Vista Ultimate start up... states missing .sys file...

I think that my startup was devastated by a virus... PC will not boot in Vista Ultimate place as he says I'm missing \windows\system32\drivers\jvbmg.sys...nothing on this driver on the internet so I think this is a fake driver vista is looking for and not allowing not pc to start.  I can't go to the command prompt or anything.  I was clearing off the coast of the infection by the virus when it happened.  I don't have a vista disc I bought someone's computer... What can I do?  Help, please!

I FIXED IT!  OK, here's the deal... more than likely a virus that caused all this... but this file... Well well... vista restore, go to the command prompt and using knowledge back old school, did a search directory in the windows/system32/drivers directory and found my problem file... .weird thing which is have no associated K... so a sequence of keys del jvbmg.sys later, we have lift off... nice huh?

    Hi Hal K,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Answers.

If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you run a 64-bit version of Windows, you can perform an upgrade to another 64-bit Windows version.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows, and vice versa, you will need to back up your files and then perform a custom of the version of Windows you want to install installation.

    Hello

If you need to save data to a drive non-Boot you can put the drive in another computer
or in an external USB enclosure - either allows you to copy the data to a removable media. NOTE
There are two dangers that these 1. The system in which you put the drive could be infected
and 2. malicious software could be transferred to the new facility.

So it would be best to do the above to remove the malware, and those that could eventually allow the computer
to start of so it can be repaired.

/ Settings (BIOS/CMOS) often F2 as you start then look at screen - set the boot order to
CD/DVD first and start with these to run audits of malware and the removals. Be sure to set the boot
    order return when finished.

No saving necessary data and re-installing Windows Vista might be the best option.
(I ran the malware checks first to help eliminate the chances that he would be transferred

You can save your files by putting the drive in another computer as a 2nd disk (best) or external
Drive USB enclosure and then backup to removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives.
Of course a real store of the computer or the manufacturer of your system can help to recover the files.

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

  • How to start VDS in Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit?

I have a problem, and it's been a while and still not solved...

I have Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit right now and I want to upgrade to Windows 7, but installation is NOT going through perhaps because of the virtual disk service.

How to START the virtual disk service? Everytime I try through services, I get an error 3: the system cannot find the path specified.

Please tell me HOW to start the virtual disk service. and please do NOT move this thread on the forum windows 7, I posted in the front Vista section and moved to the region of Win 7, where my problem has not been resolved. Please leave it in this section. Thank you.

Ok. The file is in the right place. The registry is missing the path to
the file. Wonder how that happens - sigh?

Type Regedit in the search box of the start menu.

    Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\vds

Right-click on an empty area in the right pane - choose new - extensible
String value. Name ImagePath (F2 key renames it). Double-click
    ImagePath and assign
    %SystemRoot%\System32\vds.exe

Now you can start the service?

  • Vista cannot start because of accidentally deleted system files

    Hello

my laptop was working very well until some files were accidentally deleted and now Vista cannot start.
There is a message saying that I need to contact the system administrator or the manufacturer of the pc.

Is there anything you could recommend?
I would appreciate if you could help me find a way to record all of the information contained in hard drives.

    see you soon

If you are not able to boot up the laptop and refuse it to Vista to start then take recovery in hand, insert it and start on this CD from Toshiba.

Then the cell phone should boot from the recovery CD and reinstall the whole OS again.
This should help, but the HARD drive will be formatted.

I'm trying to play age of Empires 3 on my computer running windows vista Home premium and the program does not start. I get the error message: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\d3dx9_25.dll is not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." I tried many suggestions from Microsoft (resettlement program, reinstall in safe mode, update & reinstall the drivers for my video card, the compatibility issues with vista, updating and reinstalling directx 9.0 c, install vista service packs 1 & 2) but nothing has worked so far. I was able to play the game on the same computer with windows xp installed (it's a different hard drive that is not in the computer, and everything is the same) and it worked fine. Hi Raygun55,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

This problem may occur if the Microsoft DirectX file that is mentioned in the error message is damaged or is not copied correctly.

I suggest that you copy the file manually by following the steps and check if you are able to play the game without any problems:

    Manually copy the file

To do this on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps:

1 insert the disc 1 CD for one of the following games into the player from the computer:

    o Age of Empires III

    o Fable: The Lost Chapters

    o Zoo Tycoon 2

o Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends

    2. click on start to reduce this includes this image and then click Documents.

    3. Locate, and then click computer.

    4. search and then click on the CD drive.

    5. Locate and then click the following folder:

    CD player :\ DirectX9

Note In this folder path, the CD player represents the drive letter of the CD drive.

6 double-click on Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x86.cab, right click on d3dx9_25.dlland then click copy.

In Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends, double click Aug2005_d3dx9_27_x64.cab right-click d3dx9_27.dlland then click copy.

Note Use the Apr2005_d3dx9_25_x64.cab file for the x 64 version of the Windows operating system.

    7. find one or more of the following folders, depending on the games that are installed on the computer:

By car : \Program Files\Microsoft: Age of Empires III

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Fable - The Lost Chapters

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Zoo Tycoon 2

    By car : \Program Files\Microsoft Games\Rise of legends

Note In these folder paths, drive represents the letter of the drive where the game is installed.

    8. right click on the folder of the game which is the part that is installed on the computer, and then click Paste.

Note If you have installed more than one game on the computer, repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other games.

You can check the link for more information: error message when you try to start a Microsoft game: "the file d3dx9_XX. DLL was not found": http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910813

Alternatively, you can try to install the game in XP compatibility mode and check if you are able to play or not.

Right-click on the game > click Properties > click on the Compatibility tab > select for XP compatibility mode > click OK.

Let me know if it worked.
