Why XP won't come back successfully saved restore point or checkpoint?

Whenever I try to go back to a restore either point, I created (before making a change or install something again) or a checkpoint restore point, restoring always fails.  I receive no information on the reason, it just says: it has failed and that "no files have been changed.  I think this situation has prevailed on this machine because I got it.  Any suggestions why this is happening and what to do about it?

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

What is the issue that you are experiencing that you think that the system restore will be remedied (or you are just convenient)?  Remember that the system restore is not a time machine.

Have you ever used the system restore to restore your system in the past?

Describe exactly what happens when you try to perform a system restore and the error messages you see which indicates that it does not work.

Some tools Anti Virus 'protect' your system so that they will not allow a restore of the system work properly.

For example, if you use Norton/Symantec products, you will see a message like this:

Restoration incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored...

It is also a popular Symantec problem (well, I'll be polite and call an "undocumented feature"...), they wrote an article about it:

http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/sharedtech.nsf/pfdocs/2005113009323013

According to what you use for malware protection, you may need to disable the product temporarily, do the system restore and then turn the products light up again when the system restore is complete.

Sometimes you need start your system in Mode safe and so that your protection programs are not running, and then do the system restore.  Tips from Microsoft in some of their articles that if the system restore does not restore your computer, start in Safe Mode, and then run the system restore.  It works for some configurations.

System Restore is sometimes so afflicted or Restore Points are suspicious, the best solution is to reinstall your system restore.  This will remove the old Restore Points, but sometimes it's the only way to fix a broken system restore.  You don't have to reinstall XP, only the part of system restore.

That can leave you with your problem of unspecified origin that you hope the system restore will fix (using a system restore is usually not equivalent to fixing the problem though).

Give these ideas some consideration if they apply to you.

Sometimes malicious will afflict your system restore to prevent you to find and remove malware.  It would much rather you trick into thinking that you need to repair or reinstall your XP when it is not necessary.

No matter what you use for protection against malware, I do so and then only begin to solve any problems:

Download, install, update, and make at least a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems:

Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

It can be uninstalled later if you wish.

The scans by operating clean, reboot, test and we can fix any other issues.

    Hello and welcome to the community!

    Please try this sequence... Note that, throughout the whole 4h15m process, your BB should stay connected to a good charger (not the USB PC):

    1. With battery, connect your BB to the wall charger
    2. Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the screen not
    3. Remove the battery
    4. Wait 15 minutes
    5. Insert the battery
    6. Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the screen not

    This has been known to "revive" some BBs.

    It is also possible that your battery or BB has encountered a problem... to test, this sequence is necessary:

    1. Get a known good and already fully charge battery... use it in your BB and see what happens
    2. Get access to a BB good and the same known... use your battery in there and see what happens

    The results of this will show if your BB or your battery that has the problem.

    Good luck and let us know!

  • go back to a restore point before I have to reinstall service pack 2?

    I need to go back to a restore point in the month of April, which is before I installed the service pack 2 (as well as other microsoft updates and ITMU), do I need to reinstall service pack 2 after I return to this restore point? Automatic update Microsoft will recognize that I went back to a restore point before and if necessary reinstall updates?
    Thanks for your reply,
    Bob

    If you use the system restore, Yes, he'll be back to your computer to a time before have downloaded you updates.

    You need to reinstall SP2

    Your should be notified that SP2 is available for download.

    Normally, we only use the system restore to go back a week or two for the immediate problems.

    All 3rd-party programs that you have installed since the restore date will also be wiped, as they did not exist on your computer at this time.

    It is not recommended to go so far back in time.

    You will also probably have to uninstall/reinstall your anti-virus.

    Are you able to create a manual restore point? Report any error message received.  Try to create two or three points of restoration by restarting your computer after each creation. Are only being saved restore points?  I understand that you have increased the size of your C: drive. Could you post the ability and the amount of space used and free of your C: drive? Can you also give us the steps you took to increase memory ghost?

  • Why my videos not come back after a system restore?

    I accidentally deleted some videos and they were too big, then they are automatically deleted instead of going in my trash on the 14th Sunday.  I did a restore of the system back to Friday the 12 but my videos are not returned.  Why is this?  How can I get back them?

    System Restore is a feature that restores the State of the system files and programs.

    It is not designed to restore personal files, by doc, photos, video, music, etc...

    However the back ups methodologies, system restores and file copying is a separate discussion.

    in all cases, in order to recover deleted files that are no longer in the Recycle Bin, but "can" be always on the hard disk, you can use a program called recuva to restore.

    However, the disk space that is in the deleted data was marked for re-use by the system when empty space is no longer available to her.

    so, if the system has not and writtened on old data deleted on the disk, then you will have a chance to restore it.

  • Satellite Pro A60 has just turned off and won't come back

    My Satellite A60 laptop just turned off and will not go there is nothing no sound no lights nothing.it ran on sector when it happened.

    any help apreciated

    Hello, Heidi

    Remove the battery, connect your laptop adapter only and try starting your laptop running. When the laptop boot and OS is fully loaded, wait a few minutes and reinsert the battery.

    If everything is OK look carefully if the battery will be charged correctly and when battery LED is green (fully charged battery) try to turn off your laptop as usual. Turn it back on and carefully monitor what is happening exactly.

  • Shuts off and won't come back on iPad. Just shows the Apple logo. Does that mean and what should I do now?

    When I woke up yesterday morning after charging my ipad I just couldn't turn my ipad until I plugged in the laptop... worked well

    Yet once, I woke up this morning it's the same thing, but now all I see is a dim apple logo and it will turn back not... do not update AFAIK.

    Does that mean and what should I do?

    Try a forced reboot and see if that fixes it. Hold on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

  • We had a nice opening, page largely white who had little Fox logo and above, a search block, I won't come back.

    I called our ISP (exceeds/WildBlue) on connections and speed problems. My wife tells me that I would have expected, but their 'help' - a woman with an accent that was decidedly Indian - was told it was because of Firefox. I followed his instructions and now I have the same problems with connections and speed, but my start page has disappeared. It was largely a blank page, with a search block in the Center and the little fox/world below logo. There is a bar at the top which had a pull down to access some (I guess frequently used) sites. It's still there, but the search block offers more what I had typed in previously.

    I'm hating this person 'help '. I am pining away from my old start page. What should I do?

    Thank you

    Dave Walker

    Hello dave, please try install the reset search addon - he will return to the home page in default firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

  • List always comes back to the high point of the page

    I use a component of QNX list with a CellRenderer class and when I have more items that can fit on the list box, I have scroll down, but the list bounces to the top element. Here is the code I use to create a list:

    MYLIST = new List();

    myList.y = 30;
    myList.rowHeight = 88;
    myList.size = 90;
    myList.sizeUnit = SizeUnit.PERCENT;
    myList.scrollable = true;
    myList.opaqueBackground = 0 x 333333;
    myList.scrollBarColor = 0xCCCCCC;

    myCellRenderer = new MyCellRenderer();
    myList.setSkin (MyCellRenderer);
    myList.dataProvider = new DataProvider (routine.getArray ());

    myList.selectionMode = ListSelectionMode.SINGLE;
    myList.allowDeselect = false;
    myList.selectedIndex = 0;

    listContainer.addChild (myList);

    Hey chillybin,

    IM glad that you have validated your complete code, see him finally. you add to the list incorrectly. the list class has a method called addItem() you use. so, even if currently you add to the list, the list does not know that and cannot update its scrolling. then do the following:

    change this:

           private function onClick(e:MouseEvent):void
            {
                anArr.push({ label: anArr.length.toString() });

            }

    to do this:

           private function onClick(e:MouseEvent):void       {         taskTimerList.addItem({label: "New Item"});      }

    that should clear up things. Good luck!

  • Satellite M300 - cannot roll back WXP selected restore point

    I use a Satellite M300 with XP
    for no reason, I lost my printer (USB) connection and decided to do a restore to solve
    I tried to restore in 4 different points in January, but each time, he said, that he cannot do?

    have not hit this one before
    any suggestions welcome

    Thank you
    Keith

    In my opinion you have no other options.
    Something seems to be wrong with the restore points created in the past
    Looks like you'll need solve the problem of USB printer in the other direction.

    First of all, I recommend you to clean the system using CCLeaner or other freeware software but CCleaner is one of the best and free.
    Then I recommend you to uninstall the installed printer software.
    You can repeat the cleanup using CCleaner to remove all traces of the software of the printer.
    Reboot several times.
    Then, you could install more printing software you can also consult different USB ports if it should not work

  • in the system restore, why the previous months are cleared from the restore points? It shows only the current month.

    Windows XP operating system

    System Restore can record only as much as is will insert in the allocated space restore points.  Once the space is filled, older restore points are purged as new ones are created.

    By default, the system restore allocates 12% of the score, he's being followed.  On today's big hard disks, which can cause a huge allowance for the restoration of the system, which in turn can cause problems.  For best results, set about 1 GB space.  See http://bertk.mvps.org/html/diskspace.html

    In any case, try to restore to a point more than a week or so old just asked in trouble.  See the FAQ here, particularly #10 and #16--> http://bertk.mvps.org/html/tips.html
