NEED WINDOWS 2000 PRO RECOVERY DISK. SE MESSAGE SAYING (BOOT FROM ATAPI CD-ROM: FAILURE...)   DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK PRESS ENTER.

Hello

Thank you for visiting the website of Microsoft Windows Vista Community. The question you have posted is related to Windows 2000 and would be better suited to the TechNet community. Please visit the link below to find a community that will provide the support you want.

That being said, it seems that there is a problem with the machines boot devices.  My best advice would be to get into the BIOS and make sure that your boot drive is first in line for the startup process.

PLEASE NOTE:

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can resolved e. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Best regards

I have a computer that has Windows 2000 Pro, I can use the disk to upgrade to Windows XP with this OS? It's

an old computer, but it works very well.  I want to switch to XP using the Windows upgrade disc. But

in the specifications it lists only 98, 98 Second and ME as an operating system you can upgrade.  Thanks John

Provided the specifications of the computer meets Windows XP you can switch from 2000 to XP. If it does not meet the specifications, you may upgrade the computer first or get a new one which is more cheaper today.

In addition, please note that you can only switch to Windows XP Professional. If it is a home edition you have then it will not work. You can refer to the link below on how to update your copy of Windows 2000 to Windows XP Pro.

  • Windows 2000 Pro system/disk physical conversion into virtual machine

Fairly new to the world of the VM and was directed to VMWare for possibly a problem for us.

We have a gentleman with an older system running Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) with a ton of software installed.  We put in place a new Win7 Pro system for him, but he won't Cross and reinstall everything (in addition to the time involved, some of the software is older and Win7 compatibility is probably a problem).

We were originally at a switch KVM allows you to switch between systems, but then I found in the converter and thought this would be a great solution for him.  My thoughts are to use the converter to create a virtual machine from its old system/hard drive and install Player on its new Win7 system, it can fire up to his old Win2000 environment when he needs to work - and we can empty the old physical system.

I have scanned through the documentation for converter and understood that I would need a version of Converter before 4.3 (like, 4.01 or earlier?).  Now, what should I install on it have to happen?

Do I need to set permissions on its legacy system to expose the discs on the network?

Can I get the old HD and connect it to the new system and convert this way?

Do I need to install something on the source and the host system to do this?

Once I can understand this point, we may need to conduct a number of other older systems, it keeps alive for the same reasons.

I guess I should ask first - is that what this application is designed to do?  Or it fits into another software solution?

Thank you very much for any information/guidance someone can provide - greatly appreciated.

(PS.  Please don't just live/link me to the documentation.  As mentioned, I went through that, and I'm not real familiar with the setting/process, so that really helped a lot.  Thank you once again.)

VHDs are used by VirtualBox and VirtualPC
    VMware uses the vmdk files

You start converter on the Win2000 and tell him to "convert THIS machine.
It then creates a vmx file plus a vmdk file.

On the Win7 host you install VMplayer or workstation, and then simply double-click the vmx file... If everything works as expected

I'm sorry, but as far as I know, it is not possible to download an operating system. If you have lost your recovery CD with the image of the whole plant, you will need to buy a new Toshiba or only an operating system and install the system by your own.

  • Windows XP Pro Installation Disc

I know that you do not supported Windows XP more, but... I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop. Now, I need to reinstall the OS, but of course, have no installation CD. It's Windows XP Pro and the product key is on the label. I want to stay with XP for now. Is there anywhere I can download the installation on a CD disc?

Unfortunately not.  But is you know someone who has a Windows XP computer with the XP CD "commercial" version see if they'll let you borrow it so you can re - install XP.

Once installation is complete you check the manufacture of mobile support site to see if they still list the drivers XP, you will need to download and install.

Also consider making a backup of the Image on an external USB drive as a means of protection if you need to re - install XP, simply use the most recent backup) of the drive if you ae able to install and activate XP using your key successfully.

  • Creating Windows 2000 Pro VM Media update?

    Greetings,

I have Windows 2000 Professional upgrade installation disc, the drive SP4. I tried to install from the disc of Windows 2000, which is an upgrade, but cannot get the program to recognize a number of previous versions. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, even a start HP Vectra 500 product recovery CD which was the initial purchase. All legal upgrades. I tried all the previous albums in both the CD where I installed W2k and from another CD on the same machine, all got the same answer, which was that the disc cannot be read.

It's a question that I have found no information on the abandonment of a new configuration of the machine. No option in the program to delete a virtual machine. Nothing that I could find in the manual on the failure index settles; or remove VMs. in addition the virtual screen would not hear my F3 or ESC. Finally, I deleted the list of "Favorets" closed the program and delete the VM installation folder. " I hope that I have not tested things upwards, and I would be happy to know what I should have done.

I had no problem installing Windows 2000 on a real computer. And executed him on another computer right now several generations of the original HP Vectra 500.

Next attempt was to try to install the beginning with the SP4 disk to see if it will be happy with the upgrade disk to check. Of course, it did not work.

I then tried to install update for Win 98 and Win 95 thinking about upgrading, but the screen did not recognize any OS on the disks while the workstation saw them in both cases.

I remember I have a fresh install of W2k on a scsi disk and I could do a new installation on the other machine as a BONE double fake. So I guess the question is: is it possible to use this version to install the virtual machine? Copy the installation so that iso? Import in some way?

It is important that I get a w2k system that works on my system see: W7 64-bit with hardware that won't allow installation of w2k.

To answer the easy question first. To remove a virtual computer, simply to click with the right button on the VM in the Favorites and select "remove disc.

Now to your question with the installation. Try to follow these steps:

create a new virtual machine and make sure that you specify "I will install the operating system later.

    • power on the virtual machine (it should boot to the PXE boot screen) and let it powerd on
    • connect the CD or an ISO on the virtual CD-ROM drive
    • Click the virtual machine screen and warm starting the virtual machine (CTRL-ALT-INS)

If you're fast enough you can also press 'ESC' once, while you see the white progress at the bottom of the screen, bar to access the start menu.

  • Replace windows 2000 Pro with Win XP Pro SP2

What could be the best way to go about changing of OS witout losing Dat and the files on the PC. Would appreciate all comments and helwith the new facility.

    Thanks adavance

Start the computer to the Windows 2000 Professional operating system. Insert the CD in the DVD in the usual way. Run the Setup program. Select the upgrade installation. Follow the prompts. Everything should be OK with your user files and applications still in place.

    Should be. No guarantee.

Best to make sure you have backups of all your files of the user, including electronic stores you want. Also. Make sure that you have a way to reinstall your programs. If you need print creitical. Make sure you check the availability of the XP drivers for your printers. Remove the Windows 2000 drivers before the update and install XP drivers after. Even if the printer uses the same driver for 2000 and XP, I would like to remove it before upgrading. Less liklihood of problems.

  • I need SVGA on my Windows 2000 Pro guest

I need a higher resolution for my Widnows 2000 guest.  The graphics card has not been loaded and a monitor vga (16 colors), it's what came.  I need min 256.  Do not know how to proceed.  The graphics card, I have probably does not work, so I don't know how this translates to the guest from the host.

    Help is very appreciated.

Are you logged in as admin user when you try this?

If so, it is very likely going to be a Windows error - probably not related to VMware.

You must manually update the MSI installer in Win2K.

Do a search for "Impossible to install or upgrade Windows Installer Service" - you'll find plenty of good links that sort.

    See you soon,.
