VMotion Port on the host

I have just a very quick question regarding vmotion on the host port.  I need to change the IP address on one of them and was curious to know if this is something that can be done on the fly.  If I put DRS on manual I am able to change the address of the port without disrupting things?  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you!

Hello

Yep, everything you need to do is value DRs manual then go to settings and change the default gateway and the ip address and vlan if need be the vmotion port

  • VMotion after putting the host in maintenance mode

    I would like a way to put a server esx in maintenance mode and let it automatically script vmotion guests to other hosts. It's about default behavior in the GUI, but when I use set-vmhost-maintaining state in the powercli, the host will just wait until all the vm is turned of / of are migrated manually, before going to interview.

    An easy way to achieve this, without loop through all the vm on the host?

    Hello

    Current behavior of the whole-VMHost (in vSphere PowerCLI 4.0) is an error report if it are turned off.

    Here's what the SDK documentation says on the migration of virtual machines

    Operation not directly initiate evacuation operations or power off virtual machines. However, if the host is part of an active cluster with VMware DRS, DRS provides recommendations for migration to evacuate VMS under tension. If the DRS is in fully automatic mode, they are automatically on demand. If the host is part of a cluster and the task is published by VirtualCenter with evacuatePoweredOffVms set to true, the task will not succeed unless all the virtual computers turned off are reregistered to other hosts. If VMware DRS is enabled, VC will evacuate VMS power off automatically. The task is cancelable.

  • Impossible to networking of bridge circuit (with teamed NETWORK adapter on the host)

    Hello

    I use VMWARE Workstarion (last version 7).

    I installed Windows Server 2008 64 bit on the virtual computer and setting up my NIC as "bridged". The problem is that I don't have access to the Internet and I can't connect to this virtual machine to a workstation in a network through the remote desktop utility.

    I tried to use the "NAT" networking and in this case, I have access to the Internet, but I did not see the virtual machine from the network. I asked for help on the forums and the solution was to use "bridged" rather than "NAT".

    My host (Windows Server 2003 64-bit) I teamed NIC , and this seems to be the issue.

    Does anyone know a solution?

    Thank you

    M.R.

    The default port for RDP (Remote Desktop) protocol is 3389, so what follows assumes that the host is not also configured to RDP still port 3389 is open.  In the virtual network editor on the dialog box entering card Port , you will define the host port: and port of the VM: to 3389 and make sure that no firewall rule to allow TCP connections on that port on the host and the guest.

    Go to the virtual network editor and VMnet8 select the NAT settings... button.

    In the NAT settings dialog box, click the Add button and fill the incoming Port map dialog.

    However it should be clear enough if you have any questions, just ask.

    And why should he?  A cRIO is really another computer.  You expect your PC to see serial ports to another PC on your network?  No, you wouldn't.

    If you really want the cRIO again the serial port of the PC communication, then you will have to apply on the PC that can communicate with the cRIO, usually over TCP/IP or network stream.

  • SG 300-28: duplication of port: loses the network connectivity of the destination host

    Hello

    We have two SG 300-28. On one of them, I have configured the port mirroring because a host behaves strangely. When I create the mirror, the host connected to the destination port is not available any longer, for example, it does not meet a ping. Port source packages appears on the port of destination, but no package intended to be the host itself. East - this behaviour right? I agreed that the host on the destination port is always accessible, as it would be without the mirror.

    Bernd

    HE Bernd,

    Yes. This behavior is just. That's how Port Mirroring works. The host connected to the Destination port loses its connectivity and it can act as a monitoring device using programs like WireShark (and monitor packages coming to and from the Source port (s)). All configurations on the destination port are substituted.

    Let me know if you need assistance,

    HTH,

  • VMotion between 2 remote hosts on the same site

    Hey everybody. I am new to a company that owns 2 Server vCenter, one in each data center, and we have a few servers standa-only (no not a cluster) in some places.

    All hosts are registered with several Enterprise. Let me draw the locations, you will have an idea:

    VCenter1

    -Datacenter1 (remote domain controller 01)

    * Host1

    ...

    * Host15

    2 VCenter

    -Datacenter2 (remote domain controller 01)

    * Host16

    ...

    * Host30

    -Data Center 3 (LAN)

    * HostLocal1

    * HostLocal2

    That make sense, as I have 15 guests on data center 1 and 2. We use 2 VCenter to manage the HostLocal1 and HostLocal2, but we don't group them together and we do not have vMotion among them, because all vMotion traffic must go to vCenter, then on the second host, is this right? Is there a way to prevent this?

    Let me rephrase: VMotion traffic would be like this:

    HostLocal1-> VCenter 2-> HostLocal2

    Or:

    HostLocal1-> HostLocal2.

    Wrote this question down make realize me that my hypothesis is incorrect, vMotion traffic has nothing to do with VCenter, activities stems from these 2 servers. Can anyone confirm?

    Thank you very much for your time.

    Let me rephrase: VMotion traffic would be like this:

    HostLocal1--> VCenter 2---> HostLocal2

    Or:

    HostLocal1--> HostLocal2.

    vMotion traffic runs only between the source and the destination host ESX (i). The assumption that the traffic flows via vCenter's vMotion is downright bad. vCenter is simply required to initiate/control the vMotion between the hosts, but it is completely left out the data transferred between the host to move the virtual machine.

    The assumption that you need a cluster for vMotion object or clustering automatically implies vMotion won't as well.

  • As part of the SAR cert is to have a NW separated between ESXi host required for VMotion or is it OK to use IP for VMotion management, in the execution of Certification tests.

    As part of the SAR cert is "have a NW/dedicated separate between hosts ESXi (on which we GOS) mandatory for VMotion or is - OK to use IP for VMotion management in the execution of Certification tests.»

    Note that the verification passed Test when you use management IP for Vmotion and without a dedicated connection to NW between ESXi hosts.

    Separate dedicated network interface cards preferred. No problem with the test after this change case.

  • The host cannot be admitted to the current cluster Enhanced vMotion compatibility mode.

    Hello everyone

    Here's the situation...

    I have:

    vSphere 5.1 Cluster with two 5.1 ESXi hosts and configuration VSA.

    vCenter Server running on a virtual Windows Server 2012 machine.

    Task: Transfer virtual vCenter to a physical machine.

    I have install the physical machine with Windows server 2012.

    Installed vCenter 5.5 (hosts Newer then the ESXi 5.1)

    VSA installed Manager (VSA Cluster 5.5)

    When go to VSA Manager I am introduced to the following screen...

    vsa_manager_24-10-2013 10-17-19.png

    Recover DOES NOT work!

    Full move operation DOES NOT work!

    It recognizes the Cluster AUV-> check availability (is online and OK)-> begins to create the Cluster VSA and it fails with the following error...

    Move the cluster host

    VSA HA Cluster

    The host cannot be admitted to the current cluster Enhanced vMotion compatibility mode. Under voltage or suspension of the virtual machines on the host can use the CPU features hidden by this mode.

    Could someone please help?

    Thanks to you all! This problem has been SOLVED as follows...

    • VCenter Server go to--> "C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\webapps\VSAManager\WEB-INF\classes".
    • Open the file "dev.properties" with Notepad
    • Change the line that says "evc.config.baseline = lowest" to 'highest = evc.config.baseline' and save the file.
    • Perform the SERVICES. MSC and reboot 'VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices'

    After that it of back in the VSA Manager and run it again 'Cluster of VSA recover'!

    Now, the wizard should be able to add hosts to the inventory, create the HA Cluster and add hosts to the HA cluster and configure Cluster HA.

    Done everything! :-)

  • Connection connection to the port series of comments on the application, the host

    I'm working on a project using Workstation 7.1.3 build-324285.  The application is a system running Windows XP as a guest.  The application has a CLI (Command Line Interface) hardcoded to use COM1.  I can reach COM1 by attaching a USB to adapter series and connection to the host and using a form of closure and an another USB adapter to series return to the homepage or another machine, where a terminal like PuTTY program is used to configure the embedded system.  However, I would use something like a named pipe to connect directly from Putty to Com 1 in the prompt without leaving a real interface series.  Is this possible?

    I created a serial port in the settings menu of the virtual machine and which mapped to a channel named (//./pipe/com_1) and which can reach in Putty, but of course this works if the guest OS is in debugging and is not my app on COM1.

    Thank you for your ideas and experiences!

    Thank you

    James

    First, you must remove the prompt thinprint - it uses COM1 if it is active.

  • Option named pipe to add the missing Serial Port to Linux host

    Hi all

    I try to add a serial port as a channel named for a kernel debugging

    the installer, but this option is missing (see screenshot1). There are

    However the options to add the serial port in the file/socket.

    The host is 64-bit Fedora 10 2.6.27.24 - 170.2.68.fc10.x86_64 running.

    Workstation is 6.5.2 build-156735. I found that the named pipe option is missing, regardless of the type of the guest OS.

    I had posted this last week.

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1267552

    and he said since as soon as I put in the following options in the marked .vmx file, a serial port option came (see screenshot2).

    Serial0.present = 'TRUE '.

    Serial0.filetype = 'pipe '.

    Serial0.filename = "/ tmp/com_1".

    I realized that I have a VM as the serial port server and others as a customer. So adding the option-

    Serial0.pipe.endpoint = 'server '.

    However, this option is breaking the vm configs (cannot start VM until I have delete this line).

    Please see the attached screenshot3 6.5.2 on Windows and you will see that there is a different and complete serial port setting to the research. You can easily set a virtual machine as a client/server side of the connection series on Windows.

    I would really appreciate if someone could give me some pointers as to why this difference between Linux and Windows, and how to get the type parameters for the serial ports under Linux Windows?

    My main goal for the purchase of workstation was to do kernel debugging using the serial ports, and now I'm totally paralyzed because of this. Pointers and suggestions are greatly welcome.

    Thank you very much
