I need to replace the internal hard disk for this old model of PC.  It came with a hard drive from 750 GB 7200 RPM SATA 3 Gb/s (Seagate).  What drive Western Digital hard (750 GB or 1 TB) is compatible with this computer?

The limitation of SATA is more like a heading of speed that allows the bus. (6 Gb/s) SATAIII allows real world speeds of up to 600 MB/s while SATAII (3 Gbps) allows speeds of up to Bot 300 Mbps connections. allowing speeds of over the current maximum capacity of any mechanical hard drive. Best performing discs can go up to 200 MB/s, so it wouldn't really matter if you use SATAII or SATAIII. You should be fine using either for the WD Black and you shouldn't see any difference in transfer speeds.

    Hello

  • Portege M400: Can I install a SATA Western Digital?

Can I install a Western Digital SATA in my Portege M400?

    I've tried and failed.

I can copy files CD for the new HD system, but the result is a failure to blue screen when the system boots.

I can't get a clean install of Windows XP to start same - HD is not recognized despite the use of the Toshiba SATA/RAID drivers from a floppy disk.

I tried to use Norton Ghost to copy an image of the HD (work) in the new HD, but which also results in a blue screen failure.

Is there something exclusive on the SATA?

The laptop will not work with the original HD?

A (larger) replacement Toshiba HD work?

    -don't

Turn off the laptop and the beginning he presses the ESC key.
On the third page of the bios (pg down), you will find the raid configuration.
I assume you actually already the RAID setting, but it is not really written on the HARD disk.

At a first remove the RAID and replace JOBD confirmation of the 1234 password.
Save the settings restart und. Re-enter the bios and change JOBD to RAID (new 1234).
After that your HARD drive works perfectly!

  • Satellite A100-906 and Western Digital 250 GB

    Dear all,

First of all, I want to offer my congratulations on your forum certainly useful. In regards to my laptop, I have a Toshiba A100-906. I've updated his memory to 3 GB and now I would like to upgrade its HDD as well. I think to buy a * Western Digital hard which has capacity of 250 GB *. I wonder, what is the maximum size of hard drive for this laptop and if it takes in charge the HDD that mentioned above.

    Thanks in advance
    STL of Greece

    Hello

Well it's not easy to tell if a 250 GB HARD drive would be recognized by the BIOS as Toshiba doesn't provide any details on the maximum size of disk HARD possible.

Is that a BIOS doesn t supports all sizes of HARD drive due to some limitations.

But in my opinion it is not possible to use the 250 GB HARD drive. I think that it s all just too big.
However, this is only my suggestion and maybe you should review it to make sure if it of possible or not.

Best regards and have a nice day buddy

  • Western Digital IcePack for the SSD mounting: problem to share

I liked the sled of adapter form factor of 2.5 to 3.5 Western Digital IcePack for my converted Momentus XT 500 GB disks hard/Intel SSD 2.5 "for proper installation in HP xw workstations.  Most of the jobs that I use have the standard plastic 3.5 "drive green HP monte that slide in case channels meant for this.  See PDF attached on the ice.  They are very solid and well built.

It turns out that are the two colors of the interface... red and green circuit board. Green only those that I have seen include a molded projection that is supposed to interface with a cavity on the back of some disks 2,5 "hard, that allows the transfer of the drive jumper pins hard interface in the background of the ice SATA connector (which is exposed for easy access, therefore).

I received only of briquettes with PCB red until today, and those who have not had this projection at the end of disk 2.5 "interface.

My SSD intel is not riders and so no mating recess and therefore not necessary for this part of the interface, but they cannot drag on the projection as a result.  My 'red' briquettes version would accept the SSD and 2.5 "hard drives with a jumper pin recess in all circumstances (but not be able to allow the manipulation of rider to end exposed sea ice).  My "green version" briquettes will can return disks 2.5 "with the cavity of jumper pin into the rear end of the car itself.

So, for me, red is the only type I want.  I did not use jumpers on the drives for years...  If you buy a guy on eBay who these new Western Digital be sure to communicate your needs for the Red version.  It is obvious through the sealed bags of mylar.

    Scott

CHANGE > > > > > > see below... There is actually a few briquettes with PCB being red and have the projection causing trouble, too, but they seem to be a small minority.

I've seen 2 WD briquettes with the Green circuit board, and each of them has had this additional projection that interferes with my Intel SSD to slip in the correct position.  You can see in the pictures that "bottom basket' of the SSD Intel a flower metal where the hard drive has a"container"recessed in the same region to take account of this protrusion.

I checked all my Velociraptors currently here, which are 2.5 "hard disks that are mounted on the plateau of the Western Digital factory.  All those who have red cards (without projection).  This is despite the fact that make Velociraptor hard drives have the recess that would accept the projection, as does the 2.5 "hard drive shown in the first photo attached.  Thus, it seems that for the WD Velociraptors does not feel the need to provide this Green type of physical interface.

The hard drives with the recess for the projection of mesh with the Green type perfectly, but they are also perfectly on the type of red.  So, for me, I would call the "universal" type red

If they make a red PCB with the offending projection included is something I can't answer otherwise that to tell you I have never seen one of these and have used over 20 Red types so far.

CHANGE > > > > > > > > > visitor, below, found a specific example of an ice floe that has a red PCB and a drive to interface with the projection.  Thus, they exist but appear to be a small minority.  See my last post on how to avoid the problem.

  • Western Digital external hard will not be displayed in the Finder or disk utility

So I am certainly not the most tech-savvy person ever, but I'm not completely helpless on a computer, and I'm trying to help a friend with pulling content on an old external hard drive Western Digital (product No: WDBABW0010BSL-00;) ( http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Portable-External/dp/B003DC8D8I).

Initially, I looked in the Finder for the hard disk appears, but nothing has ever, even after 15 minutes to be connected. After that, I went my utility application of disc to see if something has shown there, but again, no luck. I made sure that the micro-usb cable works, who he was and the hard drive itself did a light which is turn on, plus you can feel physically the disc rotates inside the hull to the touch on the case itself, so I know there is be able to get on the external hard drive.

From this point, however, I am at a loss for what to do next. I read some of the other help topics, but I have not found anything like that, but that works for me.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help!

Have you tried this WD drive in another Mac with the same results?

    How old is the drive?

I know that I had a problem once with a WD drive that had this type of behavior, and I could not use any utility software disc 3rd party on it to retrieve files or disk to repartition/format utility there. The drive is running but not visible anywhere on any Mac. My situation is that the drive had nothing of value to this topic, I used a top hammer so that nobody else could get something on it when I threw it in the trash.

  • 6 TB Western Digital (WD Black) HD performance

I recently upgraded to one of the most recent 4 TB WD Black drives and it works very well.

So, I bought one of the new 6-disc TB WD Black (WD6001FZWX).

When I install it in one of the bays in the car on the lap of my MacPro (2012 model), see disk utility but it won't boot.  Disk utility tells me that the "operation failed."

Western Digital said that this player should work in my machine.

    Anyone had this experience?

Even though my profile says I am running 10.11.1, I just applied the update to 10.11.2.  So, everything is up-to-date.

    Suggestions?

Do you use an original sled?

The depth of the holes in the disc are shorter because there is more things inside the car. At normal length screws may cause incomplete engagement of the contacts on the disk with the contacts of the logic board.

    have you tried another Bay?

If you do not see the data, you can not transfer it. Keep trying with Western Digital.

  • Western Digital hard drive

I have a Western Digital hard drive. 500 GB capacity. The other day I went to plug it in, and my computer said I had to format the drive in order to to use. I would like to know if there is a way to get access to the content on my drive without formatting, and therefore lose all my data. Maybe there is some software that I can get to fix this problem.

    Hello

    1. what version of windows are you using?
2 have you tried to connect the hard drive to another computer?

Test the Hard drive on another computer, if it works, try to save the data and then format the hard disk.

Try to do a Chkdsk Scan. The scan will look bad system files and will attempt to fix them, if possible.

    (a) click the Start button.
    (b) type cmd in search results.
    (c) click the cmd file and select "Run as Administrator".
    (d) in the CMD window, type chkdsk /f /r and press the Enter key.

Note: Chkdsk /f /r enables chkdsk check the volume for errors bad sectors on the physical disk and file system. Chkdsk /f /r schedules itself to run at the next system reboot, by adding an entry in the BootExecute value.

If the above steps fail, you may need to contact the manufacturer for assistance:

  • Western Digital external hard drive to backup impossible after installing the MS Fix It program

I installed MS difficulty it program and since then, I had backup problems with my external hard drive WD (Western DigitaL).  I've used this for many months to back up my entire computer, using my Norton program, and now I get the message that there is a problem "with the back up.  He asks me to check if the device is connected, (it is of course!).  I also noticed that my external hard drive has been changed to 'F' to 'G' after I installeld Fix It.  That's fine, but WHY?  Is it considered a CORRECTION device?

WHAT'S PAST AND HOW I CAN GET THIS BACK TO NORMAL, SO I CAN EASILY BACK UP AGAIN? It's very frustrating.

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • To access the files on Western Digital MYBOOK 500 GB external drive

I'm on a PC running Svc Pack 3 Windows XP and had a Western Digital MYBOOK 500 GB external drive connected works very well and
then I moved my PC set-up to another room and my problem began.

When I turn on the system detects now the MYBOOK so I sent a message to Microsoft and received the following response:

A computer that is running Windows XP cannot detect a USB, an Apple iPod flash drive or an external hard disk drive.

YET, if I unplug the power of the MY BOOK and plug it back... it is now fastened on my system than the 'G' drive and I can open it, see the directory of the file but cannot open or access data.

Also, once it is detected, I get the message balloon of text to the following address:
    Windows - delayed write failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file G:\$Mft.
The data has been lost. This error can be caused by a failure
your network connection or computer hardware. Please try
    to save this file elsewhere.

And when I click on a specific file I get another message
The path for the file name G:\1Dons (2) \5Funstuff (2) \cmptrguy.ppt is not valid
Please check that the path and the name are correct.
"WHAT CAN I DO TO HAVE ACCESS TO THESE FILES - IT ' S ALL MY CURRENT WORK GIRLS ACTIVE

Looks like you have a corruption of the data on your disk/file system.  Once you are able to mount as a drive letter, try to perform a check of the disk drive.  The procedure accelerated this:
Double-click "My computer"-> right click on the drive-> properties-> tools (tab)-> click 'Check now'--> check that the two options-> start.

    or follow the procedure here:
"How to perform disk error in Windows XP check"

Please keep in mind that it can take more than two hours to perform according to the size of the disk and the amount of corruption and if they're using USB1, 2 or 3.  In cases where corruption is bad, sometimes this can make matters worse so if you can back up all the files in the first place, do.

The one and only true definition of a 'Important file"is"a file has been saved.

    HTH & good luck,

  • BSOD when establishing an external drive of 3 TB Western Digital Elements on Win XP SP3

I have a Dell Latitude E6400 with Win XP SP3 and I just bought a 3 TB Western Digital Elements external drive. When I plug it into the USB port, it seems that the drivers are about to install as they would with any new material, but I get a BSOD immediately.

And what is 'exactly' the bugcheck BSOD error message?

Windows XP 32-bit only recognizes the MBR disks and MBR disks have a size limit of 2 TB because of the limitations of partition table.  Greater than 2 TB of disk uses a style of partition GUID partition table (GPT) and 32-bit XP Window does not support this style of partition.  You will need get a Western Digital driver to use this drive with Windows XP.

  • Western Digital not recognized XP

Original title: Western Digital does not not on the laptop Gateway for Windows XP!

Well, I have a Western Digital MDL # WD3200D032-000, it worked fine two days ago and now it won't even recognize it on my computer. I put the cord into the USB port and it is made the sound it is attached and then nothing, no loading and blue blue ring does not turn as it allows some glimmers. I have Windows XP, there was no error message, I run AVG for virus analysis. Now, someone told me to use Microsoft It Fit, I've done that, nothing happened, so I just turned off everything all night to see if he was running just to many, but that no longer works. What can I do? Is everything I've worked on this WD and I need to know I can get it back.

    Thank you
