Vista - reformatting computer as it is slow

Re start/reformat

Re start/reformat

Hey j.Ansari

to reinstall vista, you will need to either use recovery discs that came with your computer or get them from the manufacturer of the computer to reinstall vista

Alternatively, you can ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to your computer at the factory standards

you would normally begin the recovery process started by pressimg F10 or F11 or Alt + F10, etc. 0

Ask them of the exact key sequence

I had a problem during the 2 weeks when I try to turn on my computer, it usually won't turn on and start. I press the button and it flips amber for a second, but not power not on.

After hours the other day I finally got and I was leaving on fear to turn it off. The computer fan also does not work. Also in the internet on this subject started to become very slow for a few days, and yet even internet works fine on my other computer that I use now to post with. The computer itself is not slow, just the internet on this subject. I don't know how this could be related, but I guess it must be related to my problem given that the Internet is fine on my other computer.

Also, not sure if this is related, but until this problem occurs the computer freezes a lot and I have to force it off the coast. Or he would break himself. I don't know what message it would but it would go to the black screen of death and mention something about an internal clock, then restart itself.

I removed Mcafee virus softwear a few weeks ago and downloaded Microsoft virus softwear on the same day. Other then that I did not any changes to the computer recently. I use a Dell Studio xps 435MT with vista. I checked and all drivers are updated.

Here are the steps I did to try to understand the problem: I have run the dell diagnostic test and it detected no problems. I also looked in the event viewer, but there's a lot of mistakes, so I don't know if it could cause a problem. Memory diagnostics have been run, and no problem found there. A comprehensive analysis was performed as well and it detected no viruses.

Please help me I am at my wits end here.

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods above
It is preferable to ensure that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are located)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.

Help, please.  We have set up a working group, the destop with Windows XP behaves as the server and laptop with Windows Vista is the other computer.

We can share and open all files.

The problem is with a mortgage loan software. (Chalice)  On the Vista computer, when you try to open a file, we get the error "the file is used by someone else.  You want to open the file in read-only Mode? "We have worked with their Tech Support who insists on the fact that it's a Microsoft set up the problem with the server computer.  In their diagnosis, they say that the cause may be "the server has locked files or you don't have full access to the records.  Their Technical Support remotely connected to our two computers and verified that we have the network set in place correctly-"everyone" has full control of the files.  Both computers have disabled the Windows Firewall.  How can I check if the file is locked by the server?  And why would he block specifically for mortgage loan software?  Any other troubleshooting help would be most appreciated.  They have guaranteed that this software can run on both Windows XP Vista computers & a set.

Another question - when I right click on the folder that this error message, and then click Properties, on the general tab, attributes, the 'Read only' box is populated with a solid green box.  It can also be a check mark or a cache.  I deleted the solid green box and tick, apply settings, but still no luck.  What is the difference between the solid green box and the checkbox for that?

Thank you to those who can help - we are really at a loss!

Why you want to reinstall your PC? It could be that you don't need to reinstall Windows, and solutions you could solve, which is recommended.

However, if you want to reinstall your Windows, it's NOT F8, F8 key belongs to Windows and he'll fix the problems. To reinstall Windows, you must use differently for Dell steps:

  • Blue screen on a Vista Ultimate computer with My Book World Edition NAS drive when SSDP Discovery service is enabled.

I recently added a Western Digital My Book World Edition (White Light) 1 TB NAS drive to my home network for backup purposes. The drive works very well with my two wired computers Windows XP and my computer Windows Vista Home Edition wireless. My problem is with Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit) wireless station (a Lenovo IBM ThinkPad X 61 Tablet PC).

On the Vista Ultimate computer, if I have sudden, Normal startup, then the computer will work fine except for when I go to shut down the computer. When I stop, the computer crashes for twenty minutes, suffered a blue screen (BSOD, saying he was arrested wrongly) event and then restarts automatically. This only happens if the drive My Book World Edition is online on the network. Turn the player off line and there is no problem on the computer.

I reduced the problem down to the SSDP Discovery service. If I disable the SSDP Discovery service, then the problem goes away. (I do not consider that a viable permanent solution.)

The big difference between Vista computers is only on the computer to Vista Home (one that has no problem), MIMBOE drive does not appear in Device Manager at all. On the computer Vista Ultimate (the one with the problem), the reader MIMBOE appears once under the record heading and once under system devices.
