VPostgres from VMware vCenter app 5.0 U1b

Hi guys

I would like to know if this VMware vPostgres database which now replaces DB2 incorporated inside of vcenter 5.0 U1b has the same boundaries as the embedded DB2 and SQL Express?

or 5 guests and 50 VMs limit has been removed using this new DB from Vmware?

Thank you very much

From the management perspective, it seems to have changed. See download and deploy the VMware vCenter Server Appliance

I tested VMware vSphere (ESX 4) and tried to connect to the internet for the Web Admin Access VM only.  I can connect the vCenter Server (on Windows) http Web Access features and manage the configuration of all virtual machines. But when I try to connect to an actual vm via MKS, I get an error MKS as ' unable to connect to the MKS: unable to connect to the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:902 server.»  The xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the ESX Server HOST and not the Server vCenter (which administers the host).   I have ports 80, 443, 902 and 903, on the firewall, open to point to the server vCenter Server.  When I'm on the LAN, I can do everything without a problem. Its only when I try to connect directly from the internet through our firewall I get the above error.

    Someone at - it suggestions?

    Andrej770,

vCenter Server transfers you to the ESX host hosting the virtual machine, and the remote console runs on port 902.

You want to go directly to the ESX host on port 902 through the firewall to connect to the Virtual Machine console.

While I can't give you a solution, I can share that I had a similar problem with an SRM installation.  Like yours, mine was a working facility which, for some strange reason, began to exhibit the same symptoms.  Start the service, in a second or two, stopped service.

I opened a ticket with VMware on the issue and in more than three months of back and fourth Exchange with various Tech support I have ever received a satisfactory answer on what caused it.  The 'solution' they gave me was to remove the database SQL RS and re - install SRM.  This 'solution' has worked, but if this question comes up, I'll probably have to back unpleasant, emphasizing the fact that they solve the problem.

I wish I could be more help, but that's it.  I feel your pain.

  • Updated VMware vCenter Operations Manager tools

Hello everyone, I just use Citrix Xenserver to VMware vCenter with Operations Manager 5.8.4.  I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this.  Is it possible to update VMware tools in the vCOPS TIME?  I just started my new environment with v8 of Veeam backup and he lets know me that VMware tools are outdated.  The only reason why I ask because, coming from Citrix Xenserver v6.2, whenever a device from the virtual computer is provided by Citrix, you're stuck with the tools provided in this unit until they update the device.

If it's good to update the VMware tools, it's as simple as opening the console to each virtual machine in the vApp and he tell the ' Install/Upgrade Vmware Tools?  Or is there a more complicated step?

    Thank you

    Brett

As far as I KNOW, the VMware tools upgrade is not recommended on vCops.

This breaks the device and you can ignore the message of the VMware tools obsolete.

  • VMware vCenter Server Foundation supports 5 reviews?

VMware vCenter Server Foundation supports 5 reviews?

Yes the vCenter Foundation supports view5.

Here is the difference between vCenter foundation and standard vCenter.

    VCenter Foundation: -.

One instance of vCenter Foundation will support for smaller environments (up to 3 hosts vSphere). With the features that has with vSphere (ESXi5) license as standard, Enterprise & Enterprise +.

    vCenter Standard: -.

Manages large-scale deployments of VMware vSphere (+ t0 1000 VMware ESX).

Apart from the above, both are fully included for the license and ESXI (standard, Enterprise & Enterprise +).

  • VMware Vcenter 5 upgrade Questions

Right now I have Esxi and Vmware Vcenter from version 4 to version 5.  A few questions:

    1. What is the easier and more average ordering to perform these upgrades?

2 should I have Vcenter loaded on a physical host, or is that to make a virtual machine?  I currently have it as a virtual machine, but think it might be a problem that he won't be available for upgrades of the host on which the Vcenter VM is on.

    1. What is the easier and more average ordering to perform these upgrades?

Make a backup of your DB vCenter, proceed with the installation of vCenter5.  Then, you can use VMware Update Manager to upgrade your ESXi hosts.  However, I would choose to do a reconstruction of working capital. vSphere5 is a major release.

2 should I have Vcenter loaded on a physical host, or is that to make a virtual machine?  I currently have it as a virtual machine, but think it might be a problem that he won't be available for upgrades of the host on which the Vcenter VM is on.

Virtual appointments, it is fully supported and you get the benefit of the HA/Dr

  • VMware vCenter service stops with size of DB SQL errors

    Hello

We run VMware vCenter 4.1 with 3 ESX hosts and VMs. 50 vCenter runs on Windows 2008 R2, SQL 2005 Express SP2.

Yesterday, our virtual backup failed, saying: it could not connect to the vCenter agent. When I have looged question, it appeared that he had stopped the vCenter Server service. Upward on the continuation of the investigation, it appears that the SQL Express database had reached 4 GB in size, which is limited, and this caused the vCenter fall service.

I checked some of the forum posts and have accomplished the following:

    • Define a retention policy of database for tasks and events, it is initially unchecked, but I checked and set it to 90 days in the beginning and now 30 days.
    • Found a script on the VMware forum called VCDB_table_cleanup_MSSQL_V4.X.sql that can clean the database. I put it to delete the old data (change of SET @DELETE_DATA = 1) 90 days and he kidnapped 130 000 + lines.
    • Performed a narrowing of the database & file shrink on the data file - I was only 9 MB back?
    • Performed a narrowing of the database & file shrink on the log file - it right back a little more, about 100 MB.
    • Changed the size of the log file of 460 MB to 1024 MB, in database properties > settings files.

However, even after all of the above, when I reboot the server, or stop and start the service vCenter, the following errors are recorded in the application log:

Can anyone provide another solution to this problem? We must be able to perform a successful backup!

For any help or suggestions appreciated!

    Ben

Due to the size of the database, the query may take time. I suggest that you let run and just be patient.

Another option is to upgrade to a version of SQL Server 2005/2008 'complete' (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/7960893), or - where this is an option for you - to migrate towards the currently experimentally supported (starting with vCenter Server 4.1 Update 1) version SQL Express 2008 which supports up to 10 GB per database. (see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf) Although there are 32 and 64 bit in compatibility matrix, it seems that there are currently problems with 64-bit (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1036085)

What is the difference between Standalone Converter and converter integrated with VMware vCenter Server, except that it comes integrated with Vcenter and another does not?

  • Error connecting to the server by using the Client VMware vCenter

When you attempt to connect to vCenter server using vSphere client, I get this message:

"a general error has occurred: authorize the exception."

However, if I log on the vCenter server locally and use a local Windows account in vSphere Client to connect to vCenter Server on the same computer - it works OK.

There is obviously a problem with what happens when you use active directory to authenticate a user who connects with the VMware vCenter server client.

    Material:

2 x Dell PowerEdge R510 (ESXi via USB)

    1 x Dell PowerEdge 2850 (vCenter)

    Current options:

    (1) use 4u2 ESXi and vCenter 4u2 directly from the VMware site.

    (2) use ESXi 4u1 (Dell customized) and 4u2 from VMware sitevCenter. (the ESXi Dell 4u2 is not available)

    (3) use ESXi 4u1 (Dell custom) Dell site and 4u2 from VMware sitevCenter.

    (4) another idea?

    Thanks for any help!

The version of Dell has the right ICD (but the vanilla version works as well) and the ready to run Dell OpenManage.

You can add this tool later or boot from the Dell U1 version and use VMware Update Manager to upgrade to the version of U2.
