only computer that does not connect to the internet. The small icon to the left of my screen says only: ACCESS: LOCAL ONLY.

BASICALLY,.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, laptop Toshiba Satellite

I can connect if I use a cable, but its disadvantages

I can connect wireless to of my friends houses and public places

I TRIED:

Various microsoft corrects this by resetting TCP and something about broadcasting DCHP

Disabling ipv6

Norton Removal tool - I can't get this to work properly. I enregistrer to save on my flash drive, open it and a black command promp like 5 seconds to open and close. nothing else happens later

and messing around with different properties wireless and other things I don't remember

I was without internet for about a week. If anyone can help me, it would be much appreciated!

I'm assuming you have #' ed the IP address of your router. This number would be really useful in the diagnostic process to determine if you are actually getting a connection to the router. I should mention that give the internal IP address of your router is not a breach in security and no one can identify it to you (so it is safe to post on the forums).

Unavailable destination host can mean many things, but without knowing which returned IP address this answer, it is difficult to tell you what to do next. If you can put it, that would be fantastic!

In addition, you can try to update the wireless drivers. If you visit the link below, choose Windows Vista and WiFi in the drop down boxes. The driver you are looking for must be Atheros Wireless LAN Driver for Windows Vista (32 bit / 64 bit) (v7.7.0.288.0, 2009-06-30; 45.09 M):

Those install and see if you have better luck!

On the Vista computer, it shows me as connected but only locally and does not allow me to connect to the internet. The wireless network is secure with WPA2. Before configuring security, I was able to connect to the internet on both computers. Any suggestions for settings that get around this problem? Thank you.

    Hi annev72,

First of all, you can try to update the drivers for wireless card and check if it works.

For more information, you can consult the following link to update the drivers

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work correctly

    Step 2: Turn off IPv6

Try to uninstall IPv6 on all interfaces, the removal of virtual cards of IPv6 and reset the TCP/IP stack. To remove the IPv6, go to the properties for each network adapter, and deselect the check box next to the Protocol "Internet Protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6), which will turn off, or select it and click on uninstall, which withdraw power off the computer.» Then go into Device Manager and remove any 4to6 adapters, adapters miniport WUN or tunnel adapters.
NOTE: You should do this for each network connection.

    Hope this information is useful.

    Hello

I Sat P300 and zet 3 usb allows you to connect to the internet.
But for some unknown reason, the access pass to local access only and return to the local and internet.
This can happen every 2 minutes or sometimes not at all.

  • Upgrade of Vista SP2-loss of internet connection

I upgraded a VISTA 64 laptop computer to SP2 yesterday evening.  He seems to have retained my 802.11n network configuration, but since the upgrade will connect only locally, not to the internet via the wireless connection.  (It is not a problem with my network or modem, as another VISTA laptop wireless and other devices will continue to work properly.)  The ethernet connection works fine. I tried:

    • disable the firewall (Norton)
    • Diagnose and repair
    • confirmed connection to the router
    • newspapers of router checked-only MAC address is not blocked
    • updated the Intel 4965AGN driver to the latest version

Any suggestions?  I am reluctant to completely recede SP2 unless absolutely necessary.

    lopburi3,

This looks exactly like my question.  While I do not understand what has happened, I found a solution. Try this:

    • Log into your router and check what IP address is assigned to the computer that is not connecting.  If there is no assignment yet, give it a static address.
    • Go into your wireless connection TCP/IP properties and enter the manual configuration information: IP address assigned, the subnet mask and the router (default gateway) address.

For me, allowed me to connect through Internet.

    Edit:
as a first step, I had to re - enter the manual configuration after each reboot, and my router would not correctly identify the MAC address of my laptop (he appeared as 00:00:00:00:00:00).  After a couple more re - start last night, the computer retains the settings, so I could connect without having to re-enter the configuration, if the router is not yet MAC address list.

I've then updated the firmware on my router last night.  (D-Link DIR-655)  Now, after another reboot, everything seems to work properly, with the portable duly identified in the router. There was clearly a problem with the network adapter and the router communicates correctly. brodyboy

  • I only 'local only' connection, does anyone know a real solution that works?

    Hello

My computer is a Dell XPS M1330 on Vista.
Recently, I have noticed my wifi says identification or connected only local connection.
Because this came I was not able to connect to any wireless network.
I tried to connect directly via cable ethernet... still the same
Even my 3 G Dongle says the same thing.
The router works well because I use another computer on it, cables etc. all well tested okay with other computers.
The computer worked fine on the router until the router is a D-Link router.
I am pleased that the router is not the problem as all of the other computers and devices connect very well but I tried factory resetting is still no joy.
I tried drvers off installation and reinstallation on the computer, but that networking does not work on wired, wireless or 3 g dongle I suspect something went wrong somewhere with the computer.
Can someone please suggest a solution.
    Concerning

But no change in connectivity.
    Help, please.

    Hello

    ·          Update you the network card with the latest drivers?

    Method 1:

I suggest that you disable Antivirus software and firewall temporarily on your computer and check if you are able to connect.

Note: Please make sure that you enable the antivirus software and firewalls after the test to keep your computer protected.

    Method 2:

You can try the manual steps suggested in the following article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/928233

Note: serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. • Windows Vista cannot access the internet, the link speed and Duplex negotiation seems to be the problem

I have a desktop running Windows Vista Home basic and I can't connect to the internet through a local network, which is connected through a router (Belkin). Adapter type is Internet: Intel 825562V-210/100

After consultations with the support of technichal society of router and my PC vendor, it seems that there is aproblem with negotiating the link speed. Here are some symptoms:

    I can access the internet if I connect the cable directly to the modem;

Connected through the router, I can sometimes connecting to the internet if Imaually change settings of connection speed (10 / 100 Mbps, half/full duplex)

    All other PC connected to the network, using Win Vista and throuhg connected to the same router, have access to the network;

    If I connect my network cable to another PC, it will have access to the internet;

The status of my PC seems to be 'connected' on the site of implementation of routers. The State of my connection is sometimes "Local only" sometimes "Local and Internet", but in fat, there is no internet access.

    I tried the following:

Trouobleshooting under the direction of the technical support of the router and PC vendor.

Update the operating system to restore to an earlier date, to restore to the factory settings; Reformatting my PC 2 times, (first internet worked for a few hours only); update the OS (by connecting directly to the modem); Turning off Win Defender, removing software antivirus. Reset LAN connection...

    Any suggestion please?

    New router solved the problem.

Thanks a lot, especially Jack :-).

    Hello

Check the updated drivers for the NETWORK card and WiFi.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

When a user authentication Web Page inserts user and password of SSID wireless (users who need to be authenticated in Active Directory via ACS) it is authenticated.
