VM guests loses network

Hello, VMware novice here, I have an ESXi installation recently installed a Dell 1950. I installed CentOS 3 guests and they work very well, however, when they are restarted, they usually do not return to the top with network connections. I noticed that I need to uncheck 'Connected' to their NIC under the options for each guest, record and save, and the network reappears as if by magic.

Someone at - he seen this behavior and know a cause/solution for this?

Thank you!

Install the VMware Tools... I'm running two CentOS 5.x (5,4) VM on my u1 ESXi 4 home with no problems... Also, make sure that the network in the virtual machine configuration is correct. The tools, very probably, will solve the problem although...

    Rumor has it that the 10.11.6 recent update is part or all of the problem, according to the opinion.

    The "fix" of the day is to disable Back to My Mac in AirPort Utility, that seems to work for users who have helped with my Mac. Of course, you lose functionality when you do this.

    No solution yet for users who do not use Back to My Mac, because they cannot turn off something they did not.

    What TMS version are you running?

    There is the possibility that the TMS incorrectly reports that the MMS is not there.

    There is a bug with some of the releases of TMS14.x where he seems hurt some devices as offline, or with incorrect credentials.

    I think of my old emails, as the upgrade to TMS15.0 solved the problem.

    We have not seen this kind of problem recently (with TMS15 +) where we used to get quite frequently in the TMS14.

  • Asstistance guest only network

    Hello all,.

    I'm new to using VMware.  I have searched for help with my problem but have not found exactly what I'm looking for.

    Background:

    VMware Player 4.0.2 build-591240

    Host machine: Windows 2003 Server on laptop

    NIC #1 not connected to network

    VMnet1 IP: 192.168.0.1

    DG: NO

    DHCP: 192.168.0.254

    DNS: 192.168.0.1

    • I put the virtual machine to use in network.
    • I extracted the vmnetcfg.exe and checked all settings appear as expected.
    • Guest OS, I can ping to the host by the name of host and intellectual property.
    • I can't ping between host and guest.

    My ultimate goal is to be able to have a network tight that I can run Nessus, WebInspect, and Nmap scans against any test purposes.  The procedure to set up the guest only network seems simple, but I can't understand why I can't ping between host and the VM.  I'm sorry if I'm duplicating a post, but I was not able to find a solution.

    Thanks in advance for your help.

  • no connectivity between the virtual machines on the guest only network

    I have trouble getting the network connectivity between two Windows 7 computers using a guest only network virtual in VMware Player.  Each virtual machine is able to get a (unique) IP address via dhcp and can ping itself and the bridge, but could not reach the other system.  I looked on my host computer adapter VMnet1 in Wireshark and saw incoming icmp packets in, but nothing is returned new.  My vmnetdhcp.conf file is unchanged with the exception to add a line to set the default gateway on my guests.  It was an attempt to solve this problem, and the same behavior was observed before changing anything.  Here are the details for this network segment:

    subnet 192.168.184.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
    range 192.168.184.128 192.168.184.254;            # by default allows up to 125 VM
    option broadcast-address 192.168.184.255;
    option domain-name-servers 192.168.184.1.
    option domain-name "localdomain".
    routers option 192.168.184.1;  # This is the line, I added
    by default-lease-time 1800;
    Max-lease-time 7200;

    host VMnet1 {}
    Hardware ethernet 00:50:56:C0:00:01;
    fixed-address 192.168.184.1;
    option domain-name-servers 0.0.0.0.
    option domain-name ";
    }

    Is there a problem with my configuration somewhere, or is it just a limitation of VMware Player?

    You may need to allow ICMP traffic of WF with Windows 7 as OS.

    I installed VMWare tools on the guest-os (Win2003R2). I started Win2008R2 nine as host and shared folder did not work. I thought that maybe it works with OS experienced as Win2K3 and built a brand new Windows 2003 host and once again no shared folder. Later, I found above document, saying: it is not supported at all then, is there any altarnatives.

    Only way I see is, add a dummy WinXP guest with "bridged" n/w, to play the role of trading place for exchanging files b/w other guests and the host. In my case, it is very important to keep the others invited Win2003 unware of outside n/w.  This strategy XP, just to share the log file is an exaggeration.  I guess people must have solved this problem in a more elegant way, if so please let me know, if there are better ways.

    Host is able to ping Guest, but not the otherway, and I think, it's because unless configuration host only the client ethernet adapter is not connected to the physical ethernet adapter of the host.

    Should not be.  Windows is concerned, host-only network is just like a physical NIC connected to a physical LAN.  It's just that in this case, the cards are virtual and the LAN is separate from any other LAN.  In short, your physical host as "two network cards", the physical on and the only host.  The host only one is connected to a virtual switch.  The only other thing connected to this virtual switch is NIC of the virtual machine

    Host is able to ping Guest, but not the otherway, and I think, it's because unless configuration host only the client ethernet adapter is not connected to the physical ethernet adapter of the host.

    As noted above, do not need to connect to the physical NETWORK card because the parameter invited only creates a LAN completely separated between the physical host and the virtual machine.

    If there is procedure to this share windows works, please give me more details. A shared windows is all I need (without resorting to the NAT) to Exchange data between G & H.

    At this point, traditional troubleshooting techniques can be used.  If the comments can not PING host, host has disabled firewall?  But if your goal is to share a file from the guest virtual machine, then PING the host comments is not essential.  Simply the host can display the actions on the guest.  (In fact, PING is not essential whatever it is, as long as you see the shares.)  And you look at one/PINGing by name or IP address?  If you do not need, just use the IP address to remove any DNS resolution problems.

  • Apple TV loses network connection

    Why my Apple TV loses its network connection? Each article I found said it's your network... It is not my network. I have 4 other Apple TV on my network of 5 ghz and they work great. I've seen articles that say it is the signal of my AirPort Extreme. It is not the case... As I said previously I have 4 other Apple TV scattered throughout the House and Apple TV that has the problem is sitting right next to the AirPort Extreme. All 5 Apple TV are Gen 3 and the updated version. So is there anything else I can try before buying a new Apple TV?

    Other devices work does not have a network problem.

    You can get a report ffrom istumbler, netstumbler or similar to see a current state of the network. This will give you the strength of the precise signal, noise, networks nearby. With the help of Ethernet will also check. You can also test it on another network

  • Airport Extreme intermittently lose network signal

    For several days, I repeatedly lose my network signal.  I spent an excessive amount of time troubleshooting including going so far as to have a comcast tech come by today, but it's a bit like going to the doctor... When the doctor walks in the room, all of a sudden all the symptoms disappear.  Anyway, has dropped signal, network cannot be found, restart the modem and the router on a regular basis.  some time, restart allows the devices to the network.  Sometimes it doesn't.  And when that happens, it is not compliant and will lower it again anywhere from immediately or several hours later.  Comcast claims signal input in an apartment is good as well as the modem is good.  They think it is my Apple Extreme router.  However, the same missing network behavior occurred even when I bypassed the router and used a direct connection to the modem via ethernet.  For example, if the signal coming from the wall is good and the modem is good but I have the same problems even if without going through the airport, what happens?  Hope that someone out there more knowledgeable and patient I can sort this out.  I am happy to buy new hardware but want to be sure, that I need.  Comcast, recommended, of course, I get a new modem.  Motorola, of course, said that there is nothing wrong with the modem.  So now, I go to the Apple people to evaluate the remaining product that is Apple.  Thank you.

    However, the same missing network behavior occurred even when I bypassed the router and used a direct connection to the modem via ethernet.

    Is your modem or ISP...

    The problem occurs intermittently... the curse of living in any repair technician. If they can see what is happening, then they can work on that.

    You have no choice but to continue to pursue to the ISP.

    For now use mac plugged directly on the modem... and as soon as he left the ring and say that it does not work now.

    This modem do you have?

    Certainly, we have experienced problems with the Modem Motorola... SB6141 is the top of the list.

    The problem with the airport is well known... but I would have thought that the live Mac should be ok...

    In any case a new modem is not expensive and worth it.

    The zoom seems the best solution... check that it is on the list of comcast.

    Zoom modem.

  • VM loses network connectivitiy if I'm moving to 2nd network card on the host

    Hello

    I have a server esxi 5.5 2 NIC. If I move my vm network to my 2nd nic (keeping the IP of my vm configuration), they fall outside the network (of yellow exclamation in the internet connection of Windows/loser).

    Is there something in esxi that I failed to do?

    Please notify.

    UM... the problem is maybe on the physical switch, a Cisco called port security feature can turn off a switch port physical if the same MAC address appear on different ports... and given that the virtual machine was working on the 1st vSwitch, the MAC address of the VM has been associated with the switch port physical connected to vmnic used for the 1st vSwitch , but when you change this virtual machine to the 2nd vSwitch the physical switch detects the address MAC tries to associate vmnic used for the 2nd vSwitch so that disable the physical switch port where the vmnic1 is connected.

    The solution is to ask your host if they are really using the port security and disable it.

  • Fusion on Mac Pro - dedicate a guest only NETWORK card (and have the OS ignore)

    As the subject says. Such a thing is possible?

    I don't know if I'm looking in all the wrong places, or just to ask the question properly.

    Here's what I was wondering:

    I have a Mac Pro with two network adapters. I want to use one for the host (OS X) and the other only for the guest OS. And using it for the guest OS, I want OS x to ignore it completely.

    If possible, how to apply such a facility?

    1 OS X > system preferences > network > Hardware icon > set order of Service

    • In the Service order worksheet, have the NIC priority placing the card NETWORK to use for the host at the top of the list, followed by the NETWORK card dedicated to the virtual machine, and then click OK.

    2 OS X > System Preferences > network

    • Select the card NETWORK dedicated to the virtual machine, and then to configure IPv4: stop selection, then click on apply.
    • Then to configure IPv4: check the DHCP with manual address.
    • Then for IP address: use a reserved address of 169.254.0.0 to 169.254.255.255 IANA Internet Assigned Numbers Authority () and then click on apply.  It's the range of addresses for the automatic private IP addressing, which normally would be affected if the NETWORK adapter does not have a connection but not to worry, it will be... only for the bridge of VMware which will be defined in the next step.

    3 target Virtual Machine settings > network adapter > Bridged Networking, select the NETWORK adapter chosen for the use of the dedicated virtual computer.

    • Now the Virtual Machine will acquire its network router for the LAN Host Configuration information, or you can assign an address appropriate static IP, mask, subnet, gateway and DNS server IP addresses in the configuration of NIC in the guest OS if you wish.

    Note: If this doesn't work for you, even if as described, it works for me, you may need to manually select to configure IPv4: and use a reserved in the meantime address previously mentioned with a 255.255.0.0 subnet mask while providing the appropriate Host router LAN Gateway and IP addresses of the DNS servers.

    Another problem can occur if using a WiFi NIC dedicated to the virtual machine, some WiFi routers will not fill several IP addresses to the same MAC address.   If this is the case for you, then you will have to use wired Ethernet for NETWORK adapter dedicated to the virtual machine!

    Hello

    There are a few things to look out for more such links. The following steps were made on W2K and W2K3, so that they are still applicable for you.

    (1) is the VPN capable to manage the packet being sent by site B MTU size, sometimes the MTU on VPN size must be less than the default value of 1500 set LAN. You can check this scathing your server with a command like

    ping f-l 1500

    If you get a message like "packet needs to be fragmented but DF parameter.

    You will need to reduce the size of the MTU TCP/IP in the client registry. Try to ping the server with a size of 500 bytes and see how it goes.

    (2) setting the server TCP/IP stack

    In the registry HKLM \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters, create or modify value DWORD of TcpMaxDataRetransmissions. By default, it is set to 5, but I recommend double this value to 10. The TcpMaxDataRetransmissions value is the number of retransmissions of TCP of a data segment without acknowledgement of receipt on an existing connection. TCP retransmits data segments until they are acknowledged or until the expiry of this value. Basically, when a client does not meet a package from the server, the server will attempt to retransmit the packet until TcpMaxDataRetransmissions many times. By increasing this value, you give the customer more time to answer on the server, which will help improve the flaky connections or connections with latency or higher than normal packet loss.

    HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\KeepAliveInterval and HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\KeepAliveTime.

    Both entered DWORD.
    KeepAliveInterval determines the interval between retransmissions keep until a response is received. If a response is received, the delay until the next keep alive transmission is again controlled by the value of KeepAliveTime.
    The connection will be broken once the number of retransmissions specified by TcpMaxDataRetransmissions is remained. KeepAliveInterval is set by default at 1000, which is one second.
    KeepAliveTime controls how many times TCP attempts to verify that an idle connection is still intact by sending a living package of the Dungeon. If the remote system is still reachable and running, he will acknowledge receipt of the living transmission to keep. KeepAliveTime is set by default to 7 200 000, or 2 hours.

    I hope this helps.

  • Comments can not ping host in a guest only network

    Hello

    I have a Win XP SP2 guest OS running in VmWare Workstation 7.1.0 build 261024 on a Win XP SP3 host OS.

    The virtual machine network is configured in the Config setting.

    Problem: Can't ping guest operating system host OS, but the other way works, I ping guest operating system of the host.

    Here are the details of config:

    Host config:

    IP address: 192.168.1.100

    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

    default gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Config of comments:

    IP address: 192.168.117.128

    network mask: 255.255.255.0

    default gateway: it is empty

    DHCP server: 192.168.117.254

    Configuration of Vmnet1:

    IP address: 192.168.117.1

    NET Mask: 255.255.255.0

    default gateway: white

    When I ping 192.168.1.100 (Host IP) or 192.168.1.1 (Default Gateway) of the customer (192.168.117.128), I get a message from Destination unreachable in both cases. Please advise on this issue.

    Kind regards

    Neon

    Welcome to the community,

    Since it is a host-only network, you can test only the vmnet on the host (192.168.117.1) adapter.

    If you want to be able to access the other IP addresses, you must configure the NAT is connected by a bridge.
