  In fact, I had already read the news you mentioned me and it did not apply to my situation of paper.  I was using standard letter size paper and had not changed type and size.  What I found useful is a blog that mentioned by changing the properties of the printer; printing preferences; type.  I got the paper type "automatic" and I changed to "plain paper" as the recommended blog.  After that, I was able to align the ink cartridges and print as usual.  I still have no idea what caused the problem in the first place since the previous setting was what I always used.  Thanks for your interest.

  Your Windows 7 machine can have PDF writer on it so you can print to PDF. You need to install PDF writer on your machine Windows 8. There are many of them, including little free such as the following software:

  After installing it, you can see options most notably print to pdf or files. You can also use it to scan to pdf file too.
