White gray screen of death

A recently obtained a Rev B G3 iMac, updated the firmware once so I could try OS9, and two days in the HARD drive made this death rattle and crashes hard

Wonderful.

So I order little ram from OWC (2 x 256 MB)

A 128 GB SSD home (very disappointed because they include an adapter + SSD and it is not just a SSD IDE or made to be more integrated.)  Too expensive for what it is),

and a new battery of LANDAU

Repinned new fan Cooler Master 92 mm to replace the old (works perfectly)

Starts and... gray screen.  No folder, nothing.

Try resetting the NVRAM with Command-Option-P-R and he did once successfully, but no change in the results.

Try Open Firmware with Command + Option + O F and it will start but the CRT remains off and the power light stays orange.

NVRAM later tried and he won't even be deceived, forced to do other ways to become more involved.  Still no change of result

Try holding Option at startup, nothing.  Tried holding C at the start, nothing.  Tried holding O during the boot since I heard some Macs to bring up the boot with it instead, Manager nothing.

Tried 2 other keyboards, nothing.

I even tried 2 other internal drives CD/DVD slim just in case I got fried somehow the original drive 24 x CD, nothing.  External hard disk is not no longer works.

Recognizes to all readers and keyboards, powers, them and the readers try not seeking, still no results.

going to try different hard disks and resetting the ram, replace it with the original of the ram, etc., but hoped someone had an answer for this miracle.  Hope that I didn't somehow make fried logic board or screw up somehow.

I was hoping to keep this one close to stock (at least that I found one of these Harmoni 600 mhz cards miraculously) and a slightly less desirable another iMac G3 as my project to empty out and replace internal components with a Mac much more modern (Apple would be cool with this right?  Wouldn't a Hackintosh I think)

If there is no operating system on the new drive, it won't start (with the exception of the optical drive with a Mac OS installation disc).  Startup Manager is accessible by pressing the Option key during the boot, not the O key. I don't remember if the iMac G3 tray-loader has Startup Manager.

I think you've changed too much at the same time, so it is difficult to find the change that caused the problem.  Try to put the original RAM until make you it work.  Some of these original iMacs do not work with the RAM (unofficial) max of '2 x 256MB.'  Put the original optical drive, if it was working before.  If you have a standard IDE hard drive that is less than 128 GB, it would be a good idea to install it to rule out the possibility of an incompatibility with the SSD + adapter.

What installation disk of Mac OS that you are using the optical drive to start?

NOTE: Once you are able to boot from a Mac OS installation disc, the iMac G3 tray-loader requires the startup on the internal disk drive to be on the first 8 GB of disk space.  Due to the older IDE used in these iMacs controller, only the first 8 GB of disk space are available during the boot sequence.  After starting (when the full operating system takes over), the iMac may access up to 128 GB.  You need disks larger than 8 GB partition as the first partition is part of the first 8 GB of disk space.  A security dimension to the first partition is about 7.5 GB, with the 2nd partition using the rest of the disk space.

  • OSX Update 10.11.3 iMacs causes gray screen of death Mid 2011

    Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums of apple, so I don't know exactly if it was to go to the right place. This isn't any question that it's a PUBLIC service announcement.

Basically, a summary of my post is that OSX update 10.11.3 causes both 27 "& 21.5" mid 2011 iMacs is not start properly. After the update installs and the iMac restarts, the startup sequence seems fine, showing the Apple logo, then the progress bar. However, when you expect your login screen to appear, instead you are greeted with a dark gray screen and movable mouse... and he the system is still a little sensitive. If you press the keys on the keyboard you hear the sound of "bum" as if you had to press a key when you weren't supposed to, and if you press the power button (do not want) the system will switch to standby (and wakes up if you press it again). So this isn't really frozen, it's just nice... it.

Puzzled, I went to Google, hoping to find someone with a similar problem. I have not found much. I found some people with similar problems (gray screen is a bit more general), but I have found others with 27 "mid 2011 iMacs have this problem (links below :))

Cannot install the update of El Capitan 10.11.3 (Stuck in gray screen)

iMac mid 2011, gray screen of death!

gray screen with the pointer to the login screen

What I read, some iMacs have been recalled for the failures of graphics card, and that's what some people have responded to in the positions as a possible cause. (This is also what comes mainly from back when you search for "27" iMac screen gray) But this doesn't seem to be the issue here. The above posts are fairly recent and seem to coincide with the update 10.11.3 put in place, and they are the same symptoms that I have experience, but with no working solution.

Once I have restore my backup time machine last before updating 10.11.3 is installed, the system works perfectly. Unfortunately, if you have not a backup time machine to restore, it seems that reinstall OS x is your only solution (until you reinstall the update)

I'm not an expert of OSX, but I tried everything under the Sun to try to get the system to boot properly again, like resetting the PRAM & SMC , single-user mode, safe mode, none of this works. The system does not just start.

I don't know if this has affected everyone with mid 2011 iMacs, but I just thought I'd let people with iMacs 2011 who are having problems with this update that you are not alone, and I hope that someone at apple can be seen. If you have an iMac 2011 that has not been updated to 10.11.3 again, I will not do.

    Thank you

It is not material, it's software.

    Hello

a few months before I could not suddenly start my macbook more. He had the white screen of death and absolute no functionality in addition to its departure.

A few days ago I got the macbook, open/close a couple of times so that it is operated and suddenly the keyboard LED lit and the screen

turned black. I realized that he really started and connected to the external monitor. everything works fine now in addition to the internal display.

I run Apple Hardware Test mode clamshell, but extensive testing even said that there is no material errors.

  • Satellite A350 - white screen of death

    Hello

Recently, I broke my screen in a fit of anger and sent him to Toshiba repair.
They replaced my screen. It was a month ago.

I installed windows 7 3-4 days ago and it worked fine.
I opened my laptop one night to discover a white screen empty.
After turning it works, take the battery and the white screen remained, and then it appeared randomly with system restore options

I restored the system and apply a fix from microsoft to counter the supposed error windows 7. It did not work.
White screen when I put the laptop to sleep (the laptop stop) or stop it.

The screen appeared again yesterday and I left it all night in the hope that this would change.
My sister took out and put back in the battery and a screen appeared asking how you would like to start windows.
I started windows then reinstalled Windows Vista using a mirosoft installation disc.

After the installation of AVG Antivirus it tells me to restart.
I restarted the laptop and instead of the toshiba logo on the white screen of death appeared.
He stayed for 10-20 seconds then my laptop started.

I looked at this article (http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2008/04/13/laptop-lcd-screen-turned-white/) and suggested that the screen may have problems. I should send it back to Toshiba?
    Can someone provide diagnostics?

    My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450 processor
    2.13 ghz
    4.00 GB RAM
    32 bit OS

So basically, I have a white screen randomly when I reboot, turn on, or put the laptop to sleep. If he get's a strange thing to many factors. I don't think that its my OS because what happens on Vista and Windows 7

Please help as much as you can. I didn't wan't to take it in for repair as it can cost money

    Hello

For me, it looks like hardware problem.
It s hard to tell if it s graphic card issue or display problem.
But if the display has been replaced a month ago, then I would recommend contacting the guys again. I mean the part could be faulty again and my knowledge, replaced parts are covered by warranty for a short time then perhaps that the warranty would cover it once again if the display is faulty

  • White screen of death. MacBook Pro. Help, please!

Hello! I desperately need your help.

So I was with my mac, all normal until one day it freezes and I m to force close.

Unfortunately when I tried to turn it back on, it's just stuck in the white screen of death. Most of the time, is just white screen without logo or an image folder or anything like that.

I know that my computer is alive because sometimes (not often), the apple logo and I m able to try reinstalling OS X (but then it crashes again), but most of the time is just a white screen. I tried most of the entries and they don't do the trick (Cmmd + R, shift, etc.) Most of them Don t work and Don t anything, except for the PRAM zapping entry that is Cmmd + Option + R + P, but after resetting, it still shows just the white of the screen most of the time.)

Is there a way to fix this?

    Thank you very much.

If you can get to single user. Order S at startup, you can use the command fsck - fy, then click on enter. If return it Mac or (your user name) change of command run again until it come back OK.  You are unable to recover, R command? or safe mode, the SHIFT key down?  If you get something different during race one user post. You have a time machine backup or whatever it is?

  • Just as a reference: how to FIX the annoying 'White Screen Of Death"with Silverlight and"Access denied"error with computer management.

Well, I just hope that someone who has met these two mistakes will find my dose. It might save a lot of pointless research on the net.

    SYMPTOMS:
-When you try to open a Silverlight application in your browser (Firefox, Chrome, IE, etc), your browser displays only a white area. When you right click on the white area, you can click on the Silverlight properties.
-If you try to start "Computer management" by clicking on the 'My Computer' icon and select 'Manage', you get the following error: 'access denied '.

    CAUSE:
The following errors are usually the result of a bad environment variable. In this case the "windir" environment variable does not work correctly. You can try running the management of the computer to start > run and entering:
    %windir%\system32\mmc.exe/s %windir%\system32\compmgmt.msc

Notice the between the characters of percentage windir environment variable. If you run the above code, you will probably get an error saying that MMC cannot open the file. Look closely at the path, it's back!
You will probably find any % somewhere.

What actually happened here is the variable windir made reference to another variable: systemroot
Why this creates problems, I'm not sure. Also, I don't understand what made then variable windir change.

    SOLUTION:
-From your desktop or Explorer: right-click on "My computer" and select "Properties".
-Click on the "Advanced" tab and then click "Environment Variables".

    http://pcauthorities.com/images/advanced-system-properties-XP.jpg

-Did the windir variable. Together to "C:\Windows" do not think that it is already set to "C:\Windows", because windows then tells you. Double-click it to know for sure.

-See, I told you! Change this to "C:\Windows".

    Hi Jooch,

  • Variation on the white screen of death - Sansa Fuze.

I get the white screen of death, but my problem is unique in this sense: I can turn on my rocket, browse my menu and enter in the subsections of the menu, for example, Mian Menu > settings > Panel configuration, but when I click on an option, say, format, white screen, reboots of my rocket, and the screen is frozen on the logo screen.  Help, please

Sounds beyond any help that is initiated by the user (reset, format, firmware, re - install, etc..). I would like to, or send it back if you are in the window to return to your dealer. If this is not the case, call SanDisk directly to a likely RMA replacement if it is less than 1 year old.

  • Boots Vista black screen with white cursor and nothing else (Black Screen of Death)

After a download from Microsoft update last week, my system has rebooted. He first had a screen blue error, rebooted, reported a disk error and automatically run CHKDSK. Since then, the system has started a black with white slider screen and nothing else. This happens at startup options (Normal, safe, safe with the last command good known configuration). Not even sticky keys would come to the top. CTRL-Alt-Delete, Ctrl-Alt-Esc and all other keys has nothing did. Even with a right click.

I searched all over the web for solutions. I found (and tried) several over the past week, but nothing has worked.

    Here's what I tried...

F8 held key on boot to the top and entered the startup recovery. Ran of recovery. Initially so found of disk errors. Those fixed. Then he said he could not repair the system and reported two pilot errors.

Tried system restore. He said that I had no restore points (even if I know that I had before).

With the help of recovery options, I went to the command prompt. Asked to RegEdit and load the Software hive. Checked the connection entry Windows NT; made sure, it has been set to explorer.exe

The system, checked RpcSs Key hive. Already the NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService value

Renamed event connects winevt and not create the Logs folder

Removed the hard drive. Attached to another system (as slaves), and the registered file permissions. They have screwed everything up. The fixed file permissions and drive put back in original system.

Œuvres self-retaining keys now. Do not, however, as my sticky keys doesn't have a link to configuration.

Went back into recovery startup via the F8 key at startup. Now, when I run start recovery, it says that everything is going well and there is no problem.

I have download the hotfix from article 977675 Microsoft, but I don't know how I can apply it without being able to get into windows. I would like to contact MS e-mail or chat support, but I can't get the product ID without being able to connect (frustrating talk).

I would like to reinstall OS, but HP does not provide an installation disc with their systems (only a full restore partition). My system is backed up (with the exception of the Windows folder), but I really don't want to have to make a full recovery, as I have a lot of specialized programs and settings that would probably take me a week to re - install and re - set.

    Anyone have any new ideas?

    Hello

Here's my usual BlackScreen convenience store, because it may be that you haven't tried
or if you have access you might be able to come back and start some of them.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If yes you can try Control Panel - device
Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click on UPDATE driver - then right click
on devices and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure)
CTRL + ALT + DELETE and on the tab process EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

First check this thread in case it is simple and if not to come back to this thread.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.
That there is no information on a black screen as it is on a blue screen just adds to the

  • BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphones stuck on a 'white screen of death '.

    Hello world

I have a Blackberry Curve 8520. Yesterday, he got stuck on a white screen, with a little black clock in the middle (the kind you see when you're waiting for a page to load in the browser).

Even if I turn off my phone, take the battery or put it on charge, this "white screen of death" I read he is described by other people online, won't go away!

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

    Ok.

If your BlackBerry is turned off the power with a black or white screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life may be the flashing red indicator light in the upper corner. Nothing seems to wake and Desktop Manager does not recognize that a device is connected.

    (1) make sure that you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://NA.BlackBerry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    (2) on your PC, go to start > run and copy and paste the following line exactly (i.e. with quotation marks):

    'c:\program files\common research in motion\apploader\loader.exe' /nojvm

    (3) the Application Loader Wizard will appear - click on "next".
    (4) in the ' connection: ' drop-down menu, you should see "USB - PIN: UNKNOWN". Click on the button "next".
    (5) you should see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Press Next and finish, and that you are well on your way to get your Blackberry to life. Congratulations! Just unplug and let the process finish completely.

NOTE: If you do not display the list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead to see the message "the Blackberry Desktop Software has no Blackberry Device Software for the device you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator', then you must download the Blackberry operating system for your support and your device.
    http://www.BlackBerryFAQ.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate type of carrier and network, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the steps above again and you should be on the right track.

My Blackberry Bold 9700 had the white screen of death and will seek to revive, but while loading could fail and then repeat it, I then he backed up using the Blackberry Desktop Software and tried to do the reset of the system using this...

    1. Above all, back up your BlackBerry device.  Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager and select backup and restore.  In the next screen, select backup and perform a full backup of your data on the device.  Note the location of the backup file (usually in the Documents folder).  Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and let your connected device.
    2. 3. After the configuration of the aircraft has been recovered, you will be on the device Application selection page.  You can scroll through the list for all desired applications are selected.  You can also deselect all applications that you do not use to save space.  Click Next.
    4. On the next page, click on the Advanced button.  Check the two checkboxes (delete all application data and delete all currently installed applications) are checked.  Click Next.
    5. To proceed with the OS reinstall.  Note that this process can take 10 to 30 minutes (usually about 10 minutes).  Do not unplug the device.
    6. Once the process is complete, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.  Select backup and restore and open the restore application.  Select the file to restore (Backup-(Year-Month-Day) .ipd) and click Open.  Follow the steps to restore your device.
    7. Re-activate your connection to device by clicking on manage connections and turn on your Mobile network.  Download all the missing applications and re - connect to any device BlueTooth and you have completed.

However, reset doesn't have to step 4 and I've been unable to re - connect phone to Blackberry Desktop and now, the phone tries to start but crashes when she shows the first blackberry ever start.

    Help, please

It could be at this stage.  I'm leaning more towards the software side.  Can you take the device to the store and reload the software?  If we give them problems, then the material may be failing.

  • Mac Pro 2008 No. Startup Manager Access/Gray screen on startup

I'm in a difficult situation and hoping a Ninja Mac can give a helping hand.

Had a RAM issue (is no longer recognized a pair of memory modules in a 2008 Mac Pro, El Capitan), and among the troubleshooting steps, I did a PRAM reset (press / hold down ALT + CMD + P + R during startup) just to see if it could resolve. Unfortunately, the Mac would not start in front of a gray-white screen with a flashing icon of folder/question mark. Returned never me to get there.

I had read that resetting the PRAM the disc start, among other things, may need to be reset afterwards, and this seems to be the case. Looked this solution and kept diligently press Option key during startup. This time, no folder icon, instead a sensitive cursor, but nothing else. Gray-white screen only, no boot manager to select the startup disk is suitable.

    I also tried the following...

    1. Starting in the Diagnostic Mode... Gray screen.
    2. Restore/recovery... Gray screen.
    3. Reset the SMC... Gray screen.
    4. Enter Safe Mode... Gray screen.

OS (and apps) on flash PCI cards. All files are on hard disks in the 4-Bay, as well as a player flash remains connected to a (used as a scratch of PS) free SATA port. So I can't really share, but I wonder if I shoot all readers it would require a search for another source?

I create an El Capitan USB boot (currently copy with createinstallmedia), but don't expect that it will offer what anyone else that its use is based on access to the Startup Manager at startup..., that I can't do. There are the graphics on the screen (missing folder icon, mobile mouse cursor) so can not imagine a video problem.

    Looking forward to enter here.

    Success!

I created a USB bootable OS X installer using these instructionsand createinstallmedia. After some messing around with the Terminal syntax USB was ready to go. My concern, however, was that the operating instructions required by selecting the drive of the Startup Manager... which I could not access.

With the USB stick plugged in I started to turned on the Mac while pressing the key OCCUPIED Palestinian territory and this time, the selection screen pops up showing just the USB key for installation of El Capitan. Got that we open and instead of installing I chose Startup Manager in the installation menu bar, took my normal OS drive and rebooted. Back in business, no problems.

This put aside, although I understood that reset PRAM would also require reselect startup disk, I don't have a hot clue why did not appear the Boot Manager - or any other useful diagnostic. If someone could throw some light here would be appreciated.
