    Hi all

I came across this post in discussions of woskstation and its exactly the same question that I see:

    http://communities.VMware.com/message/1509413

The problem is that I can't turn off the VMware USB Service on my host machine, because there is no. Anyone of you experts can tell me how to disable this in VMware Server please?

Or do you want to know what part of VMware Server may be in conflict with my stick to wide band and advise me on how I can have as much mobile broadband and vmware server running on the same host machine.

    Thanks in advance

  • Should what form of VMware I use for my new server?

    Hi all

I'll make the leap to Windows 2008 Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Server I did some recent tests and there really is a dramatic improvement in the response from the server web time when hosting on a Linux server.

This server will be a guest o/s unique dedicated to OTRS and SugarCRM CE accommodation for 10-20 agents/users (more than 5 clients OTRS at any time). Not a huge demand but still enough to run a little slugish under our old current windows server.

The new production server will be:

    Dell Poweredge R300

Quad Core Xeon L5410 (2.33 GHZ)

    8 GB RAM

My question is: Baring in mind this server will be for a single guest, what form of VMware should I launch? I imagined that I would use Workstation 9 running on Ubuntu desktop and the prompt to be Ubuntu Server. But a person once I suggested that I use ESX/ESXi, even if I don't use a VM on it as it is easier to backup or migrate to another. material

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The free version is the exact same software as the paid version is - when you apply the free license it will Crown just the functionality of the ESXi host and if you decide to take a paid for the license, that you can simply apply the license and characteristics will be open.

That said, you can still remotely manage your hosts and virtual machines, it is running, take snapshots and backup virtual machines with the free version

  • What to do after downloading VMware Server

    Hi everyone, new guy here.

I downloaded 580 MB vmware-server and even installed.  It appeared to install correctly and place a vmserver on the desktop icon.  However, I thought I could just click and vm would lead me through the installation of an operating system.  Not the case.  He went to a web page where he asked me a username and password.

Should not be whatever it as a valid user name or a password.  Earlier, I had received an email from Vmware services customer, said whaich my emails has been (and it said my correct e-mail address) and my password was (and he gave me my password).  Howevere, when I clicked on the icon of VMWare (after installation), it led me to a web page (after accepting a bad certifique) who would not accept the name or the password.

    Yes, cost-effectiveness issues:

What should I do after installing VMware_server tihe?

How (and why) can I connect the web page?

Thanks for the help in advance.

    Bob

There are little interest by giving the guest 4 GB unless she needs. My largest VM XP that is running Outlook, IE, and other productivity applications, is only defined for use 768 MB he sits very comfortably in. He was originally to 512 MB, but it is weaker and the page a bit. You want enough memory allocated so that the guest does not work out/page/swap but not as long as he's not getting used while VMware may not be the memory for it unless it is actually needed (on Linux at least).

  • Replacement for VMware Server 1.0

    Hello community

I'm running a few hosts CentOS with VMware Server 1.x 5.x various hosts as CentOS virtual computers, the legacy Netware servers and some Windows machines.

Now I need to put in place the new hosts with CentOS 6.x to enjoy some of the things fantasy that comes with this new major release (especially things like the handling of SSD and BTRFS).

However, VMware Server 1.x only installs on CentOS 6 and so this combination is not an option.

VMware Server 2.x (even if it would not work what I do not know) is a no-go, I don't like the web directors at all and would really like to have an administration like the VMware Console tool, which used to be the administrative tool for server 1.x.

I would not mind spending the money for it, so there is no need to be free (business environment), but thousands of dollars of course aren't in the budget for it.

However, many VMware products seem to be a mess for me (sorry...) and even worse, they all seem to be a bit inflated.

What I choose today, VMware Server 1.x was exactly the thing I need, without all the bells and whistles, subsequent proceeds provided with, but if possible with a platform independent (Linux + Win) administration tool?

Is there any "weight light server grade product of virtualization" VMware plus, which brings the necessary basic features and runs on modern linux guests?

I have already evaluated VirtualBox and KVM and got both work, however, I have used VMware now for more than a decade at least I want to ask the community for recommendations before moving on to a completely different virtualization platform.

Thank you to for your advice!

Then take another look at work station - there now the abilitry to function as server hosting VMs - or you can go to the bare metal hypervisor and run ESXi that will install directly on hardware, eliminating the need for CentOS - there is a free version available that as well.

  • VMWare Server 2 - Pb communication between hosts

    Hi all.

I just install VMWare Server 2 on my laptop to perform tests. I read 4 virtual machines but to my surprise none of them ping the other. My Vms do not communicate with each other.

The 'network' main pour 4 virtual machines is 'host only '.

Is what someone would have an answer to LUN pb communication?

Thank you for your answers fast.

-host only: allows the VM to communicate only with the host (the one that contains the VM).

-Bridge: allows the VM use the physical host computer card, as if it were a network bridge. This allows to use the VM on the same subnet as the MPhy. The MPhy and VMS can to communicate without problem as if there was only some MPhy on the same subnet.

-NAT: it's the year translation system.
This means that the VM will not be on the same sub network as the LAN MPhy.
And the of the VM in a single @IP of the side physical LAN of the transforms the @IP of the gateway NAT (principle used when you have several computers connected to a * Box ADSL which has only a single Internet @IP).

I think you Pourrat find the answer yourself.

  • updated images of VMware Server to use in ESXI server

    Hello

I just have a lot of virtual machines that has been configured and used by vmware server 1. Now, I'll use ESXI server, when I downloaded the images to the esxi server and tried to run, I had a mistake in VMDK. Is it possible for me to change VMDK and use these old images or I need to reconstruct images from scracth. also, is there any availbale tool to update my old images to use ESXI?

    Thank you

ESXi does not support the scattered disk format used by VMware Server by default. What you can do is to follow the recommendations of weinstein5and use VMware Converter or convert the hard file in a supported format (zeroedthick, eagerzeroedthick or thin) using the vmkfstools in ESXi command line tool.

Assuming that the virtual disk has no snapshots, you can follow these steps in order to maintain the virtual disk file name.

    • create a 'old' subfolder in the folder of the VM on the ESXi host and move the hard files in this folder
    • Basic virtual machine folder run for example vmksftools old-i /hard-d thin vmname.vmdk
    • If the virtual machine lights without problem, you can remove the "old" subdirectory

  • VMware server 1.0.3 on OpenSuSE: plugin Vmware is not available

    Hello
I am currently evaluating hyperic as a surveillance system for our 250 + growing virtual machines.
I have download 3.0, installed the agent on one of the servers but did not get any info on virtual machines. I came here and it seems that there are some problems and a bug filed by someone else. so I downloaded sigar - 3.0.4 and updated the directory of the KDP. I'm still not anything on my virtual machines and all I get is VMware controls library not available.this is an extract from the log on the server:
    at java.lang.Thread.run (unknown Source)
Caused by: org.hyperic.hq.measurement.monitor.LiveMeasurementException: error Plugin: control VMware library is not available
    at org.hyperic.hq.measurement.agent.client.AgentMonitor.getLiveValues(AgentMonitor.java:224)
    something to try?

OK, libvmcontrol-helper that is missing is the problem.  I don't know exactly what it is, but vmcontrol64.so expects it to be there.  I can reproduce the problem with the command chmod - x libvmcontrol-helper.  How did you install VMware Server?  I have always used the. tar.gz installer from vmware.com, when unzipped the file is located here:
    VMware-server-distrib/lib/bin/libvmcontrol-helper

You may just be able to copy this file without making a complete reinstallation to work things out.

  • Cannot save the virtual machine in VMWare Server 2

    Hi all:

I created a VM (12.1 OpenSuSE 32bits) in VMWare Workstation 7; then I copied it to a host VMWare Server 2.

When I try to save the virtual machine via the web, the server fails (or at least interrupts the response from Web page), so I tried to save it via command line.

After searching a bit I found this:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1006160

The question is now that I can't find any vmware-cmd anywhere, and when I run vmware-vim-cmd I get the following error:

    vmh2: / data/vmachines/postgresql-box # vim - vmware - cmd solo/registervm /data/vmines/postgresql-box/postgresql-box.vmx
    Connection failed: vim.fault.NoPermission

So I'm stuck... someone can help me?

BTW: what is ESX, ESXi and what version of ESXi is included in VMWare Server 2?

    Thank you very much

    Luis

I can't tell you exactly what are the causes of the problem. What I would try (a solution) is to create a new virtual machine in VMware Server with the same specifications as the original one, then copy the two files hard in the new virtual machine folder and edit the .vmx file for the new VM 'OpenSuSE - 12.1 - cl1 - 000001.vmdk' use as its virtual drive.

  • VMware Server 2 migration

Hello group, we set off on virtualization, we used until present time server 2, checking on these pages, I've read about free vSphere.

I downloaded ISO and the customer. When you start to use it, it says I have 60 day trial.

Can please briefly explain you what is free and what is not?

    Thanks in advance.

    FM

The basic vSphere 4/5 hypervisor is free, who has at least as many features as VMware Server 2.

However, you must still apply for a license (which is free) to get rid of the warning of 60 days.  Follow these steps:

  • Installing the server on VMware server ESXi

    Hello

Im trying to install esxi iso file in a VMware Server (in my laptop with 4 GB and windows 7 prof). I have created a virtual machine and tried to proceed with the installation. Initial measures follows and ends with Esc - repair-installation of the screen. In this screen im not control keystrokes at the keyboard and mouse n and cannot go any further. I found in the net that this method will work for purposes of practice. Can someone help me. ?

    Hello Pjo

For your question, I understand what you are trying to install ESXi on your laptop to test / learning object. I also suppose that you try ESXi 4. ESXi 4 requires 64-bit processor. Your laptop should also support virtualization. To make sure that your laptop supports virtualization, go to configuration and find what is called VT and then activate it if it is not yet enabled.

Once you have completed step abvoe, download & install the latest version of VMWare Workstation. Then create a new virtual machine, assign them to less than 2 GB of RAM, and then try again to install ESXi 4.

I believe that this will help you to start with. If you have any other questions feel free to write back to me. And if you think that this answer is correct, please mark correct. If in case it is not correct, but has been useful so mark has useful

    Thank you very much
