VMware tools msi package
Hello
Hoping someone can help me on this one.
We have Esxi 5.0 and citrix XenDesktop 5.6.
I know that if you install vmware tools on top of the XenDesktop VDA create you a world of problems because the VDA and vmware tools contain a video driver in the package. The vmware SVGA driver overwrites the citrix driver, a nd the xendesktop stops accepting connections.
The obvious solution would be to get a MSI of vmware tools and use an option do not to install the piece of the package SVGA driver. However, all I can find in the way of vmware tools for esxi 5.0 is an .exe file. Anyone know if there are for this verision msi package?
* I have had no success in the extraction of an MSI to exe,.
the below article goes on options to install VMware Tools, including the muffler.

VMware Tools * STILL * does not support Windows 95
I'm tired of this. I reported this problem for several versions of VMware. Guys actually you check operating systems, you say that you support?
Good, our guys installer described workaround for me:
1. download and install the Microsoft Windows Installer Redistributable for Win9x: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f
2. Mount the ISO image (winPre2k.iso in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation) tools. (Or just choose "VM > install VMware Tools" in the menu, which will automatically mount the image).
3. If autorun is enabled, it will trigger setup.exe, which will break. Ignore this. Right click on the CD drive, select 'Open' and then double-click on the file "VMware Tools.msi".

Impossible to uninstall VMWare Tools
My installation of VMWare Tools apparently did not succeed. I am unable to reinstall due to the partial installation and impossible to uninstall via Windows or the Mac facilities according to the instructions of VMWare. And now, I don't have access to Windows virtual network running. How to uninstall? Are these tools clean?

You can use The Windows Installer CleanUp utility to remove the VMware Tools MSI and then try to reinstall the VMware Tools.

WS 7.1.4 - impossible to download VMware Tools/Update
Hello!
Sorry for creating another post on this subject, I see many others have the same problem, but none actually provided what I needed.
When you try to update, it hangs on the connection ()https://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds).
I have improved my vmware installation (download manually), but for some reason any packages msi with the tools got an error during installation and has never been installed, now miss me all VMware Tools.
When I try to visit the following url:
https://softwareupdate.VMware.com/VMW-desktop
I get "File not found", and I tried this on several machines, on the 3 different inet-connections, all the same.
For some reason, I'm able to enumerate:
http://softwareupdate.VMware.com/CDs/VMW-desktop/WS
But when I enter the 7.1.4 - folder, I get "file not found".
So that someone knows the reason for this, or can give me the direct link to all the tools for WS 7.1.4?
I looked everywhere on vmware.com for download stand-alone tools... It could have been so simple
Thanks a bunch!

GPO to update the VMware tools
Hi all
I just finished a HUGE project in which I improved all our guests ESXi 4.1 U1 and updated all the server and all versions of firmware SAN. Everything was going well with no downtime involved. As huge as this project, the part much of time deals with the individual virtual machines. With more than 300 system VMs, all versions of tool VMware update will take a few months to complete! There must be a better way...
Has anyone built of Group Policy objects (GPO) to help the upgrade of windows guest VM? I guess the GPO could filter for virtual machines (perhaps with a search WMI on the hardware manufacturer?) and then silently install the MSI package and restart the VM guest. Finally, there are the necessary aspects for 32 vs 64-bit VMs?
Thanks in advance!
The best way to do that is with Update Manager. You can fix all the virtual machines by using the Update Manager. Have a look at the VMUM Administrator's Guide for a better explanation of the process.

How the news works of linux vmware-tools associated with the support of actions HGFS?
Just to clarify, if it is possible to get from VMware Tools for Linux Guest users qualified/developer/maintainer.
If memory serves me right, from 12 Workstation, VMware Tools for modified Linux related with the way it handles stocks HGFS.
Installation of VMware tools on many Linux guests, I always see the same behavior.
In some installations it build hgfs module, in others it seems fair to connect on vmhgfs-fuse executable. No module hgfs not charged in this case of the kernel then HGFS works as expected.
Exactly how it works under the hood, how to install VMware Tools/config, can determine whether it is necessary to build the module or just run vmhgfs-fuse?
Well, strange person, not even VMware guys come on this subject. IMHO is a really interesting thing, I almost always use shared folders between guests and hosts, it's so easy and simple WHEN IT WORKS.
The fact that no-one comes on this thread, show what I think always: products like workstation are profoundly less used, average people IMHO use 30/40 per cent of the potential software.
Then, with a few hours and a few Linux guests many kind in hand machines (work with tools in both modes, hgfs.ko or fuse), investigated and found how it works by myself.
This is what I found.
Recent versions of VMware Tools for Linux now seems to check the fuse package installed on guest system installed and when they found him, they try to use vmhgfs-fuse (formerly an Open-vm-tools executable) to mount hgfs actions without the need of the hgfs.ko module and so without needing to compile the module often broken kernel. For example, hgfs.ko thin build up to kernel branch 4.4 and it is broken again on 4.5.
The script vmware-config - tools.pl also seems power - also when it detects the fuse package - properly configure autostart for hgfs share.
That's all, and it's very useful for me. Hope it will be for others.

VMware Tools upgrade fails with the error

Furthermore, I also have a VM for 64-bit Ubuntu 15.10 who works with success the VMware Tools 10.0.1.357 (build 3160059).
I need to run both versions of Ubuntu for software compatibility.
Maybe you can try to get the packages of the latest VMTools from their repo upgrade server: filing of CDS - /var/www/public/stage/session-59/cds/vmw-desktop/ws/12.1.0/3272444/windows/packages

When I decide to use the style pension RHEL based tools vmwrae, I take a step back, he me reason not to do so, update-tools-NoReboot - RunAsync, pls correct me if wrong
I think that only works when we have the tools are installed using the mount traditinal CD
Also it is a big limitation, Vmware release new patches every 2 to 3 months, now, if we have repo in a central nas mount, we need to upgrade this repo often so if you said Chief revenue you must update etc, update-Tools is so much easier with update-tools is easier and does not need updated repo & updated recipes from the head (for that matter puppet thing), all entries or suggestion or am I missing something here?
Thank you
As far as I know, Yes.
RHEL based repository is intended for virtual computers that run a Linux guest operating system.
And Yes, you will maintain this directory.
The advantage is that you can install/upgrade VMware Tools in your Linux virtual machines in the same way as other SW packages.
The cmdlet Update-Tools works only in ESXI ISO files.

ESXi version: 5.1.0 1483297
vShpere the Client version: 5.1.0 1471691
recently added some additional linux VM to test, linuxmint 17.2 and 17.3 x 64 versions.
I went here, https://packages.VMware.com/tools/ESX/index.html to download an iso and got then confused as to which one in versions 5.1.x is good for me.
also, makes vSphere care if I install vmware-tools or open-vm-tools?
I could get some advice as to which we please. TIA
Hello
looking to this KB: VMware KB: product VMware correlating build numbers to update levels seems that your version of esxi is the closest
ESXi Update 5.1 2 2014 01-16 1483097 N/A then suggest you to download 5.1u2... I don't know if there are drawbacks, a newer version...
On open-vm-tools:
enables operating system vendors and/or communities and virtual appliance vendors to bundle VMware Tools into their product releases
For further information refer to
http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2073803
In this scenario vsphere client will display a 3rd part of the vmware tools...

VMware Fusion 7 and VMware Tools - leak memory in Debian comments
At some point during my updates from Mac OS X to Yosemite, VMware Fusion to 7.x and my Debian a guest to 8.0 "Jessie" on my 2012 Mackbook Pro, leaking memory of the Linux kernel is developed. If I follow these steps, then I'd lose soon about 3 GB memory of the core area.
- Install Debian Jessie in a new machine virtual de VMware Fusion
- Install open-vm-tools or VMware Tools bundled.
- Perform an intensive IO as operation simply cat/dev/zero |-c 1000000000 head >/tmp/test.txt.
- Smem - wtk and see ~ 3 GB memory under the dynamics of the kernel memory, benefit.
I opened the 15709682007 assistance request and the representative said that they will fix the problem in a future release. In the meantime, I have what seems to be a workaround for someone else that is affected. Basically, pulling packages from backports jessie seems to have solved the problem. This is based on the comments added to open-vm-tools.
- Add the Debian repository -backports jessie in /etc/apt/sources.list
- sudo apt - get update; sudo apt - get install t Jessie-backports open-vm-tools-dkms open-vm-Tools-Office
- sudo apt - get - t jessie-backports dist-upgrade (install kernel 4.1)
- Restart comments
A few quick thoughts:
1. If you have several virtual machines (or other programs) running on your computer host and VMware Fusion detects that there is memory pressure on your host computer, it uses the "balloon" (vmw_balloon for the latest distributions of Linux) Guest pilot to fly some memory of the guest OS. This memory "stolen" would appear as memory Dynamics non-cache kernel inside the guest. Running "sudo rmmod vmw_balloon" should release all memory climbed to the guest OS. Note that using the balloon driver generally improves the performance of the guest and host, despite the appearance of fear "used memory" inside the guest-"used memory" is just a thing of accounting that we had to use in order to change the priority of the memory between the host and the guest. It is not "used" in the conventional sense of the term.
2. I believe that recent versions of virtual hardware non-cache dynamic kernel allocate the necessary memory for SVGA and 3D features (display RAM, texture RAM, etc.). Disable graphic 3D acceleration or by reducing the amount of graphics shared memory if you are using a new version of virtual hardware (both in the VM > settings... > display) might help. Decommissioning of a virtual equipment as early (in the VM > settings... > compatibility) can also help.
See you soon,.

How to install vmware tools in a virtual machine running in the drive on an Ubuntu host?
I have a host of Ubuntu (Ubuntu LTS 14.04.2)
I have a virtual of Fedora (4.0.4 - 301.fc22.x86_64) and I would like to install vmware tools in the virtual machine.
When I select the player VirtualMachine-> reinstall VMware Tools...
I get a prompt in a box on the screen. It is said:
The following software are available for download:
VMware Tools for Linux version 9.9.3
What do you do?
X Cancel | Download and install
Of course I choose to download and install (kind of silly question - why I want to cancel?)
So instead of download the tools I want to install, it says:
Your permission is required to install an update to VMware.
Please enter the root password to move forward.
Password: __________
not serious. Now, he's looking for what root password? The virtual machine or the host?
I have try the virtual machine and it works-not "incorrect password... try again."
... well Ubuntu is not a root user. So, I try the password for the user with root privileges
"incorrect password... try again."
Then, he does not.
Not very satisfying.
The instructions that I found in my research right you will say to take the step to obtain the Tools package then (well, nothing of the rest of it is important if the tools are not available to me).
Suggestions? Advice?
The required password is for the host.
A workaround of functions is "sudo su -" of ubuntu host, then start vmplayer from the root prompt. You must browse the virtual machine since the user doesn't have a history of openness yet... but then there is no prompt asking for a password when you try to download the tools.
