  • Running vSphere Client (GUI) of USB?

    Hi all

    I have a simple question:

Is it possible to run vSphere graphical Client for managing ESXi host from a USB key/key? (Essentially, a standalone GUI not requiring no installation.)

I want to avoid installation on my laptop and all the paperwork and it will cause permissions...

    Thank you

    Stijn.

PS: I tried to find the magic combination of keywords in my search unsuccessful queries.

    Stijn,

I copied the "\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client" directory tree to a computer on which the VMware vSphere Client, was installed to another computer that had no front installed VMware software. Then I ran "\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher\VpxClient.exe" on the new computer and it works OK. So I think it will be possible to run the VMware Client vSphere since a USB device also. The directory tree has a size of 360 MB.

  • What are the advantages and disadvantages about installing vSphere 5 on USB

I am having trouble to make the iscsi boot and mused with a temporary workaround.
I want to install vSphere 5 on a USB key, boot on USB and when all the problems with boot iscsi are resolved, use vMotion to migrate the virtual machine to another ESX host.

What are the advantages and disadvantages regaring USB-install?

Maybe it's even better that run start iscsi.

    Hello

We have no difference between USB install and install ESXi on hard drive. all functions and features are the same. You have following additional configuration on USB Installer if necessary

    -Remote Syslog configuration

-Netdump configuration or change the coredump on hard drive partition by creating additional VMKcore on hard drive.

-Try to use the qualified USB key (refer to the hardware vendor documentation).

Not looking for any specific limitation other than mentioned above.

    Thank you

  • 5.5 ESXi USB devices and host.

    Hello community,

I'm just trying to connect a TOUGH USB drive that is connected to the host to a guest operating system and failed!

The USB device lists via 'lsusb' on the host, but I have no idea how to do to connect it to a guest.

I got tired by the "Parameters" and "Add Hardware" through the vSphere client and the USB device does not appear!

If I use the "Connect USB devices" button in vSphere client, I can only connect USB devices connected to the management station.

Is it possible to connect USB devices connected to the host?

I hope you can help me!

    Kind regards

    Matthias.

I just follow advice of jkopp on the change of version vhardware th in thread 5.5 of the ESXi hypervisor free Web Console .

I just changed to v9 and was able to add my USB HDD to the guest host, so if you have the same problem as me, just spent in HW version 9 and then, you are able to connect devices USB connected host!

    Kind regards

  • 4.1 pilot 3ware sas to work with vsphere 9750 5

Anyone know if the driver for 3ware-sas vsphere 4.1 (specifically for a 3ware 9750-4i) will work with vsphere 5?  I installed on a HP Proliant ML110 G6 starting vsphere 5 from a USB key, the 9750 is only for a data store.  I bought the 9750, assuming that it has been supported because he was listed as compatible for the 4.1, but did not notice that he was a pilot of vmware add-on.  I plan on the test, but I am concerned about the problems on the road, if there is a driver incompatibility which might not appear initially.  If anyone has any information on the question of whether the drivers of the controller are the same for 4.1 vs 5 it would be a great help.  Thanks for any information provided in advance.

I don't think it will be

    See attachment

I just tried to use my 9650 (which is really close to you) and it does not work

  • Cisco ucs with VMware 5 auto deploy

    Hello

In our lab, I test with 5 VMware and Cisco UCS. We run UCSM 2.0 (1 m). I am now to test the auto hand deploy. I have auto configuration to deploy in VMware and it works (first of all, I had some problems with DHCP on windows which is solved in version 2.0 of UCSM (q)). vSphere gets deployed to the blade. When the blade (vShpere) wants to connect to vCenter I get an error of vCenter has enough licesing for this action. I loaded a lot of low-income VMware. When I create a virtual machine, it starts perfectly and apears in vCenter.

I search on the internet for people who have the problem of the simailer, but could not find.

Some body the same problem our help me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Robin

    Robin,

This looks more like a VC related question (UCS) platform.  UCS has no effect on the functionality of licenses of the VC.

If the host does not connect to the CR, how are you VMs to "start perfectly and appear in vCenter?

    Kind regards

  • Questions about the displacement of 4.0 to 4.1 (move to the new facility, not upgrade)

We have an existing installation of VMWare with blades 11 HP running VSphere and VCenter.  Everything works 4.0 with SQL 2005 Standard installed locally on the VCenter server.  We have the blades in a cluster with HA active and have made some "adjustments" on the alerts and configuration, but installation is pretty basic.  We have only 5 members of staff who come in the VCenter system and really only two "primary" VMWare administrators

We seek to upgrade to 4.1.  I've been watching the steps we would need to back up the database, restore it on x 64 machine, installing VCenter, upgrade the database, etc..

What I thought was that since our installation is very simple, instead of "redevelopment" of our VCenter, what about just install a new VCenter & SQL Server, and then manually delete each blade in the old VCenter and add it to the news.

One of the advantages I can see for this is that we would go to a nice, clean configuration and the database.  Our system was installed about 1-1/2 years ago when we first bought ESX 3.5.  Since then, we have done several updates, software patches, VMWare and Microsoft, configuration changes, etc.  We are new to VMWare at this time there, so we made various changes to the configuration that we have learned.

What I found on the net, we can extract a knife of the 'old' VCenter and then just add it to the new VCenter 4.1 without interrupting the VM running on this blade, is this correct?  When the blade is added to the new VCenter, it will automatically add all virtual machines to the new VCenter inventory?

Another question I have is licensing.  We currently have our existing VCenter Server VMWare VCenter licenses.  Same license key can be installed on the new VCenter system while they are still active on the existing VCenter?

If not, can we install the new VCenter and migrate the blades using the trial licenses, then after moving the last blade, remove the old VCenter licenses and install them on the new VCenter?

After we get everything on the VCenter 4.1, we will then go back and reinstall VSphere 4.1 on each blade.

    Am I missing something?

    Your comments would be appreciated.

    Mike O'Donnell

Should be good to do this way. Disable HA and DRS - disconnect the old vcenter - attach to the new. In the end, run ESX update process.

You can test the move with a few virtual machines. Once HA and DRS disabled, evacuate sensitive VMs of the host that you want to test and move it.

    Good luck!

  • Using WHS and Windows 7 on the same machine.

I searched and discovered that WHS is running on Vsphere, but this

my situation and what I was wondering. I just bought these components:

    GIGABYTE GA-P55A-UD3P

    Intel Core i7-860

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4 GB model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

    ASUS EAH4350 SILENT/DI/512MD2 (LP) Radeon HD 4350

    LG Black 8 X BD - ROM 16 X DVD-ROM - model CH08LS10

Now I would like to run WHS on a virtual image and Windows 7 on

another. I will be ripping my blu - ray and DVD and I have plan of encoding

paste them into a mastroska or mp4 file. If I store the files on the WHS image,

There will be problems, their diffusion to the image of Windows 7 or any other

    another computer on the network?

Now, I know that the realtek cards are not taken in charge, is there a custom

d 8111, if not if I buy a new network card. I'll be able to

create a raid-5 on this forum and have whs recognize it? Can also

use multiple monitors in vsphere? I also wanted to install vsphere

on a USB key, which will affect in anyway?

    Thanks for any help.

Hello, yes you can easily run WHS and Win7 on a same machine, but...

I'm not sure that ESXi is the hypervisor desired for this project.  With ESXi, you can access ANY virtual machine console directly - all that the local display is the shell for ESXi very plain text mode.  There is the possibility to cross a second adapter to a virtual machine using vmDirectPath I guess, but there's always the keyboard and mouse.  Essentially, any race VM services network (only), or that the RDP access or other.

After what has been said, you could however plan to run Win7 host operating system (such as the computer is essentially just a PC Win7), and then to run WHS as a virtual machine in Virtual PC or vmware Workstation.

Anyway you'd probably want to 8 GB of RAM in the box.  Another issue is the affirmation of disc - is one of the most beautiful features of WHS Drive Extender, then you probably want to either assign virtually complete drives individually.  Balancing OF can create a good amount of disk IO when it runs every hour and could easily bog down the host if it executes all of the same SATA drive.

  • TSC: 2002815 on the ESX Console screen

HELO, I installed vSphere 4 on an IBM Blade HS 21 with 2 Intel Quad Cores.

Everything works fine. The only thing I got is a TSC red line on the ESX host screen.

    The line is:

TSC: cpu0:0 2002815) Init: 461: The Disable/No run run CPU is enabled for this machine.

Someone has this kind of line in the ESX Console screen?

Thank you for your help in advance.

    Hello

Make sure that your BIOS so that the host is configured correctly. This looks like it could be a BIOS problem as INtel-VT is not enabled. IBM will have the right settings for ESX.

  • The upgrade to vSphere in an environment of BladeCenter with 15 GB hd by blade

    Hi all

I have a test environment with a BladeCenter S chassis with 2 hs21 xm blades with esx 3.5 update 4 configured as a cluster 2 nodes. I would like to use this as a test environment for all update scenarios 3: update manager, update of host and new installation utility.

My blades have 15 GB of local disk on a solid space state double drive, now I know the minimum suggested for COS is 8 GB, 10 GB every, but my current layout of disc (the default installation of esx 3.5) will not put the COS. VMDK in local storage, which is something I don't like for future production upgrades of the scenarios. This is my current layout:

    Disk/dev/sda: 14.9 GB, 14999879680 bytes

    Heads of 64, 32 sectors/track, 14305 cylinders

    Units = cylinders of 2048 * 512 = 1048576 bytes

Device boot start end blocks Id system

    / dev/sda1 * 1 100 102384 83 Linux

    / dev/sda2 101 5100 5120000 83 Linux

    FB/dev/sda3 5101 11680 6737920 unknown

    f/dev/sda4 2688000 14305 11681 Win95 Ext'd (LBA)

    / dev/sda5 11681 12224 557040 82 Linux swap

    / dev/sda6 12225 14206 2029552 83 Linux

    14207 14305 CF 101360 unknown sda7

As you can see that my current local data store is about 6 GB, which is not enough. I was wondering if there is something I could do to make room for the COS. VMDK

Another curiosity I have is what happens if I do a new install of vSphere? He will be able to use this space to put the COS. VMDK locally? I guess it will be since I tested vSphere on a Virtual Machine with 10 GB drive and it worked.

I hope someone can give me a hint on how to set the COS locally without a new installation. Thanks in advance for your support.

Device boot start end blocks Id system

    / dev/sda1 * 1 100 102384 83 Linux

This is the boot partition, do not touch it

    / dev/sda2 101 5100 5120000 83 LinuxRoot or/var

    FB/dev/sda3 5101 11680 6737920 unknown

It's the VMFS partition. Can be deleted as long as it's empty (do not want to lose your virtual machines)

    f/dev/sda4 2688000 14305 11681 Win95 Ext'd (LBA)

Beginning of the extended partition. Cannot be changed unless you move all of the contained partitions also.

    / dev/sda5 11681 12224 557040 82 Linux swap

Swap partition, referenced in/etc/fstab with label, UUID, or/dev/sda5. Can be spoiled safely with as long as you update fstab to point to the correct swap ultimately partition

    / dev/sda6 12225 14206 2029552 83 Linux

    root or/var partition

    14207 14305 CF 101360 unknown sda7

    vmkcore partition, not critical

My suggestion would be to try to remove the vmfs partidion and expand your second linux partition to be large enough to hold the contents of what is in/dev/sda6. Then copy, for example, using rsync and put to day/etc/fstab to mount/dev/sda6.

Then, you should be able to remove the whole extended partition and reuse free space to build a new vmfs, swap and vmkcore.

Keep in mind that these are destructive operations - you can start making an image DD of the entire disk to another location, like a drive USB or NFS share on the network. In this way you can restore all of the disk using dd if = of = / dev/sda if you need to.

  • Can no longer access my Scandisk Cruzer Blade USB 4GByte

My Dell PC (XP SP3 operating system) still recognizes my Scandisk Cruzer Blade USB 4GByte, but now you invite "the disk in drive G is not formatted. Want to format it now?

I suspect that the drive is full, as I planned to remove a few files for some time - but not got around him. The last time it worked, I copied a file from software on the drive for a colleague. He took the blade, copied the file and returned it to me.

Is it possible that I can "secure format" the drive without erasing the data on it or another method of recovery/restoration of the blade.

Tried to win 7 & XP - no joy. Colleague (System Administrator) used a recovery software but can't find anything.

Technical support of Scandisk which provided a link to the software recovery LC company went through. Recovery software demo download, but once again failed to find all the files. Talked to their technical support which provided another link for some more advanced software. Once again no file is found. Talked with them and now confirmed her drive is clean and empty - somehow?

Their Filerecover software checks the data in hexadecimal block - all zeros.

Da vSphere 4.1 USB virtualizzato nelle VM e 2.0 e quindi shoes come prestazioni (Halter comunque più lento del reale).

  • USB to guest virtual mapping Instructions VSphere V5

    Hello

I need clear instructions on how to map a USB dongle to a virtual guest with VSphere 5.

I was hoping it would be as easy as mappping a CD but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If I insert the USB into a free USB port on the physical ESX Server and then access the VSphere client and select the "Connect to the USB device" icon, I have three options: 1 DigitalPersona Validity Sensor, 2 top Android phone and 3.  Sunplus Innovation HP Webcam HD.

Should I be selecting one of them? Should I do something else first?

Any advice would be very appreociated.

    Kind regards

When you click the USB button in the vSphere Client, it shows you the devices connected locally — not the devices connected to the server. See http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022290 for instructions to add a USB host device.
