Windows 7 and HP LaserJet 4 Plus

I have a new laptop with windows 7 and a printer LaserJet 4 Plus old (but very reliable).  I managed to download drivers from the HP site, but it still won't print.  I get no error messages, just nothing happens when I try to print a document or test page.  I have to change something in my settings?

There are three areas major problems installing a Laserjet 4 in Windows 7:

  • Ports.  The Laserjet 4 and its derivatives have a standard parallel port, but most of the Windows 7 machines no longer have a parallel port.  The most common solution is a USB-parallel conversion cable.  This can be problematic, because many of the converter cables do not support Windows 7.  [Edit - here marked positions have the models of cable converter in the forum users has reported as working in Windows 7]. In addition, most cables have no documentation (or even a brand name) makes it difficult to solve problems.  The converter can provide a parallel port simulated as LPT3: or it may be a port USB001.:  Another option with the Laserjet 4 would be adding a JetDirect card that would provide a network for the Laserjet 4 port.  This will require the Laserjet connected to a router and would provide access network on multiple computers if you wish.  A typical JetDirect card for the Laserjet 4 is shown here.
  • Drivers.  The Laserjet 4 drivers (and 4 M and other derivatives) are sent through Windows Update.  If Windows Update is enabled (as described in the method of step 2 here in the section "configure Windows Update for"...) you may be able to simply plug in the USB cable and install the driver correctly.  If not do the following: click on start Orb, devices and printers, add printer, and then select the appropriate port.  When the list of printers, click Windows Update.  It will take several minutes for the list to repopulate, when it is finished the Laserjet 4 series printer won't be available under HP (Hewlett-Packard).

Hi SydsMom, welcome to the Forums of HP. If a product contains the necessary built in the RT drivers, he just needs to be plugged and RT Windows should recognize and install it.

I did a search for "HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dw Laser printer" with the: Windows Compatibility Centerand it's Windows RT 8.1 compatible.

Microsoft provides these simple instructions: install a printer in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1

  • Windows 7 and HP LaserJet 5 p - old printer printer does not work with this new computer

Just bought new PC and it has Windows 7.  Old HP LaserJet 5 p printer has always worked with last PC (XP).  This printer uses the parallel so purchased and plugged port with a parallel to USB printer cable.  Thought everything was cool when it seemed that the printer was recognized as "new device" but would not print my Word document.  Review of the Panel's PC recognized some other strange printer, so it has been deleted and I used the troubleshooter to find and download the old printer driver.  PC now shows the correct printer but my documents still won't print.  What can / should I do for these 2 working together?  Don't want to have to buy a new printer just to get something that works with 7.

I was too frustrated. Finally, I solved the problem. I bought a parallel to USB cable head Gear. First attempts do not work. Unplug the printer from the computer. That removing all printers (some I just created trying). Make sure that you do not have the test pages in the queue (cancel all), otherwise impossible to remove printer. Also update windows drivers (to add the printer section). Turn off the computer. Connect printer USB available on the computer again. Turn on computer. And. You DID!

  • Windows 7 and HP Laserjet 2500 L won't print in color

I can't get Windows 7 to print in color on a HP Laserjet 2500 L.  I tried to download the driver again and re - install the printer and no luck.  I can get color printing using other printers (Canon and HP Deskjet).  Any ideas?

It's the work around installing Windows 7 for the HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer driver (I don't know if it will work for the 2500, but maybe worth a try)

    Follow these steps.

Download driver 64 bit vista for the 2600n. On your desktop, it should say 'clj2600n-HB-pd-win64-fr', do not download the plug-and-play installation, which she usually the first option on the download page.

Right-click on it and select "Properties". Select the tab at the top that says 'compatibility', then check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for: windows xp sp3 (this does not install but to).
Download the files extracted, granting of a permit).

Also, I checked the box "Run this program as Administrator". Click OK to close the dialog box.

Double-click the Zip file that you just modified. (clj2600n-HB-pd-win64-en)

You will get a security warning, choose run then you will get the WinZip Self-Extractor. Now be careful, don't forget the location (see below).

Default location would be in temporary files. I recommend that you type "C:\HP" and then unzip. It should tell you that two files have been unzipped successfully.

Then you should see the "hp color LaserJet 2600n HB - InstallShield Wizard" (be patient more slow computers may take a few seconds)... It will be by default save files in 'C:\Program Files (x 86) \Hewlett-Packard\color LaserJet 2600n drivers' when it's done, click Next.

Now, you go through the normal steps to add a local printer (note No LOCAL network) via the Control Panel , then select "existing use and port: LPT1:", and then click Next.

You should be installing the printer driver box, select have disk at the bottom on the right and go to "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Hewlett-Packard\color LaserJet 2600n drivers" that you have just installed the files. You should see a "CLJ2600" file, select it and finish.

The HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer should now be in your printers folder.

Right-click on it and select properties from the printer,

Click on the tab at the top of the printer for the 2600 properties page that says 'Port', add a Port and add "Standard TCP/IP Port", click New Port. A wizard to add a TCP/IP port is displayed, click Next at the bottom.

Now, type the IP address of your HP 2600 in the top box and click Next. It should detect your printer and then create a port on the ports of the printer properties box tab. Your new port must be verified, otherwise check it and click on the general tab, select print a test page, it should now display.

Please note there are minor variations, you can do that always gets the same results, this was as close as I could remember having spent an hour and a half on the online chat with a great technician of HP.

    Good luck.

  • Windows 7 and HP Laserjet 4 L will not print parallel to USB cable

I recently updated my home computer for a laptop Acer Aspire with windows7, bought a parallel to USB cable for my HP laserjet 4L printer, downloaded the suggested for the 4L of HP printer driver but I am unable to get to the printer, the documents are stopped printing with a print error message.  I can erase Quebec, but every time I send a document, I get the same problem. When I run the diagnostic troubleshooting Microsoft online he recognizes the HP4L, shows my problem is just a document qued up in spool it printing, solves the problem, but not so much.

I saw other post of problems with windows7, print USB and the HP4L connection - if anyone can help me with this frustrating problem, I would be very grateful.

stop the print spooler service restart the computer and start the Printer Spooler service. This is to fix it.

  • LaserJet 4 Plus: installation of LJ 4 + printer in Windows 10

I have a PC with Windows 10.  It was working fine with my LJ 4 + printer using a TCP/IP connection. I had problems with the PC, so back up my files and reinstalled a fresh copy of win 10.  Now I can not find a driver for the LJ 4 + on the web that works with Win 10.

There is a thread that deals with this problem but using a parallel port connection, and I want to use the TCP/IP route.  I know that the number of TCP/IP.

My question is in two parts:

    (1) does anyone know where I can get a driver HP LJ 4 + without having to download crappy software to sites that try to rope me?  This driver - if available - work probably even if originally designed for Win 7 or an earlier version, because it worked after that I initially put updated my PC to win 10.

    (2) If this is not feasible, then are there any HP LJ printers available on the HP list on 10 win that work with the same codes as the LJ 4 +?  for example: HP LaserJet 4350 or 6 L or something like that?

This LJ 4 + maybe 20 or 25 years, but it is a beautiful beast of burden and should not replace.

My Professional 10 64-bit Windows system has a driver for printers LaserJet 4 and LaserJet 4 Plus :

You may need to click the Windows Update button in the Add Printer dialog, then wait (possibly several minutes) while additional drivers are downloaded, until the list is filled again.

Of course, I have no idea if this driver is not working properly, or if it will offer all the features that you can.

  • HP laserjet 4100n - printing garbage after upgrade to Windows 8 and can not network

Hi everyone - I've recently upgraded to a new PC in Windows 8 and I have terrible problems with my printer HP Laserjet 4100, which worked perfectly before XP.

    Question n ° 1

I had to get a parallel/USB cable to connect the printer and you can see after downloading some drivers of my PC and I can print - but every now and then it prints garbage to half way through a document/print run.  Someone has experienced this problem and if so how to solve?

    2nd edition

At the time where the printer is a stand-alone but I want this printer to network, but no matter what I try I can't be seen.  I printed the configuration information and it shows me what I need, but I when I try to add it it just can not be detected.  What I am doing wrong?

I was able to add a Lexmark laser printer at the independent address and I've also linked it with no problems at all.

Any advice (as simple and in English) would be greatly appreciated.

Reset the cold of the printer. Turn the power off. Hold down the green button while turning on the printer up to cold appears in the window of the menu. Liberation and the printer will come on loan. Wait about 1 minute after a ready appears, and then print the config page again and see if the address has changed. Even if this is not the case, go to a prompt on the computer and see if you can ping the address.

  • LaserJet 4 Plus: can I use my DSL modem/router for my LaserJet 4 Plus a network printer home?

My LaserJet 4 Plus was connected to my old XP computer with a parallel port cable (?).  Can I make this printer to my Windows 7 and Windows 10 computers using ethernet cable port to connect it to my ADSL modem/router?  I tried to make the connection, but other computers can't 'see '.  This printer has been used as a network printer in an office environment.  I see an IP address when I print a test page, but I am unable to ping this address of my Windows 10 computer when I have the printer connected to my modem/router.  What should I do to make this visible printer?  Is there a way to check the IP address on the test page is still topical to the printer?  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thank you very much to clear up the mystery as to why the reset cold was not change the IP address and why I was not able to see the MIO menu!  Thank you for the suggestion to replace the card with a card HP from ebay.

  • HP LaserJet 4 Plus with PostScrip SIMM = LaserJet 4 M Plus?

I have a printer HP LaserJet 4 Plus old wonderfully connected to a home network Windows XP via a JetDirect card and a Linksys router.  I'm now hoping to enter the 21st century with the purchase of an iMac.  Not wanting to leave a friend behind (the printer, not the router), I installed additional memory and a map SIMM PostScript printer.  So now, have I not a HP LaserJet 4M more and I will have any problems of connection/print worldwide Apple iMac Mountain Lion, using an AirPort base station?

    Thank you

    Old guy from Windows

No, I won't leave my LaserJet 4 Plus.  OS X Mountain Lion to install the printer as a "Generic PostScript Printer" allowed the addition of a map SIMM PostScript (eBay, $10).  Additional memory was not necessary, but I did add 32 MB to the printer (eBay, $30).  And, after 30 + years (dark) in the BACK/Windows/PC world, I must say that my iMac is a joy to own and use.  I hope I never see another 'window '.

  • Problem with window painted and scrollbars when editing (LabVIEW 8.0.1)

I'm under LabVIEW 8.0.1 in Windows XP SP3.  For my main VI, I came across a strange problem about 5 months ago.  The front window - both in edit mode and run mode - arrested repaint itself on the right side which is no longer visible when you scroll from top to bottom, but also visible overlapping Windows.  Coinciding with the repaint problem, both bars scroll search disabled grey arrows and no boxes in the bars that you can click and drag to scroll the window.  The scroll bars work still partially if you pass the mouse over it and roll the mouse wheel but does not work by clicking and dragging.

The façade has a lot of controls and indicators, including containers of tab control and is greater in the horizontal directions and vertical so the two scroll bars must be active.  But I deleted everything in the Panel before and everything in the schema and the problem persists.  If the problem is not directly related to a control/led display.

I saved the simple VI to this problem (using a line of large text and a high box rounded to test), and then created a new VI and copied the two elements at the new VI.  This new VI didn't paint it and the problem of the scroll bar.  The two screws are slightly different in the memory usage and the revision number (bad is review 1785 and the good is revision 3), but otherwise the two screws are identical.  I have attached two screws at this announcement.  When you first open the bad VI, you will see the scroll bars disabled while the good VI has active scroll bars.  To replicate the repaint problem, scroll the window up and down with your mouse wheel.  If it's good when you first open the VI, click on another window, then click on the window of VI and try again the mouse wheel.  This by clicking sur-loin-and-return always causes the problem of repaint for me.  I tried the screw on two different computers, both running Windows XP SP3 and LabVIEW 8.0.1 with identical results.

Here's what I discovered simple troubleshooting with the screws:

    always off scroll bars

    * repaint the problem in the main window for larger then 680 pixels of window widths

    * repaint the problem in the menu bar of the main window for widths of more than 646 pixels

    * entire window becomes disabled than 1348 pixels window width

    * can paint window minimize and restore, but only repaints only once

    * scrollbar boxes sometimes flicker in the display, but then disappear

    * Scroll left and right hovering mouse over the bar and horizontal scroll by using the mouse wheel

I found something similar on this forum (thread: problem with refresh of façade)-it could be linked to the CAR on the Panel being offset internally.  I don't have access to LabVIEW 8.5 or later and do not plan to upgrade - I have not tried the trial version, as this user has done.  I could try to copy and paste my set of the block for a new VI diagram but the VI is so important I'm afraid something would break, plus I don't want to do it again in a few months.  The problem seemed to occur after a certain number of stops (or revision number).  I save copies of backup often and when the problem first happened, I was able to go to a previous version, make the missing changes and save it without any problem, but this only delayed the problem and he came later.  It is therefore perhaps the revision number.  It seems not related to a change or a particular addition in the front panel and the graph.

The attached picture shows the repaint problems and scroll bar in bad VI.

This raises a question I have - if this problem is a bug has been fixed in 8.5 and later, is it possible to apply bug fixes for older versions?  Or what I need to pay for an update fix these bugs?

Seems that something got corrupted with this VI. Things to copy on a cool VI and things should be OK.

See also this recent report of a similar problem.

Try the SFC scan on the computer.
SFC/scannow is a very useful command that you can use in any version of Windows. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the/scannow switch, the tool analyzes all the important files of Windows on your computer and replace if necessary.
Missing and the corruption of the operating system (like many DLLs) files are probably the main cause of the major problems of Windows. In view of this, plus the fact that the SFC/scannow is completely automatic and very easy to use, the tool should be usually one of your top not troubleshooting.
