VMware ESX Vmware Workstation

Hello everyone:

I have a question, I created 4 virtual machine in Vmware ESX using Vmware Infrastructure Client, I can open this virtual machine with Vmware Workstation?, what is the tool for this task? Thanks for your help.

Good bye.

Fernando.

Yes - you can do it - here I do not use any tools at all - just copy to the desktop

the method is to use the converter though

  • Move the VM from VMWare workstation 7.1 for ESX 4

I have a virtual machine created in VMWare workstation 7.1 (Machine virtual Version 7) and have copied to the data store on a host ESX 4 Update 1

I don't know why I still need to re - import the virtual machine with vmkfstools-i source/destination before it will boot as ESX 4U1...

Can someone shed some light on this?

    Hello

Have you tried using the Workstation 7 export feature?

By using this feature, you can create a consistent ESX VM or a virtual appliance which you would then be able to reload on your ESX.

In VMware Workstation, click file-> import / export

For the Source, you must select the Type of source: 'others '.

then, you look up your VM's vmx file.

Once in the destination Type, select VM Infrastructure VMware or Virtual appliance.

If you select VMware Infrastructure, it will ask you your server address VCenter or ESX + credentials and it will load it automatically.

If you select Virtual appliance, you will be able to create an OVA or file OVF that you can use to create a new virtual machine based on this device in VClient.

  • Running the VCS 4 and ESX 4 and computer virtual on a PC using VMWare Workstation 7.01

    Hello

I could not install on my PC Windows 7.01 vCenter. I was getting a "28035.Setup error". I was told that you can run vcs on a virtual machine, so I decided to create a machine virtual W2K3 just for my VCS. I have 1 VM ESX 4.0 and 1 VCS 4.0 VM on my PC. I'm using VMWare Workstation 7 to join my VM and vSphere Client on the desktop. How can I run VCS? Normally, it will show on vShere customer. Do I need to reinstall from the CD of vCenter? Any ideas? Thank you.

When I try to add my vcs on the domain controller server

I don't understand exactly what you are trying to add?

Basically, what you need to run a test environment is:

-a domain with DNS controller and - if you want - DHCP

-Member Server windows on which you are installing vCenter Server

-one or more host ESX (i)

On your client, you must install the vSphere Client and connect to the server vCenter Server by using your credentials of the AD. Using the vSphere Client, you can add hosts ESX(I) and your installation configuration.

  • VMware esx 3.0 in vmware workstation

    Hello

I am experimenting with using vmware esx 3.5 on my PC.  My PC is not vmware esx 3.0 compatible.  I've heard that I can install vmware workstation and then install vmware esx 3.0 inside vmware workstation.

Does anyone know how it works?  What type of vmware workstation with this work?  Is it complicated to do, that requires a lot of configuration?  Or is it simple?

  • ESX 3.5 if slow start on VMware Workstation 6.5?

Someone has something to boot the ESX 3.5 faster VM on VMware Workstation 6.5 all parameters in VMX file?  It seems too slow when start with 2048 MB of RAM for each created virtual computer.  I took about 30 minutes is this normal?

I also have one of this type of gear and it works very well and kicked around max 2-3 minutes.  You can check your settings and creation:

    1. create the new virtual machine with WS 6.5 mode and choose the option to create the virtual disk now so it can speed up your performance bit.

    2. remove the disk, sound, USB devices

    3. modify the "processor" just for VT VT/AMD Intel instead of two EPT and it give '2 vCPU' as well.

    4. close WS 6.5 and edit the .vmx file and place the monitor entry door back to "true", as shown above

    5. make sure that you have 'two vCPU' for both VMs.

6 image .iso 3.5 mount ESX of ROM and make installation took about 5 minutes to fill very quickly if you gave him 2-4 GB of ram.

    7. If not work try combination of "MMU" for hardware/software see if it works except that it must work.  Just check VT as well enable on BIOS.

Let us know what your results are like.

    Hello

I do not see that the version of the converter 5.5.3 has the opportunity to do

    Question:

By opening the VMX file in the 11 workstation will work?   someone did it?

as this comment by DOC from VMWare, in the 'internal' invited you will just be able to run 32-bit clients, never a 64 bit one.

  • What is the fastest way to convert VMWare workstation VM of ESXi?

    Hello

Was curious to know what is the quickest way to convert a VMWare workstation VM to a VM compatible ESXi. Is the method of standalone converter VMWare at the following ADDRESS of the faster method:

    http://www.networkinghowtos.com/HOWTO/convert-virtual-machine-VMware-Workstation-ESXi-vSphere/

Or is the method below faster? The method below mentions converter standalone is required for Workstation 8 VM but did not mention if it is needed for Workstation 8 AND HIGHER VM (ie: 9 and 10 workstation).

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1012258

My ultimate goal is to export on a USB key and then import on the ESXi instead of convert and copy it to the network server. I'm exporting to my 3 TB USB would be faster than the copy of the virtual machine on the network. Thoughts?

I think the second is the best option VMware KB: export of VMS in VMware Workstation to ESX/ESXi

As you can see you can export the VM and after import on the EXS (do not use personalization)

But uf you have Vmware Workstation 8 or higher, you can connect to the ESX Server and move the machine. If you are in the same local network and do it at a time of low workload, it would be the best option.

and should it be done before that Esxi is installed in the workstation 8?

or is the line of editing out of place now?

Line editing is not relevant for your situation, since your CPU does not have the characteristics necessary for the virtualization of hardware support virtualized.

If this server supports Esxi 5 bare metal because it was installed when I got it...

None of these processors will help.  You need at least a CPU E55xx for HV virtualized.

Option 2) now on this bare metal Esxi 5 with this current processor can I install 64-bit clients? (guess I'll try soon) but I would like to know... all ideas welcome...

    Yes, no problem.

should I just particularly setttings in ESXi5?

All the options for me to set up a laboratory for vsphere upward with this as is, or with the new processor?

IMHO if not I could use 2 of these physical servers if I can get another assumption, that he would need to be the same?

to try they full of features of vsphere. like HA, Vmotion etc.

No, he would not have to be identical.  No matter what CPU Intel x 64 of this vintage, or later would be compatible with EVC (well well, with the exception of Atom).  You need only an identical processor for tolerance to failures.

  • VMware workstation - PCI switch to OS to solve the lack of host riders invited

    Hi all

I'm quite new to VMware applications.

To implement PCI passthrough / directly access hardware PCI by the host OS

is it possible to just use VMware Workstation? or VMware ESXi OS is necessary?

    In this case:

-The machine physics processor and card motherboard BIOS supports virtualization.

-The host OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

-A PCI card is interrupted and got only Windows XP / Vista drivers (the two 32-bit).

-VMware Worstation 8.0 running in the host operating system.

-VM guest OS is Windows XP (32 bit).

Can I somehow configure direct access to the virtual machine PCI card / guest OS?

    I think that would solve a lot of pilot uncompatibility between 32/64 bit OS versions;

It would be useful to have work directly in the VMware workstation.

Or is it now possible only with OS ESXi and is rather simple to use here?

Thank you very much for the support.

    LD

VMware Workstation isn't compatible PCI Passthrough, you must run ESX or another product to make it work.

    Hello...

I followed what Sean Duffy suggested here:

    http://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/virtualization/VMware-Lab-Setup---a-virtualized-lab-for-testing-HA-and-DRS/

    Worked a treat.

I am currently running under workstation 8.

    • 2 * servers Windows 2008 (Server AD & VC)
    • A NAS
    • 2 * ESXi hosts

I then nest my virtual machines under ESXi hosts and can test all the features I need.

    My PC spec is:

    CPU - I7 2600 K

    RAM - 16 GB

Storage - 120 GB SSD for the VMDK. I was running on my NetGear readyNAS, but found the performance was a little painful, especially when turning on/off or suspend the VMs (UN).

My only complaint is that my VMWare Workstation expired evaluation license and currently waiting for my license after having passed my VCP. (even if it's another story/thread)

For my Windows servers, I have a technet subscription.

For ESXi, I'll have to re - install, but it's no biggie.

I would like to see VMTN subscriptions available, but again, this is another thread.

With VMware Workstation 7 you should not need to manually configure the .vmx file. Create a new custom virtual machine and select ESX as the guest operating system. This will configure the virtual material suitable as an E1000 network adapter...
